I appreciate how much you appreciate RWBY’s long form “slow burn” storytelling. It’s so rare these days (mostly due to the corporate streaming model), but it makes RWBY so special and unique. I get that people love the fight scenes — and episode 1 coming out the gate with the train fight is the show’s way of saying “heard” to some of the complaints about the fights in V5– but I really love that the show takes its time because it makes the payoff that much sweeter.

No one is doubting that. The thing is he didn't follow her to try to pursue something. Sun followed Blake to get her back to her team as well as Yang, since he mentioned Yang in V4. He knew where he stood with her during those volumes and he still does now. This is what makes Sun a selfless person because he put Blake's needs first before his own and attempted to get her back to where she belongs. It's just like the "Chip analogy" (example from another subscriber). It's from Beauty and the Beast where Sun is "Chip" in this situation where Chip stowed away and attempted to bring Belle back to the Beast.

So fun fact, you've hit on the similarities of Blake and Yang's eyes to their outfit colors, it goes deeper, Yang has a golden yellow aura, and Blake has a light purple aura, so their eyes are literally the same color as the others aura, the manifestation of their soul, fitting considering the old adage "the eyes are the window to the soul"

Honestly I can’t fault Dudley too much for the turrets specifically. It’s not like he designed the train so that the armored part of the car with the passengers in it is where the turrets were placed. You know it's gonna be a good volume bc V6 really takes rwby back to its roots: Blake decoupling train cars with Gambol Shroud lol Does the vocalization they used for the sphinx grimm’s last fireball make anyone else laugh or just me? I think it sounds so funny lol THE QUEEN OF RWBY HAS ARRIVED!!! So excited for this little old lady to finally make her debut! she became a fast favorite of mine

Adam Short: Seeing Adam and Blake while they were still together and him gaslighting the hell out of her makes me want to deck this dude in the face. "I just get scared when it feels like you don't believe in me." Ugh, I hate him. But CRWBY heard our cries and gave us an entire fight scene with Sienna. What a baddie. Speaking of, I like seeing the subtle difference between Adam and Sienna here. You can see that, while she’s okay with using necessary violence, she’s not killing the guards. She’s mainly just knocking them out. And we saw from the robots earlier how easy it would be for her to do so. Adam on the other hand... Ep 1: UGH it is so good to see the girls all together again! AHHHH! The eye thing with Blake and Yang is something you did in fact mention.... all the way back in the trailers. And a couple other times in V1. Yang also has that purple bandana tied around her leg. Ruby used her semblance with Nora back in the first episode of V4. It became that red and pink twisting blob thing. I do like the added detail of the rose petals having touches of white because of Weiss though. Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dudley over here. The bunk bed set up makes me wanna cry!!! AHHH! I love this volume so much! I'm so excited for you to see what it has in store!

There *is* a reason Adam keeps hiding his face, beyond trying to look cool. It explains a bit of why he is the way he is, without excusing it, cause of course, once he got a taste for bloodshed without it ever being tempered, he quickly became too far gone. "It was never about that." - This is why I love Sun & his arc. It's directly acknowledged that there's chemistry there that could be romantic, but Sun clarifies that wasn't why he was helping Blake. He was helping her cause he's a good friend & he knew she needed it. Hehe, we're about to get into the tension with Oscar and Ozpin, and it's not quite what you expect. Needless to say, the next two episodes are MAJOR. Very excited to see what you think of them.

Yea genuinely the relationship between Sun and Blake is way more interesting to me if you do acknowledge that there were feelings between Blake and Sun. Sometimes a crush doesn't work out but that doesn't mean the friendship is any less significant. Especially for Blake coming out of a relationship with an abusive partner

The timing of the Adam short is weird cause you'd expect it to be prior to Chapter 1 but he's still wearing the mask in his scene so I like to think that bit of him dropping the mask is actually after he massacred all the people in the throne room. Volume 6 has probably my favorite volume premiere. Sets the stage perfectly, has sick action sequences, gives us poignant character moments, and we get both the new intro AND a new insert song. Legit peak.

