So happy to hear this news! Now that stupid Apple fee won’t be added to new Patreon subscriptions anymore! Woo!

Good. That was a bunch of bullshit. Nice to know that people won’t have to pay more for a subscription to something on here.

Am I missing something? I'm an android user and I read this twice to see what it means and I don't get it. Maybe I'm still a bit sleepy from my nap and I can't think straight

Gabi

It's about time!

Apple used to take a 30% cut of any purchase made through an iOS app, including Patreon subscriptions, and enforced this by making everyone use their payment system. Patreon recently started passing on that 30%, so if you signed up on iOS, it would cost extra. (Elijah posted a PSA about this back in August of last year, and it took effect in November I think.) But meanwhile Epic Games (the developer of Fortnite) had sued Apple for monopolistic practices over the forced 30% cut, and now they've won, so Apple can't make people pay it anymore. So now the subscription costs the same regardless of where you sign up.

Oh, I remember that posy she made very vaguely. But good thing that the 30% is gone and we all pay equal amounts

Jason S

This seems to be US only. If you're outside the US, I would suggest you continue to not pay through Apple.

does anyone know what this means for uk viewers? does it effect us at all or do we just need to keep avoiding apple when it comes to patreon?
