Wished you watch Neal’s animatic but still a good video

Dragon0921

Definitely recommend AnniFlamma's animatics! Specifically her rendition of Ruthlessness, Thunderbringer and God Games!

Theking

YEAHHHHHHHHHH VENGEANCE SAGA!! Im so excited!

Dragon0921

- Devil Advocate for THIS version of Calypso (because the original version is irredeemable) she was cast away on an island when she was a child and isolated for over 100 years, hell she probably still has the mindset of a child. That mindset with being alone for so long I can see why she was so desperate to keep Odysseus for herself. Not justifying her actions AT ALL but considering the position she was in I get why she had such a death grip on Ody. I've seen similar stories of people doing morally questionable things being overwhelmed by loneliness and desperation. - the Gods (specifically Zues) are testing Odyssues and giving him temptations as his one last chance to make it home. He doesn't need a reason why cause he's a God. 🤷‍♀️ Fucking with mortals is their whole shtick. lol

Dragon0921

Neal's version of Get in the Water ends prematurely, so I understand why they didn't go with that one. maybe she can watch it during the rewatch video.

Mutiny by Kisu Draws

jessie H

She was cast away because she supported her father in the titans war, right?her father is Atlas?

Cassandra

“Next to my wife” is such a hard line and most people don’t have a big enough reaction to it, imo. I’m glad you liked it.

Dragon0921

I think so in the original story, but that could have been changed in this version.

LikeCat

Dangerous a.k.a. the moment I realized WHY the Stoll brothers (and every Hermes kid) are the way they are... HE is their dad. Also this entire song is so bizarrely good for Luke, he WAS a hero in the end 😢. Charibdys is Scylla's „neighbour"... She heard Ody sing this song. („If you got a thing to say" - paraphraseing - to the ONLY monster without a voice is so hilarious)

Theking

[Post watch comment] Ahhhhhhhh this saga is so amazing! I love it! And AH IM SO EXCITED FOR YOUR REACTION TO THE LAST SAGA Im expecting maybe some tears and A WHOLE LOT OF ANGER!! (In a good way, I promise)

Meloney Ruth

No longer you helluva boss version and no longer you by passingby sheep

So it’s not absent in the Odessey, but something I’m glad that Epic stresses is the humanisation of its antagonists. You get why Circe’s first reaction is so vicious, you can sympathise with Polyphemus who’s home was broken into and pets killed, Poseidon’s rage at the blinding of his son makes sense and you can understand why Calypso would be so possessive of the only person to visit her in centuries. Even Scylla is portrayed somewhat sympathetically, just doing what she needs to survive. Their actions aren’t excused, but even for the most monstrous acts you can see how that person was led there and why they feel as if they’re justified. It makes a fantastic tale so believable. For other videos to watch, VirusAP has an amazing Love in Paridise and a really unique (and majestic) take on Penelope in The Challenge. And of course Neal’s Get in the Water is incredible (and her hopefully soon to be released 600 Strike probably will be too).

I don’t have an alternative animation, but if you could react to a musical alien stage, that would be perfect. I’ve wanted you to react to it for so long.

EDHPlayer

Full honesty, Vengeance Saga has to be the weakest and worst of them all. From the music to the changes, it gives me the trope “Worf Had the Flu” vibes in the storytelling and musical composition, as we’ve seen better from previous sagas. So, again, fuck Kalypso. I refuse to see any animatic that isn’t done by Clover for the sole reason that it has one detail others don’t. Odysseus never once faces Kalypso. “Not Sorry for Loving You” might as well be renamed “Gaslighting: the Anthem”. It would have been far more satisfying to have a song where Hermes berates and chides Kalypso for being such a horrible host and that Zeus’ orders are absolute. In The Odyssey, Odysseus is so broken he at first believes he’s being tricked. So yeah, don’t feel sorry for Kalypso. To hell with her. The wind bag, oh man the fucking wind bag. It was just…SO unnecessary, but we’ll touch that in a moment. Then there’s Charybdis. As I said in Thunder Saga, Charybdis and Scylla share a strait and are one of the oldest examples of the phrase “between a rock and a hard place”. Charybdis was an impassible to pass whirlpool that would suck down everything and destroy it. ‘Fighting’ it was an impossibility. Regarding the wind bag. In The Odyssey, it was another sea god, Ino, that helped Odysseus by giving him a shroud that hid him from Poseidon’s vision. I’d had prefer something similar but with the wind bag, things could have been done differently. Then there’s “600 Strikes”, oh man the idea that a mortal could FIGHT and WOUND a god was incomprehensible to the Greeks. It only happened once, and it was by a man so badass that he was only surpassed by Achilles (Diomedes is the dude, look him up, he’s in The Iliad). And picking up a god’s weapon? Easier chances of making a 10 foot hole by kicking the dirt repeatedly. The last saga is my favorite, so I won’t have much to say about it. Probably.

