Hey everyone,

I know there's a lot of well-justified resentment towards placeholders. Unfortunately I need to keep the lights on to be able to continue writing.

I really am sorry for charging in advance. I'll do my best to make a big inroad to the backlog in June. I have already sketched out the scenes for the future chapters, it's just been a case of being well enough to write them.

Best wishes,

Tefler

Screw you and your excuses. I can care less about the money tbh it’s that we can’t trust you at all at this point

Aussie Rob

Blah blah incomplete chapter blah blah placeholder blah blah sob story. Congratulations on poisoning any goodwill your fans had for you. The absence of any other communication from you apart from a monthly "Sorry, no actual writing lol just gimme da cash!" is part o the problem. Keeping us updated would take literally a few minutes every couple of weeks, but yet you fail to make any effort to inform the people who made a pro-active effort to GIVE YOU MONEY! [Edited to add] Correction: Blah blah placeholder*S*. Congrats to the smart fans who limited their payments to 1 per month.

Michael

All good man I honestly dont mind it keep your head up get well soon and keep em coming

Randy

Just like Tefler Fan posted previously, I just wish we could change to giving you the money each month instead of you feeling you have to get a chapter out. I do hope that you feel better this month, whether more chapters come out or not!

Walter Davis

I don’t care. I pay a couple of bucks and he gets to write. I spend less than a cup of coffee and enjoy reading this way more.

Mark Adkins

I love the story, and an glad you're back.

Huh so this isn’t to start a big rambling fight but honestly been a member off and on for about 100 chapters now and I guess the prebuy, while annoying to be sure, I feel more hopeful than anything else. I mean it’s not like he’s been George RR Martin to not even finish his books before doing a tv show and a prequel, and help out on a game. Or like Robert Jordan and die before finishing his series. Tefler has delivered granted not in a timely manner but in a definite one. But more importantly we might be more forgiving if there was more purple pixie sooner than later 😁

Thank you Tefler. To any of yall bitching, then drop. Yall talking like you never ran into hard times. If your so pissy then stop subscribing. Otherwise shut up and read the stories that he puts up cause you know you lovem.

Best of wishes. Hopefully we can drowned out the hatefuls

Best thing you can do Tefler, is keep us in the loop. Don’t go months without a word as you’ve done previously. A small comment on your page is all we need to know your alive and well and that your working on the next chapter, of that you’ve fallen ill and will be back at it as soon as possible. Maybe just a brief update every couple of weeks? Please?

Darragh

Would you at least quit with the lying? You’re not sorry. Just be honest for once. You know this isn’t the right thing to do. You’ve acknowledged from the beginning that you shouldn’t be doing this. You may have a bunch of parasocial sycophants who kiss the very ground you walk on, but YOU know this isn’t right. Otherwise why do you keep apologizing and promising to stop? Are you just a sociopath who will say anything to keep the money coming in? I hope not.

Dude just make us pay more so you can force a consistent schedule, or write something on the side

Personally I have no problems with those placeholders, as you are thrustworthy in my humble opinion. BUT I would advise against that practise. Please consider scaling down the size of your chapters to the workload your are able to handle and build up a cache to have something in case of real life problems.

DB

I don’t mind the prepay. However, my advice is to not write faster but think about how you can increase the number of paying readers (inside/outside of patreon). Have you considered a PG13 version of this story? I like the story but for some reason, I don‘t advertise it to my SciFi friends.

"I know there's a lot of well-justified resentment towards placeholders. Unfortunately I need to keep the lights on to be able to continue writing." -- Tefler So, funny story... I have bills to pay every month, and lights to keep on. I do this by working, then getting paid for the work I've done. It's really effective to do it that way, and I build a really good relationship with those who pay me. Maybe try that, doing the work first instead of acting like an entitled asshat who feels he deserves pay for work he hasn't done?

Puttanegra Ficondo

Not one, but two placeholders a month for not even a full chapter now. And of pretty low quality too. Things are going sour quickly, Tef. Get your shit together. The ideas behind the chapters are good, but the writing is goddam awful. Give us back the brilliance of chapter 100. The difference between reading that and 167-169 is like the difference between watching Starship Troopers and its sequels.

