OH MY GOD THIS EPISODE! Still got a sore throat so I'm gonna wait, I wanna enjoy this with some peak snacks/food, but god I'm excited.

Moonlight Mariposa

Quoted from offical merchandise: “In Leola's name. I want to make them hurt. Because they struck a wound so deep in me that it will never heal.” Yeah... Aaravos has some bones to pick, plain and simple. Also the fact Leola is heavy implied to have some flavor of autism in both her mannerism and behavior just makes this even worse in my eyes.

Moonlight Mariposa

Also, fun fact, we've seen Leola every episode for the past few seasons. She has been in the opening on the star map, on the left side. Leola was also mentioned in season 4, I believe? As a star called Leola's Last Wish next to Garlath's belt, when Rayla and Callum are discussing the stars. Anok Arow is Sol Regem, we hear Aaravos refer to him as that last episode but its a very quick scene that could be easily forgotten. It explains why Aaravos targets him to relentlessly - he is literally the reason for his daughter's death. We also have heard of Leola from books written for the show, though it wouldn't be obvious until now. One of the books say that humans were given magic by a Unicorn and here we find that it was actually referring to Leola. Also, regarding a comment you made I feel compelled to point out that even if Aaravos was put into a coin he could still never see his daughter again. She wasn't just killed, she was essentially erased from reality as we know it, her soul doesn't exist anymore. She can never come back, hence why Aaravos never tried to bring her back even when he'd gotten his hands on a quasar diamond, which we know he had to have stolen before his imprisonment. He couldn't bring her back.

LikeCat

We have heard (or more specifically read) of Leola before - even if we didn't knew it back then - in the last page of the book version of Season 1 (her being refferred to as ,,a Unicorn")... On that note, from that book (and from previous examples - narrations from mainly Season 1/3) we learn that Aaravos is an unrelable narrator. Not lying per se, but bending the truth just enough where it IS true but he leaves out crusiol details for his own ,,long game"... Think Oz from RWBY (since you are now past ,,the big lore dump") - just more evil

Rain

Another great one, I don't know how you thought Claudia was ever going to be a better person. She's no better than Viren, never has been. Just because she didn't use dark magic for a few episodes doesn't mean she gave it up or was turning over a new leaf. She still fully intended to help aaravos all that time. Doesn't care about killing people as long as it is for her "family". Doesn't care about manipulating people yada yada. Also Aaravos is JUST as bad as Viren. I mean he's partly responsible for every dark mage's actions because of how it corrupts them, and he taught it to them knowing what it would do.

Nektis Noir

To address your confusion, Virens spell imprisoned PART of their souls in coins. The Moon Nexus is a sort of purgatory between the real world and the afterlife for broken wayward souls. Rayla gave her parents their coins so they could be whole again and pass on. She saw they were fulfilled and now knew how their daughter had grown. They were happy and ready to move on together. But Runaan has unfinished business. He considers himself a monster for his assassinations. And he still needs to return to Ethari. So Rayla gave him his coin and Callum used the spell to bring him back.

Andy

Rayla's parents have been trapped between this world and the afterlife since their encounter with Viren. Her story about the egg gave them closure, and returning the coins allowed them to pass on And choosing Runaan over them allowed both pairs of parents to be with each other

Nektis Noir

Hey now, I feel that's a gross misunderstanding of Claudia. Claudias understanding of dark magic and what family means was ingrained in her from practically birth. She's a girl with a twisted sense of how the world should work BECAUSE of how she was raised. And there's also heavy implication she's on the autism spectrum. Viren however was a grown man who definitely knew better. Also no, Claudia definitely had a chance at redemption. She stopped dark magic BECAUSE of Terrys support and her father's parting words. Otherwise she would've continued following Aaravos right away. The only reason why she didn't set redemption in stone is cause she wanted to see Viren one last time and hear how things were going for his new path. Once she saw it had led to him dying again and Aaravos took advantage of that, THAT was when any chance of redemption died. This view of Claudia just seems incredibly bad faith and malicious

CrowOfAFeather

Yes, it was mentioned earlier in the episode that the coins have fragments of Rayla's parent's souls. So she chose to bring back Runaan(?) back to life and make her parents' souls complete so they could finally die properly and pass on into the afterlife. A hard decision, but one that makes sense in a way.

It's the smallest thing, but I miss when Elijah would just let the end credits play out with music. The end music of shows is often written to be a calming wind-down, and you lose something by skimming over it without music. Especially with this show, it feels like we're stewing in impatience. Also with Vox Machina, cause there's often fun music over the credits, and the concept art is a really beautiful reminder of what we just watched. I just really miss that.