Luís Pacheco

All of Gigi's animatics are incredible. I think you should watch her Ruthlessness, Legendary, and God Games animatics. (E ela é brasileiraaa 🇧🇷) MarComie is also incredible. He's done the three first songs so far (Horse and the infant, Just a man, Full speed ahead), and all the animatics are great. And finally I'd love if you watched Slander's animation for "Wouldn't you Like". It's just *chef's kiss*

Phoenix_mercury

the thing with calyposo, shes a goddess so whilst obvi "hundreds of years" is an insane time to be along(we'd literally die), its not as insane to a literal imortal being, its part of why ody's "its been 10 years" doesn't hold up against poseidon cz sure for him thats ridiculous(his son went fron infancy to adulthood) thats barely a snack break to a god, calypso could have had a great friendship whilst ody was their and made both their times whilst they was together bareable but instead she tortured ody, madnbooks and mortius both have great videos oh her songs

Phoenix_mercury

we're given no indication of a diff reason, also 100 years to a mortal vs a literal immortal goddess isnt even close, she could have made their time together bareable or even enjoyable but instead tortured poor ody

Xylia

For the Ithaca Saga, I recommend: Hold Them Down by Orange Odysseus by Duvetbox. Would You Fall in Love With MeAagain by Nya Tyan For alternative animatics so far, I recommend: Six Hundred Strike by Laritamiauu God Games by gigi

Dragon0921

There's no indication she tortured him outside of keeping him imprisoned and we don't know how the Gods perceive time. 100 years alone can still feel like agony to a God. And with how different Epic is from the original story I'm not writing anything in stone as to why she was abandoned unless we're specifically told.

Liam Gradwell

“Next to my wife” is my all time favourite line of this musical. The way it was delivered was just peak! 👏👏👏

Henry

You haven’t gotten to this song yet, but hold them down by Mr. Gamer on is so good. It is a 3d animation and it’s just amazing.

CB Jones

So, I get that that's a common perspective on immortality, but I'd argue we're never given much reason to apply it here. Calypso's defining drive is her crushing loneliness, her line “alone for 100 years, I had no friends but the sky and sun” reads at least to me that she felt every moment of it. She’s explaining exactly how long she’s been alone and the toll it’s taken on her not dismissing it as any less significant. (As for Poseidon, I’d argue that a lot of human parents would still hold a grudge 10 years later if you blinded one of their children, it’s definitely not something I could see myself finding easy to let go) Calypso saw Odessyus’ arrival as “a dream come true”, but couldn’t accept that dream might take any other form than the one she’d envisioned. Her tragedy is that while, yes, she had the opportunity to be less pushy, less bent on seduction and more accepting of his refusal, when given that opportunity she just wasn’t able or willing to do it, she believed she could have things exactly how she wanted if she just tried had enough. To paint it in a perhaps oversimplified way she ruined her chance at friendship by insisting their relationship had to be something Ody never wanted. Which frankly is something I’ve seen plenty of people do even without the centuries of isolation. None of this is to argue she was justified, she wasn’t and I don’t think that’s what the song is trying to say either, but I appreciate how the time was taken to humanise her and the other gods, monsters and men that stand in Odysseus’ way. It makes them more believable, engaging and lends weight to Ody’s struggles against them.

tapdisneyintome

Much like with Morgan, instead of recommendations for alt animatics, I'm going to put forth but chill funny things like Divine Sugar Mama, Danny's Epic journey animatic and Smash - funny things to release tension and see a little how some other reactors handled certain characters and moments in humourous ways.

