Shisui sold the hairpin because that way it has a chance to make it back to MaoMao versus if she took it with her.

There is currently enough material for eight seasons. Each season has two books of the light novel. For example, book 1 and 2 are for season 1, book 3 and 4 are for season 2, and book 5 and 6 are for season 3. Book 16 will be released in English this month. By the way, search Google for Tamamo no Mae. It is an old Japanese legend.

Season 3, Cour 1, starts in October 2026, in less than six months, while Cour 2 starts in April 2027. The movie is scheduled for December 2026.

Hi, LN reader here and season 3 and up only gets better if you can believe it! As for the kiss, yes you are correct, I found a lot of reactors missed that detail. Maomao was always repulsed when Jinshi tried to make an advance on her, but this time rather than pull away, she simply admires his scar and seems to accept the advance. Part of maomaos reluctance to accept any other dynamic between her and Jinshi is because she is of the mindset that she is a servant and Jinshi is a noble, making a relationship completely out of the question for that era (she says this in an inner monologue during the frog incident). She also refuses to associate or accept her status with Lakan and his clan - and since the La clan is a prestigious family, being his daughter would make her a princess as well, but maomaos Great Wall of denial makes her unable to accept this fact. 🥲😭

Hahaha now you know why I said this opening makes me cry when we first started this cour😭 It feels like just a regular upbeat anime opening when we first watch it but watching back, the first half of the opening and the entire ending are pretty obviously dedicated to Maomao, Shisui, and Xiaolan's doomed friendship. Their bond was so sweet, so wholesome, so heartbreakingly short-lived, but that just made it all the more precious😭💕They deserved to spend so much more time together 😢😢 (The final scene of the opening in particular makes me sob, it's not a huge stretch to interpret it as Xiaolan and Shisui waving goodbye to Maomao, pushing her forwards, as the two butterflies representing them fly off into the distance as they prepare to spend their lives apart😭 and it ends with them all holding hands and an image of the delicious ice-treat they shared together at the peak of their friendship 🥹)

and yesss jinmao gang we were eating good, the majority of the series is focused on plot stuff so we only really got like 3-4 episodes this season where they had any sort of major interaction but my god they were amazing episodes 😂🥰

Yes!! So true. And she is not the type of character to get flustered. I'd expect her to make Jinshi flustered if anything 🤣 She definitely caught feelings but doesn't want to admit it 😏 I can't wait for more moments of them in season 3. Slow burns have the best pay off so I believe it 🥰

Wow I had no idea there was so much content. I hope they animate the whole series.. One of the reasons I stopped watching romance anime is because they're hardly ever completed and the viewers are just left hanging. I NEED the development between Jinshi and Maomao 😭

This show makes you go through such an emotional rollercoaster and it is such a masterclass in not taking for granted the small moments in your life because you don't realize when it might be the last time you are with someone. The one thing the light novels do better in explaining is that Maomao is depressed in the end which is she is actually showing emotion with shedding the tear while reading. Also she was going to cut her finger because she isn't feeling much. So that is also why Jinshi bites her to try to get her to come back. So it's so much more. They are still writing more light novels. Light Novel 16 is coming out in English in a couple of days. So we will continue to be getting more. The movie we get this year is a all new story not from the light novels. I think more people are starting to wake up to how good this show is, so I would say especially as you get closer to Season 3 don't be afraid to try posting on youtube again and see how it gets traction.
