Yes! So glad you convinced Mosco! Now I have a reason to rewatch the whole show yet again! (not that I needed one, lol) Also, good news! Viz Media, who bought the show last year, finally made the volumes available on digital again (though in the form of movies sorta rather than episodes, at least on amazon, so not sure if that'll actually help you), and they started preorders for the blu-rays of the volumes, so hopefully there's a chance we'll be getting news about volume 10 at some point this year! Super excited!

BrightHeart

The Grimm is called The Nuckelavee and comes from Scottish or more specifically Orcadian (Orkney Isles) folklore.

Kisuke01

I still don't fully understand that we already had Blu-rays are they just making separate Volume Blu-rays now?

OnthatBanyan

Not so average girlfriend is gonna watch rwby now? Peak

defy4bees

Whether it was true or not, the voice actor for Qrow did get changed to Jason Liebrecht in ep1 of Vol 7.

Octavia

If there's any music from the show to make a reaction to, the songs from this volume are it. Specifically Bmblb and armed and ready. Or at the very least I hope she checks those two out for good yang and Blake songs

BGTitan

Yeah, unfortunately it's probably safer that you don't read the comments and just have your mods relay any interesting info. Which is such a bummer because there are so many fun facts (non-spoilery) that we'd just love to share. I don't know what it is about RWBY in particular, if it's just a bunch of jerks who don't care, if it's just how excited people get or what but this community in general is pretty bad about spoilery comments. ANYWAY The Nuckelvee is definitely a fun Grimm. Drawing from Scottish mythos and then animated so twitchy. Crwby are so good at doing horror when they do decide to dip their toes into it. To explain, and hopefully the mods let you know, is that Ren's semblance allows him to suppress or mute the emotions that draw in the Grimm. So negative emotions. We saw it last episode where the Nevermore on the house dipped because it lost track of the kids under the house when Ren did it to both him and Nora. He basically makes himself and others invisible to the Grimm and that's so dope. Hard to see but both Ren and Nora lost their aura when they got tossed by the Grimm. Also, yeah I've always thought that joke about the skirt was weirdly out of place. Boop playing again when Renora are on the airship! Someone sedate me they're so precious! Something I think you might of missed is that Yang at the crossroads was her either deciding to go to Ruby or her deciding to go find Raven (Bandits), something she's been trying to do for most of her life. Tai asked her which one she was going after last time we saw them and we never got an answer. Still don't have an answer. This comment is already ungodly long, however, I wanted to touch on my thoughts on V4 overall. It's definitely still my least favorite. The pacing just drives me nuts, though I understand it's because they had like six different storylines to keep track of. The timeline is a little wonky given that each character is on their own time frame after the Fall of Beacon. And there's just some writing with some characters that doesn't quite jive with me personally. But there are certainly some highlights. Meeting Raven officially, getting Renora backstory, the new Grimm, etc. At least I can safely say it's only up from here, in my opinion. See you for the shorts!

Rachel Mae

They’re just reprints. The old blurays are already super hard to get at a price that isn’t jacked up so they’re making more and now they have the Viz name slapped on the box bc if Viz is gonna fund future volumes they need the money to do it. They’ve got some small extras the original blurays didn’t have either like including the Japanese dub and some kind of exclusive art card apparently

Dani

Yessss I'm so excited for Mosco's reactions !

BrightHeart

Just a quick correction its not from Norse Mythos but from Orkney Islands (Orcadian) (Scottish) folklore.

