My take on the new outfits Ruby: I love the messy hair, fits as a speedster theme, red and black works the best here but I'm wondering why she has a slit in her skirt, it's short enough that it doesn't need it Weiss: my favourite. Amazing ice princess look, red jewelry gives pops here and there but somehow her hair triples in volume. I'm not complaining though, it's great with this new design Blake: it's nice, long coat looks cool in the wind, colours work, nothing too much to compliment on. I definitely prefer the previous design. I don't like all the random zippers and I'm not fond of the new haircut, but as a guy who likes girls with long hair, I may need a second opinion on it. Yes, I was simping for coatless Blake alongside Elijah Yang: this one is just strange, she's dressed up like some steampunk plane mechanic. I'm not aware of Yang having any sort of skills like that

Yes, Ruby was there as well fighting the Geist Grimm. That's the same type of Grimm that Weiss fighting in her trailer. Oh, no...that original acident was not an attack. It was an acident, that took a bunch of lives. Including ILea's parents. And yes, as much as i had skipped Qrow with Winter, I have now abandoned that ship for this one. Qrow deserves to be around someone where he doesn't gave to worry that his semblance will hard or kill them.

Also Yang playing off staring at Blake by feigning checking her nails on her prosthetic hand is such a funny moment of physical comedy, just as Blake having such a strong reaction to Jauque's attempt at manipulation is a great character touch of her recognising something she'd been on the recieving end herself. The episodes are short but RWBY really doesn't waste a moment of its animation.

I really like the way they show the Aesop— I mean, Ace Ops working together, in contrast to what we see from RWBY (and to a lesser extent JNR). Love or hate his methods, Ozpin puts teams together to be a group in practically every aspect of their lives: living in dorm rooms together, taking classes together, going on missions together, etc. As a result, you really see in a team like RWBY an emphasis on combo tactics — even back in Vol. 1, before they were officially teamed up, the four of them took down the giant Nevermore by all working in tandem. The Ace Ops, on the other hand, are a military unit. They're "hand-picked to complement each other's abilities", sure, but in attacking the Geist, they each do their part alone, one after another. And for them, this is a day job, and they go their several ways once they clock out. Makes a great bit of worldbuilding to show how RWBY and JNR are still doing the same work, but in a place that treat such work very differently.

Also, the use of "Red Like Roses Part II" when Ruby asks Qrow about Summer's last mission is hands down one of my favorite music cues in the whole series.

Yang canonically has her pilot license (at least according to the game Grimm Eclipse, which Miles and Kerry mentioned is actually canon much like the Grimm Campaign which is why Ein designed her with an Aviator outfit). And Yang is a mechanic prowess.

Weiss has had one hell of a character development thus far. She's been my favorite character for quite some time now. I get reminded often about her conversation with Professor Port, and how she vowed to become the best teammate. It took me a few rewatches to catch this, but when Yang is checking out Blake's new hairstyle you can see in the snow that she walked to where she was standing, clearly visible to Blake.

It was always impressive to me how rwby is only of the only shows ive seen that with each and every season it feels like it gets heavier and heavier in stakes The story keeps going deeper and it always keeps escalating somehow with each new volume bringing more stuff to the table Too many cases of shows falling flat after 2 or 3 seasons but thats the diffirence between a great show and am okay one

A LOT of people shipped Qrow with Clover this volume including me so you're definitely not alone in that, but i will say that "moment" when Qrow learned about Clovers semblance is less like a flirty moment and more Qrow realising he can actually work besides someone without having to feel constant guilt and fear of something happening to them due to his semblance

