I hate when stories really make you despise a character and then wimp out on their comeuppance. This is awesome, though.

Liam Gradwell

Here we go. This is what one “certain” character gets what’s coming to them.

The Akimbo Knight

I legit don’t think you could have created a better thumbnail for this vid lmao

TinIsHere

Damn. I wish I could tell you that season 4 picks up with Grace or Hazel, but it doesn't. Because season 5 was canceled, this is the last we see of both of those characters. I don't want you to go in hopeful that we see them again. We get glimpses of Amelia, but not much after that since season 4 was supposed to be the set up for season 5.

SauceyRed

Again, all the emotions Elijah has when it comes to Simon, are what I had with all the Korra antagonists. In regards to Simon, I don't have any strong negative feelings, yeah he was the antagonist, but no strong reaction anywhere close to Elijah's lmao. Anyway, I wish they had expanded more on Simon's backstory, he's literally one of the main characters. They wouldn't have had to keep him alive, but just given us a taste of why he was the way he was. As much of an antagonist as he was, there was a reason he became that way, and I would've been really interested in seeing what happened to him. When he met Grace, he was an *actual* child, and he immediately got the misconception that the higher the number, the better you're doing, probably from a mix of that being how scoring usually works, but mainly because *Grace* was the one to instill that initial (wrong) idea. I feel like they might've planned to elaborate on him, with all the stuff with the Cat, but I don't really know. I did feel sympathetic toward him, particularly in the last episode with the little we got from his first meeting with Grace, but it's not enough to understand the *why*. I didn't really feel *happy* that he died, just meh.

Englewood Pony

I kind of agree but also not, as I think not seeing Simon’s backstory helps us with 2 things 1. Not trying to excuse what Simon did. He’s very sympathetic but I think the show runners what YOU to know that what potential nightmare he’a gone through doesn’t mean it absolves him 2. You almost see a little bit of it through context clues throughout the show. He loves miniatures maybe signaling a military parent or the likes of that - which could explain why he’s so desperate to be useful.

DarkGodHao

FINALLY YOU HAVE ARRIVED TO THIS FINALE!!

Englewood Pony

Glad you enjoyed the finale, though I feel like your SUPER hatred of Simon kind of kills the fun of the season. I love Grace but I ask people not to forget that she and Simon were doing the exact same bs together - its only recently that they fractured. Grace was always the manipulative one - that was always clear, even said it in the show, and her more innocent look on her worldview made it so she would never have stopped unless she met someone like Hazel. While I think Simon ultimately damned himself when he decided not to change when Grace was considering, I think the world damned him by even making him interact with Grace at such an impressionable age and such possible issues of attachment (which also explains why he was so tore up by the cat). I love your passion Elijah, I just hope you can appreciate the writing as well.

SauceyRed

I see your points, though I think they could've achieved point 1 with showing just a bit of his backstory, a taste, and have him die as he does. His death in itself, to me, feels like it accomplishes the "it doesn't absolve him" part, and understanding him just a bit more could've been just as effective in its message, but also more interesting than "kid misunderstands train, becomes (more of???) an asshole, then dies." We barely know anything about him, and I just would've liked to know, like, anything. Was he an asshole before he entered the train or did Grace and his misbelief make him one? Was he abused? Bullied? Why did he end up on the train in the first place? Wouldn't excuse him, but would bring more depth to his character, in my opinion. I just never cared too much about Simon as a character. He was just kinda there for me, though I do like him a bit as a character. The only points I really cared about his story/character was when he was with the Cat, and when we see him as a kid.

Cherucha Idc

I like Simon cause he is a great foil to Grace that does a great job showing a different side to the train and how it can hinder just as much as it can help passengers. Also I enjoy a well written antagonist, that said his death is very much deserved even if it is also kind of sad in a way cause you can easily see how he could've ending on the same road to healing as Grace; but didn't due to doubling down on horrible choice after horrible choice.

xattygt

Please don't go into season 4 with high expectations. Season 4 is still a really good season but season 3 set the expectations so high that it made people very disappointed

Ryan

And this is why it's so important that we get the moment where Grace saves Simon, only for him to immediately kick her off to her presumed death. That makes clear that whatever chance he had for redemption is gone, and at most you can mourn the person he could have been but the one he actually is only deserves to be put down.