Rachel Mae

Hell yea I’ll keep an eye out for mosco’s reaction. I’ll def be subscribing to her patreon if she starts watching rwby! 🎶”I don’t know where we should go/just feeling farther from our goal/I don’t know what path we will be shown/but I know that when I’m with you Im at home/yes I know that when I’m with you I’m at home”🎶 sobbing crying throwing up etc the found family of it all means so much to me 😭 *slaps rwby* you can fit so much love into this tiny web series RWBY v1 and v2 really lure you into this false sense of security that it’s just this silly goofy kinda campy relatively low stakes show about 4 girls and their friends with dope weapons who are gonna fight some monsters and kick the asses of some villains while going to monster fighting school. There’s some hints here and there that something darker is lurking in the shadows but it lets you get to know and care for these characters before they face world ending stakes. It emphasizes repeatedly that they’re just kids! Teenagers who shouldn’t be forced to fight in a war. And it’s super effective bc then V3 hits you with the… everything…. And every volume after that you learn that not only will this show rip your heart out with what it puts your favs through it’ll then also poke the wound left behind with the absolute sincerity written into scenes where our protags are dealing with the grief and loss they’ve experienced as well as all the love they all have for the people and things they haven’t lost yet

LikeCat

On that note: Volume 5 is one of my favorites the writing in some places is a little meh I admit - mainly there is a storyline where we are mainly in ONE PLACE the whole time , BUT this Vol. has some of my all time favorite characters/ character interactions in it, so that is big plus in my book... But I can see why people don't like it as much as later ones.

LikeCat

Case and point in the grieve dipartment... The ending of Volume 3/ Pyrrah's death... It happened, what 8 YEARS ago and it STILL breaks my heart. And some... Stuff (both good and bad)... Happened since then.

Verdant Crown

I really hope that we get to see her reaction to BMBLB at some point, even if it's just on patreon. It would be a shame if someone that is experiencing RWBY for the first time missed out on that song.

James Long

This is a spoiler, please delete.

Janice Marie Audio

Seeing Elijah being so excited to see Oscar meeting Qrow and ask for “his cane” back brings joy to my soul

BGTitan

My bad, I fixed it. For some reason Norse was in my head.

James Long

Don’t forget, the Weiss, Blake, and Yang character shorts are next before episode 1 on volume 5.

Ben Disney

Glad you've finished Volume 4! Just a heads up: Volume 5 is...a bit rough, quality-wise. I believe there was some behind-the-scenes issues that meant that they had a drastically lower budget and it unfortunately it REALLY shows. There's still some good stuff, but it can take some patience to get there. In my experience, it's a little like the first season of The Office or Brooklyn Nine-Nine: You kinda need to power through it in order to get to the REALLY good stuff on the other side.

Kriscerosaurus

It’s also a good way for them to gauge ongoing interest hint hint cough cough.

L Frances

Hah, I just knew she'd forget that the final end credits of the season are crazy long. That's always a factor. I would recommend bunching up the V5 shorts with episode 1, then do episode 2 solo (also kinda long), and then do the rest of volume 5 in pairs of two, but you do what you gotta!

jessie H

Thoughts on who Mosco’s favorite will be?

Moonas

Ren Semblance mask negative emotions so Grimm can't sense them. And talking about Pyrrha - in V4 after her death u can see all team JNPR have something red in outfit in her memory. Also Nora had heart on her top but now after Pyrrha death the heart is broken

LikeCat

His ,,Shut up, I'm getting there" - I love when we are remainded that the only person who can hear Oz is Oscar.

Mare

That's how Viz Media (and most North American localization studios) usually release their newly acquired titles. They start out with individual volumes and then when everything is released, they start with collector box editions or thin packs. These new volumes not only have the original English audio but the Japanese audio/ with Subtitles as well.

Liam Gradwell

Elijah has now passed Volume 4 Yay! But also, Mosco’s gonna try RWBY out. I cannot begin to tell you how exited I am of that. This collab is gonna be so cute. 🥰🌈❤️🌹

Liam Gradwell

Oh definitely Yang because… I mean it’s obvious, right?! 🤣😍💛🌈

Disrespktd

How is that a spoiler? Do u know what a spoiler is?

