White trailer: "Everyone is entitled to their own sorrow, for the heart has no metrics or form of measure. And all of it irreplaceable." Alone Together: “You’re right I don’t know loneliness like you do, I have my own version and I bet Blake has her own version too” I fucking love Weiss man. To answer your timeline question, it's been about 10-11 months since the Fall of Beacon. Volume 3 occured in late Fall of the previous year and Volume 5s been leading up to the night before Havens next fall semester is supposed to start. Blakes story is actually roughly about a month behind of everyone else (Chapter 3 showcased this when Ghira said the full moon before Havens fall semester was "2 months from today" but Ozpin later in that chapter told the crew it was "a month from now"). You can not believe how hard it's been for us all to be silent about Ilias crush on Blake. Ftr, CRWBY (the shows production crew) confirmed that Ilia is in fact a lesbian. Blake never realized Ilias feelings till now because, as Ilia said, she was enamored by Adam back then. Also, without spoiling, I will say I reacted the same as you did to "What if I needed her here for me?". Would you believe there's people out there that actually thought that line sounded platonic? Cause there was. A lot of them. And it was annoying to have them trying to ruin the fun 😅

So we can approximate that it's been a year since the Fall of Beacon on account of the change of seasons (the Fall happened during the summer after the school year was over, Ruby+Co left in winter in V3 but it was spring when we first catch up with them in V4 and we know that the school year starts in approximately a month). Also, Blake having a whole ass bisexual harem is a long standing joke among the FNDM, lol.

Girl is HURT about Blake in a way that is different. Stroking her thumb over Blake’s picture is also craaaaazy. And all in the same episode where Ilia confesses she was carrying a torch for Blake. HAHAHAHA, Yeah, you were out here talking about Yang & Blake like they were Adora & Catra, but Ilia was the Catra all along! Down to Blake unintentionally abandoning her when she left Adam & the White Fang. Love the total 180 you took on her character when you realized that. I'll also say, the line about "the humans who let the hate happen", that to me is so much of what's twisting Ilia. We all know as minority individuals, it's often more painful to see people stand by and allow cruelty than it is to see those exacting that cruelty. It's easy to be angry at the true monsters of our world. It hurts more when we see people simply standing by. That doesn't make aggression against those people fair, but it can twist a person into bitterness and, indeed, spite. I won't say where things go, because I think we've seen this show's capacity for curveballs and sudden, shocking tragedy. I'd never in my wildest imagination have predicted where this story goes. But you're not crazy about the vibes coming off Yang, at least. She is a real hotshot who's not used to feeling soft like that.

Hehehe. Welcome to the docks, we've got a couple ships ready for sail if you would like a seat. I've always been a fan of White Rose (Ruby x Weiss) but by this point, I don't expect it to be a thing. Honestly, I'm half convinced Ruby is some brand of aro/ace by this point. To answer you're question from episode 7, roughly 6-8 months has passed since the the Fall of Beacon to the start of Vol 4, add 2-3 months for 4-5 and you should be close. Note that Blake's story is /not/ synced with the other girls yet, and is happening at least one month prior. We now enter the extended climax of the volume. Lots of information and events and emotions are going to be running at you.

Want to tack on that I love Weiss in this episode and her friendship with Yang. They love to tease each other and they sometimes get on each other’s nerves (welcome to the Xiao-Long-Rose sisterhood, Weiss - they are exhausting but they have huge hearts), but they have such a sturdy almost unspoken trust with each other. Weiss has grown so much.

The time line from the end of volume 3 till the end of volume 5 is about a year. To be honest. The Weiss and Ruby ship makes more sense to me than the Blake and Yang ship. (I want both btw...I want these 4 to always be together ). Probably because they had more alone time together than Yang and Blake. Those 2 were almost never together unless in a big group in my mind. Well that's how I felt until I saw this episode anyway. One thing is for certain though. Blake is a serious chick magnet. The going to get Blake thing is really impossible. They have a big issues with trying to stop the attack on Haven and finding the Spring Maiden, and no one knows where Blake ran off to.

