Red Demonica

Oh boy, been waiting for this one! 🤩

LaviPastelQueen

Yayy always excited for these rwby Fridays 🥰❣️

LikeCat

That reaction to Saphron's „And this is my wife, Terracotta" was EXACTLY what I was hopeing for. It is such an out of left field (but such a welcome) comment, and I love that you lost your shit over it... I love when Sapphics relationships are just THERE, not turned into a big thing or the main focus of a show/ episode (when it isn't with main characters)

Dre

Maria is the original Qrow is the cover Ruby is the remix

Dreanner95

Jaune has seven sisters and this picture was of him and all those sisters.

EDHPlayer

My favorite Grimm: the support class. They are weak and unimpressive, but their powers seem perfect for being paired with other Grimm that are more aggressive. Sapping away at the will to fight, to resist, is something you don’t want to face on a battlefield

BrightHeart

So fun fact Saphron allusion is the ancient greek poet Sappho aka the originator of the word Sapphic.

Lucifer_Crowe

it's interesting you mentioned Dragon Prince! because to me it has all the issues people accused RWBY of having for years. Where it kinda becomes so confused after S3 to me TDP 1-3 had tighter writing than RWBY (though RWBY is still always gonna be my personal favourite for many reasons) but after that I wasn't really enjoying it at all I think in writing, RWBY benefits from not really having backseat writers/a board of directors telling the writers what to do, so even when it's clumsy it comes straight from the heart. (we'll see if Viz changes that, which I hope isn't the case)

ActualBampot

"Why the little look at the end though?" Don't forget that Weiss' mom is also an alcoholic. She talked to Yang about it in Volume 5. Also, Neo is 4ft 11, Cinder is 5ft 11. Their ship is called Spicecream. Do with that information what you like. 🤣

Flufux

So some notes here: the reason for Weiss' face when she burned the alcohol (as well as her rage when doing it) was her thinking about her mother's alcohol problems (which were mentioned in volume 5). Tock, the faunus assassin who took out Maria's eyes is actually a crocodile faunus, not a piranha faunus, and is based on the crocodile from Peter Pan...hence the clock. Her semblance was that she could make herself invincible for an exact minute then lose her aura afterwards. Maria's scream when she lost her eyes was amplified by the fact that her voice actress was heavily pregnant and like days away from giving birth, so she channeled the pain of that experience into that scream. Oh, and both young and old Maria have the same voice actress. Jaune's sister Saphron's name is straight up based on Sappho, the woman who was the reason the words 'sapphic' and 'lesbian' even exists...and many of her poems were written on terracotta...which is why Saphron's wife's name is Terra Cotta.

Ep 6: The Apathy were partially inspired by the story of Bartleby the Scrivener. To sum it up, it's a story about a man that became so apathetic to the world that he refused to eat or drink or move, stating that he'd "prefer not to" until he died. It was revealed by the writers that these Grimm were supposed to have made an appearance back in V1 but were deemed too powerful for that time in the show. They kept getting pushed back until, finally, V6. They seemed to have been made for this moment, in all honesty. Our heroes are at a severe low point. Their ability to trust Oz not to lie to them has been reduced to nothing (and he's abandoned them), they just found out their final boss is immortal. Their morale is completely shot. They have no other objective than to get the Lamp to Atlas, which to them in this moment seems so pointless after learning the truth. "Delaying the inevitable," Oscar calls it. It's such a perfect time for these new Grimm, that it wouldn't be unusual to not second guess the fact that they're all Tired (the use of ‘I’m tired’ was their version of ‘I’d prefer not to’) and questioning why they must do all this. But as the scene outside the house goes on, we get more on edge. The music comes back in with these strings, and the characters' pupils are blown and dull, and their voices become more and more lifeless until even Ruby starts to succumb. I also just love Maria’s line about how “No one was angry or sad or scared. No one was anything. Then… no one was left.” Like…That is one of my favorite lines of dialogue throughout this show because of just how simple and terrifying it is. God I just really love this episode and I love these Grimm. Crwby really blew it out of the park with this one. Also, to be fair, Yang just almost saw Blake get skewered by the Apathy, so she was probably just making sure that couldn't happen again. But also... Bees. So. Ep 7: Maria using Gravity Dust in her weapons is so cool. Like, man her fighting style was crazy. What a badass. Our lovely little bounty hunter here was named Tock (based off the Tick Tock Crocodile from Peter Pan) and her semblance was to be basically invulnerable for 60 seconds. It’s like having a heavy-duty reinforced aura (normal aura keeps you from taking damage, but you still feel a lot of the impact and can even be knocked unconscious. With Tock’s semblance everything basically just ricocheted off her). The downside is that once those 60 seconds are up her aura will be completely depleted. High Risk. Usually High Reward…. Until Maria managed to decapitate her with her eyes closed. ….Too soon? Geez I’ve missed JNR. Glad our kids are all back together. Also meeting Saphron and her wife Terra is just precious. They seem like a cute little family. I will always laugh at the Arc Family photo though. Poor Jaune with his little Help sign surrounded by all seven of his chaos sisters.

Evil Queen

Been patiently waiting for this volume and loving every minute of the reactions, another great reaction! These are my go to in the morning with coffee now 😁

Karel Hill

Look at their pupils.