Adding on that I also love the show’s direction with Sun. RWBY is great at subverting a lot of tropes with its male characters: (1) Jaune’s character introduction suggests a much more standard-fare shonen archetype, but actually he’s the healer and strategist. He’s a support-type with a big heart, and thats where he thrives! (2) Qrow has all the hallmarks of a stereotypical lone wolf. Don’t get me wrong he’s a badass, but the show turns it on his head because Qrow thrives around family and looking after others. (3) Sun (and the show) never sees Blake as a “reward”. The show (and Sun) see women as people, so friendship is not a consolation prize. And he learns more about the Faunus cause through his loyalty to Blake and never supplants her in her own story. The show gives male characters emotional depth and lets them cry and be soft and need others, and I really love that.

It's interesting that you bring up the bit about Sun and Blake and how people tend to read into their relationship too much because that was how I felt about Blake and Yang. A lot of it has to do with the toxic part of the fandom at the time who were rabidly shipping Yang and Blake together to the point they were sending threats to the writers of the show over it. I've always been a proponent of healthy platonic love, regardless of who it is between. Sun was incredibly healthy for Blake to be around and in the earlier volumes she did show attraction to him and him to her. There was possible romance to their dynamic but what I loved about the writing is that Sun helped her because he genuinely cared about her. He wanted what was best for her no matter what and put himself second. Do I think they were romantic? Not really, but I could see it heading there eventually. Blake and Yang are similar in that regard. I never read into their interactions that hard so the shippers always confused me. I just thought that had a great dynamic with Yang being the extrovert who pulled Blake out of her shell. My problem with their dynamic as it stands is that they both have issues that need addressing if a healthy relationship is to bloom. Otherwise it will become a toxic codependancy.

The hand of the mysterious person in the opening doesn't look like a claw to me, think they're just wearing gloves? Or at least it definitely doesn't look Grimm since then it would be black. Never mind the second time they show it, it definitely looks like a claw, but not anything like a Grimm hand, though I guess it looks bandaged. I never noticed that before.

To be fair those were irrational teenagers in an echo chamber. But there was a fair share of anti-Bumbleby fans that also caused as much havoc or even more by harassing the LGBTQ communities that supported Bumbleby. So it goes both ways and you can’t just pin it on Bumbleby shippers. Eclipse Shippers (can’t use BlackSun anymore due to its nazi connections) did the same.

Oh, for sure. The toxic shippers are to blame in general, I wasn't trying to single out Bumblebee. Just look at the White Rose shippers, they may have been less vocal but a lot of them looked at any interaction as proof of chemistry. In my own personal opinion, there isn't a very thick line between romantic and platonic chemistry. Both are generally built on the same foundation, the missing ingredient between them is often just attraction. So yeah, what makes Weiss and Ruby such good friends means they would probably make good romantic partners but that's no reason to try and force them together or read into their relationship more than necessary. I've always felt the same way about Blake and her various potential romantic interests.

From Ein Lee's concept art, there's a version of Blake they considered with the same heterochromia arrangement as Catra. Had they used that one, Yang would have had a turquoise accent in addition to her purple one

That Adam character short does a lot for fleshing out his dynamic with Blake, the Ghira Sienna split within the White Fang, and even adding some extra world building around the treatment of the Faunus. It would make sense why the White Fang exists if Faunus in rural areas run the risk of being attacked by violent hate mobs trying to kill them. It would have been nice to see examples of this in previous volumes, but even if it’s retroactive world building I still appreciate its inclusion. Plus the action in that short is really really cool. Some great fighting. Love Sienna’s chain whip!!! Also omg. I hope that after the public release of this video someone clips Elijah’s reaction to that rooftop scene in the short. The SHIFT from “Fuck you gaslighting asshole” 🤬 to “Omg she’s so cute look at her kitty ears” 🥺 had me cackling lol.

I loved the Adam short, but I think I'm in a minority with some morals here. Imagining that we only know what the characters knew at the time (meaning we don't know the kind of person Adam becomes), I tend to side with Selena Khan. The humans are attacking them unprovoked with the intent to kill them. They shouldn't have to cower under fire and not defend themselves on principal. Adam did what he did to save Ghira, it wasn't wrong. But Ghira was right also, but not for any moral reason (a cold hearted murderer F__ked around and found out, HoW sAd...). I think what he was saying was that those humans are going to turn the story around and make things worse for the local fanus because 'the animals killed them unprovoked', but that's just not how Ghira says it. and it just rubs me the wrong way. I know peace is the best option, but sometimes the people in power leave the oppressed no choice but to fight back. Maybe if he said ' thanks, but killing humans will only bring more violence on our people' or something along those lines, I could have gotten behind it.

