Hey everyone,

I've made some progress on the next chapter, but I'm only about half way through so far. I've been ill for most of January with one thing after another, so I won't be releasing or charging anything today.

Currently I've got viral conjunctivitis, which I probably caught from my son, so my bloodshot eyes make me look like a recently bitten zombie. It comes with flu-like symptoms, so I've been feeling wasted and not up to writing.

I hope it clears up soon, because I have an appointment next week with a dental surgeon to remove a broken molar... which cracked on New Year's day.

Anyway, I hope you've all had a better start to 2023.

Things happen in life, which makes preparing for chapters even a bigger issue. This puts to delayed even more and now I can see a couple more prepaid chapters to bring in more money since nothing is getting released. No nothing this month. Who knows next month. I will say this though. We need better communication. When you're working a job and you get sick. You call you're work and tell them you can't come in because you're sick. Actually once I have been charged for it, the dynamic changes. If I and others were simply waiting for the next chapter, that hadn’t already been charged for ( in a repeated shady method, I.e. chargeable post minutes before Patreon bills) we wouldn’t have a gripe. But being charged for a promise to provide, then not meeting that promise is the reason for the frustration.

Here’s my take on all this - read it if you like. Look, the tone of the commentary here is toxic - I’m sure none of us are happy with it. But there are some real complaints to be made, and it’s not at all clear that Tefler is listening. What are the complaints I see a lot here? 1) Slow or delayed releases. Yeah, I personally don’t see this as a valid complaint. Writing is a creative endeavor that sometimes flows freely and sometimes completely evades the author. And life can get in the way, of course. The only legit (IMO) aspect of this complaint is the slow release of chapters that have already been paid for - this creates a sense that the author ‘owes’ us these chapters (which is literally true), and isn’t delivering. So, the real problem here would seem to me to be the pre-charging, not the rate of delivery. 2) Excuses for not meeting expectations. Can I be honest? I don’t know Tefler, don’t know anything about him, and frankly don’t give a shit. I’m not being harsh, I also don’t care about other authors, movie directors or actors, sports figures, &c. The excuses seem lame too me, and someone mentioned “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”, but at their root the excuses really don’t matter - all they do is try to explain slow or delayed releases (see above). Likewise a few are excuses/reasons why a pre-charge is necessary - IMO the excuse isn’t really the problem, it’s the pre-charge itself that’s the problem. 3) Lack of communication. Some folks seem to find this to be a problem, and I can see why even though I don’t myself. I think this is particularly an issue at the end of the month when Tefler delivers less than he’d hoped or suggested was his goal. In the absence of communication, many folks expect him to follow through, and when he doesn’t and doesn’t tell us about it until the last possible minute, folks are left disappointed. Something as simple as a comment half-way through the month telling us he’s not making as much progress as hoped for would go a long way, I think, in relieving this problem. Not a big deal for me personally. 4) Posting chapters too close to the billing day/time. The issue here is that folks can’t get their chapters then exit Patreon before getting charged. IMO this isn’t a problem except because of pre-charges - you really shouldn’t have the ability to quit Teflers Patreon before paying for delivered chapters. The issue is folks would like to get the chapters they pre-paid for, then leave when they’re even. Posting pre-charges just before the billing time just looks bad. But again, the real issue is pre-charging, not the close deadline. 5) Pre-charging. This is the crux of the problem, and so is the solution as well. Tefler needs to stop pre-charging, even if this means easing off slowly so-as not to be a shock to his finances. As long as he is behind delivering on what has been paid for, the readers (at least many of us) sense of entitlement will continue, the sense that we’re owed chapters; that the author is beholden to us. Just stopping complaining about this would cure the toxicity of this site, of course, but it would also be complicity in Tefler’s misbehavior. In the absence of complaints, Tefler has no reason not to fall further and further behind, until his writing fails completely. But as it has been pointed out, too much complaining is also counter-productive, because Tefler will (or has) stop reading these comments, and will not be motivated to write well for a bunch of whiners. Me? I’ll continue to complain about pre-charges, but in moderation - mostly to counter-balance the mindless fanboy ass-kissing F5F5F5F5F5F5F5F5 posts. Would stopping pre-charges and maybe a little communication stop the complaints? What planet do you live on? Some folks will find something, anything, real or imagined, to complain about. But I think it would greatly reduce the toxicity of this site (if Tefler cares about it at all), and leave some space for more interesting discussion about the story itself, which is after all why we’re all here. And without this problem, I believe he’d have both more patrons (fewer leaving or gaming the system) and an increase in funding levels from at least some of us. On this note, let’s take our crystal ball and peer into the future - just less than one month into the future. Because I see a problem looming. Without an income this month (thank you for not making another pre-charge!), Tefler is going to need probably two chapter charges at the end of the month to stay afloat. Even if he produces one or two chapters this month (matching any pre-charges), this means that although he wouldn’t fall further behind in terms of chapters owed, he would have fallen further behind in terms of how late they are and financially. He says he has 161 half written, but if he had half a chapter of actual text ready, he would’ve posted it, as he has in the past, and he didn’t. So he probably has to produce 2 chapters just to break even, THEN make a couple of chapter charges to make some money. Can he produce two chapters? How often has this happened in the past? On occasion, but IMO not likely. I hope he does, but if not then he’s likely to fall still further behind. The best-case scenario is that he does two chapters, then pre-charges for only one - therefore making up some ground. But I doubt he can afford to do this. More likely is that he treads water, and there is significant danger of falling further behind (produce one owed chapter, pre-charge for two). Seeing three chapters is a pipe-dream. It seems likely to me that this month, then, is make or break for him. Me? I hope he does well so that this great story continues and I can go back to a higher level of support. Otherwise, if it looks like he’s sinking, I’ll give up hope that this story will ever be completed and I’ll be gone.