Solus

Another great reaction, by the way the reptilian Faunus that attacked Maria is a reference to the Crocodile from Peter Pan and Captain Hook with the clock, I think her official name is Tock, also if you ever get a chance, I think you would like an art style called RWBY 3.0, a fan artists to the show made these and it is really good, my two favorite designs are of Ruby Rose and Neopolitan 3.0 design, these two individuals did and amazing job on their alternate take to the RWBY universe, if anyone else hasn't ever seen this art, check it out, they are several years old though.

LaviPastelQueen

Also my favorite Grimm has cometh as well and yes the saphiccs love them I personally really love the bees schnees ship yangxblakexweiss but I also like really love freezerburn (Weissx yang) and bumblebee (blakexyang) though I do already know what the outcome is so far since I'm caught up in the show.

Martin E Melcher

Im so excited for this bit of the volume. Though....we will be reminded of pain soon. I hear the music i will cry

Rando

I surprised she went with that for the thumbnail lol. But her reaction to Saph/Terra is one i have been looking forward to since she started the show, and she delivered! I wonder if she would consider watching the final four episodes of this season in one sitting. Its essentially one big season finale anyway

Rachel Mae

Love love love the Apathy arc it’s such a nice neatly little contained story in itself and crwby gets to flex their horror writing skills which they’re extremely good at. The artist who came up with the Apathy’s designs was actually a fan of the show first who went on to work on the show. She has prints of a few of her rwby pieces on her imprnt shop. I gotta get the one I bought framed 😅 “Especially when some of you are stronger already” and the shot focuses on Yang with Blake in the background yuppp. Blake herself is the one who said Yang embodies the word strength but since she’s been back she’s been coddling Yang just a bit bc she feels bad about everything. I don’t even think she realized until this moment right there It’s Saphron’s fault that I always spell saffron the spice wrong these days 😅 but crwby was honestly very clever with both the mythological allusion and color reference for her name Edit: idk why I said mythological sappho was a real ass person 🫠🤦

SPIDERVERSE 2000

I knew you were gonna flip out about Saphron and her "Wife" Terra. And I agree with you, I approve them. I approve the relationship and how cute they are.

Phoenix_mercury

Also the allusion of "I'm tired" to "I'm done"👀

Phoenix_mercury

Yeah that had to be so cathartic for Weiss!

Phoenix_mercury

Yeah just a "oh hey u haven't met X yet, this is how they're relevant, ok now continue" 😁

FullmetalNinja25

Tock the "Pirahna" faunus (She's actually a Crocodile) is based upon the Crocodile from Peter Pan. Her whole "1 minute" thing is based upon the fact they only had enough budget left in the Volume for a 1 minute fight scene this Episode so decided to write it into the Episode as her semblance which is basically she's invulnerable for 1 minute.

Dre

Chapter 6 • I love The Apathy. They were a really clever way to externalize the characters’ internal conflict over finding out the truth about Oz and Salem. Their actual misery is mixed in with the monsters’ powers and the lines get really blurred. The conflict with The Apathy was also a good way to restore their resolve about the ultimate task. They really could have just left the lamp behind, given up the war against Salem, and just gone on to be regular Huntsmen. • Your reaction to Yang grabbing Blake’s hand was exactly what I expected. You catch details that some people miss so I knew you would notice that and be happy because of it haha. • Weiss brings the Team RWBY arson count up to 2! Just need Ruby and Yang to do some arson themselves. Chapter 7 • Fun fact about Maria’s VA! Melissa Sternenberg, said VA, was pregnant when she recorded the bulk of Maria’s lines. So that means she likely did that very impressive scream while carrying a baby. • Argus is a really cool city. Love the San Francisco influence. • Your reaction to Saffron and Terracotta is something I’ve been waiting for since you started volume 1. Did not disappoint! Those two are so wholesome and cute together. Kinda surprised them holding hands didn’t end up being the thumbnail. :0

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

The Apathy are often talked about with the Nuckelavee (the boss Grimm at the end of Vol. 4) in terms of being the scariest Grimm yet shown. The big difference of course is that the Nuckelavee is terrifying in a high-adrenaline, bring-me-my-brown-pants kind of way, while the Apathy fill one's soul with absolute dread.

Cathy Breuer

Yaaay! I saved up last week's as well, so I've got a double DOUBLE feature to enjoy!

.

oOH, I actually never caught that. That's so interesting!

Jason S

Easter Egg: The number on the back of the trolley car in chapter 7 is the date the episode first aired.

LikeCat

I knew about her Semblance part, but did not knew about the „Why they did it" part... I always thought that the idea for her powers came from her inspiration, NOT from budget reasons. And given what happens this Volume (fight vise) I cannot blame them for making this short.

The Laughing Man

Ahh so you have finally met Tock, the crocodile faunus (based off of the crocodile in Peter Pan). That scream was everything during that scene, absolutely haunting and chilling to hear. Tock's semblance makes her invulnerable for 1 minute, which is why Maria couldn't really damage her and her attacks bounced off of her. However when that minute is up she is absolutely drained and vulnerable so it's a double edged sword.

RetroBeastto

This was the episode I’ve been waiting to see your reaction to with Saphron and Terracotta as wives. Just such a whole and sweet moment when I first saw it.

