Panzer IV vs. S-35 Somua - Comparison in 1940

Which one was the better tank the Panzerkampfwagen Ausführung D or the French S-35 Somua tank? We look at firepower, armor protection, ergonomics, visibility, mobility and communications. Additionally, a short discussion on why the Panzer III E and Char B1 bis are not used in comparison. The video includes visuals and also footage from the Tank Fest 2018. Nick's original question: Given that your most recent video touches on the Tactical/Technical differences of the Panzer III and the T-34, my curiosity was peaked in regards to other tank comparisons. My question is this: which tank out of the British Expeditionary Forces and the French Army was the most comparable or the biggest threat to the Panzerwaffe during the invasion of France in 1940? »» SUPPORT MHV «« » patreon - https://www.patreon.com/mhv » subscribe star - https://www.subscribestar.com/mhv » paypal donation - https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=TFHEY4P4YU3NY » Book Wishlist https://www.amazon.de/gp/registry/wishlist/3LJIXNJIUXJES/ref=cm_wl_huc_view »» MERCHANDISE - SPOILS OF WAR «« » shop - https://www.redbubble.com/people/mhvis/shop »» SOCIAL MEDIA «« » minds.com - https://www.minds.com/militaryhistoryvisualized » facebook - https://www.facebook.com/milhistoryvisualized/ » twitter - https://twitter.com/MilHiVisualized » twitch - https://www.twitch.tv/militaryhistoryvisualized » RallyPoint - https://www.rallypoint.com/organizations/military-history-visualized » tumblr - http://militaryhistoryvisualized.tumblr.com/ Military History NOT Visualized is a support channel to Military History Visualized with a focus personal accounts, answering questions that arose on the main channel and showcasing events like visiting museums, using equipment or military hardware. » SOURCES « Zaloga, Steven J.: French Tanks of World War II (1) – Infantry and Battle Tanks. Finally watched it. Interesting, and my conclusion is that the S-25 may have stood a chance if in the hands of the Germans instead. It's sounds like they defeated France with a number of technical disadvantages, as well as the French having the home-team advantage when it came to having equipment present and at the front. I can't imagine a force that's as lacking as to have a large portion unable to do something like fully fuel the vehicle. Also interesting to hear about the cancelled French armor attack that turned around. This is the kind of stuff from Top-down, centralized command that the US military has so desperately tried to avoid, even in doctrine. Enjoyed this episode of MHV's Tank Corner! Have a very merry Christmas and thanks!

well, the issue is I think the Germans would have revised the S-35 thoroughly or never put in mass production. I sadly don't know what their views on visibility was from internal discussions. Yet, their tanks are rather well equipped in that regard. Yeah, Chieftain noted once, the key issue of the French was communications in 1940. thank you, you as well!
