Symbolic Remnant

The Great Trial of Initiation is upon us, brothers and sisters!

Octavia

Just a little family tree based on what you've seen. Ruby and yang are sisters who share a father whose name you haven't heard yet. Ruby's mom Summer rose is dead. Raven is Yang's mom and Qrow's twin. Raven left shortly after Yang was born. Their dad married Summer and had Ruby. Yang has been looking for Raven since she learned about her.

Sam Macias

[MOD] Hey everyone! Remember to keep the comments free of any spoilers of future episodes for Elijah. Also, make sure we’re keeping the comments cool & comfortable for everyone here. Enjoy the reaction y’all!!!

Crawlspace

Now would be a good time to go back and rewatch Burning the Candle, to get a reminder of some character backstory.

Dreanner95

Poor Jaune basically told Pyrrha to not let her feelings for him stop her from fulfilling her destiny, aka become a Maiden at the cost of who she it.

BrightHeart

With how invested Elijah is in RWBY right now. I feel setting time for a binge session is very much worth it.

BrightHeart

Nice to see Mosco getting a little taste of RWBY even if its just a small little bit of Ren's apron and what the back of pyrrha looks like. At least getting a taste of what the animation looks like.

Casey Conover

The welcoming ceremony is almost over hehehe

Rachel Mae

You were scared for these episodes you’re scared for the next episodes….. yeaaaa volume 3 will do that to you. The thing about it that always sticks with me is that despite how many times I’ve rewatched rwby volume 3 just has this very tangible sense of dread that builds up bit by bit. First it’s the reveal that Cinder is in control of the entire tournament match ups then the maiden stuff, Yang being set up, and now the reveal of just how long Cinder has been planning this. This whole volume is very much just the “haha I’m in danger” meme lol

Verdant Crown

And so it begins. Welcome to RWBY!

Leon Lesser

Welp, time to kick things into gear

Donovan "Ravenhull"

Amber’s voice, what little there was, was Laura ‘Vex’ Bailey. Grog’s VA will get a cameo before this volume ends.

LikeCat

I'm sorry. WHAT?... Who does Travis voice?

Flufux

So now we know why Emerald, Mercury, Adam and Roman are working for Cinder. The only one this episode doesn't explain is Neo. Since the show doesn't really explain it, let's just say that she and Roman Torchwick are a package deal. The book 'Roman Holiday', which takes place before volume 1, details both Roman and Neo's backstories and how they met if you're curious. Oh, and Adam's last name 'Taurus' means 'bull'...since he's a bull faunus, having a pair of short bull horns on his head that kinda blend into his hair.

BrightHeart

@LikeCat a very minor role, Atlas Ship Captain

Globe Blotter

this right here i where i was hooked to rwby

jessie H

We need a compilation of Elijah simping over Cinder, and apologizing to Mosco for said simping

BrightHeart

oh, if Elijah continues releasing weekly on fridays the V3 finale will be on.. Valentines day.

EDHPlayer

Wait seriously? I gotta hit the wiki because ten years and I never knew that kinda sting lol

The Laughing Man

These next 4 episodes will officially solidify you into the RWBY community, kind of like a rite of passage. Can't wait till next week, I too wish you can binge react to this 😁

RetroBeastto

Really cool how you caught on to Emeralds semblance right away. Most people do not notice it until much later in the series. Loved your reaction as always keep up the good work. Also OMG! I’m stressed cuz of the next few episodes. As a big RWBY fan I just know what these next episodes do to others

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Welp, let Cupid's arrow open our hearts to fiery passion upon that day remembered by all the FNDM!

Vex Valor

I love Ren's apron and you can buy it. Fans have made it real XD Have tissues prepared.

Sere

Yup, he's the ship captain who gets like one line later on this volume. The DBZ Abridged cast also comes up in future volumes. Kaiser is in V4 while Lani is in V5

Rachel Mae

Also this ep really emphasizes what a greedy coward Adam is. He first turns down Cinder bc he has all his men behind him but as soon as she shows her strength he goes along with her plot. And I don’t want to hear that she backed him into a corner bc we see our heroes stand up to Cinder and the villains over and over no matter what the odds are. Not only that but the WF had just pulled off a successful train heist (minus Blake cutting off the part of the train with the crew members and leaving) he had a ton of freshly stolen SDC dust but Cinder’s offer of more dust and lien was enough for him to ally with her. Hate that guy he’s just a spiteful little coward lol

demonic-myst

Cinders semblence is overburn it heats things up

LikeCat

It certainly heats things up for Elijah.🤣

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

Isn't this the kind of conversation we should be having AFTER Elijah has seen that episode?