Aiden N.

This show really does get better and better 😁

CrowOfAFeather

Ever since you started V6 I've been counting down the weeks for ch7! I knew your reaction to Saphron and Terra wouldn't disappoint lol! Tock is one of my favourite characters in terms of designs, and while I can understand why she was a piranha because of her teeth, she's actually a crocodile with said skin. Her teeth are of metal that she added to look scarier lol Can't wait to see you continue this volume and series, so many scenes I'm dying to see you react to! Keep up the great work! Edit: fun fact, CRWBY were told that the fightscene in ch7 could only be about a minute long, so they came up with the idea of literally making it last 60 seconds because of Tock's Semblance: having an unbreakable Aura for exactly that long, hence the clock. So for 60 seconds she was invulnerable and thus could be as wild and reckless in the fight!

Isadora

The storage is where Yang put the love of her life--I mean, her bike.

Ryan

Crow mentioned back in season 4 that his semblance is passive bad luck ... I wonder when he realized that, and which came first; the alcohol, or the semblance. It's hard to know in the moment what I would do with the relic because something about this place is clearly affecting them. I've fought with depression and anxiety my whole life, which has given me an attitude of "you have to keep going, because what other choice is there?" So even if the odds seem impossible, in a world where I was a Huntsman, I think I would keep trying to whatever end. After all, entropy wins in the end. If Elijah reacts this much to Blake and Yang holding hands, we should start a fundraiser to replace her chair. Just in case... Add the Grimm Reaper to the roster of "awesome characters that we only get for five minutes but have wicked cosplay potential." Elijah can have some canon domestic sapphics, as a treat.

PhoenixVoyager

I don't know if you've mentioned it in other past RWBY reactions but a very subtle thing is if you notice, Oscar had taken on more of Oz's mannerisms. Hands behind his back walking, talking with his cane in hand in the past. It's something that after I noticed it, I always kept an eye on it.

SportySpice

Volume 6 is just so…competent. The arcs, the fights, the detours, the ambient world-building. It’s just so GOOD. Seeing the crew mature over the volumes - from the writing to the production to the animation - is such a treat.

Vince

RIGHT as you said “what are you, neurodivergent?” I said “Leave her alone, she’s stimming!” 😂😂😂 that was beautiful

Kiesen

Pacing in my enclosure because we are getting so close to the episodes from this volume I really want you to see: - Lmao yeah there sure is merch with spoilers in the shop. I'm sure you'll love to buy it once you can see it. - "Always thinking of new schemes to overcome the odds" and then Ruby walks in - I don't think you know just how much us RWBY fans appreciate you giving the series the credit it deserves. It's been viciously hated and misinterpreted for years because people consider it "cringe" and don't want to engage in the work genuinely. It's so refreshing to see someone noticing all these details and actually fucking thinking about why the writers included them. It shatters all the disingenuous arguments that the hatedom throws out on repeat. - I think the Apathy are the visually creepiest Grimm in the series tbh. They're not the most disturbing story wise, but they are so unnerving to look at. - God you are locked the fuck on with Blake and Yang. I never noticed they were holding hands in that scene. Now I can't unsee it. - This was the first time in the series I had to pause the episode and sit there in utter shock because holy shit. The implication is absolutely terrifying. People becoming so apathetic they laid down, withered away, and died. As you said, it kind of is an embodiment of depression in some aspects? Anybody who's become seriously depressed knows what it's like to get that low- I sure do. Definitely added to the chills I got. - They actually foreshadowed Maria having silver eyes in the intro. You see it zoom into her mechanical eyes before going into a headshot of Ruby. - Lmao you are not alone in the Neo thirst. I'm friends with someone who is incredibly down bad for her. - Neo is soooo small. Cinder is above average, especially in heels, but she is not huge (though she'd probably love to be). Neo specifically is 4'10 in heels and Cinder is 5'11 in heels. - I have some very lengthy commentary about the choice of Maria's title and design being paired with her having silver eyes, but I'll save that for an episode later on in this volume. - Multiple people are probably gonna say this, but Tock's semblance (60 seconds of invulnerability) was based around the fact that they were only allowed 60 seconds for this fight scene. - Here's one of the few moments of gore we get in RWBY and it hits hard as FUCK. They know how to make blood spilling so visceral. - Maria's VA is the same across both her younger and older self. Her VA is just good at putting on a generic old woman voice. - You gotta respect them waiting this long to name a character "The Grimm Reaper." - The score they play as they crest the hill is the opening's leitmotif! - Argus is very much based on San Francisco. Nice catch lmao. - Jaune and his sisters all represent a different color of the rainbow (minus the twins, I think they're the same color). Very fitting for a gay character like Saphron lmao.

Eric Smith

Forgive me mother, I cannot weave. Aphrodite has struck me with GAE.

wallkettle

We're six volumes in, and team RWBY has collectively commited arson 3 times. Its not a significant number, but its weird that Weiss did it twice.

Eric Smith

Yeah both named Arcs keep throwing me off too lol. "Fairy tale allusion" oh wait no that's an actual French girl and a a Greek woman

Ray Knight

I really love how, even though ruby is the one affected by qrows alcoholism because she's his family and close to him, they also gave Weiss her moments to quietly process it herself -- when you were wondering why Weiss has a little look when lighting the apathy on fire, it's because weiss' mom also deals with alcoholism (something she talks about with yang in v5). So it's really such a nice detail that they also showed weiss processing that trauma in little understated moments.