Also this episode (aired Dec 2017) pre-dated She-Ra's first episode by nearly a year - absolutely nothing negative at She-Ra (I adore that show and it is so important to me) just including that tidbit as a nod to RWBY's place in queer animation history. This was also almost three years after the Korra finale and about half a year before the episode of SU that Mosco just watched. What a fantastic reaction - truly all over the place in every good way. From understanding Yang's irritation at Oz to all the details you caught in the Yang and Weiss conversation to the quick switch about Ilia and so much more.

I've been waiting so long for you to react to episode 8. And clearly everyone else was too: - I don't have a ton of nostalgia for the Beacon days but it is incredibly cute seeing them get together like old times. - WEISS YOU'RE NOT CHEERING LOUD ENOUGH - I know Yang's way of coping is to laugh everything off, but her humor around her arm does seem genuine. It's not the end of her pain with it, but it shows just how resilient she is. - Uhhhh. I forget the exact amount of time. I'd say a little less than a year because Yang is 18 in V3 and 19 in the beginning of V6 (which is not that long after the end of V5). - The Shine cameo!!! - Love RWBY's continuously reminding us that so many adults are hiding secrets and cutting out info as it serves them, all while those same adults ask for skepticism, faith, and so on. - This isn't really a spoiler because we don't have an exact answer even in V9, but tbh I don't think Raven quit the fight for selfish reasons. I think she was afraid. Which I guess is selfish, but not in the same way Oz implies. - Breaks up with Cinder but still is paralyzed upon seeing her. - HAPPY PRIDE MONTH - Coffee throwback to V1 - It's taking everything in me to not confirm or deny anything. - "What if I needed her here for me?" - I'm not surprised Weiss is the one to talk Yang down. She doesn't feel like she can talk to Ruby about anything heavy. - "I was always jealous of the way you looked at him. I wanted you to look at me that way." - Blake canonically being the hottest character in the show. Everyone wants her and I 100% get it. - You think they can take down a MILF like Kali?

to be fair, even before you knew she was gay, Ilia had a point. bystander syndrome is a big problem when it comes to the faunus. even the good people in the world seem to pity faunus and not fight beside them. You can see it in vol 1 when team rwby and jnpr watch velvet get bullied by cardin. Two teams of the best people we know and they just watch a girl get picked on because she has rabbit ears. I can't remember how much time has passed between volume 3-5 but I do know that anytime we see Blake, we are actually seeing her in a slightly early time frame during volume 5 then the others. So for example when we see Blake this episode imagine we are seeing a flashback to a month ago or something. I'm sure someone has the exact time frame it's probably already been commented

Episode 8: This episode. Honestly I think this is easily in my top three of the season. Could possibly be my favorite. And you're reaction to it all was glorious. I love the whole interaction between Weiss and Yang. Both voice actresses killed it and the instrumental of Path to Isolation in the background. Ugh! So good. “How can I be there for her if she doesn’t let me? What if I needed her here for me?” Owwwwww… Baby girl…. Blake’s show of growth was so good. I’m so proud. Could have easily went to that meeting with Ilia by herself but no, she asked Sun to have her back. So good. Finally, I want to give it up to Cherami Leigh as the voice of Ilia. She does righteous anger so well and nailed her big scene here. Oh, Ilia. You poor, misguided girl. Also you not catching that she was talking about Blake at first made me laugh.

It's been a few months. The new school year hasn't started at Haven yet so it's been less than a year since the start of V1.

V2 is already the second semester of their first year and Ruby mentions its fall in V3. Then Team RNJR sets off in winter at the end of V3. So the first three volumes already eat up a year, now tack on all the travel time in V4 and 5. I think they are all about 1.5 years older than when we first met them at this point. Logistically I think V5 must be during the break before the second semester of Haven’s school year.

