Scorpia sounding like a Jersey woman who smokes 12 packs a day is sending me.

I miss the original He-Man and She-Ra, I still prefer them over the new versions any day

Yeah, the thing with the 80s versions were...well, a couple of things, first, yeah, idealized body types were very front and center for pretty much everything in the 80s. Flawless womens bodies and muscular mens bodies with no variation. It did also help with toys because childrens television had been deregulated in the late 70s which is why almost every single cartoon in the 80s only existed to be 30 minute toy commercials. The second the toys stopping selling, the cartoon stopped running. Also, He-man, particularly, was made on a shoestring budget and the production company, Filmation, saved money by re-using character models and camera angles over...and over...and over...and over...and over again. Watch enough episodes of either show and you'll realize at least half of the shots are the same camera angle and the same animation, just with different characters. Kind of like what Disney did with Robin Hood and The Aristocats. I was seven or eight when these came out and I guess to a kid like me, they seemed like peak cinema, but in hindsight, the acting work is pretty cringe. Even so, they'll always hold a special place in my heart, especially since one of my first role models that I try to aspire to even to this day, came from He-man. I've been pretty happy with all the post-year 2000 reboots that have come since. Now that they can deliver story and messages without the need to sell toys, they've been able to do wonderful things and I hope these worlds get a chance to continue to grow in the future.

The Akimbo Knight

Yall are brave for watching this. Things were definitely Interesting with these characters back then

80s Catra's voice was...well, it was something alright (fun fact: Adora and Catra have the same voice actress in that version). By the way, did you catch how absurdly deep Swift Wind's voice was?

I'll be honest, this makes the og She-Ra look much better than it actually was. In the new version, that little flying owl/koala thing showed up once as one of Glimmer's stuffed animals.

I love these collabs. It's always fun watching your shared brain cell ping pong between the two of you. ...and then go flying off into space when Catra shows up. ---- RWBY trailers - Mosco on the left. "Please let me clean your desk!" She-Ra OOC - Mosco on the right. "Stay away from my desk!" No, we're *never* going to let that go.

BrightHeart

Was curious so was looking things up and apparently in the 80s version, She-Ra and Sea Hawk are Husband & Wife.

Two things, first, that was amazing, like I tried to watch the old She-Ra but couldn't get into it because I watched the reboot first and fell in love with it. But the OG one does have some pretty funny moments, as highlighted in this video. Second, I love when you two do collabs together. Just the way you interact with each other makes me laugh and smile. Like you and Mosco are relationship goals in my eyes. I aspire to have a relationship like yours some day.

"Cringe and random" and "I feel like we're on something": After Netflix She-Ra, and watch of the 80s show will evoke exactly those feelings, no matter how much of it you watch.

og.monstr

Don't know about anybody else, but I still kinda prefer the Netflix show. Just an itty bitty wee lil' bitsy.

I fucking loved how wild the 80s cartoon was, even tho I was more of a he-man girlie as a kid. and only ever got to watch this one through youtube vids. But a few things from the OG She-Ra cartoon that I think you'd find interesting: Hordak was Adora's adoptive/foster father instead of Shadow Weaver. Though he did have SW put a spell on Adora to make sure she followed Hordaks commands without question. Until He-Man broke the spell freeing her. Adora and SeaHawk were a couple, like got married and everything, (Catra also had a thing for SeaHawk. I think there were a few episodes where the two girls fought over him) Catra was also into Bow. honestly, the girls did not have the same kind of history and relationship in the 80s as they did in the remake. Still a fun dynamic. Catra had a mix of magic and tech going for her. Her mask gave her the power to transform into a big panther, it also let her teleport. She was also able to create a machine that merged Shadow Weaver's magic to do dimension hopping. Though catfolk (Magicats) were a race in the OG she-ra, Catra was not one of them, she was human with a cat motiff. Catra ALSO had both a pink lion named Clawdeen and a pegasus named Storm. Melendy Britt was the voice for Adora, Catra, Castaspella, and Mermista. Along with a few other side characters. Entrapta was full on baddie if I remember right, was Catras side kick.

I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR SO LONG FOR THIS! YAY! 😆😆

Say what you will about the animation quality of Filmation's output, it was a studio with a certain vision and dedication and a place for queer creators to express themselves under circumstances where a lot of them still couldn't be out otherwise. I'd say it really did lay some groundwork to the kinds of animation we know and love today.

The old She-ra, my beloved. With the little budget Filmation had for cartoons and having to deliver an episode so often, they made miracles. When I was little, I loved their series, specially He-man, She-Ra and Ghostbusters (I loved them more than the ones based on the movie... yeah, yeah, I said it!). Also, the budget made them very creative, like for example having to deliver a portal effect and doesn't having the budget and one of the women working on the cartoon used lipstick to produce the effect. I also had the toys and the minicomics coming with them were... special, to say the least. Frosta had a thing for Adora, they hinted multiple times some jealousy/ interest for Catra towards She-ra in one where Catra steals the heart of Bow to call her attention. The cartoons, both, He-man and She-ra, were very progressive for their time but for the restrintions on TV they could make a lot of things more specific but most of their work and the things they hinted were used in the newer series, like 2000 He-man and the new She-ra. Also, the new She-ra managed to do something I thought was impossible: Making Hordak interesting. He was super boring on the old She-ra, his powers were just transforming into objects (mostly a rocket) and he was a pussy, I loved the villains of both cartoons except Hordak. There is also a very interesting thing not much people know about Adora, Skeletor and Shadow Weaver that I love to bits. It was hinted in the old She-ra cartoon but never addressed (like Skeletor's real identity on He-man) but while the 2000 series could address the connection of Skeletor and the royal family of Eternia, the cartoon was cancelled before She-ra could appear. The ended up addressing this connection of Adora, Shadow Weaver and Skeletor on official comics after the cancelation and it's a thing of beauty that was never address again. Pretty sad.

If you want more She-Ra things to react to, I highly recommend watching Swift Wind Adventures. It's a series of 5 shorts on YouTube that are official and came out during the gap between season 2 and 3. They are a series of silly skits and when Swift Wind in the show appears with the joke "Did someone say SWIFT WIND" "No! No one said Swift Wind!" it's referencing these shorts. There is also the Princess Recruitment shorts, but I don't really recommend them as they just use clips from the show and talk over them. Swift Wind Adventures are all original scenes.

The Catra aggression is real! That would be a hell of a thing to explain to your physician. "Yes. I require stitches because my girlfriend got excited when she saw a cartoon catgirl and accidentally struck me."
