IMPORTANT:
1) This video is an unicorn. It was demonetized AFTER a manual review. Quote from the mail:
"After manually reviewing your video, we’ve confirmed that it isn’t suitable for all advertisers. As a result, it will continue to run limited or no ads.
* "Why I DON'T watch (most) TV Documentaries"
"

BUT a few days later it was marked as monetized again, so I don't really know if it is or not (there are sometimes display bugs.)

2) This is also the reason A why I kept this video up, since I want to see if it is a bug or not. The reason B is that I don't have upgraded recording equipment yet, which should arrive this week. So audio quality and also the background should be of better quality soon, sorry for the inconveniences.

Why I DON'T watch (most) TV Documentaries

I get asked quite a lot about TV documentaries either which I recommend, like or watch. Well, here are the main reasons why I usually avoid them like the plague. »» SUPPORT MHV «« » patreon - https://www.patreon.com/mhv » paypal donation - https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=TFHEY4P4YU3NY »» MERCHANDISE - SPOILS OF WAR «« » shop - https://www.redbubble.com/people/mhvis/shop »» SOCIAL MEDIA «« » minds.com - https://www.minds.com/militaryhistoryvisualized » facebook - https://www.facebook.com/milhistoryvisualized/ » twitter - https://twitter.com/MilHiVisualized » RallyPoint - https://www.rallypoint.com/organizations/military-history-visualized » tumblr - http://militaryhistoryvisualized.tumblr.com/ Military History Visualized provides a series of short narrative and visual presentations like documentaries based on academic literature or sometimes primary sources. Videos are intended as introduction to military history, but also contain a lot of details for history buffs. Since the aim is to keep the episodes short and comprehensive some details are often cut. » SOURCES « My Brains » DISCLAIMER « Amazon Associates Program: “Bernhard Kast is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon.com.” » TOOL CHAIN « PowerPoint 2016, Word, Excel, Tile Mill, QGIS, Processing 3, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Audition, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Animate. » CREDITS & SPECIAL THX « Song: Ethan Meixsell - Demilitarized Zone

That was very interesting, I like the comments on the use of music, and the story time mode. Both are interesting thoughts, and i will have to watch out for both the next time I am watching somethign on TV. I would love to see you do a pair of videos, one with no music, and another with very low, subtle music playing and see if the listener perception varies between the two. One last note, the sound was a little poor due to echos in the room. Maybe you could hang up some sound absorbing material when you do this type of video. Great content though, I really like your work.

Thank you! Good idea, I was once thinking doing a video in "hyperbole style vs. regular style", so the music thing would also be an interesting possibility too. Meanwhile, here is a short clip of a famous movie clip with different background musics, just re-watched it and I noticed that my mind focused on different aspect of the visuals depending on the emotion of the music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rn9V0cN4NWs yeah, the echo will be gone the next time. I switched the room and today also ordered clip-on microphone. This and the previous videos were basically test runs, since I had no clue how the people would react.

Must admit it was Soviet Storm: WW2 in the east that helped spark my interest in the eastern front just as much as the Halder Diary. I feel you need dramatisations such as Soviet Storm to teach history to those who may not otherwise be interested. Also the Timeline-World History youtube channel has some good thought provoking documentaries, the Great Military Blunders series is another favorite. Its not all doom, gloom and one sided narratives and emotional baiting IMHO

yeah, that is a valid point I can understand, although in some cases it is used as an excuse. Because dramatization and various effects don't need to go hand-in-hand with historical inaccuracies and/or shoddy work. So, for me good quality base content + dramatization = "valid point". But, lacking base content + dramatization + "we just want them to get interested" = "cheap excuse", because just showing people "Triumph of the Will" would probably also get them interested, but I doubt that is deemed "ok" by most people.

Great content and explanations on the whole issue plaguing documentaries. However the audio quality is really poor. It is a new setup/style similar to your video on your previous experiences in the military, but I'd recommending using a lapel mic, or moving the microphone closer.

thank you! yeah, I only released it due to it's unicorn status as described above. YouTube has gone full crazy again. Moved operations to a new room and did some extensive testing yesterday with an external audio recorder, new backdrop, etc. then I did some research and ordered a clip-on microphone. If that is not sufficient, I will "soundproof" the room, it is small enough and it is my office anyway.
