Meanwhile Percy: DAD!? OMGs... Why? - Posaidon: I was in a bad mood back then.

EDHPlayer

It wasn’t a storm that kept Odysseus and his men from Ithaca, it was that three of the four winds didn’t exact favor him, which got stuffed inside the wind bag by Aeolus. Home was in sight when someone - and it’s important to note that NO ONE WAS EVER NAMED - opened the wind bag, releasing the three winds which sent all the ships back to Aeolus. They were then shooed away as this was a clear indication that the men of Ithaca were cursed. What destroyed a majority of the crew and ships were in fact the cannibalistic giants known as the Laestrygonians, not Poseidon. As stated in my comment on the TROY SAGA, none of the Olympians interacted with mortals in The Odyssey without a disguise, save for Hermes.

Dragon0921

Man I was really hoping it was going to be Anniflamma's animatic for Ruthlessness! Neal Illustrator's work is legendary, of course, but I like a lot of the visual choices Anni made with her animatic a bit more. Hopefully you'll go back and check out other animatics of songs you listened to in the future!

Verdant Crown

Odysseus made excuses, but he never apologized.

Rupert Anderson Jr

Odysseus' apology has the "I'm sorry you feel that way" vibe. His pride and arrogance as a king/captain won't allow him to own up to his mistakes.

Storm: So, another track that I don't listen to often but it is a very atmospheric transition song. Luck Runs Out: A little bit of a both sides have point here situation. Like, Ody did make it through ten years of war without losing anyone, and he is their king and captain. But now that they have lost men, and not only is Ody mourning but so is Eury and the rest of the men, I can see some doubt being brought into it. And Eury's job as first mate is to kind of balance out Ody's decisions.... he just needed to not do that in front of the crew and make everyone else think it was cool to doubt him. Bad decisions all around. Keep Your Friends Close: My favorite song of this saga. I love Kira Stone's voice, perfect fit for our wonderful wind god. Also Gigi spin shot! Yay! Ruthlessness: I mean, what is there to really say about this one. Stephen's voice is so freakin good. The song itself is an absolute banger. Neal's animatic is ridiculous. I'd also recommend checking out Anniflamma and Gigi's animatics. All around it's really cool seeing different interpretations of this song. I'm under no illusion that Poseidon was going to spare them regardless of what Ody said (and yes, I'm aware that in ancient Greece it was more about making your case than saying 'I'm sorry') but Ody. My guy. That was some weak sauce apology! Next saga is my favorite of Act 1! See ya then!

Gihellcy

Ody n°1 issue : He's bad at saying sorry-

Aiden N.

I just know she's going to like the next saga no sapphic can resist Circe lol

Raine

Ruthlessness is one of my favorite songs from the whole musical. I'm so glad you're enjoying Epic! It just keeps getting good, I'm sure you'll enjoy the next sagas as well. Can't wait for the reaction!

Theking

YES!!! gosh i cannot wait for... certain characters👀 Also just too clarify, Aoelus is NOT nonbinary in the musical, she is just genderswapped, however alot of people headcanon that she is non-binary, and there's obviously nothing wrong with that

tapdisneyintome

I just adore Ruthlessness - banger of a tune with masterful vocals. Still, next saga we get to meet my 2 favourite characters - I think you'll like them both too.

jessie H

Next saga is my favorite. The songs and Circe The ‘What? saga’ continues to be hilarious

SharkMessiah101

So, whos ready for her to meet that character next time!

Adrian

Poseidon: If you apologize then I might let this go. Odysseus: *Explains, justifies, and excuses what he did. Does not apologize" Poseidon: Death it is, then. But I fucking love Neal's animatics for Epic. These are such top-tier designs and animation.

Symbolic Remnant

And what’s more, they were the exact wrong kind of excuses. To the Mycenaeans, death in battle was seen as far preferable to life with disability. What Odysseus did is mercy by our modern Christian/Post-Christian Standards, but cruelty by the metrics of most Indo-European paganisms.

Alexis Cardillo

Yeah Ody didn't lose of his men during the war, he just started losing them trying to get home, though again if he didn't doxx himself a lot of what happens wouldn't have! Agreed there just isn't a bad song, everyone is bangers, but of the first 3 cycles is my fav too. Very excited to the reaction to the next saga and a certain character

Saiyasha

There is a fun detail I that Jorge himself admits he got wrong: Aeolus island is described as 'floating' in the odysee. What that means is just that it's not anchored to the ocean floor, so it changes positions. jorge misunderstood and though 'floating' meant 'in the air' and thus we got Laputa instead of the Aoelan Isles XDDD

Zora Brightwood

The ocean saga is so good I always jam to keep your friends close and ruthlessness. The next saga tho is my all time fave i jam to every song in that one. Also the singers behind Athena and Poseidon are named Teagan AKA TE/MO on Spotify and Steven Rodriguez. I am especially a fan of Teagan's Lovers Reversed Album its so good.

Dark Danny

Gigi and Neal have my favorite animatics

Henry

Odysseus: All I gotta do is open this bag!!!😀😀😀

ConnorH265

So to explain the men who died by the cyclops was after the war he still took 600 men to war and none of them died during the war they died after

Saiyasha

The one thing about the way Eurylochous is confronting Ody is that he does it in front of the crew. As the second in command, it _is_ his right and duty to question the captain and make sure whatever decision he makes is for the benefit of all. But you do that in private and afterwards, you present a united front to your people. Doing it in front of the crew undermines Odysseus, which thenlater leads to the men not trusting him enough and opening the bag. Eury's concerns were valid, but he went about teh confrontation the wrong way.