Dark Danny

I liked volume 4 and the journey. I loved volume 6, just had a few nitpicks that kind of become bigger issues in later volumes but it's still good in my opinion, it never gets as bad as Dragon Prince

Eric Smith

I'm pretty sure his semblance was known at a younger age than even the Branwen Tribe would allow drinking

Theking

YES!! FINALLY WE GET TO SEE MARIA!! easily one of my favorite characters in RWBY With one of the coolest plays on a name

Kitsune Kokoro

"Why is [Neo] so little?" She's pint-sized, of course ;)

SportySpice

At one point “That’s where you end it!?!?!” is going to result in “…okay, maybe one more episode” and just know we fully support you in that.

RenaissanceM

I was so focused on Bumblebee, I’d completely blanked on Saphron & Terra Cotta. 😂🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈 Your reaction is glorious as always. 🤣👍

RenaissanceM

Who else is not prepared for the emotional impact of episodes 8……and 9……I’ve seen it several times and it still breaks me every time……😭😭😭

Natasha Grimm

My favorite part about the Cotta-Arcs is how much of a big deal they AREN'T. There was no fanfare, no characters made a big thing about it, the show didn't even treat it like a big reveal. We were introduced to them like we would have been to any other characters, treated as the perfectly normal couple that they are, and I love that.

Octavia

This has been the day we've waited for. Saphron and Terra are delightful

Cali Jester

Editors, hit the confetti and the fireworks

Christopher Herrera

Why do you care about the intro (obviously a joke) you only listen to it once then skip it for the rest of the volume

Ryan

Then the question is ... does the drinking help damp his semblance, or just a coping mechanism for all of the shit he's been through?

Nektis Noir

Figured we should point out not everyone who has silver eyes is related. They're likely descended from a common ancestor, sure, but it's a rare supernatural trait. It's not necessarily a hereditary one like Weiss's semblance lol. Marias semblance isn't the purple attraction in her glaives. That's just her using her gravity dust. Her semblance will be revealed at a later time. Weiss's sad look when burning the alcohol is because, like Ruby, she too has trauma with family drowning in alcohol abuse (her mother, she mentioned this last volume). Tock is actually not a piranha Faunus. She's a crocodile Faunus and is based off the Neverland crocodile from Peter Pan. Her semblance is that she can make her Aura invulnerable to literally any hit for 60 seconds but once that's up, it instantly breaks. That's why she said it was a close call when she'd blinded Maria only a few seconds before the clock went off.

Kyle Hennett

One, Maria’s Scythes contain Gravity Dust allowing her to manipulate them like that. Second, The Faunus that attacks her is actually a Crocodile Faunus based on the Crocodile from Peter Pan because her name is Tick Tock. And Tick Tock semblance is invulnerability but for only 60 seconds, and if you count the time from when she starts her clock to the point where she cuts Maria’s Eyes.

Ben Disney

Oh my, are we getting simping for both Cinder AND Neo now? I don't know if you're going to survive, Elijah! We're going to be seeing them together a LOT!!!

pneuma163

> I don't think you know just how much us RWBY fans appreciate you giving the series the credit deserves. yeah, seriously. Elijah keeps noticing the things the show *actually* does and how well it does those things. > You gotta respect them waiting this long to name a character "The Grimm Reaper." Well we did also get our first "once upon a time" and "the brother(')s grimm" this volume, so they're just having fun now, lol

Lord_Chozo

And Blake has uncoupled trains three times. Well, intended to - the second time the train car uncoupled itself.

Nektis Noir

It's just Tock. There's no Tick in her name lol

pneuma163

I haven't seen anyone highlight the code Yang uses, 458, to lock up her bike. I assume plenty of you are old enough to remember old push button phones and maybe even texting on them. Anyway, for the sake of "leaving it as an exercise to the reader" I'll leave it at that :) Also, I always appreciate that the shots of Saphron and Terra together highlight their wedding rings.

Eric Smith

The fact that the team on RWBY Chibi wanted to use that as a joke and Miles and Kerry had to be like "wait no don't do that we're using it for an awesome old lady that hasn't shown up yet" will always be funny to me.

Eric Smith

Fun fact about them waiting to use "the Grimm Reaper": the writers for Chibi were going to use it as a joke and Miles and Kerry had to tell them not to because they were saving it for here

Jittercritter

1st of all: it made perfect sense, Elijah. We understand completely 2nd: OMG I never noticed but when they reunite, Blake does the cat head bump to Jaune?!?! OMG THATS SO CUUUUUTE!!! She and her mom did it to Ghira but I thought that was the only time 🥹 the fact that she feels comfortable to do that to a human in public… she’s come so far I love her 3rd: I’ve always loved the detail that it was the 2 older siblings who thought the baby was adorable. We know that Yang basically raised Ruby so it’s unsurprising from her, but it makes you wonder what Weiss initial reaction to her little brother was and when things started going south