It's honestly so refreshing to hear how much you love this show :D And yes, you did see the Geist Grimm back in V4 where RNJR (Ruby Nora Jaune Ren) took it down! Good memory! It's funny how you mentioned Qrow's new VA was easy to tell when you didn't notice for the first two chapters hehe I knew you would have reactions to those two moments, but falling over? lol! xD Its definitely not easy to just tell Ironwood the truth. Even back in earlier volumes Ironwood wasn't exactly super trusting Ozpin either. This is the man who went behind his back with the Vale Council just so he could be in charge of security. And Pietro and Lionheart both mentioned how his worst tendencies got even worse after Beacon's fall. But yeah, imagine if you hadn't watched the new opening until ch4; we all wanted you to be surprised with the reveal when they were in the aircraft, but still fun to see your reaction to the scene :D But perhaps you might convince Mosco down the line to skip it? Happy that you're back! Now to jump into Mosco's V3 finale tomorrow lol!

I'm genuinely so happy to hear that RWBY is your new She-Ra, that's so fucking awesome. Especially because it has so many vocal haters. I love RWBY so much, it's genuinely one of my top 10 favorite shows, up there with Gravity Falls, TOH, Amphibia, Steven Universe, HH, HB, etc. It's also such a niche show, so it makes me super happy whenever a reaction channel I watch picks it up. I had just finished replaying Resident Evil 7 when I noticed the email notification, so doing a major tone shift in media here lmao. Not complaining though because I've been so excited for this reaction: - Honestly, I relate. She-Ra was super important to me and consumed my life the moment it came out, even to the point that I got the Failsafe symbol tattooed on my arm (so my girlfriend and I can match). Since then I drifted between a few hyperfixations and returned to some old ones, but none of them grabbed me by the throat like RWBY did. - This is indeed the second time in the series we see a geist. Well, third if you count the White Trailer. - Lmao trust me I think any of us RWBY sickos who also really like She-Ra think the parallels between Catradora and Bumbleby are hilarious. Edgy cat girl and buff blonde is a classic at this point. - The only person who doesn't get an upgraded weapon is Weiss, 'cause her weapon is already perfect for her. White girl #1. - I absolutely adore their Atlas designs. Minus Weiss' hair. The braid just doesn't do it for me. - You discussing Yang's asymmetrical designs just makes me realize that's a nod to the Yellow Trailer quote. There's so much love in this god damn show and new details to notice. - Qrow's new design is a bit eh for me. I like the details on the sleeves and the overall appearance but it feels like it's missing something. - Congrats on not doing property damage after seeing that. I was genuinely concerned you'd break a window or something. - Lmao Yang looking at the nails on her robotic hand. So smooth. - Atlas sure is... a journey for Weiss. Kind of hard to not be when she's at her home with family's name and sins plastered everywhere. - It definitely is his new VA! And you're right, they did a really good match. Impressively so. - Jaune "Missing Social Cues" Arc forever and always - This is implied to be the mine accident that killed Ilia's parents. - Nah, Blake's semblance is not a play on the nine lives thing. Though there is a pun in it- she's a //copycat//. - Marrow's design puns are MLP level bad. Like, he's a dog faunus with the name Marrow. And his semblance is to freeze things in place by saying "Stay." AND his weapon's name is fucking FETCH. - "Anybody else?" Oh you are Not the only one. I did the moment I saw that interaction- no hints in me saying that I just think they're cute. Their ship name is Fair Game btw. - Is it just me or does the Ace Op's music always sound like Pokemon battle music??? - Fiona has the cutest faunus design imo. I will die on that hill. - I said it last time but I love that with the increased budget they've returned to the little animation bits they did early on. - Blake pretty always being the one to suggest sleeping/naps is cute. She truly is a cat. - Jacques continuing to be so villainous he distracts the audience from how insanely controlling Ironwood is. Like, it comes off as badass because we're sticking it to dear ol' Jack Frost, but Ironwood doing things without council votes and taking things he wants is unhinged. - Them standing in RWBY order, holding hands, and delivering the killer line "Not friends. Family" just ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. - I'm so glad you rewinded and saw Blake in her little cat pose. It's one of my favorite "blink and you miss it" frames in the entire show. I actually have chibi art of it sitting on my shelf. - It's insane to remember that Ruby is the age to start a huntsman academy like normal and already has her huntsman license. - Blake's awkward little smile and noises when Yang takes photos brings me so much joy. She's so autism. - Once they stepped away from the womanizing bit for Qrow and stuck to his core character he really grew on me. These next couple of volumes only make me more fond of him. - Chess imagery for the millionth time. Somebody who knows more about chess could probably comment on it more in-depth than I ever could. - Watts character allusion is basically John Watson if he went with Moriarty. It's very flat but fun. - Good fucking luck with next reaction. There's a scene I know you'll love and have been frothing at the mouth for you to see. - Also! There's a canon game called RWBY: Arrowfell that takes place this early on in the volume. Idk how much you game but it's pretty cheap to get, easy to play, and has cinematics done by the animation team for the show.

