My never-ending quest to endorse AnniFlamma, who made The Challenge animatic in this video, continues! I urge you to react to her versions of Ruthlessness, Thunder Bringer and God Games! She is SO creative with how she interprets moments in those songs!

Fun fact Num. 1: during „The Challange" when the suitors say „The man of the house" you can hear Ody singing „Penelope" in the background. Num. 2: There is a version of Epic on Youtube with lyrics on screen and most of the important characters have specific colored names - most of the monsters have red and Ody had blue, up until the end of the Cyclops Saga where it turned to red (signaling his change to a monster - YES those red eyes were Ody's) and during THE last song it turned back to blue. Num. 3: He trapped them like Polithemus, in his own house like Circe, he aimed for the torches like Scylla and was ruthless like Posaidon. ... ... Ody mic-drop moment is never NOT absolutely cold.

Easily my favorite of the whole thing, from The Challenge to WYFILWMA. So fun fact! After “Hold Them Down”, if you put the titles of the remaining songs together with a comma in between them, you get “Odysseus, I Can’t Help But Wonder, Would You Fall in Love With Me Again”. So to start off with, “The Challenge” kinda speedruns through Penelope’s arc in The Odyssey. The shroud she speaks about is something that is gradually talked about in The Odyssey, mostly when she’s getting pressured into picking a suitor she counters with “oh no I need to finish my shroud first” while unweaving a good chunk of her progress each night. It isn’t until one of her servants catches her and snitches to a suitor she’s been having an affair with that the secret comes out. So then she is forced to quit stalling and pick a suitor. She agrees, but creates a challenge that will pick for her. Except the challenge is impossible unless you are a Greek Hero. So it effectively is rigged. I believe I mentioned this in WISDOM SAGA, but the suitors are a lot less…”vile” for the lack of a better term. They toe the line when it comes to breaking the rules of sacred hospitality, and when they KNOW they are gonna they do it in some very roundabout ways. They wouldn’t dare attempt to kill Telemachus on Ithaca, nor would they even discuss the idea of taking Penelope by force. They were aware that there was a line that, when crossed, meant certain doom. Yet they had toed the line too much, which was used as a reason for Athena to push forward a plan that would bring Odysseus home and slaughter the suitors. The slaughter itself in The Odyssey was confined to a single room, rather than the whole palace. Penelope had actually watched the competition for a solid few hours before leaving. Telemachus had stayed, and he had long returned from his trip, which was to ascertain the status of Odysseus. He did participate in the slaughter, standing alongside Papa. Telemachus had actually crossed paths with Odysseus long before the slaughter. Odysseus was disguised as a wandering beggar, but when meeting Telemachus, Athena had his disguise dropped. That was where they planned to kill the suitors. I have very few words for “Would You Fall in Love With Me Again”. It’s an amazing song, with a lot of emotion and powerful tones. My one issue with it is the lyric “the tree where we first me”. That tree would have been in Sparta, where Penelope looked until marrying Odysseus. The tree that was used to carve their bed was where they were wed. The biggest thing to remember is that EPIC is first and foremost and adaptation, and not a fully accurate one. To use it as a basis for any knowledge regarding The Odyssey is a mistake and a disservice to the actual writings.

The last saga! I really enjoyed this reaction, and I can’t wait to see what you think of the other animatics out there. My recommendations would be Neal Illustrator’s animatic of Just A Man - absolutely brilliant 🙂 Also, Mr Gameron’s version of Hold Them Down, Scylla by VirusAP, No Longer You by Gwendy, God Games by Anniflamma, The Challenge by VirusAP (featuring buff Penelope - she is a Spartan woman in the mythology), and Open Arms by Mircsy are all animatics that I recommend

I really like Odysseus having parallels with the monsters he fought, like all the monsters the song title is his name, something that only monsters have, like Scylla he is going for the torches and like the cyclops he is using extra reach to kill

For alternative animatics, I recommend: Would You Fall in Love With Me Again by Nya Tyan Six Hundred Strike by Laritamiauu God Games by gigi I believe a full animation and broadway musical is in the works, with Jorge Rivera-Herrans working on the Iliad epic musical currently as well. I think I also heard a game was being made for it too. I would completely watch the broadway musical and consume everything Epic: The Musical has branched out to. So brilliantly good!

To echo some people in the comments, Anniflamma's animatics are truly delightful and sooo well animated, especially "Ruthlessness" and "Thunder Bringer," and Gigi's "God Games" is also especially good. Have you considered reacting to the cut songs? Most are quite interesting and short; it wouldn't be difficult to make a video going through most of them.

The Challenge: We've heard the singer for Penelope before. In Ody’s dream in Keep Your Friends Close, and as the siren back in the Thunder Saga. But her first proper introduction to the musical is soooooo good man. She sounds incredible! And immediately we understand why Ody loves this woman. What a queen. Hold Them Down: As uncomfortable as the lyrics get, the vocals go so hard! Why he sing so good?! Odysseus: The cathartic slaughter we’ve all been waiting for! The final boss being our boy here! Honestly couldn’t have happened to a bigger group of bastards. Aiming for the torches… like Scylla. I Can’t Help But Wonder: First off, I’m sorry for your loss. I could definitely see how this would be an emotional one. Those harmonies!!!!!!!!! This song is so sweet man. And then that closure with Athena, how they’ve swapped places essentially. Ugh. Pain. WYFILWMA: Quickest way to make me cry is to play this song. I can’t. It never fails. Tears every time. Penelope’s voice is just… so powerful. So good. Crazy. I need a love like Ody and Penelope. And as the great poet once said: that’s the end of that. You actually nailed the fact that Penelope, in the Myth, is in fact originally the daughter of a Spartan King. You’re also correct about them being very strong. Spartan’s understood that should the army fall, the Women would be the last line of defense, so they were trained in wrestling, gymnastics, and the use of weapons. Making them not only strong, but LEGENDARILY beautiful. Homer occasionally called Sparta Kalligynaika “The Land of Beautiful Women”.

Others have already said but yeah Penelope was a Spartan princess so it only makes sense that she is physically fit and as you can see she is smart as hell, wit on equal par with Odessy, (her test was pretty much to confirm not just her but to Odessa himself that he is the man she loves) no wonder he's crazy for her. I don't think anyone had a dried eye when "Would you fall in love with me again" played, I sure didn't. For animatics I for sure recommend the rest of Gigi's epic animatics, Legendary and God Games and check out Gwendy's for sure.

Welcome to the end of this amazing retelling. So many great lines, with deep meanings. Jorge is a great writer: Penelope saying she is "buying you time," instead of "stalling for time" and "my husband's old bow," instead of "my old husband's bow," show how she didn't doubt that he was still alive out there somewhere, and trying to get home. "I would rather die, than grow old without the best of you" dropping the stalling and politicking and laying out in no uncertain terms that NONE of these men measure up to her husband, and if they can't pull off EVEN a "party trick" that Odysseus used to do for laughs, then she would reject them all and end it.

Penelope really shows why she is the one Odysseus fell for. She's just as smart as him and matches his energy. When he gets upset over being asked to remove their bed, she doesn't cower away from his anger. She matches his energy and assures him no matter what he's done, he is still her husband who cherishes what matters to them both. She listens to him and allows him to get everything off his chest, finally able to feel relief after all he's carried for so long.