Enchanted_Echo

(Sorry if this is a bit much I just have a lot of thoughts and am enjoying your reaction to RWBY and din't want to mixing things up). 1. I am very happy that you got the word to stay away from the store because of spoiler reasons because when I saw you grab some merch from before and the Yang shirt I can’t lie and say I wasn’t worried, but your mom was awesome for getting the cool stuff for you :D (I’m afraid your still banned until you catch up with the show) 2. (In my opinion) The Apathy are the scariest creatures of all of RWBY with how they’re not powerful in strength but are in the mind. And when they were all tired and debating about the lamp the conversation and your thought on it were fascinating BUT, the only thing that came to my mind was The Batman Riddler meme of “Does she know…….SHE DOESN’T KNOW!” because also if you look into the pupils of Weiss, Blake, and Yang they’re actually greyed out a small bit. 3. I really like your thoughts on Qrow and his alcohol issues and how real it feels into the real world as well they’re really fascinating epically with how they handle stuff like that in the show and I will say to mirror that I will admit Volume 4 is my least favorite of them all thus far (1-9), NOT THAT I HATE IT, it’s just because the separation and pacing was something to take a grasp on but I do understand why it was like that and I did enjoy it and story to view on the characters individually was something I really liked just it wasn’t one of my top favorites. 4. Your idea on to incapacitate Salem’s Grimm side with the silver eyes is very fascinating and not something that partially came to my mind because I’m not sure if that’d be enough or she would need to be pushed AGAIN into the lake of the god of light. And with that to find more on that of Maria, TOON IN NEXT EPISODE AT 1PM EST ON THE NEXT EPISODE OF RWBY-BALL Z (just keep watching the show, sorry I’m a nerd) 5. So, Cinder is a bit above average with her being 5’9 but she isn’t a giant compared to our Ice-Cream Short Queen because she is only………4’10 making her on the small side compared to everyone else. 6. So, I don’t know why you aren’t seeing the intros for the episodes because they should be there but that honestly isn’t too much of an issue and won’t create any problems UNTIL after the second half of Volume 8 and forward for certain aspects that you DO NEED to see. So not this second but at some point, you might want to see elsewhere to grab the episodes. 7. If you wonder about the block of trade routes in and out of the city and what’s going on in Atlus…….go back to Volume 4 with ALL of Ironwood scenes. 8. I have been waiting quite some time for your reaction to Saph…..you know…..the SAPHic and your reactions did not disappoint, and I am loving it and cannot wait for to see what comes next :D. and thank you for the notice of what an indigo child is it's quite fascinating P.S the fact you paused RIGHT BEFORE Maria lost her eyes for you geeking out about the looks of everything was nothing short but hilarious for me

Fred Smith

Hey, I got an indirect shoutout for the Merch thing! Go me! Yeah, it would have been REAL bad for her to see that...

LikeCat

I was like „why?" ... *Looking up the episodes* Oh... Right... That. (But in all seriousness I completely forgot that it happened in that episode - Maria Calavera being my absolute favorite character that is and we are NOT gonna talk about episode 9)

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Wow, I'm surprised that both of these episodes were reacted to this week, they;re both fairly long.

RenaissanceM

Lol yes, of course. We are certainly not going to speak about how out of every episode and emotional moment in all of RWBY media, volume 6 episode 9 is the one that has never once failed to bring me to tears……..nope! Not gonna talk about that at all!!!😁👍 I’m fine! We’re fine! Eeeeeverything’s fiiiiiine……..

Janice Marie Audio

See, the thing is, Ozpin asked the WRONG QUESTION. He asked “How do I DESTROY Salem,” not “How can I SAVE Salem.” Even then, this is a theory that a lot of the FNDM has come up with and subscribe to, me included.

Enchanted_Echo

So when I first watched RWBY and that question/scene came up that was the first thing that crossed my mind and I thought that I was alone in that because the discussion of RWBY from what I saw were about different areas but thanks to the NSAF's and the FNDM together here it makes me so happy to know I'm not the only one.

Janice Marie Audio

Yeah, and some think that maybe Ruby’s mom already tried that simply because of all the black veiny marks all over her skin, whereas back in The Lost Fable, when Salem was first corrupted, she didn’t have those

man-of-bvz1n3ss

And her wife Terra Cotta's name is an allusion to the terracotta shards that Sappho's poetry was inscribed on.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Weeell, those two aren't the ONLY Grimm to leave a major impact...

lumarie

I love how she had the same reaction to the gay in this show as she did with the gay in Dragon Prince with the “Your WHAT?!” *waves gay flag* lmao

wallkettle

It's the thought that counts

Ryan

Something gnawing at me after this latest display of silver eyes absolutely destroying some Grimm is that it is also a hard counter to the Maidens' powers. Which now that I think about it, makes sense. The God of Death called magic his gift to humanity, and the Grimm are also his creation...

Karmac

how does it counter maiden powers?

Eric Smith

I don't think it hard counters maiden powers. Cinder gained hers through that Grimm beetle thing she used on Amber, so she's the only maiden weak to Ruby's eyes

Ryan

Oh. That wasn't made clear in the text of the show...

Magikltrevr

Fun fact: Tock's semblance is 60 seconds of invulnerability. This actually came about because the crew were told they only had the budget for 60 seconds of fight animation so they cleverly made that time limit a part of the fight.

