We start our look into the Death of WCW and the Rise and Fall of the InVasion by reviewing the final WCW Nitro as well as the WWF Raw with the simulcast.

But first, we spend a few hours talking about the sale of WCW.

Right on time for the work day, thank you guys so much for this series 💯

Brxdley.h

ayyyyy been excited for this for a while! this is now my day sorted :)) thank you guys!

Tom Brown

Sorry how long?????

Declan Cairns

How long does that say. Love that

GraysonDrinksWater

I've never wanted a 6 hour podcast more right now. Thank you both for spending over half a work day talking about such an insane topic

Benji

LUKE SAID YESTERDAY THIS WAS DROPPING SATURDAY?!? LETS GOOOO!!!

BUSINESS

Chillin', sippin' and WrestleTalkin'.

Dev King

And i found what im listening to at work

Jason Downey

I have a 6 hour flight on Friday. I was sad this podcast was coming out the day AFTER my flight. Now I need to show restraint and save this for 2 more days. (Not sure which is harder lol)

TWJP

Thank you for dropping this early!! I've actually been counting down the days until it comes out. Easily the wrestle talk extra episodes that I'm most excited for.

james knight

errrrmmm oli i think you'll find the DNA of TNA is Matt Morgan not WCW

mike wolfe

I was in my mid to late 20s during this era thus the Monday Night Wars was something I very much lived thru. I went to several WCW and WWE shows when they came to town. Extremely excited for this series!

Ripper3112

Where's the topless cut Oli... where's it at

Morgan Leggett

Interested to see how Luke and Oli get through so many hours of content without being able to have a TNA Hour

Charlie James

I was going to stop Patreon subscription but then this overstuffed episode dropped and purely because of the sheer commitment and dedication you guys show to making the best show you can I can’t not watch it. Also I absolutely adored this period of wrestling because it felt very naughty, especially the bra and panties match at the invasion ppv with Foley just having the best time as the special guest ref. What a joy this is going to be! Naughty like eating ravioli with Luke and Oli out of the can like Luke’s friend. Thank you for all of your hard work Oli and Luke! You guys rock!

Lawrence

Feel like I'm high on nostalgia!

Phillip Goad

Adjusted for inflation, WWE has 4 wrestlers on payroll who make more per year than they paid for all of WCW.

Jared Michaud

I remember when i had just gotten of a Greyhound bus when I was -11 months old. Watching Vince on a WCW broadcast, I was dumbfounded. I spit out my Beef Ravioli in horror.

Cassius

6 hours to listen to? Hell yeah… Feels like the Snyder cut of wrestle talk podcasts!

slateyplaysgames

Cheers for dropping this early lads, was wondering what to do with my day off turns out it's 10 hours over stuffed with wrestling content from my childhood, looking forward to the next 8 month's

Drew Heatley

Giddy to start this. I was 14 in 2001 so this is my nostalgia.

Glenn Dallas

"That's how hot wrestling was, a wrestler went on a late night talk show." As if Andre and Hogan and Macho hadn't done it a decade previously. Plus Conan was the later show, so guests could be a bit more niche.

Skyler Green

I think Vince may have got overstuffed on those strawberries!

Terrance Stroud

My dad was a wrestling fan up to this point, watching Hulk Hogan during his own childhood in the 80s and followed him as a fan into WCW of which he became a diehard supporter of. After WCW ended, our household did not switch to WWF, we stopped watching wrestling entirely. I believe my dad was caught up in the us vs them of the Monday Night wars and had no interest a Vince MacMann product or seeing the gloating. I think the only thing that could have saved his fandom and others like him was WCW continuing to air in some capacity as a separate show and not being figurehead by Shane. Comeuppance or no, MacMann family drama was the last thing the diehards wanted to see and the complete lack of TV for WCW was a death knell for those viewers.

Dizzy Gal

Not expecting this to drop today. When I was in school, the rumor was that Paul from the Wonder Years grew up to be Marilyn Manson.

Brxdley.h

matrats was the hart dynasty show if i’m not mistaken! it is spoken about in Natties book, it’s a cool story!

