MAN HAD ONE JOB, AND HE GOT COCKY!

Henkotron

Mircsy's take on the cyclops is so incredible. I wish more artists would abandon long established "normal" designs for fictional beasts to make them scarier.

Dark Danny

I know most musicals get live plays but i think the Jorge should try to get this fully animated

Henkotron

My favorite gotta be Polyphemus for the entire Odysseus-Polyphemus interaction, but the best moment of the entire Saga is by far: "Who hurts you?" "It was nooooobody:" "If nobody hurt you be silent!"

EDHPlayer

This saga doesn’t have a lot of misconceptions but there are a few details left out as well as missing cultural context. So Polyphemus, and the Cyclopses in general, are “the other” in Greek myth. They are barbarians and are unwilling to adhere to the sacred rites of hospitality. In The Odyssey, Odysseus and his men did in fact eat some of the fruits and cheeses that Polyphemus had out but intended to exchange their wine as repayment. Polyphemus effectively said “nah, fuck that” and trapped them in his cave by sealing it with a boulder. He then proceeded to kill and eat two men every day until Odysseus came up with a plan. Lotus was not used in the story as the wine is super potent. EPIC also implies that Odysseus had the chance to outright kill Polyphemus, which was not the case in The Odyssey. They had to escape or they would die. Side note, had Odysseus did as much as raised his voice to Athena, she would have wiped him from the planet. The Olympians did not tolerate disrespect, from mortal or immortal alike. The Olympians were pretty much the only ones who could disrespect each other but even then

Raine

"Remember them" is my favorite from this saga and "My goodbye" is a close second. This little guy on Ody's shoulder is a winion - Jorge's own addition to the Odyssey. In Epic they are the lotus eaters. They are totally cute and adorable and so funny😂 Also I honestly still don't know who voices Polyphemus - is it just Jorge with a voice filter? If anyone knows this then please let me know😂 Every singer in Epic has such incredible voice, including Jorge himself, it's a treat every single time listening to any of the songs honestly.

Phoenix_mercury

Poly is Mr jalapeno using a vocaliser(I think it's called) he made a bts on TT about how he did the voice

Phoenix_mercury

On the last part, a certain messenger may find it amusing to watch("this lil mortal is being feisty" kinda way👀🤣) but yeah....

Phoenix_mercury

Especially when the diff design makes *sense* like here!

Phoenix_mercury

Tbf a goddess showed up, berated him, told him it's it's own fault his lifelong best friend is dead... All whilst grieving... He's allowed a lil crash out... /Lh

Raine

Thank you!

Rye-Ah

Ah? What is that I hear in the distance? It's the faint ringing of the Hubris Bell™ isn't it! Oh boy, well I'm sure Odysseus will be fine and the rest of the trip to Ithaca is just one more week of smooooth sailing

DarkGodHao

Oh absolutely, but honestly bruh should've remained named "nobody" but that sinful pride, oh that sinful pride

Verdant Crown

Odysseus: *doxxes himself* Athena: "You f*cking donkey."

Aiden N.

Any song with Athena is my favorite. She's amazing

Andy

Odysseus is a genius in many ways, but he's also a very prideful man

JustIJess

I'm not sure if anyone has told you but Jorge, the creator of Epic, is the voice of Odysseus. He also did the voice for Polyphemus I’m pretty sure.

Aiko

Okay the thing about the little Lotus eater is that they are meant to represant the fandom, which is called Winions, so they are called Winions via pupolar vote, welcome to the Winion fandom

Stormyweather

Fun fact!!: The creator of the musical also sings for Odysseus!!

2026-09-26 15:00 Polyphemus + Survive: I love mircsy's design for the Cyclops. Absolutely metal. I also just love some of the cinematic choices mircsy made. Like showing the baby and then blinking and it turning into Poly on "it's just one life to take" like... geez it's so good. While he is using a voice changer, I love that both these songs are just Jorge singing with himself. Remember Them: The guitar is so good on this one, not gonna lie. It almost makes me forgive the fact that Ody is a big dummy dumb and basically doxxes himself! WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS ODY!!! I get why, he let his hubris lead. He was angry and wanted throw salt in the cyclops wound. Athen (in this story) also just really ticked him off cuz she was being Athena so.... But still. Ody. Why! My Goodbye: TEAGAN!!!!!! My queen! Light of my life! I love her voice so much. Anytime she sings I'm so happy. Oh My Goodbye… I understand where both of them are coming from to some extent. Athena is right, Ody was incredibly reckless with some of his choices made in this saga. HOWEVER! Athena came at this all wrong. The man is grieving the loss of his men and she just comes in like “wow bro, you really messed that up and let your emotions lead.” So of course Ody gets defensive, fires back at her which only drives the wedge deeper. Hubris and poor communication. Truly the downfall of so much. Especially in Greek myth.