We had a great run for 160 chapters, which is an enormous amount, and he was able to create a world that was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, it looks like his creative spark has dimmed and I doubt we will see any more real chapters. Maybe a couple of rehashed ones like some we have seen recently, where nothing happens but he can drag it on one more month, but I am really afraid that the creativity and the innovation of TSM is done for. It is sad watching a lion dying in a whimper.

A year or two ago he went through writers block and took almost 90 days between chapters. Many of us went crazy and were committed but have since escaped. It doesn’t help with all the negativity people drop on the man for the last 6 months. If he needs to recharge then so be it. If people really wanted to help get chapters faster they could throw out ideas instead of complaining. I personally have given him several ideas on discord that were Incorporated into the story. It’s easy to tear something down but a lot harder to build something up. We should all be working to help build a better story and keep the creative spark alive.

I don't post story idea's for Tefler. He has been a great author all these years and the story has been fantastic. He has struggled this past year, but I hope he is able to continue forward with it. When Tefler first asked to pre-charge I didn't have a problem because by his own post's he stated it was not to be an ongoing practice. That turned out to be false. I am not qualified to tell the author how to write the story so I don't put forth idea's. I don't like being charged for chapter's month after month I'm not getting until the next month or sometimes 2 months. That said, I'm still a patron and will be for now.

I have read alot of different stories on literotica but when i found TSM i was instantly hooked. The way this story is written is really amazing. This story even became so popular with so many people becoming fans, tefler made the incredible choice too quit his job so he could write fulltime and produce these works of art even faster for his ever growing fanbase. In his rush too please his fans hunger for more chapters Tefler forgot too account for the fact that life will simply get in the way sometimes. So now he is behind on his chapterdelivery and forced too charge ahead for his chapters simply because he needs a monthly income too pay the biĺls. I would like too remind everyone that tefler hates charging ahead of time for chapters even more then the ppl complaining about being charched ahead of time. If he had just kept his normal job and only writen on his spare time i doubt we would even be on chapter 100 now. Please consider this the next time you post an f5 or complain about charges ahead of time. Tefler is not a storymachine but a human being with a family too support, Who already made a huge leap into the unknown by quitting his job for us!!! @tefler i hope you and your family are in good health and please take all the time you need too write this incredible story.