SauceyRed

Yeah I'm not saying they should've redeemed him or not killed him off, I just would've liked to know more about him before they did, I always want to know the motivations and reasons behind why antagonists are the way they are, which we got with Amelia in Book One, Belos in The Owl House, Bill in Gravity Falls, King Andrias in Amphibia, Toffee in Star vs the Forces of Evil, etc, but not really with Simon. I get that the focus of the story was Grace, but I feel with how closely intertwined her and Simon were, he would've had a bit more focus. I'm just curious, is all. It would've been neat to know who he was before the train.

xattygt

Ah infinity train the only TV show to ever exist where a character goes from bad to evil to villain to full anime antagonist in the span of 10 short episodes while not being rushed at all. Good storytelling

Marisa Maribel

I was looking forward to seeing your reaction to Simon going bye bye, and neither of us was disappointed! I’m glad you see why so many of us consider this our favorite season! Some consider it the best, and I completely understand that. But I’m more interested in personal preferences like favorites than discussions of something objective like best and worst. That’s just me though. No shade to people that like discussing that, you’re all completely valid too! Either way, the first 3 seasons of Infinity Train are amazing in my opinion, and they just kept getting better until Season 3 raised the bar even more! I love Season 4 a lot too! But I’m going to echo some others in saying not to go into it with high expectations of what might happen. I want you to form your opinions on the season based on what it actually is. Not judge it based solely on whether it answers all your questions or not. I don’t want to spoil things, but it has already been said by others that it’s a more self-contained season, so I’ll just reiterate that. I hope you enjoy it anyways, but it’s fine if you don’t as well. We watch you too see your honest reactions, and to hear your opinions on the things you watch and play. And sometimes that will mean you’ll like something that other people don’t, or dislike something that other people like. That’s completely fine, because we all have different opinions, and that’s a good thing! I love your reactions, and I’m always looking forward to seeing more!

Spyko

sadly s4 is disconnect from s3 :c Amelia an Hazel story were planned to be s5 (or a movie ? I don't remember) but the show was cancelled. Still holding hope for a renewal, it happened once, it could happen again ! Maybe... was really excited for you to see "Steven" demise, did not disappoint lol never thought I'd see you like that ahah

Simon was so toxic he was too toxic for the roach thing

SK- Eferthigra

Ok I know I commented on the last episode that no one is truly the villain, but apologising to these mythical Simon fans? I mean I have no faith in humanity but even I doubt that there would be anyone sick enough to support Simon. I stand by "that what happened to him was a tragedy". I don't believe in the death penalty, in an ideal world everyone can be redeemed and people have no power over that and no right to call someone off, but I no that its not always possible to expect someone to change. Simon got on the train at a crossroads he was confused, but he so desperately tried ignore the help he was being provided, and fuelled himself with so much toxicity you couldn't even call him human anymore. He cased so much pain and horror to the world rather than trying to help or fix it. I respect grace for attempting to save him and give him a chance but he was so far gone he basically killed himself, there would be no satisfying ending that didn't resolve in Simons death and that is a tragedy, not because you should feel sad for him but because you should feel bad for the world that made this and the loss of what the world never had the chance to fix and it is indeed all Simons fault.

Moonie

I couldn't wait till you got to this episode I saw his death a few weeks ago before you reacted to it and I was like "oh I can't wait for Elijah to react to this she's going to have a party!" you're reaction was better than I ever imagined it would be lol

og.monstr

Really uncomfortable watching a black girl be referred to with what is essentially a racial slur - Void - by a white guy. Who's supposed to be her friend. Yeah no, Simon deserved to die the most miserable, excruciating death imaginable. In some ways he's worse than Belos or Horde Prime: he lacks their grandeur and power. He's just a bitchass bully.