Phoenix_mercury

This is a spoiler, maybe delete the song name

BGTitan

This saga is actually my least favorite but that's not saying much when the whole musical is so dang good. Not Sorry for Loving You: Alright so this.... is a divisive song as you can imagine since Calypso herself is a divisive character. But the way I look at it, is that this is purely from Calypso's POV. This is purely her feelings on the matter. What I do like though is the use of "if you hate me then I'm sorry my loves too much of you" because... wow. She still doesn't quite see what's wrong with this situation. It carries the same tone as "sorry you feel that way". Which I believe is intentional on the writing's part. There's some debate on if Ody's "i love you but not in the way you want me to" was because he genuinely developed some sort of ... idk like... not stockholm syndrome but kind of. Or if he was just saying it so that she'd let him go easier or... idk. I can appreciate Calypso's plight but girl.... Not a song I listen to regularly but Barbara's voice is phenomenal, and I do enjoy the part where the tempo picks up a bit. Dangerous: I think it's illegal for Hermes not to have a bop of a song. Full Speed Ahead - "600 men under my command, with only one goal in mind" "Make it back alive to our homeland" vs Dangerous - "600 deaths under my command, because I had one goal in mind" "..." That silence is deafening. The callback to Keep Your Friends Close makes me wish Aeolus came back!!!! Ahhh!!! I miss that tricky little thing!!! Charybdis: A good transition song. That last bit where his voice gets all hopeful and soft kills me every time because unfortunately.... it's time to get in the water. Get In the Water: I think it is also illegal for Poseidon to not sing bangers. One last try of Open Arms and... nope. Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves, I'm afraid. 600 Strike: He literally had no choice but to open the windbag at that point. It was open the bag and have a fighting chance or die. Plus, Poseidon was literally right in front of him blocking his path anyway. So... Something I absolutely love about Duvet’s animatic for this one is that with each stab there’s a flash of someone that Ody blames himself for their death. “How does it feel to be helpless?” The infant. “I watched my friends die in horror!” Polites. “I heard their final moments, calling their captain in vain!” The 557 men. “Look what you turned me into!” The Siren. “All of the pain that I’ve been through!” Eury (backstabbed by the way). They went so hard on this animatic and I thank them for it. “Next to my wife.” Sickest mic drop in this whole show. Damn. Can't believe next week is the last saga! That is crazy man! I'm so looking forward to your reaction!

Punchx11

Hey Elijah, just for some more context about Calypso she is actually considered to be one of the “good” gods. She’s a god but she’s the daughter of a titan (it’s debated on which one specifically I.E. Atlas, etc…). This is why she was punished/cursed by the main gods (Zeus and etc…) not cause she did anything but because she’s the byproduct of the titans. That’s typically why whenever someone lands on her island she doesn’t try to kill them but instead she takes care of them on her island of paradise. another thing to note is that any mortal who lands on her island typically looses track of time so which is why it was an extra 7 years it wasn’t entirely intentional. BUT!!! This is pretty accurate to the odyssey (the SA stuff) WHICH IS HORRIBLE , but it dose show us that she was over whelmed by love and loneliness which explains why she acted the way she did, STILL NOT AN EXCUSE, but in the odyssey she ends up helping Odysseus after Zeus intervenes resulting in her helping him leave her island with outside help (I.E. help from the other gods like Hermes/athena.)

SauceyRed

Copy-pasted my reply on Morgan’s post asking for alternate animatics: Took me a good half hour to make this lmao Open Arms by mircsy Warrior of the Mind by mircsy Ruthlessness by AnniFlamma Ruthlessness by gigi Wouldn't You Like by Ximena Natzel God Games by gigi Love in Paradise from the livestream (timestamped link https://youtu.be/ZHyJotwNoAo?t=1760) If you’re wondering why I didn’t go past the Wisdom saga, it’s because I’ve only watched the livestream animatics for the Vengeance and Ithaca sagas, and only a selection of fan animatics for them once (through another reactor), which I don’t even remember.

Jasmine

In this saga, it didn't make what Calypso did any better, but I was able to better understand why she did it, even if it didn't make it better

Henkotron

Gigi's God Games is super cool, too. I would love to see your reaction to that.

Gihellcy

"How will you sleep at night ?" "... Next to my wife." That was a BALLSY LINE Ody' my dude ~~ And remember kids : you can't kill a god, but you can still torture them 8'DDD

Henkotron

Also Get in the Water by Anniflamma is extremely amazing

Foxflight (Shiloh | Fox)

Here's some recommendations for alternative animations! These are all some of my absolute favorites. Get In The Water by Neal Illustrator There Are Other Ways by PimPichc Legendary by Gigi Open Arms by Formerly Human Keep Your Friends Close by Mircsy

Natasha Grimm

I would certainly recommend literally everything by Gigi and Annaflamma that you haven't already reacted to. Everything they release is amazing

Ashley Silver

If you're looking for alternative animatics, The Horse and The Infant + Just A Man by özberk özen is pretty good.