Totally not intentional that they've been hiding it for this long. - I gasped the first time I watched this short and saw Adam spray blood like that. RWBY is very particular with when they use blood and gore so it always hits hard. - Note Ghira here. He's in much more plain attire than what her wears in Menagerie and not transporting much. He wasn't always chieftain/"royalty." - Sienna has probably my favorite faunus design. And she's so cunty. I'm glad they brought her back through this. - The fighting of the bots is very reminiscent of the Black trailer. - You know what, I've never noticed that his design gains more and more red. Makes me feel like a fake fan. - I knew you'd go wild for Blake and Yang scene. I do the same every time I watch it because oh my god they're so in sync despite not seeing each other for months. - You've definitely mentioned the eye thing. You did in the color trailers. We love complementary colors. - That's not new a new ability from Ruby. She did it with Nora in the first episode of V4. Though they are definitely evolving the semblances of the characters slowly but sure. - I also never noticed the dragon statue. I really need to rewatch this series through again (I say like I haven't watched it 8 times). - I love that when Ruby was back into Weiss' life proper, her outfit gained red again (through the scarf). It was completely missing while she was stuck at home. - They intended for Ilia to be wearing a different outfit here, but needed to save budget and thus recycled one from a background character. She looks great in it though. - Elijah forever guessing the lines and jokes before they're said. - Sun is such a himbo. He's so oblivious and dumb at times, but he means well. I dislike the kind of romantic teasing they did between him and Blake, but he really did help her. She was so caught up in her head wanting to punish herself. - Sage and Scarlet are the other members of Team SSSN. They didn't focus on them, like, at all, outside of the fight in V3. They're in the canon novel Before the Dawn though. - Tbh I wish Blake and Yang had some more harsh angst with their reunion, but at the same time I get it. When I had a similar situation with my best friend (now girlfriend). We were awkward at first, and had a lot to talk about, but fell right back into our old dynamic. It's part of why I love these two so much. - I have some fun readings into Jaune's semblance's symbolism to make but I'm gonna save those for later episodes. - Black trailer allusion baby!!!! - This song is called Miracle and it FUCKS. One of my favorite songs in the series. - Number wise there's not a ton of fights but all of them are this fucking cool. Actually, they're cooler. I can't wait for you to see them. - You can't bring a bad bitch down. Especially a feral mangy cat like Cinder. - The openings are always great for foreshadowing the volume's events, so make your speculations now. It's only gonna get wilder from here.

One of the things that I like about Adams short is how they show the shift from "It's time we got what we deserved" to "It's time I got what I derserved". His feelings and motivations might have been genuine at some point, but the person that he is now only cares about himself and his ability to control others. Anyone that disagrees with him becomes an enemy that deserves to die. He sure got what he deserved in the volume 5 finale though! 😂 Edit: To clear up any confusion, I was referring to how Adam was thoroughly "sassed by the Belladonna girl" and ran away. I was NOT referring to any events that may or may not happen after the fifth volume, which is the volume that I specifically mentioned. I have no intention or desire to post spoilers and ruin part of the experience for someone.

i remember first getting into rwby just after v5 finished airing and really loving bumbleby's dynamic and posting abt it on socials a bunch and was immediately hit with a wave of anons saying i was stupid for liking the possibility of blake and yang together romantically. so yeah it went both ways.

I love seeing Elijah fangirl over the Bumbleby moments. It's definitely my favorite part of this episode. Also, the old lady at the end with the mechanical eyes is a new character. I appreciate that Elijah made it obvious in this reaction that she does in fact understand aura. Maybe she learned from the World of Remnant, maybe she learned from someone in the community, or maybe she knew full well already but chose to make it clear in this video to the viewers. It felt intentional anyway. That's also one of the less important of the many awesome things in this video, but I thought it merited mention.