Kiesen

It sucks that you won't really be interacting with the comments anymore, but I understand. I think we can at least all agree we want you to have a good time with RWBY. Though I'm still gonna yap because you deserve the enthusiasm and it's cool reading/hearing other people's perspectives and the details they noticed/know. Jumping ahead to the end credits for a moment because these two musical bits are important: - Listen to the credits song because: I'M RACING TO HER SIDE. THERE'S NOTHING THAT I WON'T DO FOR HERRRRRRRRR - You've finished Volume 4 now, so you should really listen to Volume 4's track 8: https://rwby.fandom.com/wiki/RWBY:_Volume_4_Soundtrack ------ Back to this list in chronological order: - The Nuckelavee is technically two grimm merged rather than one. If you watch closely, you can see that only one half at a time can do anything elaborate. Though it's never explained how they fused. - The weird, twitchy movements it has also weren't originally written in, but the idea of an animator who was playing around with their shots. One of the directors/writers (Kerry Shawcross) saw it and wanted it for all of the shots. - When the air ship lands, you can hear the leitmotif of the volume's opening theme. - The series really loves the letter Ruby writes. You can find part of it in the Arrowfell game manual actually. - I LOVE THE "New Friends!" PHOTO SO MUCH. I spent a bit too much money on the trading cards so I could get a physical copy of it. - There's an official comic that takes place after V3 and during V4 but before V5 if you want to check it out, but it's not required. https://rwby.fandom.com/wiki/RWBY_(comic)

Zero Blazer Gaming

That horse rider grim is one of the scariest grim in the show, but there are at lest a few more that are far scarer

Rachel Mae

More about the comic: 1. It’s considered canon though it has a few minor changes that were intended to make the comic more accessible/easier to understand if someone who didn’t watch v1-v3 happened to read it. 2. it does reveal info we don’t get until v5 ep1 so if Elijah is interested then it would be best read after watching ep1. Specifically where Yang is going, to Ruby or to Raven. Also it shows Adam without his mask before the show ever does. Personally I think that second part makes the moment we see him without the mask in show stronger but some might consider that a spoiler as well. 3. We stan Marguerite Bennett (the comic’s writer) lol

LikeCat

He is my (and many other's) adoptive son for a reason. 😊

I miss him so much. Bring him back to me #GREENLIGHTVOLUME10

SauceyRed

I've pretty much stopped caring about cancellations and allegations. Like, yes, I care if some person turns/turned out to have done bad things, but until it's settled in a court of law or the person officially admits it themselves, I'm not gonna spend more than like 3 minutes looking it up, unless it's someone I personally directly follow and like or they're directly involved in something I follow and like. I still internally judge the situation based on what I know, so I might avoid someone due to some allegations, but I'm not assuming they're true, nor that they're untrue, I just avoid the situation until it's resolved. When it comes to some things, I do get curious and look into things more, but not often.

Jessica Smith

Seasons 4 and 5 get a bad wrap as being 'slow', but it's them coming back together and healing and coming back stronger. It had to slow down. So more character moments and less fights, but I like the characters. This season, for example, Yang learned to stop taking hits and fight smarter--this carries through in subtle ways and I love it.

ArcticBanana

Hopefully Mosco decides to watch the show. If I recall, she likes Bleach, and the general premise is pretty much the same (just replace Shinigami and Hollows with Huntsmen and Grimm). I hope she sticks with it at least this far because the Nuckelavee is a Scottish creature (specifically Orcadian), and I know she likes when Scottish folklore gets represented in media.