Karmac

ya stole the power with grimm bettle glove thing that i asume had salem magic too

CB Jones

From what I remember of the time (it was a while back) Miles & Kerry had said before that same-sex relationships were normalised in Remnant (and there was that brief shot of a faunus couple in Menagerie), but it was really great to actually see the normality of it shown on screen. I also appreciate that they give us a civilian point of view on our main cast, we don't get a whole lot of time spent with characters who aren't either huntresses or soldiers for one faction or another, it's almost novel to find someone with a normal job!

Special K

I cry every time

Hollyhock

More like punt-sized cuz i wanna punt her. Heh

Caleb Winningham

Knew you would lose it this episode with Saffron and Terra Cotta (both based on Sapho of Lesbos and the remnants of her poetry that made it to the modern day on terracotta pots.) The Apathy is one of my favorite Grimm. Also you asked why trade had stopped with Atlas/Argus and that's because as mentioned before Ironwood has closed the borders between Atlas and all other Kingdoms.

Aleviah

LOVING the reactions, as usual! I always thought RWBY just got better and better, and this volume was an amazing example of CRWBY doing what they do best. I can't wait to watch the rest of your reactions. I literally look forward to Fridays for this now lmao 😭 Keep theorizing and looking into details! It's not a waste of time—RWBY has a shit ton of foreshadowing, easter eggs, and hidden clues throughout the animation, dialogue, and music. Seemingly unimportant details might be more important than you think...or foreshadow something to come! It's one of my favorite parts of RWBY. Starting this volume, the animation increasingly improves so that there starts to be more nuances and small details in character movements and expressions. I can't wait to see next week's reactions!

Mare

Seems everyone has given the needed facts for this episode so here's some other kinds of Trivia unless someone already covered it. - You're definitely one of the few reactors (maybe the only one) that noticed Yang using the OLD Text Code before smart phones were a thing. "458' was the text code for "I Love You" back in the early days of cell phones that utilized Qwerty keyboards. - So Volume 6 (when it first broadcast) was the volume where I learned about the "Episode 6 Truthers" side of the fandom ( I think I learned this from the reactors at Xiao Long Media). I was curious what they had meant so I went back to PAST volumes with Episode 6 and FINALLY it dawned on me what that referred to. So That is something to look for I guess. Not gonna elaborate though. Just like I had to figure it out on my own, so shall you! LOL. But it will hit you like a ton of bricks. At least it did with me. - Also glad you took note of the Merchandise warnings we posted a few months back. Basically you would have needed to see the whole entire series before you can hit the online RWBY merch store LOL.

Cinder's Apologist

I was gonna bring that up in my comment cuz it's so cool XD also to add to that: Tock as in the crocodile that swallowed the clock in Peter Pan ;)

Cinder's Apologist

welcome to RWBY Does Horror! I may not be a horror fan but the Apathy episode is always so chilling and it is so well done. it truly is the epitome of despair for our heroes as well as a dark reminder of what happens when apathy (the feeling, not the grimm) takes over. also loving how eager Elijah is about the silver eyes and already theorizing :3 HELL YES SHORT QUEEN NEO!! ngl Neo being so fucking small is one of THE best things about her and what makes her so fun to play with in AUs. and for reference, she is literally 4 foot 10 according to height charts; for reference, Ruby is 5 foot 4 at least by later volumes, and yes Cinder is tall at roughly 5 foot 11 (with heels) as soon as we got to Argus, I realized that Elijah was gonna lose her mind over Saphron, though I didn't expect the full blown meltdown lmao. and fun fact! their names are Saphron and Terra-Cotta Arc... as in Saphron = Sappho and Terra-Cotta being a nod to the fragments of Sappho's poetry found on terra cotta or something. so yeah, they were not being subtle. AT ALL. really looking forward to the next set of - well actually, just the remainder of this volume :3

Cinder's Apologist

oh damn... I have never heard that before, but I love it. the fun thing about this show is realizing that word choice is VERY deliberate, and especially when you ask a question of a being like JInn, that word choice means everything.

Arashi

Even beyond 'saving' Salem, He asked 'How can I destroy Salem'. 'You can't.' That could mean Oz (specifically) will not be able to Destroy (specifically) Salem. Even then, 'can't' could be that the action wouldn't work, or that Oz wouldn't be able to bring himself to do it.

Connor Hines

I like the through line of Ruby and Maria being less affected by the Apathy.

Arashi

Ah... while Nikki the Nukalevee is horrifying to look at, the Apathy are just straight terrifying. Still one of the scariest scenes in the series is Blake just laying down, a crowd of Grimm approaching behind her and she just says 'It's fine.' We get it, though I think the word you were after was 'embodiment'. Neo's height (or lack there of) was shown, if briefly, in Volume 2 No Brakes when she was squaring up to fight (read: beat on) Yang. Neo's head barely topped Yang's yangs. ;) "It's also a gun!" They have pretty much embraced the meme by this point. The sword is a gun! The robot is a gun! The girl is a gun! The GUN is a GUN! Tock is actually a crocodile faunus. Based off the crocodile in Peter Pan who swallowed a clock and was hunting Captain Hook. And the Terra reveal was just as I hoped for. :D

Crow

Wait hold up, what’s the “Episode 6 Truthers”??

