The flashback scene was footage they cut from the infamous Adriana episode. They decided they wanted to be more suspenseful about her fate so they cut it, but they liked it so much they showed it in this episode.

The discussion about boredom is (ironically) interesting to me. Between videogames and second screens and doomscrolling on my phone, my attention span is in shambles and I've been trying to rebuild it by allowing myself to sit with boredom. I found some of my most creative ideas have come from just sitting down on the couch in "dead space" as you put it. But it makes sense these guys don't want to do that, since half of their life is being in denial, something else you clocked in the episode is how much they talk about their ideal lives while their actions completely contradict that ideal, sometimes even while they're talking about it. IF they allow themselves the space to think about these things, they'd realize how messed up it is, so they go chasing the next adrenaline high instead, like getting into a gunfight over some cases of wine.