Hi-Viz

I will hope that Elijah is aware of the character shorts before V5

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

Qrow calling Oscar "Pipsqueak" in the stinger is a deliberate reference to the voice actors' Fullmetal Alchemist days, where it was kind of a running gag. Also, the end credits song is a Yang song and it's an absolute banger; you should absolutely download it. (To give you a taste of what you're in for, it's called "Armed and Ready" :-P )

pneuma163

I am so excited for Elijah's reactions to volume 5. And, yeah, Ruby's letter always makes me cry - I do wish that scene had shown off that she's left-handed, but I can just let it be a case of handedness being complicated even though it was probably just an animation direction error. It's great that Elijah is understanding so much of the emphasis on character growth and each character's stories - RWBY is great at giving that little bit of extra time to characters, which, like Elijah said, often gets ignored by other shows. Glad to hear we have the 3 character shorts coming up next.

pneuma163

This can be understood as a spoiler because it says that Qrow appears as a character in volume 7. For example at this point Elijah knows that Qrow survived volume 4 but she has no idea how significant of a character he will be in volume 5, let alone any other volume.

Hollyhock

Not being able to read the comments is a shame but probably for the best. I've loved my many years in this fandom because rwby fans are incredibly passionate, but that also leads to over-excited fans not really knowing when to calm down 😅 I assure you though that we'll still be here and just as excited to talk when you're done!

Hollyhock

Also, while you may not read this, i loved that you pointed out how volume 4 really took its time to show how and why they all end up in Mistral. Some dislike volume 4 for it's slower pacing, but personally i LOVE it for showing how different people deal with trauma in different ways. A whole season's worth of fallout does justice to how shocking the fall of Beacon was to the characters, AND to the audience.

Hollyhock

You can always count on Oz to get a sassy one-liner in, hahaa

Kiesen

@Rachel Mae God do we stan Marguerite Bennett. Does she know how much fanart and fanfiction has spawned from that comic alone? I hope she does. Tbh I think just about everything the comic includes makes later reveals more impactful, especially Blake and Weiss' sections. I read it well after finishing V9 and it's made every rewatch since even better.

ActualBampot

Nah. Don't apologize. Don't try to cover your ass, there's nothing to cover. People in this fandom will apologize for people like Vic and his incorrigible behaviour, and they will die on that grave. This fandom is the pits. Anyway, the outro speeches and the words used with shots that involve Cinder are always so particularly worded.

Kyle Hennett

Something that is easy to miss if you’re not looking for it: During the fight, Ren experiences Anger for the first time. This is important to his character and semblance. His semblance is able to mask emotions, essentially become invisible to Grimm. But throughout the fight his anger grows more and more and he forgets his role in the group, Attacking fast and stealthy.

YNB

Home is my favorite track in all of the RWBY music library.

Rachel Mae

She mentions in the video that she’ll be watching those next!

Bryan Forquer

I'm sorry that some people ruined the comments section for you Elijah, and sorry that some people can't keep their mouths shut and have to spoil everything! Now that that's over, I thought this was a pretty decent finale. The Knucklavee Grimm is still my favorite design of Grimm. I can't to see you start volume 5, personally I think the character shorts aren't really necessary. You're not missing much if you decide to skip them. I really hope Mosco does watch RWBY, I will fully subscribe to her patreon if she does! ❤️🤍🖤💛

Symbolic Remnant

Sorry the comments went sideways. I do think that comments on a patreon VOD of RWBY are an altogether worthless place for third parties to litigate what will remain legally unanswered questions based primarily on the reporting of 6 year old drama channel videos by people who, on both sides of those covering it, have since beclowned themselves with enough frequency or severity to cast their analyses of any situation into doubt. If my initial warning of the controversy contributed to more abrasive opposition in later comments, I am sorry for that.

Mare

Yup! I agree. I think some of it had to do with a lot of gaps inbetween RT releasing the episodes which at times did take long so watching it as a weekly series. Volume 5, took place indoors most of the time, and I remember some viewers getting antsy about it, to the point where CRWBY themselves poked fun of it in episode 1 of Volume 6 during the flashback LOL. Watching the series as a binge really does help a lot though. I personally never had a problem with the V4-5 pacing but it definitely was a better watch for me when I treated it like one long movie.

Symbolic Remnant

Honestly, I find that a lot of fresher reactors tend to disagree with the early FNDM consensus of 5 being "rough." At most they agree there's some pacing and combat choreography issues in the fights. , but a lot of them still like it overall.