Lol love Danny

Rip to Pancakes, gone but not forgotten. I do love the way each artist has their own design for characters, monsters and just the world as a whole - you can really feel the impact when you see those differences

Adrian

"I never understood that choice he makes" its because of hubris. And everyone even slightly familiar with greek mythology knows how quick the Gods are in punishing hubris. Odysseus, for all his wit and cleverness, was an incredibly arrogant individual (and very self-righteous), and its highlighted in both the Iliad and the Odyssey as being a core reason for all the hardships he faces on his journey home. He brags about the accomplishments he does but fails to acknowledge and thank the Gods for their aid in those accomplishments (Its one of the MANY reasons Poseidon hates him so much in the Odyssey. He personally aided Odysseus in the making of the Trojan Horse, since Poseidon is the God of Horses. He PROTECTED Odysseus and his crew when they were in the horse and one of the Trojans almost exposed them. And then Odysseus failed to give any gratitude or respect to Poseidon for essentially giving Ody what he needed to win the war and claimed all the credit to himself instead.) He also often shunned and rebuffed divine assistance and advice because of his own overconfidence. A lot of the tragedies he faces in the Odyssey are self-imposed because he believed himself invincible and invulnerable. Even now, it's the arrogance of needing the Cyclops to know EXACTLY who bested him that drove him to this monumental fuck up. Epic does wonders in toning down just how bad those flaws were, but even in the musical his greatest weakness is still his own arrogance. That's why Athena is so pissed at him, too. Not only did he rebuke the order/advice of a GOD, he rebuked the instruction of the GODDESS OF WISDOM. He's supposed to know better, supposed to be the smartest, most clever of the mortals, and then he goes and fucking DOXXES himself to the cyclops in a mix of arrogance and pettiness. He didn't use his head, he acted on impulse, acted on arrogance, and the consequences for that are soon to follow.

ElusiveViper

one of my favourite parts of epic is all of call backs and references to older song both musically and lyrically to highlight that a lot of things that go wrong later can be tracked back to this specific moment in the musical such as when Athena is telling him one day he will understand after Odysseus tells her she is alone she throws just a man back in his face as that was his excuse for killing hectors son basically saying you understood then what is the issue now.

Saiyasha

Odysseus. The Dumbest Smart boy in all of Greece. He is a cocky MF the whole way and it bites him in the butt _a lot._

Alexis Cardillo

Yeah, Ody giving his real name and address pretty much sets up everything that happens from here on out. Idiot. My favs of this saga is the first two, especially with these animatics for it. Without spoiling anything come back to this cyclops design after the next saga

LikeCat

Given what the fatal flaw of Athena's kids is (Hubris) it checks that she would take a likeing to a mortal with a similar „attitude" to her kids.

Mennah Ibrahim

The creator of epic, Jorge Rivera-Herrans, is also the voice of odysseus. He is insanely talented

Alex SaLee

Deadass SO excited you're listening to Epic-- I upgraded my patreon subscription just for it! This musical is one of my favorites-- and I've even made an animatic for it myself! (I took a very different approach on designs- so it's in no way a good watch for your first go of Epic) But I've also spent a lot of time putting together my own playlist as well! If you moderator would like it for reference, here it is! https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLh74Sww8vC0sOXvtIRPhX7w_vmwSDA-fz&si=T9oMRzUkyJPf1bYd

Alex SaLee

Also-- Yeah Ody's decision to dox himself is in fact, stupid asf- but honestly in context I think it's a very realistic and human mistake for him to make. He just lost his best friend, and is wracked with grief. You don't tend to make the best decisions in that situation--

Zora Brightwood

A really cool detail about the music is that with Ody's ensemble it's made up of the members of his crew. With any of the gods they make their own ensemble bc they are gods with great powers.

Phoenix_mercury

Athena is one of the virgin goddesses, she doesn't have kids

Phoenix_mercury

He would have, *if* Athena hadn't shown up, berated him, blamed him for his best friend's death all whilst having just witnessed said friends death minutes ago and is obviously grieving. He was literally leaving till she stopped him

Nixx

Pls react to Illium when it comes out !!! 🥹 AND MY LIFE IS YOURSS❗️❗️

Theking

GOSH IM SO EXCITED FOR YOU TOO REACT TO THESE!!! gosh! Seriously one of my favorite pieces of media ever, im so excited for your reactions to some of the characters, ESPECIALLY next saga👀 I do wanna say to whoever picks your animatics, be careful PLS some cut song parts out, like Neal illustration she is amazing and one of the best animators out there, but she cuts parts of songs, so be aware of that, still though she deserves a watch, they are some of the best animatics out

The Feywild

Fun fact, Mircsy's design for Polyphemus is meant to more directly show his relation to his father, who I can say now that you've seen the whole thing, Poseidon. His equine legs are a reference to Poseidon being the god of horses, and his head is reminiscent of a crustacean as a reference to Poseidon being the god of the sea.

Drexcy

You mentioned that the classic design of a cyclops was not really that scary to you. Really it never was meant to be scary. The ancient Greeks only saw them as "bad" creatures because they were these outsiders who didn't follow their rules of hospitality called Xenia. In Ancient Greece, if someone ends up at your door, you're expected to help them, feed them, and ensure they are prepared to set off again and they are expected to respect you and so on. The cyclops didn't do any of that and in the original, Polyphemus attacked unprovoked.

Rixec2

Hubris is the fall of many a man, and Odysseus is no exception. He is smart, but he was emotional, needing some catharsis, and thought there was no way for the cyclops to do anything more. It was a reasonable thing to think. But it led to tragedy all the same.

PinkClouds94

Mircsy's take on the cyclops is my absolute favorite of all the animatics I've seen. It's the only one that inspired genuine fear in me. I also like that they used the older recordings of the songs with polyphemus bc his voice in the older versions sounds more conversational and accurate to how a person would sound/react in that situation, where the newer version sounds like he's just menacing for menacing's sake. He wasn't curious and then sad and then angry like in the old one, he just starts out angry, and I feel like that takes away a lot from the experience. Shame he had to re-record it for some legal purposes.
