Ah yes the episode with Qrow's new voice. Recasts are always a bit unfortunate when they happen, but at least by hiring Jason Liebrecht they hired a VA with prior experience playing a recovering alcoholic bird man being as he was Mordecai from Borderlands 2 and every following sequel.

Ep 1: The animation did get some subtle upgrades, mostly in the way light reflects on the characters and some other general improvements. This is also the first time we get to hear Qrow's new VA. I won't say anything about all that drama but I do think Jason Liebrecht does a fantastic job. The only real difference is that his voice sounds clearer, which I actually like. Mantle is the 'undercity'. Atlas is the floating one up top that has the academy and all the elite, like you said, Mantle is the one down below with the mines and the 'common people'. Pietro!!! Sweet man!!! His little pink bow that matches Penny!!! Our very own Gephetto (sp?). I think the only real difference with these Grimm is that they're covered in patches of ice because they've adapted to being in a tundra. The Ace Ops.... Like Aesops Fables! Ep 2: "Yang didn't get a new outfit" ..... Maybe look again, my dear. Or don't. Save it for the show to show you. lol WINTER!!!! EVERYONE SHUT UP MY QUEEN IS HERE!!!!! Ironwood: I wanna protect the kingdom. Also Ironwood: Didn't have the fucking code updated in Mantle so that it's not easy to hack into! Listen, I'm not even an IT person but even I know that if you update your stuff, every piece of connected equipment needs to be updated or you leave a backdoor into system wide open! UGH!! Especially to someone like Watts who knows the code!!! Raven called him a 'disgraced Atlesian scientist' back in V5. I'm so excited for this volume! It's a ride!

(*ahem* Inhales*) MY FAVORITE CHARACTER WITH A HEART OF GOLD HAS FINALLY RETUNRED!!!! This may just be me with shows that I've watched but when Penny first "died" I was bummed but not sad because robot so I had a feeling she'd come back at some point, it's just that'll take a moment but I am happy she is back and combat ready. And she is new and improved. You did a great and fast job connecting the dots with Pietro's daughter and fun fact if you remembered when Penny got first disassembled he made a tiny cameo for about 3 seconds. That is correct welcome to Atlas and it does run similarly to the place in Arcane with Mantle being the city at the bottom that looks like a rusted up and abandoned NY or Chicago while Atlas the place above with all the fancy stuff is where the rich and higher elites stay at and.........lack of Faunus overall. And as always with every new season the animation does get better and more pretty, thanks to every new season getting a bigger budget because of it's popularity and with Volume 10 being under VizMedia $$$$ things will always improve from here. Also for a small refresher, our scorpion friend got his new tail last volume by the help of Waltz and now they're tag teaming for the mission here in Atlas. We hope you enjoy with friendly faces being old, new, and improved. And with what Ruby said, Ironwood maybe being truthful with everything however Ruby isn't at the moment and everyone else is falling behind her lead as if you recall there is one question left........You've still got a quite a few people to meet just like the A-team (reads script) I mean Ace opts you'll learn more as you go on just like with your questions on the most savager mother-fer alive we hope you enjoy this volume because things are going to get gooooood. Also I will say this now FNDM and NSAF's........I have a feeling we might need a headphone warning for next episode for.......reasons. Enjoy the ride!

V7 is such an animation glow-up. The backgrounds are so beautiful. Love how giddy you are about RWBY. Same, girl. I have complicated thoughts about Penny coming back exactly the same as she was (I think this Penny 2.0 should be more akin to a twin, not a clone or restart) but I still teared up like crazy when she returned. They all get outfit changes (Yang too). Chopping off your hair after a huge emotional chapter in your life closes is pretty reasonable! I think some of the nuance of the meeting with Ironwood was unfortunately missed here. They arrive at a city with massive surveillance and police presence, where the “Undercity” appears to be fraying at the pressure. Ruby was disguising the full truth (“We were in a train crash, and suddenly Ozpin was gone.” “Oz told us all the questions had been used.”) All technically true statements, but Ruby doesn’t trust him yet. Everyone’s POV is understandable here — it’s what makes this volume so interesting.