Symbolic Remnant

Also, I feel like Renora is the "Free Space" ship for virtually everyone. Of course, the unfortunate effect of that is that it gets tiny amounts of independent fan content for itself and they wind up as barely present background in 98% per cent of things they're tagged in. But still, almost everyone technically ships it, in a way.

Arashi

Funny little visual/editing error. When Ren sees little Nora and then blinks to big(ger) Nora, she has Magnihild strapped to her back in grenade launcher form, but when they crawl out from the floor space, she picks up it up off the ground outside the crawlspace in full hammer mode. This episode really is what solidified Renora as official for me (and others). Ren avenged his family, home and history. Now he can close the past and look to the future. Mistral does look a lot like Ba Sing Sae, in part because they use Asian-influenced architecture. The background song when RNJR is in the house is one of my favorite for this volume, Home. It's super slow but so sweet, never fails to make me start to cry a bit. I'm not 100% positive, but I'm pretty sure the New friends photo was a bit of fanart. "Same boat that Blake was on not too long ago!" Ah... time scale for this and next volume are.... deceptive. Blake's story was about three or four weeks /before/ Ruby's, which was a week or so before Yang's which was roughly the same time as Weiss' while Oscar sort snuck into Mistral some days after Ruby.

RiekerVerse

"THATS HOW THEY END IT?" YES. YES IT IS AND WE HAD TO WAIT A Y E A R. you probably fully understand how fortunate you are that you don't have to wait- hell at the rate you're going theres a good chance we're at least have a release date for volume 10 by the time you're done- but everything else is here for you to enjoy!!! also so looking forwards to a mosco rwby colab!!!!!! I have wanted her to watch it for YEARS- pretty sure one of the first comments i ever made on her channel was on a community post asking for suggestions where i recommended both RWBY and Witch From Mercury (still absoltely delulu and hoping one of you two will watch WFM- its GOT YURI but i know anime can be hard to react to on YT)

Jittercritter

I really appreciate the Nuckleave’s problem solving skills with the helicopter move displaying the difference between common Grimm and experienced/older Grimm, kind of like how the gorilla Grimm from the Ruby short threw other Grimm at her. It kinda makes you wonder how smart a Grimm could get if it lived long enough! Ruby’s note to Yang always fascinated me, because while it’s ADDRESSED to both Yang and Tai, the wording is very clearly talking TO Yang. People talk a lot about Yang’s angst from being brought up with no mother and a father who was ‘shut down,’ but I feel like people never mention Ruby. I just find it very interesting that she doesn’t have anything to say to him but has a whole letter talking directly to Yang, it’s almost like she added Tai into the address out of courtesy/as an afterthought.

Cinder's Apologist

oooh definitely a detail I hadn't considered... yes, his anger showing is a big difference from how he was before, but I never factored in that it really cut down on his fighting style so clearly

Cinder's Apologist

the Nuckelavee remains one of the most unique and horrifying grimm of the show, so your reaction is totally warranted XD Renora is truly a wholesome pair. as others have no doubt said, it is basically the safe ship option in RWBY: how can anyone hate them? you just want good things for them. I'm so so happy you took the time to notice 'Home'; it remains one of my favorites which is challenging because there are so many good songs in this show. but 'Home' always hits right in the feels, and I hope you love the full version as well as check out all the other songs. they really add some great characterization in ways the show can't fit onto the screen!

Marisa Maribel

You said it perfectly, Elijah had nothing to apologize for, she spoke the truth and his stans yelled about it with the same nonsense they always use while they harass anyone who doesn’t believe he’s a perfectly innocent man. Which is what they did to Elijah, it’s what they always do, they even did this to lawyers and judges who didn’t buy their willful ignorance. So yeah, they don’t deserve Elijah apologizing for what she said, because she didn’t say or do anything wrong.