I’m so glad you pointed out how manipulative that one scene with Adam was, a lot of people seemed to not understand that moment. If you really break down the scene, it’s really sad. When Blake first confronts him, she does act nervous but more upset than anything else. Sure, holds her arms and her voice softens at ‘how many more accidents are their going to be,’ but she keeps eye contact and she sounds angry at first. It’s clear that she doesn’t like being mad at him but she still has the conviction to stand for her beliefs. But once Adam brings up her parents, all of that changes. She shrinks, she looks away, she says she doesn’t know. Suddenly all of that conviction is gone and she’s questioning herself. Remember that when Blake was venting to Ghira she said she yelled at them, called them cowards, etc. To me this scene very heavily implies that Adam isolated her from her parents to begin with, and uses that weak spot to keep her in her ‘place.’ Which is textbook groomer behavior (keep in mind that Adam was stated to be maybe around 25 years old, and Blake is about 19 now. Which means Adam is like 4-6 years older than her. Judging by the outfit changes, she was with him for a while before she left when she was 17. Considering she’s also referred to him as a mentor, that paints a pretty disgusting picture. My poor girl)

good point about the shorts providing some context and insight because that's really what they do. the main show doesn't have the luxury of delving into all the backstories equally, so getting these character shorts is a fun way to flesh them out while connecting it to things that are about to happen in the present. I absolutely LOVED the reaction to Blake's remark "Wrong tree." love that Elijah called it by accident and then got so hyped when Blake said it. love the enthusiasm for lesbian Ilia confirmation. also loving the hype for the Bees! it's so much fun watching someone react to RWBY and be so passionate about Blake and Yang, as individuals and as combat partners. her love for the Bees is so satisfying. oh she is going to have so much fun this volume... lots of goodies in store!

Ruby has done that move before with Nora at the beginning of volume 4, but let me tell you white rose fans were losing it over that and "thank me later" back then (and weiss helping ruby up in the opening lol)! Havent started the video yet but this episode holds a special place for me. This was the last premiere they did theater showings for... and the only one i got to go to. I will never forget how cool it was to find so many other local fans. I dont have any friends who watch so getting to take over a theater with other people who genuinely love the series was something special.

Yeah idk his character is done well imo. He is what is he because of what is he and his story goes the way it does because of that. Hate being vague but can't spoil lol. I adore how passionate you've become about this show, I've loved rwby for over a decade and seeing you watching it now is so much fun, your energy is so contagious and seeing your unbiased and unfiltered reactions is so so so refreshing! especially after going through years of rwby being the laughing stock of the internet, thanks to a loud minority, and so now watching someone go in blind and love rwby for what it is instead of what they wanted it to be is amazing.

Mile Luna wrote those scenes between Blake and Sun, and he explained that the Beacon scenes did show mutual crushes but from a Teen point of view where it eventually became fleeting even in the midst of the Fall of Beacon. Sun’s role was not romantic in Volume 4 and 5 like some people think. His only role in V4-5 was to convince Blake to go back to her Team while also reminding her that she didn’t have to do things alone. Blake NEVER brought him to her parents. He just tagged along. But somehow some people are framing it as something like romantic development. Miles explained in that Cameo video that they were never supposed to progress any further. Sun and Blake never SPOKE about any mutual feelings so no development. All they ever talked about were things regarding the White Fang and about Blake’s team (Team RWBY). But NONE of their discussions ever even touched the topic of THEIR feelings. In fact all their circumstances didn’t even revolve around EACH OTHER. And in storytelling, for a couple of people (especially Main characters ), there has to be first meetings, a bonding moment, urgency that involves BOTH of them, relevant hurdles that they both face and overcome so that when they’re personal arcs are finished they are finally ready for each other. It’s in every Romance-Centric movie. RWBY isn’t Romance-Centric so their romance storylines are considered the Plot B whereas the Plot A is the Salem plot. Sun is not a main character but a featured one. His role is a supporting one and acts as a catalyst to bring Blake back to where she needs to be. And none of it was pointless. Sun was shown to help someone despite not asking for it and even at times outright refusing it. He served his purpose by being the Confidante and also a bit of a Herald in Blake’s “Hero’s Journey” Arc. Just in the same way Tai played a similar type of role for Yang and Klein did for Weiss. The Teen crush stuff was just to demonstrate that they’re typical teens (during the Beacon arc). And no one at 17 in RWBY was ever ready for any kind of relationship but perhaps a fling with no strings attached. Also the Beacon arc had specifically shown that Sun didn’t read Blake correctly. He told Neptune the best part about Blake was that she’s a Faunus. Blake then says in another scene with other people (Ozpin) that she’s wants to be seen as more than a Faunus. They are shown to not have synergy but they can still remain friends.