I am forever pointing this out: Adam manipulated Blake using her parents as well. Obviously Ruby and Yang are going to be outraged on Weiss behalf, being her friends and teammates—but there’s an extra layer for Blake. She’s BEEN THERE. Seeing someone she loves and respects being abused in one of the same ways she was (and by someone she already has a million reasons to hate, no less) must have had her PISSED. Jacques is lucky that Blake is largely a pragmatic pacifist

Theory: Faunus in Atlas lean hard into stereotypes as a way to be ‘accepted.’ Evidence: Marrow and Neon (Blake and Neon actually have an argument about this in one of the early mangas, in which Neon claims there are ‘two types’ of Faunus, Faunus who embrace it like her and Faunus who run away from it like Blake). As far as I can tell, Neon and Marrow are the only examples of this. Sure, other Faunus embrace their animal-type’s instincts (such as Sun hanging from trees and Blake loving tuna) or may incorporate nods to it in their outfits (Kali’s outfit having a cloth cord tail thing, Ghira’s boots looking like a tuxedo cat’s toes, Blake’s first outfit having a tuxedo cat-like chest). Embracing part of the animalistic nature is obviously a cultural thing for the Faunus, but Marrow and Neon go over the top with it to a degree that almost feels like it’s meant to parody that. It would be sad but interesting and realistic if it’s become a *thing* for Faunus in Atlas to sort of make fun of and bastardize their own customs in order to be accepted.

I love how much Elijah absolutely adores this show. It warms my heart and I'm so excited for her to get through these next three volumes. Episode 3: While I’m not a huge fan of Weiss’s braid, I will say the new looks are pretty good. Love Yang’s bomber jacket and Ruby’s hair. Blake’s hair cut is a little stiff but it gets better. Even Qrow got a new look, finally, and he looks pretty great. I'm sure someone else already mentioned it by now but Blake fixed her blade using a Japanese technique called Kintsugi, which uses gold to mend the cracks in pottery usually. I'm sure there's also no other reason she'd use gold to fix her weapon. Nope. No reason at all. Jaune finally has a landing strategy! I love this boy. I love that not only does Yang get caught just staring at Blake like the dork she is, but after she’s caught she checks the nails of her METAL HAND to try and act nonchalant about it. Yang, sweetie, I love you but oh my god you’re a disaster. Elijah's reaction made it even better. The mine accident they mention here is the same one that killed Ilia's parents. That's why Blake knew what it was. Seeing a pro Huntsman team in action is always a treat for our kids. Pretty good teamwork all around. So for our Ace Ops Aesop fable inspiration we have: -Clover – Fisherman’s Goodluck -Elm and Vine – The Elm and the Vine -Harriet – Tortoise and the Hare -Marrow – Dog’s Reflection Episode 4: “Not friends. Family.” Excuse me while I sob!! WE LOVE THE FOUND FAMILY TROPE!!! Winter really be like “I purposefully slowed the vehicle down so that I wouldn’t have to interact with Father,” and you know what? Valid. God, I love that Penny’s back. I’ve missed her. Bee Selfie!!!! Oh my god they’re so cute why!!