1. Jinn said Salem can't be killed by Oz, not at all. 2. God of light said she will rest from her immortality when she find out how important is balance and death. 3. In show they never said what James Ironwood semblence is but they said that in his song, this is important to understand this and next volume, his semblece made him hiperfocused on his mission/goal and turn off emotional side that can colide with it.

The animation improves every singe volume. It will get better again in v8. James doesn't know that Salem is imortal. In Volume 5 we saw Raven poit out that Watts is a disgrace Atlasian scientist. That was our first clue, then last episode when Penny's dad said that the person who took over the Atlas ships and robots was either a genius, one of their own , or both was our second clue that he worked with the government there. I liked how they gave us those tiny clues about him.

A few things Mantle isn't that new character, it's the name of the city that Atlas hover overs and where we spent most of this first chapter in. It's very much a Piltover/Zaun like situation. "Yang is the only one who didn't get a haircut or outfit change" Look again, Elijah. There's no hair change, yeah, but that IS a new outfit lol You seemed to have missed that Ruby DID lie and omit stuff to Ironwood. The lamp has one question left but she said they were all used up. She omitted everything about The Lost Fable and why Oz retreated deep into Oscar's mind. She's playing it safe so she can make sure Ironwood can be trusted first.

The characters, the animation, the fights, the story. She’s curious about everything. She enjoys all the little and big interactions. And of course she’s also a big shipper so that adds another layer of fun. These reactions rock. They make Friday so exciting to look forward to. Underrated moment from the reaction was her being proud of how mature Jaune looks with his new outfit haha.

Volume 7, 8, and 9 are my top three Volumes, so I cannot convey how excited I am for you to see them. You'll see why: - You're 100% correct. This is where the budget MAJORLY increases. The animation was already getting pretty good, but holy shit can you see that extra budget immediately. - Don't worry, we'll get to learn plenty about Atlas. And then some. - Also this is where we get Qrow's new voice actor, Jason Liebrecht. I'm usually really good at recognizing voice actors and other details, yet I didn't notice immediately the first time I watched the show. - Love you, Winter. - Seeing the cast and show grow and reach new heights is honestly part of the appeal of RWBY to me. - Lmao for college I was asked to apply sociology concepts to a TV show of my choice and I ended up writing about how Karl Marx's conflict theory applies to Atlas and Mantle. - Weiss has come so fucking far. I'm genuinely so proud of her and love how returning to Atlas, which helped produce her earlier aggressive prejudice, only emphasizes that progression further. - Also I love how with the increase of budget small details in the animation that we saw early on in the show return. Like little emphasis graphics and tons of sound effects. - We actually first saw Pietro allllllllllll the way back in Volume 3. - I need to get me a copy of that blackboard on the wall. - It's forever team JNPR to me. Even without Pyrrha alive. - Not mechanical, but they are new. Solitas (this continent) has some fun Grimm. - I use that sequence with Ruby when I want to show people that the animation gets soooooo much better. It encompasses so much of the quality improvement- the angles, the effects, the speed, the backgrounds, the lighting. It's all there and I get to scream "I SWEAR IT GETS BETTER." - Oh Elijah you are so impressively on the pulse of this show. You've guessed so many things before they happen. - There's our girl!! Back to 1 cent instead of multiple quarters. - I love Maria's regular "Hey what the fuck is happening?" quips because it's a good reminder that she is kind of out of the loop. - Blake's short hair takes a moment to get used to, but it ended up being my favorite. She's my favorite character in general so it was really fucking weird to see it for the first time, since I have the same damn haircut. - Lmao yeah the openings tends to be a bit spoiler-y. I do love this opening so much though, but Volume 8's remains my favorite. - You can never really see it directly, but Ruby's new outfit has a pouch with a corgi symbol on it. - The Ace-Ops are the worst pun in the series. Ace Ops... Aesop's... - Love Weiss wearing rubies in her outfit. And also red returning to her design in general. - This is actually my favorite Yang outfit. The aviator outfit is so fucking cool. Please continue to become more and more butch, Yang. - Robyn my beloved. And also the show losing even more subtlety with allusions. - "You have 10 seconds to take those off before I start hurting you" is kind of doing it for me. Winter, you may be so cool, but god are you hot. - "Stable condition" sure is an interesting way to put it. - Ironwood's delivery is so calm and steady, but some of the shit he says is really fucking paranoid and controlling. It just doesn't come off that way because people gauge intention more in tone than words. - I think it's really telling that Ruby decides to lie. She's usually quite honest. - It's cute that they did it with Qrow of all people, since he's such a lone wolf. He genuinely wants to have connection with people, he just feels like his semblance gets in the way. - There is a certain scene in episode 3 that you are NOT fucking ready for. Try to not cause property damage. I'm sure the sickos in the comments probably know exactly which one I'm referring to.

