Christmas is all around us 🤩🤣

A really enjoyable film with so many different representations of love 🥰

It's really an emotional rollercoaster throughout, with some good moments, heartbreaking moments, uplifting moments and some really funny moments too.

I thought there would be too many characters, and it would be spread too thin, but every storyline was satisfying and had its time to shine.

Despite Alan Rickman's character, that man can act and be so captivating!!

Everyone was fantastic 🤩🤩

Loved your reaction to this movie and you're absolutely right - you should watch more romcoms. If you liked this, then I would like to recommend you "Four Weddings and a Funeral", "Notting Hill", "Two Weeks Notice", "Music and Lyrics" (all peak romantic Hugh Grant) or "Singin' in the Rain", "Roman Holiday", "Breakfast at Tiffanys", "Definitely, Maybe", "About Time", "The Proposal", "When Harry met Sally" - off the top of my head...👌 Haven't seen this movie for a while now and I remembered why I really liked it...😍 So many great actors and so many heartfelt, adorable, loving stories. I always find it interesting that most people don't see how ambivalent many of those love stories are. Not all have a happy ending, some characters sabotage their relationship, some lose their love, we have one unrequited love story - and they all have a common theme - love. The movie is from 2003 if I remember correctly. The thought of making a romantic ensemble movie came to Richard Curtis when he browsed through all the romcom ideas in his drawer that never made it into a full script. So he went and spliced a bunch of them together. The director and writer Richard Curtis is also the writer of "Four Weddings and a Funeral", "Notting Hill", "About Time" and he - together with Rowan Atkinson - created and wrote Mr. Bean. "Love actually" was his debut as a director. The wedding flashmob was copied quite often after the release of this movie. It is a great surprise idea afterall, if you do it right...😊 All the amazing firsts for me when I saw this movie back in 2003 - I knew many actors from other movies, some were up and coming and some who were already known in their country became really famous afterwards. Laura Linney was more known for dramatic roles like "The Truman Show" or "Mystic River". Her love story with the (9 years younger) Rodrigo Santoro was probably the most tender and touching story and really bittersweet. She has such a great nuanced acting style. Rodrigo Santoro was already popular in Brazil, this was his first british acting job and it made him famous all over the world. Heike Makatsch, who played Mia (Alan Rickmans seductress), is a popular german actress. At the time she was together with Daniel Craig (pre Bond). They lived in London and she auditioned for a lot of english movies. This was her biggest international part so far. The ever fabulous Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman played the aged couple whose love got caught up in routine and the mundane day-to-day life so well. Those two always deliver. Emma Thompson standing beside her bed, crying and listening ot Joni Mitchells "Both Sides Now" is one the most emotional moments in movies I've ever seen. So heartbreaking. Everyone who got blindsided by their partner could immediately relate to how she feels. And how she managed to not fall apart but drying the tears and carry on... just wow...😢 With Andrew Lincoln it was the other way around for me: When I saw him in "The Walking Dead" I thought - Hey, that's the guy from "Love actually"...😂 His love story was always the one I could not fully get behind. I get it that you can get a bit obsessed if your love is unrequited, but the (taken out of context very romantic) idea with the cards was a step too far for me. All that happened right under the nose of his unsuspecting best friend. That she let him off easy and and even kissed him (albeit a good bye kiss) felt like adultery waiting to happen. Thank god he came to his senses and left. Add to it that Keira Knightley was barely 18 at the time (she was doing "Pirates of the Carribean" back to back with this one). It made it all the more uncomfortable for me...🤔 I had the same thought about Martin Freeman as you - he was so young. He just gathered a bit of fame with the british "The Office", his whole career was still in the future. He was actually one of the lesser known actors (internationally) in the cast. His and Joanna Pages love story was probably the cutest and funniest of the movie. The two of them had such a great chemistry and the characters actually got to know each other very well (they even saw each other naked several times) before they got into a relationship. It's been a while since we saw a pre-action Liam Neeson. Many of the younger viewers don't know that he was a celebrated character actor ("Schindler's List") before he played the role in "Taken". His "love story" with his stepson was so great written and played and they cast the perfect young actor for his counterpart - Thomas Sangster. By the way: The blonde woman Liam Neeson met in the end was actually the real Claudia Schiffer, the former german Supermodel, that his character talks about. It's a little strange that she didn't appear as herself - I guess the idea is that his character comes together with someone like Claudia Schiffer. Hugh Grant was on his peak as the lead in romantic comedies, "Love actually" is one in a long list of successful romcoms he did in the 90ies and early 2000's. Until today he is cringing at his dancing scene. I love that his career gathered steam again in the late 2010's, when he got the chance to break with his image, to play sleazy douchebags (comedic as well as dramatic) - really well. It gave him the opportunity to remind the audience that he can do more than just awkwardly adorable fall in love. My favorite love story was the clumsy english writer and his portugese housekeeper. I loved it so much that they were so in line with each other without understanding the other one...❤️ At the time Colin Firth was the go to Actor for the nice guy who never gets the girl. It was nice change, but his really memorable roles only came along some years later. Lucia Moniz was (and is) a popular portugese tv presenter and actress. Last but not least you have to love Bill Nighy. The f++++d up old rock star and his manager had me in stitches...😂 ... and it got really touching in the end, when he declared his love to his manager (another great actor - he had almost no lines and yet transported so many emotions with his facial expressions alone). The DVD had a little extra love story that didn't make the cut. It revolved around the head mistress of the school. She lives in a lifelong relationship with her wife who is terminally ill. Her story was supposed to come together with a little story about Bernard (Emma Thompsons son) that was cut and so her little side story didn't fit anymore. You could see it though on the DVD and it was really moving and sweet. Wow, that was lot more then I thought I would write. Thanks for reading. Looking forward to your next reaction...🤩