@Jittercritter Honestly, that'd make sense. I believe that interaction with Neon was in one of the non-canon anthologies though? But the fact that they let it stay in regardless (among other interesting things lmao) gives some weight to the possibility. There's also something to be said for how it tends to be the faunus with the tails that lean so hard into the stereotypes. Perhaps because they can't hide it the same way faunus with ears/claws/etc. can?

(Resets the "It has been ___ days since Elijah hurt herself while gae panicking" sign) Having worked as a rigger on CG animated features before, Blake's unzipped sleeves over her forearms give me hives. I know how hard that shit is to do. Take a shot for every time someone flat out spoil whether or not Qrow/Clover is going to happen. Good thing Elijah doesn't read the comments anymore, eh? Chapter 4: Yay, cake! Summer's last mission wasn't for Ozpin? Ooh, LORE!

Well this upload was a surprise...... But much apperciated for early RWBY Yes you are correct Qrow did get a new VA for reasons I will not say but our new guy Jason Liebrecht makes a fine addition to the crew. Also if you recall back about ilia her parents died from a SDC explosion in a mine and she vented to Bake about it, particularly why she joined the white fang. I do recommend remembering words that are said for certain actions, example of one being Ren because you do get a broader picture on a lot of it all. You also do gotta love the complexity of the issues of everything it's a fun way to get you to think. You are also not the only one who ships Qrow and Clover a lot of people do as well. Also I love your little nickname for the mustache duo I never thought of that. I'm really happy you're taking such a love for RWBY, it is at the moment my second favorite show of all time. The Owl House being number 1 and will always have a special place in my heart but, depending how RWBY finishes who knows it may be number one as this show is so great with mystery, characters, arcs, styles and a whole lot of heart. Next up is my second favorite episode for the entire series we hope you enjoy! Also for Weiss's outfit she is dress like royalty because she is our Ice Queen also out of context: I'm betting 6 minute breakdown and giggling at MINIMUM soon

Given what Ruby told Jaune (back in Volume 1) about how Signal Academy students are required to forge their own weapons, it actually makes sense for Yang to be mechanically inclined since she forged the “Ember Celica”, a weapon that can expand and retract back and forth between bracelet and gauntlet weapon. Plus it’s typical for bikers to also be pilots attracted to flight because they’re thrill seekers

It is kind of surprising it took two episodes to officially get the new arc threads isn't it? Welcome to Jason Liebrecht, the new voice of Qrow. Not touching why, it's not related to RWBY. It's generally assumed that the mine was where Ilia's parents died. *Centinels rise* Elijah: "Well, we gave it a good try guys, but it just wasn't happening. Nuke it from orbit. Only way to be sure." Yes Elijah, a lot of folks instantly went on to Fair Games with that look/scene. I get wanting the 'kids' to shine, but the boss fight was to showcase the Ace-Ops mostly. And ship tease. Also lore tease. There is kind of a 'reason' why the Ace-Ops 'aren't friends', though that's more for next volume reveal. I do like Blake's 'wait...what... now?' smile for Yang's selfie.

Seeing you recognize the growth and connection between Blake and Weiss really warms my heart. You’ve hit the nail on the head with how they’ve grown to be each other’s support. Of the four of them, Yang may be Blake’s love interest, and Ruby may be Weiss’s best friend, but Blake and Weiss are (I think) the closest to being real sisters. In many ways they share the same past. Children that grew up on opposite sides of a war the consumed their cultures. At first they seemed to hate each other, but they’ve come to realize that they want the same thing. Theirs is more than just a close personal relationship, it’s a sign of hope for a better future. 🤍🖤

Idk if Blake's semblance is a play on cats having 9 lives, but i do think it's a metaphor for dissociation. Blake herself describes it as an empty copy that takes the hit for her. This is a common coping mechanism for trauma survivors

