Hell yeah! You know we're here for this!

joseph clay

I'm caught up with you now, but I wanted to point out that there's a parallel I've noticed between this and BB. The. Farther you get into the shows, the worse you gradually feel about watching. I find myself disappointed with Jimmy just like Walt, it's just that Jimmy hasn't crossed the line where we can really hate him.

Shred Zevo

I've been waiting so long for your reaction to 6x7. Your insight on BCS and BB is extraordinary and you really have a gift for tv and filmmaking. I hope to see lots of original projects from you in the future. I have loved every second of watching these two shows with you, as well as many others you've gone through. Thank you James !

Brett Heller

Soon as in today? Or like in the next couple of days?

Kaitlin

The shot of Gus in darkness after the shooting (except for the rims of his glasses) and then stepping into that backlight right after? PERFECTION.

Tim Martin

Let’s gooooo….again!

Jakey James

I second this question I've been hyped for the edit of these episodes since they aired

Irrelevant

I would absolutely watch a 3–4-hour video essay on the craftsmanship of the Breaking Bad universe from you. There is so much you could breakdown: composition, storytelling, character building, tension, conflict and resolution, cinematography, color, subtlety, etc. You understand this show's workmanship better than any reactor I've gone on this journey with and that's saying something, truly. I think you would find such a challenge to be enjoyable and rewarding.

Tim Martin

Lalo hears the static on the phone line to Hector. He knows Hector’s phone is tapped. He has given himself away. So he calls back with the fake story of having no proof. What to do now? He sees the cockroach scurry across the sewer. It triggers a memory of talking to Kim while he was in jail. He tells her “ Your man…he’s like la cucaracha…a born survivor”. He had all but forgotten about Jimmy until then. RIP Howie.

Elle Durden

i never hated Jimmy and Kim as much as I did in this episode. There were so gross the entire time. I was freaking crawling out of my skin during the mediation scene. So freaking uncomfortable. Poor Howie. I was shook by his death. So pointless, unfair and brutal. That said, this episode is one of my favorites of the show, its such a game changer.

Jerry C

Kinda gives a new theory as to why there was a fly in the lab, eh? :)

Michael Proch

Been waiting for this since day 1

Mathieu Paquin

Oh shoot I never even thought about that

Tim Martin

Lalo never intended to kill Gus “at this time”. He pulled the ol’ double-cross to get all the men, save 1 or 2, out of the laundry. He would easily kill the few who stayed behind and then video the unfinished lab as proof for Eladio. “Then you decide”. But Gus shows up. “I was hoping we could take our time…strip this snake of his skin… but who am I to look a gift horse in the mouth”. Now Lalo and his video are forever buried with Howard. And episode 9 Is The Perfect Way To End The Perfect Day.

Tohasim

That candleflicker is the most genius que I've seen in a while, Howard shows up and we see the candle, and AS SOON as the candle flickers again, before Lalo is shown, before Kim and Jimmy reacts, you just know. It's so chilling

Deirdre K

When you’re done with the show, I highly recommend that you check out “mattrobot’s” page on Instagram. He created comic book covers for each episode of BCS and they are stunning!

James vs Cinema

I’ll make sure to let everyone know with an update. Don’t want to rush my editor while they are vacationing. :)

Tim Martin

I think you were more freaked out than Jimmy when Lalo walked thru the door. That was so great!!

MR

Note that's "mattrobot" on instagram, not "mattrobots". AFTER watching the entire show.

Kaitlin

I’m in the unpopular camp: I don’t feel that bad for Howard. He never had a single conversation with Kim where he wasn’t a patronizing bastard, always talking to her like she was a little girl who was ungrateful of his expertise instead of a grown colleague in the work place. If you’ve worked for this kind of personality, you know. Anyway, I had a good chuckle when he got clapped. Overkill? Sure, but so’s sticking your colleague in doc review because you have a hemmroid about her boyfriend.

James vs Cinema

You gotta put some more respect on my boy Howard. RIP. 😂

Brett Heller

Makes sense! Was just wondering, hope they enjoy their vacation

Irrelevant

"I won." - Walter White (to Skylar White) "You won." - Howard Hamlin (to Jimmy McGill)

sayhello2heaven

There were several conversations where he didn’t patronize her and even if he did that still doesn’t make it alright to ruin his entire life and career, let alone getting him indirectly murdered. Also I don’t know why you act as if someone being rude to Kim is a cardinal sin as she reveals herself to be a pretty shit person the last two seasons herself. Sorry but this has to be one of the worst takes I’ve ever seen on this show

Owen Young

I had never been so blown away as I was for the end of these two episodes. But the fact that Howard Hamlin is forever buried under a super meth lab beside his killer is very tragic. People will always remember him as an addict who killed himself, all because Saul Goodman and his wife wanted to have some fun. It’s a beautiful, heart wrenching story. I can’t wait for you to see the rest man! When you’re done, go watch some Saul scenes from BB, the new context of everything will get you in the heart seeing the man we once knew as Jimmy McGill. It reminds me of the Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader plot.