This was such a welcome treat, thank you. I have a bunch of reactions saved up for when I’m in a better mood, but the joy from this one and Chitty were just what I needed. Just full of really heartwarming moments, sure to cheer up (almost) everyone who watches it. I got the feeling you didn’t have the subtitles for Aurelia’s lines but you seemed to really get the gist of it anyway. Something I only picked up on this time around was early on Sam calls Daniel by his name but later calls him Dad. That was another sweet moment. For more of Sam and Daniel there are some deleted scenes.

I second Silverarrow’s recommendations, with the addition of The Holiday. I still have an unwatched Blu-ray of Singin’ In The Rain I picked up cheap, in the hope you will eventually watch it.

I really enjoyed this movie; I’ve seen it a few times since I saw it in the movies. It's one of my Christmas favs, like It's a Wonderful Life. I am so happy that you enjoyed it and also recognized Mr. Bean :). There were so many couples, and I really loved seeing Lliam Neeson in a nonviolent role and I wish he did more of them. Whenever I watch it feel so sorry for Karen, played by Emma Thompson when she opened her Christmas present and realized what her husband, Harry (Alan Rickman) did, but I’m thinking and hoping that they probably reconciled and he made amends. But I always feel saddest for Sarah, played by Laura Linney who is madly in love with Karl, but torn between the care of her brother. I am hoping that she develops a better balance and also be able to provide her brother more professional support so that she can also have her own life, otherwise at an older age she may grow to resent the situation Karl, played by actor Rodrigo Santoro; OMG, in this role is just one of the most handsome men I’ve ever seen in the movies and in this role, he also seems so nice and considerate, and he really cares for Sarah. It’s a really great movie. Some other great romantic movies listed next and the ones with the asterisk just means you might need to bring tissues, kind of tear jerkers: Sliding Doors (1998), Gwyneth Paltrow, love this movie. Moonstruck (1987) with Cher and Nicholas Cage. *Ghost (1990) with Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze and Whoopee Goldberg, *Titanic, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Kate Winslet Pretty Woman (1990) Richard Gere, Julia Roberts, *West Side Story 1961, 10 Academy Awards Crazy Rich Asians is a 2018, great movie. *A Star is Born 2018 with Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga The American President (1995), Michael Douglas and Anette Benning Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961), Audrey Hepburn
