So some context, his shikai is based on children's games and his bankai is based on theatre plays for adults. We know this because the play shunsui is telling is a suicide story of a couple, a man and a woman. Lillie Barro is the man, Shunsui is the woman. In Act 1: because the man hit the woman, he feels great shame as if the wounds he inflicted he can also feel them (and it becomes real damage). Act 2: the man starts feeling even worse for what he did and develops a sickness because of this great shame. Act 3: as a way to atone the man drops into a endless ocean hoping to drown and the woman also drowns with him because she pities him. However, the man becomes a coward, starting to swim up to the surface abandoning his promise to drown along with the woman. Act 4: As a result of all this, the woman wanting to get rid of the man's regret and cowardness, cuts his throat and then she drowns, as if the promise they made was never broken. Btw, the woman who is kyoraku's zanpakuto spirit initially had her anime debut during the"zanpakuto rebellion" filler arc during bleach's original run.

We did get a hint about Lille's powers when he fought Oh-Etsu when the latter closed the distance and tried to attack the former. But Oh-Etsu said that the blade slipped right through Lille, which was an instance where he opened his left eye. Lille, in his Vollständig form, represents biblically accurate angels. According to the Bible lore, people stand frozen in place due to seeing the true forms of angels. Similarly, when Lille activated his Vollstandig, Shunsui could not move from the spot, giving Lille a window to attack Kyoraku. You guys pretty much surmised the AOE effect of Kyoraku's Bankai. One addition that I want to make is that the conditions of the theatre play are what determine the people who get hit by it. This is why Ukitake stopped him from using it against Starrk in the Arrancar arc.

I never understood that concept of shunsui’s bankai and shikai but it is so thought out and interesting to me. My only question is can he choose the theatre play for different opponent? Or is it the same play everytime he uses it? Because i think in his shikai he can use various child games so im still intrigued by that. Also my only gripes with this episode was the presentation, in the manga shunsui’s bankai feel more dark here it feels like a somewhat uneasy joyful feeling but Idk I preferred it in the manga a little bit