Chris York

Yaaa nooo. I don’t remember enough minute details, but toward the end of the series Howard seems remorseful. Either way STICKING someone IN DOC REVIEW. doesn’t justify destroying thier life through illegal means 😂😂😭 and then thier dirty work gets him killed. Sorry bad take I get it it’s a tv show but have some sympathy lol

Chris York

Thank god I thought I was crazy

Kara

James I need you to know, that after episode 7 there was a SEVEN WEEK BREAK! Peter Gould said there would be "no cliffhanger" and then this happened... lmfao. We were losing our minds. Great reactions!

redhawk

Howard is the most tragic character in the Breaking Bad universe. Both shows do a great job of turning the anti-heroes into villains. It’s hard to forgive Jimmy and Kim after this. There were a few callbacks in these two episodes. Another commenter mentioned the cockroach that Lalo sees. Lalo putting on the silencer is similar to when earlier in the episode Howard was turning the soda can to prevent the can from spraying. Kim pulling up and walking to Gus’s residence in order to kill Gus is similar to when Walt pulls up to his residence to do the same.

Kaitlin

Nah, fuck Jr. 😂 I don’t miss him.

Kaitlin

And Bob had that heart attack that almost killed him!

Brian Sittler

Yeah that break was brutal. One of the most shocking “not a cliffhanger” cliffhangers ever lol. Hopefully amc splitting up the season leads to Emmy wins soon like they should!

Brian Sittler

The sound of that flicker is so haunting. Really ups the intensity for me. Brilliantly done.

Brian Sittler

So now you know that it turns out that our man Jesse (in a puffed up lab suit) was unknowingly dancing on top Howard & Lalo’s grave in Breaking Bad. 😳😬

Rockstarrzz

One of my favourite shots in anything *ever*. On rewatch, the absolute chills that damn candle gives me is crazy

Andrew R

And people were begging him not to watch this series

Rockstarrzz

And the best part about episode 7, as shocking as the ending is... it tells you exactly what will happen in the title of the episode, and nobody saw it coming. Plan. and Execution.

Kara

Mike when Walt pulls up in front of gus' house with a revolver: "here we go again 🙄"

George Ray

So excited for this! I was a bit numb after first seeing this episode, not gonna lie lol.

KristyAMF

Yeah i think of the "are we the baddies?" sketch anytime I think about episode 7

Dawi

It was actually AMC that split the season into two well after the script was finished so Gould and company didn't plan for the cliffhanger.

Walt

Why would people do such a thing? Genuinely asking because that surprises me lol

Jonathan Exler

Only way the Chicken Man got away with it is plot armor lol Lalo is the GOATTTTT

J_Fley .

We're in the end game now!

K. Morton

As good as these two episodes were, especially 7…episode 9 is almost my favorite of the series.

Brian Sittler

When Kim goes to Gus’s house there’s a few shots that call back to Breaking Bad. The first is that overhead shot of Kim’s long shadow as she walks towards the house just like when Walter did it. The other is when she raises the gun to shoot. It’s very similar to the shot of Jesse when he shoots Gayle.

Keanu

Wow I did not expect to hear a Wawa reference 😄 I still go on Wawa runs like everyone else, but man I miss the small mid-2000s Wawa that I grew up with. The quality has sadly gone downhill over the years after all of the menu expansions and transitions to superstores. Anyways, as for the episode, its important to note that Episode 7 was not originally planned to be a mid season finale. Production was delayed due to COVID. Bob Odenkirk also suffered a heart attack on set while filming Episode 8. That delayed filming his scenes for an extra two months. The unplanned delays caused AMC to split the season in half with a 7 week break in between. Needless to say, those 7 weeks felt like an eternity. It all worked out well though. The cliffhanger was perfect and the release schedule allowed the series to be nominated in both the 74th and this year's 75th annual Emmys. It's been frustrating to see Bob, Rhea, Peter Gould, and the series as a whole getting snubbed year after year by other nominees. There have been 53 nominations throughout 7 years without a single award. Hopefully the academy will get it right this time around.

Keanu

I'm newer to this channel, so I can't speak specifically for this audience. That being said, I've noticed that there are a lot of people who struggled with this series because the earlier seasons are a lot slower paced than BrBa. I have several friends who would wait for each season to end just so they could binge watch it

Matt

Its mentioned in Breaking Bad after the lab gets destroyed when hank is down there that two bodies where found

Boomzone

fun anecdote but when walt and jesse bombed the lab he did kill 2 of the security guys in there so those were the ones hank mantioned

Keanu

It would be extremely unlikely for the DEA to have found Howard and Lalo's bodies. Instead, like Nik stated above, it was most likely the two henchmen that Walt killed before freeing Jesse and torching the lab.

