So there's actually a lot of info in the descriptions for the merch. Frankie's plushie says 'Ah, the ever reliable Frankie Plush. She will guard you while you sleep, and also talk to her hallucinations while you sleep. Which one of us can say they are truly real, anyway?' So her talking to the animals and how she sees Gwen is absolutely some kind of hallucination. Also they are definitely her knights. The acrylic stand set is called the Royal Guardians set and the descriptions back this up. Gwen's 'The princess is joyous. But is it because she has her knights to protect her, or is it because she laughs at the idea that she could be harmed even if they weren't...' Andi 'Andi looks sternly down upon you, for she is prepared to fight anyone that would harm her princess.' And finally Frankie 'Frankie welcomes you with not a smile, but a smirk, for she knows that while she is here, none shall harm her princess.' So, yeah, Andi and Frankie are absolutely the Knights of Guinevere, which is a nice twist on the formula. It's refreshing to have her knights be two female characters

When you watch again (and I know you will!) when Sparky is confronting Andi and Frankie, he calls Frankie, Franklin. I haven't found any confirmation yet, but there is a lot of thoughts that Frankie may be trans. If they are, I am loving the representation!

That initial pencil sketch of Guinevere, that so seems like the sort of dumbass notes Disney would give to their animators. "This point is too violent, let's brainstorm." I can see Dana being at Disneyland one day and going "what if the animatronics were alive...and didn't want to be here " I get strong "Battle Angel Alita" vibes from the park floating high above the "Scrapyard" below. It's also depressingly realistic that the visitors to the park would just toss their trash over the edge.

The design notes for Guinevere are all from "-O" ... so that must have been Olivia. But that hand writing and wording seems more adult... When I worked on "The Book of Life" we got notes like that ALL THE TIME from the studio. We literally had to round off the sharp edges on the bandits' swords, and replace the bullets on their bandoleers with "canisters". They even made us change the ending (a major character died in the original) and threatened to shut down the production at the 11th hour if Jorge didn't comply. Fuck corporate overlords! Dana knows we can and will pause. So here's a lore dump in 10 second montage. And a semester's worth of media literacy lessons in the production design. It's subtle as a brick to the face, but I feel like Dana has some strong opinions about corporatized entertainment and the endless cycle of consumption and exploitation that comes with it. Given how dark this pilot has been, the umbilical cord symbolism with the blue cable coming out of Guinevere's abdomen, and the amount of generational trauma in the Owl House, I have a theory about Guinevere and the mom. "...what the fuck!?" yeah that was my reaction, too. P.S. The production babies section suggests that Dana had twins! And named them after the (good) moms in The Owl House!

I don't know if Dana had any amount of inspiration from the old 1990-1995 manga "Battle Angel", but I'm getting some STRONG vibes because there are some VERY obvious parallels. Edit: Apparently I'm not the only one; Chelzor straight-up titled her reaction "Battle Angel Guinevere". Edit Edit: I just noticed while watching another reaction, but when Frankie starts up the repair halo, the screen shows what looks like scans of an *actual brain*.

That's what I just caught watching the reaction: in the first scene them, Guinevere called Frankie Francesca. Sparky says Franklin. So when Sparky says "because you're...you," I can't decide if it's an acknowledgment of transphobia or if they're having to hide Frankie's gender? I HAVE QUESTIONS 😂

Gwen called Frankie 'Francesca' and Sparky called her 'Franklin' not enough backstory for me to guess which way, but given Sparky's 'because you're you' comment, well... Unless there official lore I don't know (very possible) I rather lean that Frankie is trans. Kind of ironic since at the crane machine scene, I at first thought Andi was a boy until Gwen named her.

I can see the dig at capitalism, consumerism, the entertainment industry and acting industry. I can also see themes of escapism and possibly DV. Gwen reminds me of actresses/celebrities from the late 90s early 2000s who are told to be perfect but reach a breaking point. Olivia is like the abusive partner or the hellish manager or agent.