Most often it comes to incorporating it on their clothes/person in some way, usually through color." So basically, it's probably a nod to yang still thinking of and having a bond with Blake, despite the distance and heartbreak

She did wear purple in the Beacon arc too though, probably because the colors are complimentary. But i don't think that diminishes the connection to Blake AT ALL. In fact i think it shows that Blake and Yang were designed to compliment each other from the start, given blake also has touches of Yellow in her design

I feel like 5 has similar problems that 4 has, a lot of it is slow when a show comes out weekly. vol 1 had that problem for a lot of people due to the episodes cut in half. But I feel like if you can watch more than 1 or binge it you come to appreciate the volumes a lot more

A "lady's favor" is a token of esteem given by a lady to her favored knight - usually a ribbon or lace tied around his lance or adorned his armor. And in some medieval cultures, knighthood was signified by a garter worn below the knee. But here I am reading six levels deep into something that could just be the concept artist thinking "it looks cool!" But also it could be symbolic of the wound Yang carries from Blake leaving her.

So, to help with the time passage and how old folks are, this is what we know and what I and others have guessed at: Ruby was 14 turning 15 or just 15 at the start of the show. Then one school year goes by, since the vital festival happens in the fall/second semester and is a new thing (so not a second year thing as they would have already known about it). Penny's partner states that Ruby is 15 and leader of Tema RWBY. Then, the Vital Feastival happens late summer/early fall? We don't know how long semesters are for Beacon, but we don't see winter time at the school, and they mention a new semester at the start of V2. So Vital Feastival, which seems to be a new thing/thing that is new for the students, so it's not a new year/second year. Especially as they state that they can all compete to see who can join/fight in the festival. So Feastival happens Summer/Autumn. Then Beacan falls. We see fall leaves on the ground as Yang is depressed/recovering. Then we see snow on the ground when Ruby leaves for Mistrial/Haven Academy. As Ruby's birthday is Halloween (voice actors and writers have stated), so as she leaves for another country, she is 16. Next time we really see Yang is when snow is gone and looks warm out. Late spring if not Summer. And we know it takes time for folks to travel across continents since Ruby and JNPR haven't arrived at Mistrial yet, so when Yang leaves, time still must tick on. Though yes, she does have a motorcycle. So we'll say near a year from Fall of Beacon. From this point is hard to say, as things move fast even as it takes time to travel literally over continents. Though it was confirmed by voice actresses in a behind the scenes video of between Vol 5 and 6 that Ruby is now 17. I think second semester at Beacon is actually in the fall - Ruby mentions “well it is fall, so” in V3 (I think in the introduction to Winter/Weiss scene). So Beacon starts in spring. So ruby would have been about to turn 16 or just turned 16 during Vytal. Then winter falls and RNJR sets off into V4.

I honestly see Ruby being some form of aro/ace as more likely than not. In which case, I could 1000% see her and Weiss being in a queerplatonic relationship, which I think would be more than enough for Weiss even if she were romantically interested. Ruby would definitely be down for hugs, cuddles, dates, and... handholding (*GASP!*), even if she's not into kisses or anything *more* traditionally romantic activities. At least, that's what I hope for, they're so fucking cute and adorable together that I really want them to be more than just good friends lmao

I agree with the headcanon that Ruby is some flavor of aro/ace, and I would add that she seems to be more interested in weapons than people. This is why I liked the Nuts & Dolts ship so much: Ruby's the first person to recognize that Penny has a soul, but she's still artificial (and "combat ready") enough to check all Ruby's boxes, as it were. But otherwise...White Rose? Lancaster? Rose Garden? I just don't see them happening.

The Beacon school year is weird but it’s probably the only way that makes sense w Yang and Ruby’s birthdays. If it started in fall and Yang was 17 (having just turned it in July) and Ruby was 15, then they’d only be like 15 months apart (which would mean Tai hooked up w summer like 6 months after Raven left). If the school year starts in spring, Yang and Ruby’s ages of 17 and 15 at the start mean Yangs 2.25 years older, which has to be right. Otherwise…Tai, my man, buddy, pal.