Howard and Lalo were buried 6+ feet deep in compacted soil underneath the foundation. The lab was literally a giant hole in the ground underneath an industrial laundromat. Structural integrity is paramount for a load that large, and Gus spared no expense. It had a red metal floor which most likely sat atop gravel and a reinforced concrete slab. The investigators would have had to excavate through all of that just to recover Howard and Lalo’s bodies.

Keanu

Same! My jaw hit the floor and I stared at the screen for a solid 10 minutes straight. Then my brain broke again once I realized it would take 2 months before the second half of the season aired.

dana

Happy to have you back with BCS, James! I've been looking forward to you finally getting to experience these incredible episodes and your reactions were everything I'd been hoping for, as tragic of a turn the story took. Your surprise and shock and anticipation is contagious lol, it felt like I, too, was watching these for the first time. No idea if someone else brought it up already, but I've seen this little detail brought up online: there's a bit of a parallel between the can of Schweppes Howard turned around in a circular motion to prevent it from exploding, and Lalo twisting on the silencer onto his gun. Same motion, same goal - preventing a loud noise. I've always thought that was neat, intentional or not.

Carlos H

Team Sheetz ✊🏾

Violet

Are you trolling? Lol you really thought it was funny he was executed by a cartel member just because he was patronizing? Being murdered and being put in doc review are in no way comparable lol. If you think that, you must think Jimmy and Kim should have been killed by Lalo as well because they did so much worse to Howard than he ever did to either of them.

Violet

To be fair there wasn’t supposed to be a break originally. They had to delay due to Bob’s heart attack. So the cliffhanger was unintentional for once lol. Also nothing compared to waiting almost a whole year after Hank finds out on the toilet.

Violet

The lab scenes in BB truly hit so different after BCS…everything with Werner and now knowing Lalo and Howard are buried together under there the whole time. Plus the amount of pain and suffer ring involved in creating it only for Walt to blow it up after it’s used for maybe a few months…also legend has it the Fly in BB is actually Lalo lol

Kaitlin

Nah I think about other things because it’s just a TV show. 🤘

Violet

Yeah they really love using similar shots they did in BB. The scene of Gus taking pictures with the group of kids when Mike shows up to tell him about Lalo is very similar to Gomez showing up to tell Hank about the prison murders. Hank was doing a similar photo op group pic with kids for charity as well. Also the scene of Saul laying on the side of his head staring at Howard’s dead body just like Walt had to do to Hank in Ozymandias and also Gus to Max as well in the flashback when Hector killed him.

Thall

"It wasn't me, it was Ingazio!!" Basically the first words we remember from Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad.

Owen Young

I think of these shots as echos through space and time. Love them

Brian Sittler

Oh wow I hadn’t noticed the photo opp shot similarity, nice catch thanks!

Dajefe70

Also, why Gus looks so stone cold when he slit his associate throat in front of Walter and Jesse in the lab. He was definitely channeling killer energy of when Lalo almost took it all away from him.

pkleo73

also didnt Kim say it to Jimmy too in the one ep? Right before she says FU to him? With wtvr he did to mess with Kims shiz. Or made her do something she was uncomfortable with. Something like that.

pkleo73

i did this too. with BrBa, season 4 was almost over, I had just came out of the hospital and was asking friends what show to binge while I was layed up. And was unanimously told to watch it. I just caught up when Face Off happened. My world was forever changed. lol

pkleo73

Im in NW NJ and have 2 Wawas within 5 minutes each direction of me. lol

Jonathan Exler

Looking over at James when Lalo describes Gus to Saul😂😂😂💀

Jonathan Exler

What a perfect & permanent way to ‘cement’ Lalo & Howard into the BB universe. Outstanding characters

John

Since there's an uneven amount of episodes to finish with there be 3 episodes for 11 12 and 13 in 1 day??

Rockstarrzz

I'd honestly prefer 13 to be a seperate episode as it's longer (over 1hr 10 i think?) and would be good to have a longer discussion afterwards for the entire series.

Rockstarrzz

The soundtrack for when they're burying Lalo & Howard is absolutely chilling

John

I forgot that it's long tbh. Nvm

Rockstarrzz

Just a detail I never noticed before, when Mike & the gang are going to Jimmy's apartment the sniper says "looks like there's movement inside", what was the point in that? We, as the audience knows that Lalo isn't there anymore, and there's no logical reason for there to be movement inside that apartment because Jimmy was on the floor (and even if he was flailing about it was under the view from the window). Seems strange.

