We ask just how the much the pit played a role at the first Craig Jones Invitational

CJI and The Invention of Pitcraft - The Fight Primer

Make no mistake, front flips and back flips rank firmly in the "Bullshit" tier of guard pass, but Tackett's biggest weapon is pace and his successful passes are always the second or third attempt in a chain. Using something outlandish as the initiator when you already expect it to fail at least makes the process more fan friendly.

Already can’t wait for CJI 2025. What great fun that tournament was! Great article Slacky J.

Maybe the problem with the Yamma pit wasn't the pit but the fact that the fighters were bums, journeymen and has beens.

Just want to thank you for bringing back the audio track for these last few articles. I have a learning disability related to processing written words and symbols. I read at about a 14th percentile speed, and often need to read sentences out loud multiple times to understand them; combine that with matching the words to video, and I might as well be lost. My aural processing and comprehension speeds are well into the 90th percentiles. Your audio tracks, combined with the video, are invaluable to me, but I didn't want to impose on you by asking for them. Also, great job on working Aldo into yet another analysis. Jose bless :P

Oh, also: "Using something outlandish as the initiator when you already expect it to fail at least makes the process more fan friendly." Can we call this The Sakuraba? Not really. Just another joke about the "this is part one of four in a series on Sakuraba." Stiiiillll Waiting (to tune of Talking Heads' Crosseyed and Painless)

Does ADCC have even a slight chance of surviving if they don't adopt the pit?

The Craig Jones Invitational of making Dunkus Plunkus look sensational.

You can do anything with Gulf money. The question is whether anyone will give a fuck besides the guys in sunglasses sitting in the first few rows. Can't remember seeing a first-time event so perfectly done. Craig Jones and whomever he hired hit it out of the fucking park like Barry Bonds hitting a softball thrown by a five-year-old girl with Down Syndrome.

Great article and with you on having done a 180 on the alley. Loved the ric flair feet on ropes comparison.

Shout to Brandon McCaghren aka Bmac Ninja on commentary at CJI. Great guy, been a mentor to me, and a fantastic jiu jitsu coach

Most pedantic nitpick but I think the move Pat Downey hit on Rockhold is actually an elbow pass. Small differences in when and the set-up. But broadly I find it cool bc the concept you wrote about of maneuvering opponents to a weaker alley positioning could be used for this whole family of moves (arm drag, slide by, elbow pass)