I think that could be a great possible storyline moving forward in later volumes Possibly after whatever happens with salem and civilization having to rebuilt the kingdoms, blake and weiss giving an example working along side eachother. It might give faunus and human a diffirent relationship view of coexisting and not bring assholes at eachother

I think the problem is precisely because it's not the usual high production, low-risk piece of art that it's concidered 'cringe', and a lot of people would rather be caught dead than be in any way perceived as 'cringe'. Personally i gave up on being not cringe ages ago, so nothing is stopping me from loving rwby

@Phoenix Mackenzie You got me there, though Tyrion's tail is more of a weapon and worth going the extra mile to hide (which he really only did long enough to have it be a reveal in V4). Plus in nature scorpion tails aren't that mobile and don't really respond to emotion in the same way dog, cat, and monkey tails do.

It’s also just a lot of people who think anything made after Monty’s death is trash, and whatever Monty would’ve done would’ve been 1000x better. Others just hate the direction the show took, or just think the writing became so much worse. Which is fine, but if you vocalize that hate to impose your opinion on others, that’s bad.

You can ship Qrow and Clover if you want. It's not an unpopular ship. But just know that that interaction wasn't set up for a relationship. It was Qrow realizing he'd found a friend he could be around.

My cheeks are literally hurting from smiling so much watching Elijah react to the bee scenes! I love that Blake's ear twitches a little right before she looks over at Yang. Blake must've heard Yang's heart beating a little faster and realized Yang was staring at her. It was absolutely adorable, also love them taking selfies together! I personally don't ship Qrow and Clover because it feels more like just a friendship vibe between them. Can't wait for the next reaction!! ❤️🤍🖤💛

If you notice on the new outfits: Yang has a purple sash on her leg (one of Blake's colors) and Blake's re-built sword has a strip of gold in the middle where the break was (one of yang's colors, and also reminiscent of the Japanese pottery method of kintsugi)

Having followed RWBY since it first posted the Red Trailer, it certainly opened my eyes to how intense a fandom can be. Now it feels more like the dust has settled, and reactors can come into the show blind, enjoy it for what it is, and not have to go through that 10 years. So it does feel emotionally healing, for me personally.

we love the Blake & Yang moments <3 yes, Qrow got a new VA - and imo he's turned out to be a fine change of pace. he certainly stepped up for the role. Blake was not there for the mine explosion... but Ilia was. in the v5 Blake character short, Ilia talks about the day she found out her parents were killed in a Dust mine accident while she was living in Atlas. so Blake realizes that this mine was the place Ilia told her about. Ace Ops Semblance breakdown: Clover - good fortune Vine - limb extension aka sparkly noodle arms/legs Elm - plants her feet like the roots of a mighty tree Harriet - speedster Marrow - ability to make target freeze join the We Hate Jacquass Club, we have jackets! and it only gets better! also big yes to Penny being an adorable menace. seeing her come back was truly such a joy

I don't really ship Clover and Qrow like that but they have a great dynamic. It's nice to see Qrow feel more at ease, especially after Volume 6 where he felt so much pressure, so much guilt about his semblance. Having someone around that can somewhat 'nullify' his bad luck semblance must be such a relief for him.

In a lot of stories, a new hairstyle is indicative of entering a new period of their life. It's just like how Blake cut her hair to show that she was moving on from the time she'd spent tormented by Adam. In Jaune's case, he's finally entering a sort of "post-Pyrrha" point of his life. He's finally found some closure, after visiting Argus. Now that he's in Atlas, truly working toward doing some measurable good, he finally feels confident and stable enough to try a new look (that some of his more fashion-forward friends helped him pick out, no doubt lol)

Jaun's look actually changed a lot. In addition to his hair and extra armour, his entire outfit has changed. He still has the black top and blue pants, but they're no longer a hoodie and jeans. He's actually wearing combat gear.
