Se(a)cret Summer Project (Patreon)

Here's my update for the secret summer project I've been working on for, well, a few years, technically!

As part of my RogueRats themed sets, I have been working on my "Life's a Beach" idea, featuring seagulls!

You've already seen this bad boy, Arnold, my main RR seagull. But I wanted to make a beach towel that patterned him and his friends!

It's still a hefty Work in Progress, and I can only hope to be ready for this summer. My end goal is to make some long beach towels, but it's really difficult finding a manufacturer at the moment who won't only print on cheap-looking microfiber cloths. I want cotton! From what I've found so far, cotton towels require a quantity demand of one thousand...yikes. I'm still looking though! If all else fails, I'm determined to have this in-hand for next year.

The process for making this towel has been pretty fun though. In order to get some good, unique shots of the burger and fries, I ordered a heavy meal to take photos of! Shout outs to Hi Pointe, who I might make a nod to if I add in a cup to the scene. (So, so many fry photos...)

I also ended up naming most of these gulls, simply so I could organize my layers instead of naming each "Bird 1", "Bird 2", etc, and inevitably losing track of them. So, if it interests you--

Peckish, because he's the least hungry-looking of them all. He's only a little peck..-ish.

Jordy, short for Gibraltar, because...I don't know. He just looks like some guy. I spent no more than 10 seconds coming up with these names, don't @ me!

? Not sure about this guy. I just call him "Skree". Do you have a name suggestion? Comment below and I'll name him!

Lando, 'cuz he's coming in for a landing! Also, I just watched Star Wars.

Arnold! Our good buddy, the main man. I need to add his sunglasses in somewhere.

Spiff, because seagulls' heads look sort of alien from a front angle. Named after Calvin & Hobbes's iconic Spaceman Spiff :)

Glut. What's that turkey bit underneath the chin? ..oh, it's called a "wattle". It looks more like a glut! Anyway, this guy has his chin poking out and he's coming in hot, the glutton.

Ted. Also just looks like some guy. I'd name him Alan if we didn't already have an Arnold in the lineup.

Wobble. He's leaning forward a lil! He also looks like a duck a bit, maybe I should change it to "Waddle".. Or I should make him look like less of a duck >w>;;

Anyway! I still need to add in various bird details, see if I'm limited to a flat color palette or if I can go in and add shading & details, and find a way to make this a reality. But for now, I hope you enjoyed the sneaky peek! :D I'll see you in the next one!