Something that's never really explained well, and you are already confused about, is there are TWO cities. Atlas: the big floating place in the sky, and Mantle: the main city on the ground. it's odd and irritating. They NEVER come out and say that, your just expected to pick it up from context.

Lovely reaction as always, especially to the Bees as always ^^ But this is where I wish you had actually watched the World of Remnant shorts, because after you're done with the series for the time being there's no point in watching them. Which is a great shame. I know you like to pause a lot, which helps with your keen eye for details, but you kept misunderstanding bc of it; Mantle is not a person, it's the city below Atlas. The WoR would've informed you, and you somehow thought that person still was "Mantle" even when Maria talked about how Mantle "needed something to look up to" and whatnot. Since you didn't read the comments you weren't notified how we wished you skipped the new into until after ch3 so you wouldn't be spoiled, but oh well. So little fun fact: Most of Chapter 1 was originally going to be part of the Volume 6 finale, but it ended up making it way too long (and they likely didn't have enough budget left to work with anyway), so they ended up splitting it in half and reworking it for Volume 7. Chapter 1 is also the first time we hear Jason Liebrecht voice Qrow and imo he is much better at it. The intro is an interesting case of retroactive spoilers because before Volume 7 came out they released concept art of the new designs so most of us already knew ahead of time. When Chapter 1 first aired the most spoilery parts of the intro were the ones that had Penny in it. Speaking of Penny, I'm obsessed with her new design, and have been since it was revealed, easily the best one of the Atlas arc outfits (with Cinder's as a close contender).

Vol 8's is amazing (the sneaky stuff they hid in it) and Vol 9's has a special place in my heart (Vol 9 being my first REAL full Vol experience of RWBY from start - the trailer - to finish) - the first episode that I watched when it came out was the first episode of Vol 8 after the mid-season hietas (lets just say it was an „interesting" first episode to watch on release)

Funny story. When I watched the dub of the anime Darker Than Black (Librechet voices the protagonist) there was an episode where one of the minor characters was voiced by Qrow’s first voice actor. And they genuinely sound so similar that I did a double take. I asked my partner “Wait why did they have the main character’s voice actor double up on the roles if he was just gonna do the same voice?” LOL. Clearly Elijah thinks they sound alike. She didn’t even notice the voice change for Qrow haha. Maybe she will once he gets more speaking parts. But it is funny atm.

I remember back during the original airing of episode 2 of volume 7 I was screaming at Ruby to tell the truth. Kinda messed up she's keeping such an important fact from James, especially when his big plan hinges on Salem being killable. Ruby's doing exactly what Oz did and it being a hypocrite at the moment.

They flew in to see he had turned Mantle into a security state with him acting as the authoritative leader. They had every reason not to trust him

Which he was only doing to enact his plan. I get that there is no evidence that can trust him but what do they gain from withholding that information, especially after he proves his plan. His plan puts lives at risk but in his mind it's worth it to defeat Salem. By holding that information back ahe is allowing him to sacrifice those lives for nothing.

I think Ruby's still testing the waters at the moment. When they first learned about Salem's immortality, they all had a minor breakdown; telling Ironwood could have even worse repercussions. Again, it's still too early for her to accurately judge how he would react, it was a spur of the moment decision.

