LET'S GOOO! God I'm so hyped for the Monster reaction

bloodyshadow1

sees the password. oh you sweet summer child, not this is not the dark saga

Funnily enough, Tiresias wasn’t as vague in the Odyssey. He was actually a lot more specific in his instructions than you’d expect from a seer in Greek myths and tales. You’re gonna get some people saying that Odysseus’ mom died after witnessing the wind bag throw the fleet away from Ithaca. This is not so. The specific text says that she (going off on my own copy) “only my loneliness for you, Odysseus, for your kind heart and counsel, gentle Odysseus, took my own life away.” In short, she died from grief, and it’s never said when - only that it was during the ten years he was at Troy - so for all we know she died before he left for home.

Little fact : it's Jorge's mother interpreting Ody's mother o/ Double mom & son duet ~

Underworld always makes me tear up. If you thought Act 1 was good...oh boy just you wait

Theking

YEAH!!!!!! FINALLY HERE!!!! Im so excited for your reaction to this! Hehe...😈

Theking

Just finished and yep, exactly how it thought she'd react again😂 i love this musical😭 You wanna feel more sad? The last thing people we're thinking of when they died were what they were singing about, meaning Polites, even dying, was still telling Odysseus to greet the world with open arms You're welcome :>

CrowOfAFeather

Underworld Saga is sooo good! But I can't wait for you to hear the Thunder Saga! :D

Raine

"No longer you" is one of my favorite songs, Mason's (Tiresias/the prophet) voice is so beautiful💗

Spyko

Underworld: "When does a man become a monster" is a continued motif we've heard many times from the second song of this musical Just a Man. Most recently we heard it in Ruthlessness. The spirits all are saying what they're last thoughts were. So the men all died calling out for the captain, Polities died still believing in Open Arms, and his mother died waiting for him. None of them can actually see him. Speaking of his mother, she is actually voiced by Jorge's real life mom. Fun fact, she had to record her part several times because she would start crying thinking about not being around for her kids. She did wonderfully in my opinion. No Longer You: Would it really be a visit with a prophet if the protag didn't completely miss the double meanings in all the lyrics? Monster: My favorite part of this song is when Ody is talking about all the villains/antagonists he's come across and then ends off with talking about himself, including himself among them. I love him going through how each of them have a reason why they did what they did, justifiable or no. The cyclops was avenging his pet sheep, Circe was preemptively protecting her nymphs, and Poseidon was doing it as a warning to others not to cross him. None of them feel guilt for their actions because in their minds it's justified. .....So he decides that's how he's going to be. Love a good negative character arc. A real turning point and a fantastic end to Act 1. I'm sure it's only up from here.

Nothing to do with Epic the musical, but next time you're not using your main account and an ad pops up click on the little i and you can block it and get to the video.

Lots of fun had here - glad you see your starting to recognise certain artists - they all do have distinct styles. I think a lot of people get very emotional in The Underworld - for me, not Pancakes the mother gut punch gets me.

ElusiveViper

In the Monster animatic when his head is resting in Penelope's lap she pulls off the headband of Polites from Odysseus. I think a lot of his decisions in Act 1 are from him latching on to the last words of Polites about being kind but that mindset isn't natural to him and he grabbed the only thing he could think off as kind being sparing the cyclops but then his pride kicked in the combination of the two doomed him because when you try to change as a person when extremely prideful and it goes horribly wrong it was the changes fault not yours and you overcorrect the other direction.

While I personally don't like this Saga that much (mainly because it is the shortest, and because I don't particullary like any of the songs - this has nothing to do with the songs being bad, not at all I just like certain songs in other Sagas better), BUT when I was first listening to this and it got to Ody seeing his mom in the river all I could think was „I am over Maria's death *starts instinctively crying thinking about the di Angelos* Nope. Nico I would really want to give you a BIG hug... But you would probably hold your Stygian iron sword to my trought if I came close to you (you are just a little bean of darkness. No matter how many times you say the „Im the Ghost King. I can raise a whole army with a snap of my fingers" thing, you're boyfriend is right... I don't have to be the Oracle of Delphi (hi Rachel) to know that we Apollo kids are right in these situations)"

It’s amazing that Jorge’s mom actually sang as Ody’s mom in Underworld

Alexis Cardillo

What makes the part with the mother even more impactful is that Jorge's actual mother is the singing as Odessye's mother, and a true mother and child moment.

Meloney Ruth

You should watch the helluva boss version of no longer you

Sparrow

I honestly love some of the mental health themes in Epic, and I think The Underworld Saga is one example of that, of being haunted by your past, of wondering if your trauma was your fault, and of the anger and grief you feel when you come to understand and accept what you’ve gone through.

immastealyourSOL

Fun fact, Odysseus's mom was voiced by Jorge's mom irl so that makes it even sadder

Cassandra

That There Are Other Ways during the intro was GORGEOUS!

Zora Brightwood

No Longer You is my fave song of this saga because there is this really cool easter egg in the background of the music near the end that you cannot unhear once you hear it.

Skuttle

One thing I think is overlooked from reactions to this musical is that one of the messages from this is that he needed his ruthlessness to get home. So while many of us don't believe him becoming the monster is a good thing or the right thing, it is the necessary thing.

NamelessSoul

Despite being the shortest this might just be my favorite Saga (I have a hard time committing 😅) Its the true shift in Odysseus and it hurts to watch him make this decision but it also makes sense from his perspective. And this animatic is definitely one of my favs, all of GGs are amazing

Lin

I love No Longer you so much because once you listened to Thunder Saga and then later to ODYSSEUS in the Ithaca saga you have come full circle from what happens in the background vocals during the end of No Longer You. Basically the choir of the sould is already telling what will happen: Siren Song, Scylla Throat, Mutiny, Lightning Bolt. Hunt/Run (not so sure there) Poseidon, Kill all the suitors for love. And then you have the epic Ody-sse-us overlayerd and this comes back in the END of the song ODYSSEUS showing the prophecy is completed. And also when Tiresias sings about the fallen man and a borthers final stand you can both take it about the already dead men and Polites death but! Tiresias is also talking about the future. Sacrifice of men are the men that Ody will sacrifice to Scylla (thus the Scylla ghost scetch in the animatic), the brothers (Eury) final stand will be when the mutiny happens. On the brink of death happens when Zeus hits the ship with his lightning bolt killing everyone but Ody, even if it is close. Plus also brink of death when Poseidon smashes Ody into the Ocean and he draws his final breath as Odysseus and then becomes the monster thus returning home but no longer him for how he was before he left for war or even at the end of the war and the journey.

Rixec2

One often meets their destiny on the road they take to avoid it.

Saiyasha

Since you've now listened to it all: the Chorus in "No longer you" at the end 'spoils' the rest of the musical: "SIREN SONG, SCYLLA THROAT MUTINY, LIGHTNING BOLT HURT POSEIDON KILL ALL THE SUITORS FOR LOVE!" which makes sense since Tireseus is prophesying all off it.

Saiyasha

Apparently it's "Hurt Poseidon" referring both to his emotional hurt making him unable to let this go and the physical pain Odysseus inflicts on him