Nixx

PIMPICHC MENTIONED⁉️

Thunder

Note: a lot of that was popularized by Rick Riordan and the Percy Jackson series. There doesn't seem to be any historical basis for the idea that Calypso is cursed or otherwise confined to Ogigia (which is the name of her island). In fact, in the Odyssey when Hermes arrives to deliver Zeus's decree that Calypso has to release Odysseus, she explicitly refuses to give him any aid in leaving. She does go on quite a rant about double-standards when it comes to Gods taking lovers though.

Morgana D. Valarys

I'm gonna be repeating what a lot of other people have said, but Get in the Water by Neal Illustrator is a Masterpiece and one of my favorites. Likes most of Neal's work tbh. But another great animatic is God Games by Anniflamma! Also, little note for anyone who loves Neal's Illustrator work, they have a webtoon comic where they post little stories about the Greek gods, it's called Famtheon and it's very cool!

Punchx11

Omg thank you for letting me know! So sorry for the misinformation everyone disregard what I said!

Phoenix_mercury

One thing I say to a lot of people who are potentially sympathetic to her, usually its cz of how she sounds so I recc looking up the lyrics and imagining either someone saying this to you after being held hostage for 7 years or a close friend/family member telling you that they was told these things by someone ignoring all their boundaries and trying to get them to forget their family, not having the music and voice has made people ik cringe at reading them

Phoenix_mercury

Dw PJO has done *so* much damage (if I see one more "she was cursed to love" comment imma scream)

Phoenix_mercury

I see Ody's ily primarily as panic(appease her or she could refuse to let him go, he has no reason to think she couldn't after the past 7 years)

Phoenix_mercury

We're given no reason to think that she doesn't know humans have shorter life spans so *obviously* 100 will sound like a lot thus: if I say "the truth"(the length of time) I'll get pity/sympathy ect from this mortal because it'll sound like so long and he'll feel bad I was alone so long as not want to leave after all, but Ody doesn't respond that way and continues wanting/to leave, we hear what she believes and what someone believes isn't necessarily always the truth, for example during dangerous Ody clearly believed Hermes is the one that fought for him which isn't the truth which Ody only learns at the end(though not who actually did), just like calypso clearly believed she had the *right* to Ody which was obviously wrong

Phoenix_mercury

Imprisonment is torture, sxual harassment for 7 whole years is torture(whether she SA'd him or not) also a channel called madnbooks went over the time thing, to paraphrase from her vid on GITW about it's been 10 years "it's barely a snack break" yet for humans Ody's kid went from a kid(beginning of epic) to a whole ass adult

Evil Queen

All I can think about is Morgan Clae covering Get in the Water, highly recommend that one too. Can’t wait to see your reaction to the Ithaca Saga!

NamelessSoul

Not sorry for loving you is my least favorite of the entire musical but even still its a good song. The whole situation with Calypso is shitty. The end of this is changed the most from the origional story and while it kinda threw me at first I get the change, the fight with Poseidon is a more dramatic narrative and it was done well.

Dartinin Vader

Feel free to correct me on this but form what I've been told she did not hold him hostage she was not allowed to leave either, it was the other gods such as Zues that was holding them both hostage. It's like being held in a room by a some man with a woman in that room and then getting pissed because that woman is not letting you out while she doesn't have the keys to do so either. If she could leave wouldn't she have done so in the last 100 years and I would legitimately like to see the person who can say after spending 100 years alone with no promise you would ever see anyone again in your life that would willingly give up the first person they ever met and let them leave even if she had the power to do so. Its one thing to say its the right thing to do another to do it. I would say she made the best out of a shitty situation based on her little experience with speaking to others. And if the magic forcing her to fall in love with the first person she met was also a thing like I heard then she had no choice but to fall for him no mater what was right or wrong in the story. So while I would not consider her or the song one to emulate I don't hate her because she is at worst a sympathetic villain and at best a victim.

Rixec2

You definitely need to see Neal's Get in the Water/600 Strike if you already haven't. And what makes Get in the Water even more meaningful is that Odysseus is trying one last time not to be the monster. He tried to be one and saw the results. He desperately wants to hope compassion, mercy, and forgiveness can still work. But Poseidon denied him that, forcing him to be ruthless.