Terrell

I was waiting for simon's death ever since he killed Tuba and it did NOT disappoint😂

Eliteguard99

Simon is an interesting and tragic character because he's supposed to symbolize the "Nature vs Nurture" debate. Simon wasn't always a monster, he was a child when he was placed on the train and wasn't the evil monster he became. Unfortunately his low emotional intelligence was something he refused to work on and his persistent need to be right all the time and control everything around him was his undoing. Simon and Grace also became co-dependent on each other, encouraged each other's worst aspects and fed into each other's psychosis. He's still child, he's been trapped on the train for years, and it's doubtful that he would had turned out the way he did had he not been trapped on the train for over half his life, and as a result he's a very tragic character.

Eliteguard99

I loved that Grace's character arc can be summed up as "Grace learned that she's a colossal PoS and had to change or else."

Eliteguard99

The last episode also reveals that despite Amelia's number being so high she never tried to kill a passenger.

Eliteguard99

Unlike, for example Belos AKA Phillip (and another older man in another certian show) who made all his depraved decisions as an adult.

Eliteguard99

Yeah Simon and Grace were co-dependent and enabled each other's worst tendencies for years. In a way Gace (and Amelia to an extent) indirectly helped make Simon into the monster he became, just like dream Hazel said.

Joey Quixote

Here lies Simon Laurent. Rest in piss. Now someone get a vacuum and clean that shit up! And when you're done, yeet that motherfucker off the train! This is why Grace Monroe is my favorite Passenger. She is DEEPLY flawed, and has done terrible things. BUT when faced with new information, she learned from it. She changed direction. She grew. Her story doesn't end happily, but it ends hopefully. She can't undo what she did, but she realizes that what she did was wrong, and she changes course. Simon, on the other hand, doubled down. Refused to admit fault, refused to accept that he'd made the wrong call. We see him at the peak of villainy. Children carrying him on a fucking throne. Tries to make them murder Grace. When the Ghom attacks, he has a chance to help her, to work with her to defeat a common enemy. And he uses the opportunity to try to kill her. And finally, after she saves his life, he still tries to kill her. He doesn't succeed, but the intent is what matters. If killing Grace earned him the "high score", you know he wouldn't have stopped there. To those who blame Grace for what he became, while she's not 100% without fault, it's spelled out here. He was never Grace's responsibility. His actions were his own. His decisions were his own. Kid never took responsibility for his shitty behavior. I think Simon is such a triggering character because we all know someone like him. Whether they be as distant as some rando on the internet or as close as our immediate blood. Someone who lives in their own little world where they're never wrong and everyone else is to blame for everything that goes wrong in their life. We all fuck up in this life. Nobody is perfect. Having the high score isn't important. What's important is learning from your mistakes and trying to do right by those you've hurt.

Myles_Not_Morales

Ngl I literally envisioned your thumbnail for this reaction weeks ago😂 I knew you'd be happy to see that guy perish

Bailey

God, the ending to episode 9 was creepy as hell. Grace has made a lot of mistakes, but she's started to learn and grow, and I think if I was her I'd probably also blame myself for Simon ending up where he is now. And all the other kids have fallen into that too. He's too far gone at this point, but it didn't need to go this way for them. This is a tragic story and I love it but also hate it (in the good hate way) This show is great at telling stories about flawed people. Holy shit, Simon's death was morbid. I saw the thumbnail, but seeing it in motion was intense. I'm not sad he's gone, but I do feel bad for Grace and the kids having to see that, damn. I know he was a monster in the end, but that would be traumatizing for them

Eliteguard99

Grace managed to get out of the cult that she and Simon made, and the two of them were co-dependent on each other for years, enabling the worst parts of each other.

Englewood Pony

you can not like Simon but thats def not a racial thing. They’re playing off the phrase “Null & Void”, which goes with the whole apex motif.

SauceyRed

Those cockroach creatures HAVE A NAME???

Englewood Pony

yep simon yells it out when hes arguing with Samantha in the cabin

Megan

Unfortunately your questions don't get answered in the next season. They were intended for the season 5 movie if ever but was cancelled too soon. Season 4 is actually almost entirely disconnected from the past seasons being a prequel of sorts that has only minimal overlap with Amelia's story.

Aleph Sharp

Something important to keep in mind is the creators intended for there to be 8-10 seasons, and the show got canceled at season 4. They left a LOT of questions, but they have said they are opening to continuing if the show gets picked up again