Chara Dreemurr

If I remember correctly, Amor Stella Vitae is Latin and it translates to Love is the Star of Life

Vengerin

This episode consolidated Aaravos as my favorite character of the series, I liked him before but I loved him with the revelation of Leola. I have read all the extra material of the series, including the tabletop rpg book (that is so beautiful and amazing, btw) and startouched elves are few (most likely we saw all of them in that court scene), ultra powerful, giants and mostly immortal (also there is a huge possibility they reproduce asexually based on the creation of constelations), and the same that those elves that covered their eyes could perceive time and see the future, them too and they knew that humans having magic could be the end of them... But like most prophecies, is a self-fullfiling one. Leola gave magic to humans out of compassion, not dark magic, the elemental stones, like the ball with the storm inside that Callum stole from Claudia? That... and Sol Regen snitched and the startouch elves decided to destroy the autistic daughter of Aaravos in front of him, kickstarting the events that will follow. They didn't just kill a girl, they obliterated her soul and her very being, transforming her into a fallen star that crashlanded on the ground, where Aaravos cried for one hundred years. And I get it, I'm a mother. Also, Aaravos has this to himself, he doesn't lie, he's more devious, he manipulates with the truth which is more harder to counter in the long run. Next season has some very interesting things, some things you'll love, I think that is an interesting one.

Ryan

Derpy cat shirt!!! "And so it came to pass that the players took their final places. Making ready the events that were to come..." On to season seven! I can promise you it will be good reaction material.

Enchanted_Echo

It's very fun looking back at the intro we first saw in season 4 and realizing that they were showing Aaravos's actual height the whole time. Also I hate to burst your bubble for Runan but.......what did he do before he got caught in a coin again? Also yeah Claudia.....so much potential and here we go again....woo (cries)

Bailey

I've seen you say that you aren't sure if you'll be watching the final season, so if you do end with this season, I'm glad you at least got to watching this episode.

Flufux

Interesting how you by pure chance got two villain backstory episodes with huge lore drops back to back, first Salem, now Aaravos.

FullmetalNinja25

If you choose to end your Dragon Prince reactions here, we completely understand Elijah as you're clearly not enjoying the show anymore.

Bug Catcher Jacky

Yeah, and tbh, s7 isn't getting any better. Other than a few minor things that is

Bug Catcher Jacky

It's so funny how everyone has the same exact reaction to Aaravos being huge. We keep being shown their size and yet still don't get it xD I was so freaking baffled too. If you want to add salt to injury by the way: Aaravos not only filled the Sea of the Castout with his own tears, his prison was also hidden beneath. So he was literally trapped in the crater of his dead daughter's body that got filled with his own tears. That is so f-ed up, I can't help but root for him now, ngl. Oh, and yeah. Apparently Aaravos nevrr lies so the story is true. Idk when they decided he never lies, but yeah.

Cladriah

The creators confirmed she is autistic

Moonlight Mariposa

Oh, they did? Cool! I thought they had but I didn't have time to confirm and I didn't want to spread something without confirmation lol

Chris P3

You’re on the home stretch now. These reactions have been a constant source of comfort and entertainment during a very expensive and stressful year. Thank you for everything you do.

The Akimbo Knight

So happy you at least got to this episode but honestly if you feel strongly about ending the reaction series here we will completely understand. There’s only a few moments in season 7 that you’ll really enjoy and none of us will blame you at all if you decide to move on

The Akimbo Knight

I can maybe think of like 4 moments from season 7 that she’ll genuinely want to see but everything in between will only make it harder to get through

song sl

Well he did mention he never lies. I don’t remember in which context that was and to who but I clearly remember him strongly saying he never lies (maybe it was to Viren or Sol Regem idk)

Miranda Corvus

Its not referenced in the show, however showrunners have confirmed the massive skeletal remains where Aaravos' pearl was hidden is Leola, or what's left of her

Aineyn

I think it's something he says a few times actually, but the first time was to Viren, literally the first time they get to talk to each other! Heck, I still remember Elijah doubting that statement, even though it's actually true! :)

Catradora fan

So basically Aaravos is a better father than Viren 🤯

Ryan

That's an awfully low bar. Pretty sure Silco is a better "father" than Viren.

Catradora fan

Very true A lot of terrible father's in media 😬

Rye-Ah

I love Rayla's unconscious growth the past few seasons regarding her relationship to Runaan and Ethari. In S3, she's calling them "my parents' best friends" who happened to also be taking care of her. When she sacrifices her blades in S4, Rayla tells Rex Igneous "those two elves were LIKE fathers" - implying an acknowledgement of their role as parents, but not fully accepting the depth of the bond. Throughout S5+6, Rayla doesn't distinguish between her biological parents and Runaan when looking at or speaking to the coins, seemingly accustomed to the idea that all three are equally her parents And all of it culminates in this episode where she proclaims with conviction that she IS Runaan's daughter, and that she loves him and wants to see him reunited with Ethari - so they can return to being a family

Eliteguard99

FR, Silco wouldn’t give up his ADOPTED daughter meanwhile Viren had zero qualms with using his blood related children to get what he wants.