Crow

Maybe unpopular opinion but I don’t want Salem to be redeemed or “saved” or stuff like that

LikeCat

Given corrent stuff (Vol 7 and beyond - Mainly Vol 9) I don't know what CRWBY wants to do with her... At least Vol 10 WILL happen someday

Mare

“Episode 6 Truthers” are believers in something significant (to certain characters) occurring in ALMOST every Volume’s “episode 6.” I can’t elaborate because of spoilers.

Lazy Griffin

I was just waiting for Elijah's reaction to Saphron and Terra. She responded as expected. Glorious! The other thing I wanted to say is did anyone else realize that the Apathy affected Blake so bad she stopped breathing? Scary stuff. The two episodes surrounding the Apathy are some of the best written in the series I think.

Hollyhock

I really appreciate and agree with your sentiment on volume 4 and rwby's writing choices. I think the slower pace of volume 4 and the focus it allows on each character's way of coping with their trauma really adds to making the fall of beacon the devastating, world shattering event that it was. There was no easy coming back from it.

LikeCat

It is STILL 6 Volumes later one of THE big things in the shows history... With storybeats like Unkillable ancient Witch (Salem) and Gods it is insane that the Volume 3 finale is still a big thing (as it rightfully should be)

Hollyhock

Dedicating so much of the show to the fallout was a big gamble but imo it makes the show so much better

Hollyhock

"Not long enough!" Is what i assume Elijah would say, lol!

Hollyhock

I find it both adorable and a bit heartbreaking that Weiss and Yang are the ones who got all maternal upon seeing a baby. Especially Yang since she was abandoned basically at birth

TheRavenWanderer

They can save her from her immortal corruption THEN kill her lol

bloodyshadow1

it's like the rwby version of san Francisco, it even has gay people

LikeCat

What's up with introducing the coolest faunus designs and just killing them within minutes: First Sienna now Tock... But I give a pass to Tock because it is a flashback, but still.

SauceyRed

I am genuinely surprised she didn't predict that Maria has silver eyes lmao

Eric Smith

She's only seen the intro once, at the end of chapter one, and that seems like the biggest hint

Eric Smith

Silver eyes are probably pretty straightforwardly hereditary, but... well, there's one more piece i want to talk about and can't yet 😅 But yeah, they've been around long enough that you wouldn't necessarily consider every silver eyed person to be related.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Huh, just learned something new about the series.

Cranberriez

Design and fighting style: Neo is my favorite villain. I'm so excited to continue this journey with you!

SportySpice

The “real” reason Salem doesnt have all those black veins in The Lost Fable is Miles and Kerry didnt want Oz to come off too much like a monster fucker and well, that’s the Salem he has four kids with… 😆

Benjamin Sones

Neo IS tiny. She's Ruby-sized, at least, Maybe even Weiss-sized.

Anthurak

One VERY cool little detail I've always liked in Ep6: Both Ruby and Maria both display EXTREME resistance to the Apathy's effects. Like before RWBY go down into the well and everyone is shown clearly exhausted by what we can surmised in hindsight to be the Apathy's more passive 'depression field', Ruby and Maria are clearly COMPLETELY unaffected. And even when fighting the Apathy, Ruby and Maria are both able to shrug off the affects of their screams MUCH more quickly than everyone else. Basically, I think it's a neat little indicator of what the Silver Eyes can probably do XD

pneuma163

According to the wiki, Weiss is tall compared to Neo. Weiss is 5 foot 4 inches in heels while Neo is 4 foot 10 inches. Weiss has 6 inches (15 cm) on her. I'm not sure how accurate that actually is, but it seems likely that Neo is shorter than Weiss. If I had the time right now I'd compare myself using some chain of different characters' heights between them from canon. (I'm obviously not gonna say anything about whether the two interact beyond where Elijah is at, but they do back in volume 2 on the train, but in that case neither is standing up)

Arius

Also... Neo was wearing heels so she is even SHORTER compared to Cinder without them. A smol ice cream, and one of my fav characters

Arius

Also I want to add, Neo has NEVER lost a 1v1 fight. She is one of the strongest duelists in the entire show. There's one fight you can say she lost but it's not a 1v1 really. Her fighting style has class, precision, and technique that many other characters don't have. And like Elijah said, her outfits are always amazing.

Phoenix_mercury

She needs saving from herself(aka being let finally rest)

Phoenix_mercury

No it was, Qrow talked about Grimm being weak to the silver eyes in V3(at the end) and cinder only has the maiden powers because of a Grimm

Phoenix_mercury

Not even that: how can Salem be stopped(doesn't state how she could be stopped: killed, destroyed, saved, trapped ect just that she is prevented doing what she's doing)

Phoenix_mercury

For point 3, that's something ruby and Weiss can relate on with Weiss and her mother and ruby with her uncle

Phoenix_mercury

It's not skipped, it's literally not in the files she has thus not a choice she's making 🤦mosco has the same files and had to go to yt to get the V2 intro because the files don't have it

Phoenix_mercury

Yeah it's literally just: new character walks in, quick intro of who they are and how they relate to the existing characters and that's it

Phoenix_mercury

Suddenly just had the mental image of a wee neo stood angy in a pint glass...👀🤣

Phoenix_mercury

Yeah, ruby knew to just get Qrow outta there whilst Weiss needed a moment of catharsis(you can't tell me it wasn't satisfying af to yeet those bottles then toast em) and to just process

Phoenix_mercury

Both? Body isn't in the strongest state neither is his BL whilst simultaneously just coping with the shit as well as temp trying to just not think about everything

Phoenix_mercury

Still the scariest for two completely diff reasons

Phoenix_mercury

Apathy combined with the nuck....👀 Fk that combo...