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

"She wanted me to tell you that she saved you once, but you shouldn't expect that kindness again." "Kindness" seems like an odd choice of words for Raven to use here...except... what is a group of ravens called again? Oh, and speaking of corvid-related terminology, it's worth noting that in some German-speaking countries, a woman who neglects or abandons her children is sometimes called a "raven mother"

Butterfly Warrior

Elijah, just a warning. Next couple of reactions to RWBY, bring tissues and a stuffed animal

Bryan Forquer

Stay strong Elijah, we'll make it through this together!! The RWBY fans have got your back! I love how protective you are about Yang, and you were right when you said Yang seems to value Blake's opinion pretty highly. Besides being Yang's partner and teammate, she is also Yang's best friend. So seeing Blake's hesitation to trust yang was absolutely heartbreaking for Yang. I absolutely can't wait for the next RWBY reaction!! ❤️🤍🖤💛

Bryan Forquer

There's a YouTube video of all the times Elijah was simping over Kait and Vi from Arcane. So I'm sure someone will be able to do a video for Cinder.

jessie H

I’ve seen that one. It never fails to make me smile

Rupert Anderson Jr

Try not to simp for Cinder Challenge. Level: Impossible.

Xylia

I actually wouldn’t mind you binging if you had the time to do it in your schedule tbh. The episodes are going to get longer with each volume and it may make more sense to watch them in longer sets soon. Hope you continue to enjoy either way

pneuma163

A thing I just noticed: assuming Elijah keeps up her schedule for this volume, she'll be watching the volume 3 finale almost exactly 9 years after it first aired on February 13, 2016

Kiesen

No matter how many times I watch it, I will never not be amazed by the pacing of Volume 3. SO much lines up and falls into place one after the other in such a satisfying and horrifying way. You're picking up on ALL of it and it's making these reactions so enjoyable. Also loving that the first time Yang ever cries in the series is over Blake. She has a lot of "firsts" with Blake, to put it lightly. And tbh I'd love if you recorded yourself binging the series. The episodes get longer and encompass a lot more.

Kriscerosaurus

God that guitar hit when Mercury steps out STILL gives me chills.

Nektis Noir

Close. You're on the description but the name of her semblance is actually Scorching Caress as stated in the The World Of RWBY book.

ActualBampot

2:59 is everyone in the Cinder Simps discord. I think you'd fit right in over there when you're all caught up :D

Ryanne

*looks at cinder backstory* yeah Elijah isn’t ready for a cinder episode

Caelynn

The last 6 episodes of Volume 3 are some of the most "WTF?!" moments in the series. Anyone else agree?

SK- Eferthigra

you can split the episodes but please do binge it its not just the next two that are going to be hard you might need therapy after season three like you thought yang was bad well unfortunately you though wrong you haven't seen just how bad it can get

pneuma163

Travis is credited as "Atlas Ship Captain." He appears near the end of the next episode PvP

Eddie Murphy

First, may I say you and Mosco are ADORABLE! I <3 you both so much. Second, I agree with all of the others who have said you should watch the final 4 episodes together; even if you need to split them up into 2 separate releases you REALLY should watch those 4 episodes together. Love love LOVE your RWBY reactions!

Jittercritter

Notice how Blake asks Yang to promise that she regrets what happened, yet Yang instead looks her in the eyes and very seriously states that she SAW Mercury attack her, and sounds almost more bitter than remorseful when she adds “so I attacked back.” I always found it interesting that Yang didn’t do what Blake asked her to, yet Blake still accepted it (and actually seemed relieved, like you can really see her eyebrows raise. Facial animation isn’t something that this art style always conveys well, so you KNOW that was done on purpose). But now I think I get what’s going on. I think that was a test to see if Yang would be honest. As she just explained, Blake experienced Adam repeat the same ‘mistakes’ multiple times, yet always assure her it was an accident or self defense or whatever afterwards. Blake was repeatedly lied to about Adam’s violence, and the fact that Yang didn’t just tell Blake what she wanted to hear—but instead the cold, honest truth—is exactly what made Blake certain she was being sincere. That’s what that brief moment of relief, and even the smile was about. To Blake that little moment was absolute confirmation that Yang and Adam have starkly different values despite having similarly hotheaded temperaments on the surface. Underrated detail for sure.

Jittercritter

The music at the end of “Destiny” goes crazy every time

pneuma163

Another thought related to the "watch the next four in one sitting" suggestion: there's other content to keep *you* connected to RWBY if you take a week off of recording Patreon/Youtube releases even if you don't react to it. I highly recommend that you watch the Volume 4 Character Short (Ruby's, and only hers since the others come later) before starting Volume 4. There's also the World of Remnant series that describes more of the lore of, well, the world of Remnant which came out over the course of volumes 2, 3, and 4 (so mind the release dates).

Evil Queen

Like I know Elijah has a schedule but damn I cannot wait for the next two episodes for a reaction! Also why did this one make me tear up again with this season?

James Long

If any of the mods or Elijah see this, the Ruby Character Short and Only the Ruby Character Short is in between Volumes 3 and 4. I think you can fit it in with Chapters 1 and 2 of Volume 4.