Eliteguard99

Claudia has one of the most sloppy villain arcs I’ve ever seen.

Ryan

Too true... (Hums "Cat's in the Cradle")

Jasmine King

I've been waiting for this specific episode! I just remember how much Aravos' story gripped me when I first got to it.

Dark Danny

My problem with Claudia is that she didn't go dark enough

Suplee215

I think this is a good example of how important first impressions are to story telling. While we saw aaravos almost the entire series, we didnt get any info on his backstory or how he interacted with loved ones. When we see the backstory we can take it more honestly and without baggage. Unlike how they did Viren's backstory with saving it for a twist ending. By the time we get an inkling we already dont trust him and unless the audience fully bought into the show and Viren (accepting that even if hes evil hes still being honest) no one will really change their mind. Not that you need to di a linear telling of story all the time. Just i thibj if we knew Viren saved Soren as a boy in season 1 we have a much stronger basis on his claims of family. I thibk its a similiar thing woth rayla and her adopted fathers. In hindsight its clear that he was trying to teach her the job and not olay favorites so thats why the assassin party feels less fathery but as first impression it doesnt set uo the relationship.

Suplee215

An under looked part of this episode I think is the reason for punishment. There is apparently a prophecy type thing that if humans ever got magic, itll bring an end to the "cosmic order". And we see that all the daughter wanted to do was help humanity. That why gave humans some magic. That didnt matter to the cosmic order. So the treatment of humans as a species that shouldnt have magic goes back that lojg and is a real thing and not just a tale to justify dark mages.

Bug Catcher Jacky

Yeah but me saying I never lie and it actually being true are two entirely different things lol.

Rain

Fair points. Definitely not saying Viren is innocent. But Claudia has done some really horrible things, and she's an adult. Like yeah part of that is because of how Viren raised her, but Soren didn't turn out that way and he was treated far colder. It just feels like people go a lighter on Claudia than she deserves sometimes. Viren was dead for three years, everything she did in that time was all on her. And everything from volume 4-6 was also her too, with Aaravos guiding of course. But that same defense could be used for Viren in volume 1-3. So that's just where I'm coming from. Just because she's bubbly and kind to people she likes doesn't make her a good person, if anything it makes her more dangerous because you can't tell.

graave

ugh this episode is one of my favourties in the whole show. I hope you stick around for season 7; even though it requires a lot of pateince, I still enjoyed it. AND there's a kickstarter for a third arc called The Dragon King! It'll be an adult animated show with another time skip following our characters and following what happens at the end of season 7!

SauceyRed

Welp, now I gotta decide whether to watch book 7 by myself first, or watch it with Elijah. In recent times I've usually done the latter, but I think for this show in particular, I'm gonna go through it myself first. (There wasn't really a reason for me stopping, I just caught up, then just never ended up watching book 7 when it released, which is usually what happens when I'm caught up and new content comes out lmao.)

SauceyRed

Unrelated to the episode, but Aaravos is what started my love for characters with themes and designs based around stars, and just the theme of stars and the cosmos in general. Then the Collector from TOH just reinforced it. Moon Knight also tapped into it a bit with all the moon stuff. Like, genuinely, I LOVE star themes and imagery. I've also come up with a concept for a fantasy race of beings born from stars, and separate star-like characters separate from that concept. I just think it's so cool! So thank you for that, Dragon Prince lmao. If I ever end up making a comic, or a show, or anything like that, I will absolutely 100% guarantee there will be a character based on or inspired by Aaravos and/or the Collector, who wields powerful abilities coming directly from the stars.

Cladriah

This episode highlights a central theme of this show: Grief, how we handle it. King Harrow was manipulated by his grief into slaying Thunder. Zebeia in her grief, sentenced Ezran and Harrow to death. In Claudia's grief, she is now vulnerable to Aaravos's manipulation. And in Aaravos's grief, he let his grief turn to malice. The cycle of hatred and grief is intertwined. Esmeray grief over Luna Teneberis harmed the Celestial elves.

RenWillsen

Since Rayla didn't save her parents and only saved Runaan, they still have one quasar diamond left. If King Harrow really is trapped within the bird, then they could use the last quasar diamond to save him.

RenWillsen

And I was slightly worried when Viren died that if the Harrow bird theory becomes canon, he died supposedly without telling anyone, so what if he is trapped but they don't find out. However, then I remembered that Ezran can talk to animals lol, so hopefully if it is true in the show they will find out. I really do hope that the theory is right and that they can save Harrow because if Harrow's spirit really was in his body when it was killed then Callum just brought back the man that killed his father.
