Tanks vs Water & Logistics - Road Diaries 2

In this video I ask Nicholas Moran "The Chieftain" about waterproofing tanks and also de-water-proofing. We then - for some weird reason - end up talking about the "L" Word, logistics. Excellent. Dewaterproofiing (DWP) was a big deal. I own a 1953 M38A1 Jeep. They went to great lengths so DWP was simple. Many components have to be vented, like the brake master cylinder and the distributor, and the vents have tubes that lead one the air intake which can be fitted with a schnorkel. One only had to close two valves, loosen the fan belts, put a plug in the transmission bell housing and you could drive thru deep water. It was important to open the valves and remove the plug after leaving the water or had things would happen.

Another point on logistic, Julius Caesar talked about logistics at length in the Gallic Wars, both in the strategic and tactical sense. Briefly, he talks about the Helvetii's two-year preparations as part of their strategy to invade Gaul. He also mentions tactical movements at length in his battle with Ariovistus and they affected the outcome of the battle.

I really wonder how the Germans did this, but then again the Mediterranean was rather calm I guess and they probably avoided a lot of that stuff. Not sure though.