It’s also a semi-common trope for abuse victims in western media for hair to be related to their abuse symbolically or directly. A lot of characters seem to change their hair after their abusers die or become less of a threat to them (Carol from TWD comes to mind, Catra’s hair also changes in the beginning of s4 after Shadow Weaver leaves her towards the end of s3).

welcome to volume 7! this was the first volume I watched as it came out so it holds a special place in my heart, to be sure. you are in for one hell of a ride! yes, the animation is sooooo good. it truly is amazing how far they progressed from those early days, and the sheer level of detail compared to Beacon era. have fun catching all the little things ;D PENNY!!!! I just knew her reveal would be the highlight of this reaction video, and I love how she clocked into it right after Pietro talked about his daughter. and yes, SUCH A GLOW-UP! as a huge Winter fan, I'm so glad you're noticing the bond she has with Weiss. they may not have the dynamic of Ruby and Yang, but they are definitely close - and you'll be reminded why later on... also I gotta shout out to Winter's new look being so good AAAAAA yep, Watts and Tyrian are back. and yes, Watts is a big problem. have fun! on a lighter note, loving the hype for the new looks and for the Blake & Yang moments :3

Given that this was something the creators themselves confirmed, it wouldn't be a spoiler. Also, Salem having the power to resurrect people as evil versions of themselves wouldn't make a ton of sense for reasons tied to their backstories. Also, side note, RWBY tends to follow the Rule of 4, not Rule of 3.

After he explained everything though and gave back the relic though? OP is right, They’re ultimately doing exactly what Ozpin did by withholding the truth. Trust goes a long way with Ironwood, so keeping such a huge piece of information from him is probably the worst possible decision. I mean I’d be pretty upset if I was Ironwood. He’s risking a lot by creating the communication tower and he’s risking his life just as much as team RWBY and the rest to fight Salem. Anyone risking that much absolutely deserves to know the truth. It’s like telling soldiers to go to war without telling them what they’re fighting.

Vol7! I'm pretty sure I've rewatched every volume a few times at this point, but Vol7 is probably the one I'd most recommend watching twice. RWBY is always on point with it's foreshadowing but this volume has so much double meaning in the first half that you'll probably only see the second time around.

Yeah the animation just gets better with each volume, and watching each on in close succession you really can see the difference. Yeah from this volume on the opening starts to became a bit like anime in which they start showing things that are going to happen in the volume, the the new outfits weren't spoiled in the opening, in a panel before volume 7 was released CRWBY released the art of their new looks for team RWBY and JNR Probably didn't notice cause Yang's hair saved the same but she got a new outfit too, that will be clear soon enough

Volumes 7, 8, and 9 are my favorites. This season is especially well written. So many complex characters and situations. Yes, Mantle is the city on the ground, Atlas is the one floating, and there is definitely a lower city vs upper city vibe. In addition, there is also a slum area in Mantle, populated mostly by, you can probably guess, Faunus. You're correct there is still one wish left despite what Ruby said. Not a lie exactly, Oz did tell them initially that all the wishes were used up. Also, no one but the gang knows Salem can't be killed. Well, other than her people. I'm guessing you're going to get used to Blake's haircut pretty fast. It's really cute on her, in my opinion. In truth, I had more trouble adjusting to Jaune's new cut.

Many here have pointed things repeatedly so I’ll just break it down to two simple outfit concepts for Yang: Yang (Mistral Arc): Cowboy themed outfit Yang (Atlas Arc): Aviator themed outfit —- Atlas: the City in the Sky loosely based off of the Greek Titan named Atlas who was punished and condemned to hold up the sky for all eternity. Mantle: the City below whose visuals were loosely based off of Bladerunner’s environment. Let us know if you get the “1984” vibes from the opening scenes of the crew flying into mantle.

Welcome to Atlas and Mantel. At least it's a more stable bed at the Academy though, right? As Penny said, it'll be just like Beacon. Speaking of... that was about the right reaction to Penny's glow up/reveal. Mostly, some noted the green lasers and remembered they were only used by Penny but her air pirouette is solidly one of the best highlights of the Volume. That said, the lowlight that a /lot/ of the FNDM wasn't thrilled about was Ruby keeping things from Ironwood (or as he got called this volume, Iron-Daddy). The Ace-Ops (their individual inspirations can be covered next chapter with their more structured introduction, though their collective name could give parts of it away.

You're already zeroing in on so many things I love about this Volume. There's such a mix of caution and hope. Ironwood's emotional journey is such a lynchpin of this season, and you can tell right from the start. His exhaustion, that tender hug with Qrow. He's a man who's become weathered by hopelessness, and is so relieved to have some semblance of friendship return to his life.
