It's time for the iconic masterpiece!!

I finally know where so many references/quotes come from!! 🤣

This was an epic undertaking, and I completely see why it's a masterpiece. It's been like 12h since I've watched it and I've had time to think about it a bit more. I'm not a fan of Al Pacino and his emotionless/expressionless acting for the majority of the film. The point where I start not really caring for his character is when he's in Sicily and falls in love (?) with Apollonia, he seems unaffected by anything afterwards (I know in theory the betrayal by his bodyguard and her death help push him to becoming the new Godfather, but to me, the acting was not there). I know I'll get a lot of flak for that, but that's just like my opinion, man.

Marlon Brando was just fantastic though! Let me just add him to my list of actors to see more of 😅

I love the story, and the characters, and seeing as it's based on a book, I'm definitely going to be reading the book. I love the idea Michael, the execution in the movie was not for me, so I'm hoping to enjoy the character more in the novel!

I would love to know your thoughts on the movie! What did you like, or not like? Please keep things civil in the comments, I find that iconic movies tend to evoke strong emotions in a lot of people.

For this style of reaction, you need your own copy to watch the movie.  You can set picture in picture by right clicking twice on the video and selecting "Picture in picture". The right clicking twice is a bit tricky, because you have to right click, then move your cursor so it's not on the menu, then right click again

Thank you so much for being here and watching along with me!!

FULL LENGTH REACTION | The Godfather (1972) [2025]

Reminder that you need your own copy of the movie to watch along with me since this is solely my reaction. The video is there so you can have an idea when the scene changes in case you need to sync up, but it is HEAVILY blurred so I don't have any copyright issues. Enjoy!!

I won’t spoil by saying which.. if not all movies to watch.. But; there is an edit.. kinda hard to find called ‘the Godfather saga’ I believe.. (NOT the ‘Godfather Coda’.. that’s something different) that cuts the movies into chronological order.. for me, it’s not the Pacino performance that I’m troubled by.. but all the flashback/flash forwards that make my brain hurt..

I think Pacino makes up for that in The Godfather II

In the wise words of Peter Griffin: "I didn't care for the Godfather". I appreciate the film and understand why people love it.. but I seen them once, and haven't had any desire to go back and watch them again to be honest!

You're not supposed to like Michael. Pacino did an excellent job showing his character change from not wanting to be part of the family's business dealings, to being forced to by the assination attempt on his father, killing of Sonny and Appolonia. The Godfather 2 earned him an Oscar nomination for best Actor. I've watched this movie countless times, and my opinion is Pacino's acting was flawless. I respect your opinion, and it's the first time I've heard or read anything negative about any actor in the film. Hopefully you'll react to the sequel where his performance is even better in my opinion.

Be aware that parts of the book are *much* different than the movie. About a third of the book is a pretty weird subplot that was skipped in the film. I mean *really* weird. I was very surprised when I read the book. Loyalty runs deep, but deeper still lies silence - a kiss seals the grave. - Scot

Thanks, Vero! 🫳 I hope you'll see young Brando in A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE (1951), someday.

I wasn't planning on spending three hours this morning watching a movie, but when I saw that YOU had posted THE GODFATHER, I was happy to spend the time. I’ve always liked your intelligent reactions, and this one does not disappoint. One of my all-time favorite, re-watchable films.

If you plan on watching the second one, make sure you have a copy with subtitles for the italian, as its spoken a lot and for some reason (at least where I am from) most versions of part 2 ,for some reason, dont have subtitles while they speak italian.

The sequel is a quite different movie. Many like it over the first one. One of the rare sequel-is-in-the-same-class movies. There are unusual aspects of it you might find appealing, so one vote for you to consider reacting to II.

And as far as the movie itself, the willingness to spend time and let a scene live is so rare. When Sonny gets the call about where the dinner is, its such a long walk to the phone and back. The willingness to let scenes do that is rare. I have different scales for the quality of a movie, and its "rewatchability". many superior films are one-and-done for me, but others, like this one, grow with each rewatching. The movie version of comfort food for me.

There is also a series on Paramount+ called "The Offer" that is about the making of the Godfather. I really enjoyed the series and sheds some light on some of the scenes and characters as well.

It's important when hearing dollar amounts in period films to recognize their value in today's world. $50,000 (the amount Solozzo offered Luca Brasi in 1945) was worth more than twice that in 1972 (when the Godfather was released) and nearly $800,000 in 2025.

Still not enough to me if it would feel like I can die at any minute because of it 😅