Shawn Lindsay

have you seen the Cruiserweight tag title design, they looked unfinished and lethal with so many sharp edges. Also the best chef boyardee advert is Jericho's where je just on a dessert island surrounded by women in bikini's to sell tinned ravioli

TheChiefin

Man I loved this overstuffed episode of the RAW before Wrestlemania X-Seven and the Final WCW Monday Nitro As someone who started watching Wrestling in the Summer of 2003 what a way to celebrate me turning 30 about a couple weeks ago by going through “The Invasion Storyline” easily the greatest what if’s in Pro Wrestling to actually happen and see with some impatience and some things that WWE couldn’t really do until later on in 2002 and 2003 when the Time Warner contracts elapse ended up being one of Wrestling worse storylines because plans changed and they dragged it out longer than WWE had planned out those changes

Chuco Bennett

as a wrestling fan born in ‘04, this series is going to be great to help fill in the gaps of knowledge i have for this period of WWE

Patron15

It was Michael Jackson who removed 2 ribs at our school lmao

Charlie Wood

Anyone who had Luke Owen saying 6 7 on their 2026 bingo card is going crazy right now

DennyDorko

As someone who was a lapsed fan during the entire "PG" and "Reality" eras of WWE...it's going to be so weird hearing you guys do a whole series on things I actually remember happening. I think the problem with delaying the invasion until Time Warner contracts expired was that it would have looked like WCW just went out of business and disappeared. It is possible nobody would have bought into WWF being invaded by a company that already went out of business the previous year. The best move that would have taken care of both these concerns was to give WCW a b-show to keep the brand active until the Time Warner contracts expired, but (as Luke points out) nobody wanted to give WCW a timeslot. Vince not wanting to shell out money for WCW stars also makes a lot of sense when you consider that WWF probably didn't have a lot of free cash after the XFL fiasco. I really think they were making the most of what they had, if only their egos hadn't gotten in the way and they hadn't buried Booker T and DDP. Sorry, I really overstuffed my reply.

Ilan Woll

This podcast was so overstuffed I wonder if Tony Khan produced it.

Ilan Woll

Also had a fond memory of seeing the 2000 Super Bowl at WWF New York, and they had a ton of XFL Promotion, as well as the APA being there at halftime.

mike savage

Seriously I can’t believe anyone at the time (my self included) didn’t see how gross/illegal a boss telling a employee to make out with them 🤮

Figment

The final episode of WCW aired on the eve of my 18th birthday. This was such a weird time frame, and to have this be the last episode of Nitro as a minor was something else. I grew up watching both WWF & WCW. To see the whole thing from beginning to end was something special to live through.

Memphis

Thanks for keeping me sane during a super difficult time in my life and the world in general. I'm having a lot of trouble dealing with multiple issues, and just watching you guys be friends kinda gives me hope.

Iain McOmish

It wasn't Thunder that was on Channel 5 in 2000, it was WCW Worldwide - the syndicated highlights package show, with 60s Batman effects to censor the violence. Weird show!

Adam Wurstmann

Predator handshake meme. Yanks/Brits. Being pricks.

Glenn Dallas

Almost six hours! Can't believe it's already over. Stuffed to the brim with great content, guys!

Jason Downey

The thing I remember the most about this era was being incredibly uncomfortable with the Vince/Trish angle. "Why is the aging, married man drooling over Trish's overstuffed tshirts, and if this is on camera, what's he like off camera" turns out I was right

Luke McGarry

You missed out Pop Idol prior to X Factor

Brody Allsep

1:52:32 That's not even wrestling or carny; that's Wall Street. That's just selling short.

Dogboy369

Over the moon with how stuffed with content this episode was. A great way to start the series. Luke's voice is like a fine Italian ravioli, and Oli, well, he's there too. Can't wait for the next episode, which I get to listen to right now. Jam that jam.

JNorms

I think my fav part of the podcast is when Oli is just sitting back letting Luke tell him what’s going on 😂

Versek

Idk how much content there actually is but the Legend Killer Orton story might be a neat series after this

Luke Kelly

This episode was overstuffed with evidence of the stuff Vince would be accused of doing

SamRichardsNo1

I was so excited when you announced this series. This period of time holds a special place in my heart because it’s right around when I was introduced and started getting into WWF/E. The creepy Vince stuff made me a bit queasy, like I’d overstuffed myself on Luke’s Ravioli. Amazing work lads cannot wait to watch the rest of the series.