ElizabethTheMermaid

I was just waiting for your reaction to Saffron and Terra Cotta!! Also, I love your theory about the silver eyes being used to sort of bring Salem back from the dark side. That has been my theory for a while, specifically I think that if Jaune used his semblance to boost Ruby's silver eyes they could get rid of Salem's grimm corruption

Vex Valor

Elijah: Who's that? (about the Grimm Reaper) Me: Harrowhark. High five anyone who got that reference.

Vex Valor

I am excited that you finally got to Saphron and Terra Cotta. When I said long ago that we would later get queer characters with speaking roles, they were some that came to mind. Fun fact: Their names are based on Sappho of Lesbos where the terms lesbian and sapphic originate from. Terracotta is a type of pottery that some of Sappho's work was on.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

A book series about reconciling a Catholic faith with lesbianism.

EmberPanther

A couple fun thoughts about the Apathy episode! I am a huge Bumblebee shipper, so I want to say that I also screeched a bit when Yang grabbed Blake’s hand. I completely agree that The Apathy grim are manifestations of depression, and I noticed a few interesting things in both Chapters 5 and 6 while thinking about that. With the Bumblebee moment at the end of Chapter 6, I have always seen it as this: Yang is finally able to shake off The Apathy’s fog after Ruby disintegrated a good chunk, and she is able to fully register what Blake has been trying to convey. As she is trying to check on the group, she sees Blake in shock after being literal inches away from death, and she makes the decision that Ruby and Weiss can manhandle Qrow out the door, and in this moment Blake needs a little bit of help. When she grabs Blake’s hand and it makes her seemingly jolt back to the present, Yang makes sure to get her out of the house and then beeline it for her bike. The characters that we see struggling to cope the earliest with The Apathy’s effects are Weiss, Yang and Qrow. The thing that links them in this context is that all of them are either confirmed to have had previous struggles with depression, or it would be shocking if they haven’t. Yang has been clearly struggling a lot with depression and PTSD since Beacon (most prominently shown struggling with depression from the end of Volume 3 to about Chapter 4 of Volume 4, and her PTSD has been a more lasting issue), and she was only able to start dragging herself out of that pit with the help of her dad and her new arm. Weiss wasn’t really shown struggling with depression on screen, but CRWBY have confirmed that in essentially the entire time skip between Volumes 3 and 4, she was in her room trying to fight some serious depression, and Kline was her only really lifeline in that time. As for Qrow, it would just be shocking if he didn’t have some form of depression, what with his semblance.

Silverbell_TTV

Elijah towards the end of episode 4, when Salem gets mad: "I scared. I'm scared." Me, knowing what happens in episodes 5-6: "No you're not...not yet." >:D By the way, it has been really nice to see someone make so many positive comments about RWBY. The show's not perfect, but I feel like sometimes people are too hard on it. There's a lot of very clever, good stuff there, and it's nice to see someone else who appreciates those aspects, and focuses on them. I freaking love this show. Interestingly, especially in the earlier volumes, a lot of the cast, while very talented in many ways, weren't professional voice actors at all. Also you kinda blew my mind when you suggested Ruby's eyes might be able to purify Salem. All the times I watched and rewatched Volumes 1-6 waiting for 7 to come out, and I never even thought of that! I've so been looking forward to Elijah finding out about Jaune's sister and her WIFE! ^_^ Oh, that was satisfying! I particularly love how no one made a big deal about it either. Like apparently that's just perfectly normal and unremarkable in their world. How 'bout that.

Beowolf Chow

I love the little nods to Peter Pan in her design. Her accent being very cockney English, her swords being a cup-hilt rapier and a cutlass as a nod to Peter Pan's and Captain Hook's swords, the knuckle bow on each being a jeweler's catch like one would see on a pocket watch chain, the clock on her hip of course, the striped clothes, etc. Just overall a fantastic set of subtle cues taken from books and movies both.

Alexis Cardillo

Honestly the Apathy are truly terrifying in just the fact that radiation fighting doesn't work against them, they just have to scream and anyone around them is done, thank goodness for Ruby's silver eyes. Elijah don't know if you'll see this but your reactions and notes and saying what you love and appreactie about RWBY has greatly helped me remember how and why I fell in love with RWBY in the first place too, keep it up. :D

The best thing about ep 6, is how they show the biggest fear of almost everyone, (ruby = failing everyone) (Blake = giving up) (Yang = being abandoned) (Wiess = Being trapped) (Crow = Getting everyone killed) and Mira and Oscar are to old and young to care.

Shaky Tail Studios

Love how the Apathy weaponize depression. Salem likely has a great idea of how powerful a force it is. Blake looking at Yang being good with a kid just like "I'm gonna make her a MILF."
