Most underestimated Wehrmacht General?

Who was the most underestimated Wehrmacht General in the Second World War? In this video we talk about one of the "non-operational guys", as such we look behind the front lines. We look at Reinhard Gehlen, who from 1942 to 1945 was the head of Fremde Heere Ost (Foreign Armies East), which was the German's Army Military Intelligence Service for the Eastern Front. Yet, Gehlen was extremely successful from transitioning from World War 2 to the Cold War. In 1946 her created Organization Gehlen, which later became the Bundesnachrichtendienst (BND) the German Foreign Intelligence Agency. »» SUPPORT MHV «« » paypal donation - https://paypal.me/mhvis » patreon - https://www.patreon.com/mhv » subscribe star - https://www.subscribestar.com/mhv » Book Wishlist https://www.amazon.de/gp/registry/wishlist/3LJIXNJIUXJES/ref=cm_wl_huc_view?language=en_GB »» MERCHANDISE - SPOILS OF WAR «« » teespring - https://teespring.com/stores/military-history-visualized » SOURCES « Pahl, Magnus: Hitler’s Fremde Heere Ost. Great video, Bernhard! I've always considered Generaloberst Johannes Blaskowitz to be the most underappreciated German general of WWII. Are you familiar with him at all? I'd recommend the book "The Enigma of General Blaskowitz" by Richard Giziowski about him. Other German generals tended to downplay his accomplishments and some think he may have been murdered by those same generals to keep him from testifying against them at Nuremberg.

Very interesting. Impressive that Gehlen handed over a functioning operation to the Allies. Before your talk, I was ready to hear about Raus, whose book "Panzer Operations..... from his notes compiled and edited by Newton, is absolutely absorbing and might well be unmatched in descriptions of tactics and events.

thank you! I came across the name several times, yet, I rarely look into generals. Usually, when I cover a general, it is more about a topic or "theme" around them. Blaskowitz would be interesting for his protest during Poland. About his suicide, it could also be to avoid to betray his comrades. (Just looked up a short biography in one of my books, it had other speculations as well, but none like the suggested murder. Let's face it, there was plenty of written and other evidence to incriminate German generals, as such I think the claim is first and foremost made to sell a book. I might be wrong, but usually most answers are far more sober.)