Unresolved Plots

I posted this comment on Discord wrt some of the comments by Patron's about this battle so far. I am really mind boggled by how some people interpret the story. It seems that the majority have come to the conclusion that John should be trouncing other Progenitors easily, but imho they have failed to understand what Tefler has written up to now. Seems very clear to me that many have got it totally wrong. Tefler has been at pains to point out throughout the story that John is a neophyte, who despite probably having more raw power reserves than the average Progenitor, is still very new to using these powers. One clue to this is John still not understanding many of his abilities i.e. his sword. Another is the psychic training battles (all 30+ lost iirc) he and Sakura had against Edraele and Luna was a big clue how this psychic battle would go, that others seem to have forgotten, ignored or are blind to because they wanted something different to happen. Imo, the fault is with the reader if they thought it would go different and to be quite blunt, shows a real lack of critical thought and ability to interpret information. People seem to forget that during this war John and his crew have been completely winging it throughout. Until a few hours before the final battle they still had no clear plan about how to isolate GK. John's talk with GK minutes before the battle started was a Hail Mary attempt at manipulating him that luckily worked. If GK had not taken the bait then the fleet battle and consequently the ground battles would very likely now be going much worse for John's ground forces with him probably stuck on the planet sheltering from an orbital bombardment. Imho, that they have gotten to the stage of GK's attacking forces being reduced to 3 fleets, his ground forces attrited, bogged down and isolated and GK manipulated into battling John one on one is about as good as they could have hoped for at the start of the war when they faced seemingly insurmountable odds

Just a thought… bring in more guest writers to explore tangents … get more feedback from us… have contests with artwork and theme submissions. But most of all, just do the work! Your writing, with the exception of recent posts has been phenomenal. PLEASE, buckle down, get back to Tefler story mode and deliver the full version of your drafts. You’ve developed phenomenally as a writer. If you simply keep your word, I’m sure you’ll find your patronage return to the levels deserving of this amazing saga.

Unresolved Plots

Cignal, who maintains the fantastic TSM timeline excel spreadsheet on Discord made a excellent point there a few days ago. Since John absorbed his guide in Ch.136 only 9 days have passed in the story...9!! Of those 9 days, the first 2 days afterwards the crew had some much needed downtime to recover from all of the events which had recently happened. So John in reality has had 1 week to train with his abilities unrestricted. A brief synopsis of the major things that have happened in the story from then to current events. They have rediscovered Kythshara, travelled to and back from the Larathyran empire , convinced the Maliri males to reintegrate into Maliri society and fought a guerilla war alone against a Progenitor invasion force which is at least 30x stronger than their own forces (probably more like 100x+)! During these events, John has spent hour upon hour shaping for repairs and new tech and in between these bouts of shaping, commanding the Invictus in fleet battles, to the point that the force attacking Kythshara now is only about 10% of the original Galkiran strength that began the invasion. With all this going on, John has found a little time to train and was still only a fraction of a second from killing Gahl'kalgor, who just about managed to raise a shield in time. From what I am reading, John is performing much better with just Sakura (and now Alyssa) against Gahl than he and his entire group of Wards did at the same time against Larn. So to those who are disappointed in John and his performance I am astonished and wondering what you think he could have done better to this point in the last week of the story?

I just caught up from chapter 130 or so to 172. Is there no actual 173 yet? Are these placeholder chapters just a post that’s charged with no content? Am I right in seeing with 184 as the most recent placeholder, at 1 chapter a month he’s behind a year?

Robert Barr

Hellooooooooo …… *kicks dustbunny off keyboard* how’s it going?

Jonathan Fowler

We are approaching the end of January. Does this mean that we might get part or all of Chaoter 173? If Tef keeps it short,it might help whittle down the backlog, He might even succeed in completing two short chapters in a month, and then the fans would be very enthusiastic. I will keeping thinking positive thoughts ... Looking forward to #173!

Jim Owens

Placeholder since may of 2024. 7 months. All I can say is, I hope it's not a half ass half chapter again. If the story wasn't so good this guy wouldn't have anyone left here.
