An important distinction is that it isn't necessarily that Orihime couldn't keep up, because she certainly could in most of Ichigos battles she was involved in, it's that he would not allow her to help him. Someone like Ichigo trusting in someone else to protect him is a big deal. Also it seems like Yhwach and Jugram can just share powers to some extent regardless of whether Yhwach is awake or not, which is why he tells Uryu that his plan was reasonable but mistaken.

It’s a cool detail that in Cour 3, when everyone first arrives in the destroyed palace, it’s mentioned that—because of Yhwach—they cannot create footholds with reishi in the air to stand and run in the sky… so here, Urahara uses his Bankai to negate that nerf and restructure the air itself into something you can traverse on. Bleach is SO REWARDING on the rewatch!!! :D And ASKIN!!! SO COOL!!! His Look. His voice. His dialogue. His color scheme. His music. His sound effects. His powers! The way he’s slightly meta with how he calls out shonen tropes here and there. I. Love. Every. Single. DETAIL!!!!!! ;alsdkfalsdkjfjkjdfkd @o@ Lol, the irony!. Back in the day we used to moan, "please faster!", since the anime would bog and slow things down so it wouldn't le the manga catch up. Now, we all cry together, "No! Please, we want more!!!" Haha :)

What I've always liked about this battle is that when Urahara says the line about if you lose, you die is the first time we get "real Urahara" that's the man behind the goofiness—a calculating, ruthless warrior...who just happens to be a good guy. He's actually not that different from Mayuri. Mayuri just invades his allies' bodily autonomy more often. And I love how they cleared up what was going on here; in the manga it was hard to tell, and here in the anime they show that Urahara is constantly restructuring himself in order to deal with all the poison. I believe they couldn't account for the Soul King's power, so the sharing limitation is between Yhwach and Jugo is now gone. This is new and wasn't in the manga.