And that’s why Ghira went through that arc where he ends up fighting along side his “Brothers and Sisters” (the Faunus) against Adam. Remember that he along with his family had mentioned training the Faunus to be ready for Haven. While it was Blake’s Character arc for her own development, Ghira went through development as well, Because the trailer shows a very “early” Ghira,” Notice his beard is still shorter? What happens in Volume 4 and 5 is a time skip. And after their circumstances and fight with the Albanian Brothers, it taught them something.

I think Ghira's arc is his returning belief in his former cause. they're training people to fight, but not fight the humans who are harming them, but protecting them. It's going to have a great effect for his people, but I don't think he's ever endorsed defending themselves against violent racist humans.

Is volume 6 my favorite? ... No. Though it is the second (7 barely edges behind while volume 3 holds in first) with the amount of LORE it drops on us. That said, it /does/ have my favorite song in it's OST as an insert. Took awhile to dethrone I May Fall, but Indomitable did it in 30 seconds. Good catch on their eyes. It actually goes further. Yang's aura is gold, Blake's aura is Violet. Aura is 'the manifestation of [their] souls'. They have the 'soul' of their partner in their eyes. Jaune's 'new' team has Oscar, making them 'team ORNJ' (orange). The moment you said 'wrong tree' I knew you were going to be thrilled in a few seconds. :D FNDM name for the Jaune/Ren move has been called World Peace. :p

So much about Blake and Adam's dynamic is (obviously intentionally) disturbing, but tbh there's nothing between them in the show that makes my skin crawl the way their scene in the Adam Short does. Not only because of the obvious gaslighting and manipulation, but because CRWBY went out of their way to animate a younger looking Blake to drive home the fact that Adam's a groomer and a pedo on top of being a unhinged murderer. (Blake was in the WF w/ Adam from the ages of 12-17, post V3 it was confirmed that Adam was 5-6 years older than her which means he was 17-23 while they were together). The thing with the turrets is actually one of my favorite little ways that CRWBY shows the difference between your average huntsmen and huntresses and actual professionals. I haven't seen a single reactor that assumed that the turrets were a *bad* idea until Qrow points out the issue with using them, and I think it's a really smart way to kinda show that professional skill; with something that will go over the audience's head in the moment, but make perfect sense once explained. One of my favorite things about this volume (no actual spoilers for the rest of it) is that it's in a lot of ways an amalgamation of a bunch of different ideas that CRWBY had had up to this point that they'd not been able to fit in anywhere else. Not saying *who* she is but the old lady at the end was one such instance. She was originally someone they wanted to introduce during V5, but hadn't been able to fit in. I'm sure everyone will fill you in on the other things as we get to them, we're really good at passing down our fandom lore, lol.

Not my argument at all, I can’t say my argument without spoilers, but it’s actually quite more narrowly targeted towards some symblological elements I find in a later scene. Anyway, we don’t have to all feel the same way about art, narratives, etc. And we’re allowed to discuss those things cordially. It’s a normal part of art appreciation. We can enjoy most of something and say “I would have made different decisions at points Y and Z” in casual discussion with those who liked Y and Z. We’re not like… rival gangs or something.

Indeed the fandom lore is one of the funniest parts of the fandom! Every time a new reactor joins in we’re like a bunch of old ladies trying to shove all of our treats at our grandchildren. And yeah agreed, Adam is a super disturbing character but for some reason a lot of people seem to miss the characterizations that prove it. Maybe because it’s mostly done subtly?

One, the old lady metaphor is really perfect, lmao. I really love that about the RWBY fandom though, I watch tons of reactions for tons of things, but I've never seen a community so devoted to it's history and sharing it with folks as they come into the fandom. It's really beautiful from a like... cultural stand point, tbh. I think it's less that people miss the characterization and more that they made up a version of who Adam was in their head during V1-3 (cuz let's be real the VAST majority of Adam defenders/RWBY "critics" are just the incel weeb hold outs from early volumes that just refuse to go away and make it our problem). So when it turned out that the cool, mysterious, and misunderstood man they *wanted* to project on was actually just an abusive, manipulative, groomer... well that was clearly just bad writing and not them making up a whole ass "edgy" alternate personality for a character we knew basically nothing about until V3 except that Blake ran away from him... and even then they were just vague enough about it that it's not obvious the depths of what Blake was running from until it's right in our faces.