Saiyasha

I know the male form isn't your speed, But Poseidon was so hot, he put Mortius and Capser in a full gay panic and it was funny enough that the maker of this specific Animatic, Neal Illustrator made an animated skit out of it XDDDDDD

Henkotron

"Cool" is such an extremely calm password for what you usually use

Phoenix_mercury

On the flip side however eury is *literally* the voice of the crew, the crew already was distrusting Ody so they(through eury) spoke up about it, Ody's was of going about shutting him(and by proxy the crew) down was sketchy af, telling him/them to shut up and obey, literally using the word "devout" which is something usually used for gods/goddesses

Phoenix_mercury

Ody: gets 600 men through a 10 year war Also Ody: immediately starts losing them on the way home🤣

Phoenix_mercury

Tbf a character that's(in epic) basically wind isn't exactly the most binary of characters considering they can change like the wind(literally)🤷

Phoenix_mercury

Apology? What's that? - Odysseyus probably 🤣

Phoenix_mercury

What wet Hades was *likely* looking for "yes I was wrong, I shouldn't have said my name or left him alive, that was stupid of me" *not* spouting bs lies "we just wanted to escape we meant no harm" my dude, you bragged! You literally yelled your name after telling him your neither man nor mythical and where you live! You think he wouldn't tell his father what the person who blinded him, left him in pain and boasted about it said? Dumbest smart boy🤦

Phoenix_mercury

Considering he blinded him with his own club that'd been turned into a spear then boasted after leaving him in agony? No shot he and his father are pissed, Cyclopes are already "othered" add that poly is now a blind one eyed individual(considering the medical practices weren't exactly top notch, especially for a Cyclops...)

Phoenix_mercury

In epic it's the storm, aeolus' cut song yes had it the same as the odyssey but that song is cut thus it's the storm that gets put in the bag, just like how in epic Poseidon kills the crew(the giants are the backing vocals tho), and Athena clearly interacts with Ody without a disguise *in epic*, maybe think about noting that your not talking about epic so as to reduce possible confusion for those not in the know

JustMonika

i agree that ody isnt a perfect character... but everything they go through isnt just his fault. the crew... his crew is... they be dumb too.

Theking

That is very true☝️😌❤️

swan

Please when you react to Thunderbringer and gods games react to Neal’s animatics, they are so good

Phoenix_mercury

theirs an army officer going through epic too and he put it perfectly "as the leader whatever happens(or doesnt happen) is on the leader"

Dark Danny

She's reacting to the same playlist as Morgan reacts and they have a link in their description. Neal's Thunder bringer is part of the Playlist, can't remember if God games is

Alex SaLee

You got to my favorite song! I loveeeee Ruthlessness I had barely remembered The Odyssey when I experienced the musical for the first time and damn was it a gut punch! I also love Poseidon's VA

WishingEel

"Don't start a war against the gods," is stellar advice that a certain someone from RWBY could have used as well lol

The Glacial Arcana of Kassandra Vexus

yeah but when your leader tells you NO and you do it anyway that the fault is not on the leader as he told you not to do something and you do it anyways. like in the musical ody litterally says to listen to him and the crew will make it home alive.... and the crew didn't listen no tonce but twice. if i recall when they opened the bag they were litterally in sight of home.

The Glacial Arcana of Kassandra Vexus

I mean yes Ody should have shut up but with emotions running high that is kinda impossible. i honestly blame the crew because they opened the bag when they were so close to home that they could see it. like if your leader who just so happens to be king tells you not to do something and why and you do so anyways you deserve what happens to you. so i fully blame Eury (idk how to spell his full name). And like i know it is said that Ody was somewhat arogant but like he is the captian and king so you have to listen.... and no one died during the war so they should have listened, they only died because of the cyclope and their own fault of opening the damn bag. and later (since you already have reacted to thunder saga) killing the cow that they were told not to.

Boozombie

I do think youre making the mistake of judging this Ody for the actual Greek Homer Ody. Epic's version is flawed, but he's a far kinder version of the character and does deserve to have his actions judged on the musicals depictions and not your memories of the original Greek.

Justin Prass

About Aeolas, the god in mythology is a male however the female that voiced him was the creator's favorite take on Aeolas' voice and thus female voice, fun facts (always love a good gender bend)

Rixec2

Ody made a big mistake with the cyclops, but the crew also made a huge mistake that got more killed. They were worried about the gods yet were willing to open the bag of "treasure." They weren't loyal enough to listen, especially since they almost made it home. And what makes Poseidon so terrifying is that he's less upset over Ody telling the cyclops his name and more that he didn't kill him. Instead of letting the cyclops die with honor he had to live with the shame of being crippled. Hence, ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves.

SkybiGemini

This is a completely fair take. There is a man, Lyle I think is his name, who has a YT channel called "Patrol Nation." He has a great memory of the original Homer's Odyssey, and he talks about it in contrast to the music. He goes into great detail what Homer's Ody does as well, and points out the artistic creativity that the musical takes.