Beowolf Chow

Ahhh, that lovely tension slowly ratcheting up these past few episodes. It's wonderfully done. Also, the sound design of the Semblance's activating, specifically Emerald's and Pyrrha's very distinct sound effects make going back and listening to earlier fights worthwhile. Like the Polarity sound effect is all the way back when Pyrrha pins Jaune to the wall in the locker room the first time, and again in episode 8 as they jump over the Deathstalker and she grabs her spear out of it's eye. Just subtle cues, well laid in advance, make this whole first arc so enjoyable.

Beowolf Chow

All hail the Mods! Noble guardians of pure reactions! May their eyes be keen, and their banhammer swift, in pursuit of their holy duty!

Cinder's Apologist

*cackles maniacally* oh she is not going to survive the remainder of this volume >:3 always love the Cinder simping on display. and going to bat for Yang especially right now. and as usual, being perceptive enough to see where certain plot beats are heading.

Cinder's Apologist

it took me so long to realize that you could hear Pyrrha's Polarity being activated during the Deathstalker fight, and it kills me that I didn't notice it sooner. but it really is a good example of all the little details in the show that you may not notice right away, but upon rewatching you do and you realize just how much was being laid out even in the earliest days.

RenaissanceM

The scene between Pyrrha and Jean will never fail to break my heart…😭😭😭 After all the nonsense and drama they had to go through to finally get to this point. The point where they’re finally able to express how they feel for one another… It’s just like you noted, for once Jean does everything right, and gives her the encouragement she so rightly deserves….he just doesn’t realize what he’s telling her to do is potentially give herself up…to give up her team, and her friends……to give up him… You can practically see the moment her heart shatters, and it’s devastating…… Especially since Pyrrha is undoubtedly the best of all of them…she’s probably thinking that even if she does say no, Ozpin and the others will just choose another girl to give her life up…Pyrrha will always be the one to lay down on the wire and let the others crawl over her as long as it means they’re safe……

Wildgameseeker1

Welcome to the RWBY Fandom where you wait till next time for the biggest heartbreaks in the series

ConnorH265

After this volume take a break and watch rwby chibi it a good way to heal between v3 an v4

Arashi

And after the expected episode of a Cinder-induced failure of Elijah, we get back to the plot. Emerald didn't steal Ruby's weapon, Ruby didn't have it with her to begin with. But things... progress... rapidly from here. You might want to binge the last four at once.

RiekerVerse

I HAVE THE APRON ON MY REDBUBBLE!!!! its like the only thing in my store that ever sells hahaha

Mare

With all that is happening in this volume, I can finally share this interview with RWBY's creator, Monty Oum, since this interview was done while Volume 2 was originally airing so there's ---ABSOLUTELY NO SPOILERS HERE--- It's a great piece on Monty's admittance of LGBTQ representation in his RWBY series. Also just note that Monty had once proclaimed that his show is long form story telling so basically the entire narrative is a slow burn of information and character development. And with that said, here's that clip of Monty's interview. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykADdGwqwpU&t=2969s The anniversary of his death was February 1st, so a lot of us are taking the time to remember him and his wonderful creation but to also acknowledge how amazingly compassionate and inclusive he was.

LikeCat

Oh... God. I first though it was just "her reacting to it on the day of the first airing"... We all know what happened that day.

Mochi

Upvote. I really hope you'll consider watching RWBY Chibi once V3 is over, even if it's just for yourself and not to react to it. I think you would really enjoy it since it leans into the humor and silliness of RWBY. And in a way, it actually kinda fleshes the characters out even better than the main show. Because it really highlights their character traits and a lot of the running jokes surrounding them.

BGTitan

Ep 7: So you can usually tell when Em is using her semblance of delusions when you hear the sound cue like at 10:26. Emerald is also the reason why Qrow couldn’t make out their faces. Just a note for future reference, Maidens aren’t tied to a specific element. They can control all elements. The powers also aren’t gone if the person runs out of aura, unlike a semblance. No aura, no semblance. Ep 8: AKA Yang and Pyrrha having a very bad time. Thank god for Nora and Velvet because this episode needed some levity. Poor Jaune… he said the right things at the wrong time. He doesn’t have any context, but to Pyrrha all she hears is “do anything to become the Huntress you want to be even if it means sacrificing her ties to him and her friends.”

Luke Teasdale

ah fk Elijah... You may need to borrow hamish for what is about to happen

Suplee215

I hate how good Cinder's olan is. Yes, its a world where magic and sememblences exist but the power system is so random it's hard to trust any. And they dont know who they are fighting fully. While its possible theres a sememblence going on, I think a hallucination response triggered by being over worked or trauma is a much more common thing. The trick also only need to last for a few hours and even when the truth is revealed how much of the public will believe it?