That's really odd, During a RWBY/RT Livestream back in 2013 (on Youtube), they did a Q&A and addressed that Weiss, Blake and Yang were 17 at the start of Beacon. But with Blake's Birthday falling in January, that would have made her 18 at the start of Beacon. Which is why initially thought they were using the US school years with fall being the start. So now I'm finding out that they used the typical Asian (specifically Japan's) start of the school year which is Spring? In Japan they usually start in April but in the US, it varies between late August and early September. Haven't watched that video (will later) so I could be wrong but I'm willing to bet they hadn't given everyone exact birth dates and that's why the idea that early on WBY are 17 and Ruby is 15 has stuck for so long even though that can't be true. It makes sense though since Beacon is like irl university. I was 18 when I started my freshman year but a lot of my friends turned 18 during the school year

She wore it before she even stepped foot on Beacon but it was hard to tell because it looked gray in Poser lighting. It was basically the limitations of the Poser engine back then. It was only when CRWBY switched to the Maya engine her bandana became more vibrant.

Seconding SportySpice's comment and adding that it's an animator's headcanon you can also *easily* argue is incorrect. But it doesn't matter either way because Elijah has indicated that she doesn't WANT to know, like in this exact video, she's enjoying the journey and wants to see how things play out for herself and it's extremely disrespectful to ignore that for... literally no reason.

What I always appreciated about this reveal is that Blake not loving her back in the same way is not the reason she's doing all this. She is genuinely wrapped up in Adam's ideology and understandably angry. She's just using this reveal to show Blake that "hey, maybe you didn't know me as well as you thought."

Yeah I never quite understood the characters' outrage at Ozpin giving Qrow and Raven the ability to turn into birds. Like, "Gee, sorry I gave you an awesome magical ability that lets you fly whenever you want," which seems to come with no downsides, at least as far as we know at this point.

The entire plot of RWBY so far spans 2 years. V1-3 make up the first year. With V1 taking up almost half, V2 taking up the other half and V3 taking up the last few days. Overall, spaning from November to fall of the next year. This is year 1. V4 takes up most of year 2. Ruby sets off for Haven with Jaun, Nora and Ren in Winter and arrives in the fall of year 2. The entire story lines for Blake and Yang across V4 and 5 happen during Ruby's trip to Haven in V4. Yang leaves to find her sister and Blake defeats the White Fang on Menagerie. Both are already on their way to Haven when Ruby finally arrives. The only reason Yang didn't catch up to Ruby on the way was because she got a lift at the end of V4 with an air ship. Ruby arrives at haven in the fall of year 2. Her time in Haven lasts a couple of weeks. This is when all Weiss's scenes from V4 and 5 take place, when she runs away from her home and her and Yang reunite in Raven's camp. The finale of V5 happens in October of year 2 Volumes 6-9 all span two months. V6 is set in November, exactly 2 years since the start of V1, and spans 4 days. V7, 8 and 9 are all set in December with V8 and 9 collectively spanning less than a week.

I follow Mattables. Sometimes he gets it right on and other times he misses the mark. When it comes to relationships between characters whether it’s friendship, family or a romantic nature, Elijah understands it completely. Mattables, no disrespect to him, but he doesn’t seem to get the nuance between the characters as well as the emotions they’re going through. Like he kept mistaking Yang’s shaking hand as “rage” and didn’t get that it was part of her PTSD. Also the most recent reaction from Mattables, he didn’t get the nuance of Jaune and the rest of his team and their anger at the news of Salem being immortal and apparently undefeatable. He basically reduced him to Jaune having an ego and reverting back to Beacon Arc Jaune, when Jaune was just feeling hopeless thinking that Pyrrha’s sacrifice was for nothing. He was angry out of hurt, not machismo. And that was something I found odd. So no he doesn’t always hit the mark. But other times he does and I’m impressed.