Rockstarrzz

It's funny how everyone always forgets that, I know they weren't named characters but it wasn't exactly a secret that they got killed an episode prior lol

Rockstarrzz

I know some people can't get into it because the early seasons are quite slow paced comparatively, but I've never seen anyone "beg" someone not to watch it, that's just ridiculous. I've also never seen anyone, who's actually finished the entire series not love it and then recommend it.

Rockstarrzz

The whole colour theory alone is fascinating

Matt

True, it also said the bodies were by the freight elevator

Kara

the sniper has a downward angle. he's seeing the soft shadow of Jimmy on the floor cast against the curtains (if you rewatch you can see this). it's just to establish the scene. Mike doesn't know it's just Jimmy in there, so it puts us in his headspace + the rest of the guys as they move in. Mike also asks all his guys to report in, like 3-4 people saying "North corner, clear" etc. there's no reason to do this for the audience either because we know Lalo isn't there, it's just to establish how methodical Mike is and how he handles this type of situation (sets up a sniper overlooking for cover, puts 1 guy on each corner, then quietly moves in with 4 armed guys).

Rockstarrzz

Ooh yeah you're right, thanks for the info

Simson Ward

Yes a fly born out of the carcass of Lalo. Or Howard. Lol. 🤯

Simson Ward

A metaphor could be drawn in that as Howard turned the can in a circular motion, he described that no one would know that he did that to prevent it from making a loud spill. And thus it wouldnt disturb anyone who tried to open it.. Towards the end of the following ep, Lalo spun his silencer. Shots then rang out underground. But no one ever knew (except gus), thus no one was ever disturbed. Crazy how James' patreon episode started and ended with similar tones and meanings.

Simson Ward

I thought about what Matt said and then I also thought there's no way they would have found Lalo and Howard's bodies that much deeper. Good info. Eerie parallel tho

Simson Ward

Omg yes! The universe runs parallel indeed. Such an eerie feeling.

Simson Ward

As we draw nearer and nearer to the events of BB, all I'm starting to hear are echoes of Walt just being like "fools. You're all going down." I like to think of Walt as the dark spooky music that's playing as they bury Lalo and Howard. Almost like he's some underlying spirit that looms overhead. Almost like he's the grim reaper. Oops, that's a call back to season 3 episode 4 of BB. Symbolisms!

Simson Ward

On another note. Johnathan Banks looked really great in these eps. Like Prime Breaking Bad Banks. Idk if he had been working out for this particular episode. But to me surprisingly, he looked like he de-aged these eps. It may be just me. Considering this seasons is over a decade older than his first appearence in BB and the timeline is obv set before BB.

Chelsea Warkentine

It's great finishing this journey up with you! You should definitely consider Bojack Horseman after you finish up BCS.

cindygrape

First time watching this I didn't remember Lalo called Jimmy a cockroach and him seeing one in the sewers made him think of him. I don't remember if I didn't notice that moment the first time (cuz it so obvious now) but it makes so much more sense to me now why Lalo decided drop by at that moment. RIP Howard

Linda

This was a cheap shot just for shock value. BCS officially jumps the shark. 😡

J_Fley .

Couldn't be anymore incorrect. It IS the entire reason Saul is so terrified of Lalo when we meet him in Breaking Bad. It had to be something major for him to be that fearful 4 years later or whatever. It was a backstory writing masterclass.

Linda

Speaking of backstory, funny how Howard was given a rushed, arbitrary, unimaginative little divorce backstory after all these seasons... 🙄

Ryan Shaw

This was one of the most shocking experiences I’ve ever had watching a show when it first aired. Like similar to Hank. I just had to pause and sit with it. Incredible.

Ludus Aurea

Oh dang you haven’t finished yet. I finally caught up.

Zach

Never have I read a worse take about this episode.

Samus Prime

I don't think you know what "jumped the shark" means.

Linda

Why, yes. Yes, I do. And that's exactly why I stopped watching The Handmaid's Tale after the season 2 finale. 😄

Chaos T

I get why this episode might come across as "shock for shock sake" but it's really not. There are numerous examples in recent tv where it's clear they're using shock for the sake of shock but the events shown were handled well in the episode. Everything was building to that point including Howard's confrontation. It's not a jump the shark moment because Howard's story continues to be an important part of the season even after his death and wasn't a throw away thing like in true "jump the shark" moments. The only time I really had to suspend disbelief this season is Lalo going to Germany and being a menace to society there with a gun. Hard disagree.

sablo

Ow shit you dint catch it! when Lalo puts a hood over Saul he says it wasnt me it was ignacio . In breaking bad when Jesse and Walter takes Saul out to the desert and takes off the hood he said the same thing thinking it was the cartel coming back for him again.