Paul Williams

Watching this episode of raw back, I can’t believe how overstuffed it was with in ring action. A whole 16 mins…….about half the length of a Triple H opening segment ramble……

Peter Siddorn

It's been 25 years, yet I can never get over the fact that the last ever segment on Nitro starts with Vince being mad that the timing is screwed up and the first voice you hear is Paul Heyman the face of ECW. It truly was the moment that the US wrestling changed forever and for like almost 2 decade a negative turn. It's going to be a hell of a listen to hear everything that is going to happen around this time.

Will Thornton

Couldn't be more grateful for this content right now. The years started off tough with a break up and 9 hours listening to you two really helps with the much needed escapism

TWJP

This podcast was overstuffed😩 (in a good way)

Morgan Leggett

Is sunglasses super 2000's guy not Sean O'Haire?

Jacob Smith

That episode of RAW sounds like it was more overstuffed than a Luke Ravioli

Findlay

not reached the end but Oli is spot on with Myleene Klaas

Harrison Earle

NEARLY 6 HOURS! I have reached flow state, thank you gents this is perfect

Mcmufferton

It took me 2 days to finish and boy I’m overstuffed from it

Josh Conwell

Feeling insanely OVERSTUFFED after this

Mani Umaria

Great wrestling chat! However, Oli has some bizarre music takes!

L.O.G

This is the Okada Vs Omega WK11 (not counting flair Vs steamboat from that random afternoon house show) of wrestletalk extra. First podcast to break the scale. How did this podcast not take place in the Tokyo Dome

Magnus Grey

I watched this while playing stardew valley and eating cheese and now I'm overstuffed with cheese

Brody Allsep

This has been a great start, and a much needed listen while going back and forth between Dallas, twice, for both TNA shows this week and their "choices," to put it kindly.

Brody Allsep

4:37:10 No, Luke. Randy Savage wasn't The Genius. That was his brother.

Hok

This episode is insanity. I turned it on and never realised how overstuffed RAW was, so much happening and it’s only 25 minutes in. Also loved his long the pod was, half way through got the urge for a big bowl of ravioli go get me to the end.

Captain Nick

I deliver for a major delivery service so listening to this whole podcast in one go wasn’t that hard for me. Can never really be overstuffed of things to listen to while working.

Gareth Jones

Fun fact this podcast is longer than the entire series of heated rivalry

Lily Petal

I love when you guys do a deep dive of something because it brings back so many memories. I have to admit WWE was overstuffed with segments, sorry Oli I mean scenes and very light on actual wrestling and yet I did enjoy it.

David Wikeley

We got WCW Worldwide on Channel 5. It was basically Metal or Livewire for WCW

Darren Jones

I remember watching this episode of Raw, I could believe how overstuffed it was with Vince trying to get his meat in Trish's Ravioli.

Ben

what an overstuffed podcast! am i right, fellas!?

Ryan Daniels

Chef Luke and Oli RaviOLI have gone all out with this OVERSTUFFED review of Raw/Nitro - took me back, great job chaps.

Matty Dee

That episode was overstuffed with Vince vignettes! Am I right or am I right?

Harry Iveson

This show was so good honestly it was so overstuffed with all sorts of good ness jibber jabber! WCW was a Luke warm bowl of ravioli I can’t believe they even thought they’d win the war! Great pod guys

Mark Decker

I think Trish's outfit in all those segments was a bit overstuffed. But the wrestling action was lean as a greyhound, but we did get some extreme moments. Great job on the podcast gents!!

“Burly” Rob Burwell

This episode of RAW was overstuffed with disturbing Trish and Vince touching

Chad Gordy

Raw was way better! Also I eat cheese.

Acon22

I just finished this episode after two weeks and I’m here for this series!!!

Mr. Samuel Scratch

I kind of love how much this and Cutscene are just slow-motion deprogramming of the idea that because someone is rich and successful, they must therefore be intelligent and skilled. Oli mentioned Bischoff "must be smart enough" to know that's not how TV advertising works, but I'd like any evidence of that. Because at the time he was working in TV, it was far less about what you knew, and who you could get to sign on the line after a 3-rails/2 cocktails sales-pitch. This is the man who gave Hall and Nash $300,000 because they implied they wanted it. He was only able to do what he did because of Turner's bottomless pockets. Bischoff is the second luckiest man in pro-wrestling, the first being Vince McMahon, because he got the tutorial boss in a business sim as his "great rival."

KET

Overstuffed on this podcast today!

Dylan Dutch

Vince was Overstuffed a few times in this bad boy 😬

Michael Reu

Im so happy to be able to watch these in full. Thanks again Oli for the discount code!
