Mosco in her most recent reaction: You better not hurt Qrow, writers! Elijah in her most recent reaction: How dare you hurt Qrow, writers! Funny how that synched up.

FullmetalNinja25

The song playing during Ironwood vs. Watts is called "Hero" and its sung by Caleb Hyles who does alot of great covers of songs including several RWBY songs.

Suplee215

The one thing the "just following order" thing is tbis isnt the first time we got that message. The ace ops previously said they do what Ironwood says so he can take on the burden of making the choices and all the soldiers got to do is their mission as best they can. They see it as a positive ajd while it can be, the obvious flaw in that is happening.

Phoenix_mercury

funny how stuff synched, again... one lost Penny the same week the other got her back, now they both get a Qrow Vs Tyrian fight in the same week

Elijah I hope you see this (or mods make you aware of it), there is a video called „Luck Semblences explained by PhoenixNight" that is a really good deep-dive into Luck Semblences AND this chaotic Qrow vs. Tyrian vs. Clover fight

Salem: Yo Mama Ruby: *Mental Breakdown*

Solus

This was an amazing reaction, and I was really wanting to see Elijah's reaction to these two episodes in particular, the scene with Salem talking about Ruby's mother and the ending to ep 12. Also, Hero (feat. Caleb Hyles) the song that played when Ironwood fought Watts, was such a banger, I love that song and listen to it on a regular basis.

Suplee215

Agree. This is one of the most interesting trolley problems. Which never has an easy answer. To steel man Ironwood's point, he js convinced Mantle cant be saved. Salem herself has never attacked directly that we know of. What happened to beacon was just on her orders. So to him the choice is save some people and try to deal with salem later or all die. The people in atlas can research technology and otber things to defeat salem. Cant do that if everyone is dead. Its still not tbe choice I will make. But he just spent so much effort and resources tk defeat her 2 henchmen. And all along she was invading amd he had no idea. And wasnt even able to figure out cinder was there til now. Just like at beacon

Natasha Grimm

Oh, the ways we all died inside whenever you said you shipped Qrow and Clover. Sorry you had to repeat all of our mistake

Suplee215

Overall I just couldn't bring myself to abandon that many peoole. My compromise to an extent will be to send the winter maiden and the relics into space on an empty atlas. Still not perfect. At all.

Episode 11: Arthur Watts is based on John Watson from Sherlock Holmes, like if Watson joined Moriarty instead. And yeah, he's really just a petty bitch whose ego got bruised. Tale as old as time. This is the moment we’ve been building toward all season, hell, since V2. Ironwood’s Strength Is Victory mentality and his ever-increasing paranoia finally hit their breaking point. And all it took for it to culminate was one little chess piece. Love that his plan is basically to just take the rich of Atlas and bail though, hopefully wait out the immortal being that can’t die while she destroys not only Mantle but the rest of Remnant. Well, it’s not surprising considering he’s always seen Mantle as “just a few city blocks” and has shown disregard for the people there the entire time. I mean, he didn’t even bother to change the code down in Mantle (yes, I’m harping on this again because it’s so infuriating! He knows that someone hacked their system, saw the destruction they wrecked, and doesn’t bother to change the damn code in Mantle because he’s never cared about the people down there other than how to keep them under control but that just gave Watts back door access! Like for frick’s sake James!) Another thing I love is the parallels between this and the last time we saw Summer back in the V6 finale. In V6 the camera smoothly moves toward her, the sun is shining, and Summer turns to face Ruby/the camera, smiling. The music is hopeful and inspiring, and it leads to Ruby doing something incredible. This time, however, it is quite the opposite. With each cut to Summer the camera is pulling further away from her, the clouds are dark and grey, and Summer turns away from Ruby/the camera. Each cut is accompanied by these awful, shrieking strings that just make everything uneasy, and it ends with Ruby crying on the floor. It’s so good, man! Also, fun fact, the Gravity biome that Watts and James fight in was a concept they had back in V3 but they had neither the time nor budget to manifest it. So they finally got to show it off here. Episode 12: Yeah, when you said you shipped FairGame (the Qrow and Clover ship) I knew this episode was gonna hurt you. Oh Clover, a loyal soldier following orders until the very end. Looks like your luck finally ran out. To clarify that whole thing, Qrow tried to focus solely on Tyrian, but Clover kept cutting in (because he’s truly a product of Atlas and the military, unable to truly think for himself) and so Qrow just wanted to get Clover out of the fight so he could get at Tyrian without interruption. But sadly, once he broke Clover’s aura, his semblance kicked in full force and Clover’s semblance was out (also, Clover is so used to his semblance keeping him safe like it did two episodes ago, that he doesn’t even think to watch his back). Meanwhile, we have the fight with RWBY and the Ace Ops, and this is such a cool set piece. They literally yin/yang the Bees with their final attack on Elm. And with War kicking in once Vine goes down, it’s so freakin hype.

Addy

So...so Clover got the Marcy treatment. Minus the rejuvenation tank 😭

Nehps

On the rwby versus ironwood question: that is one that did a bit of damage to the community some people saying a lot of mean things about people who had opinions on that matter on either side. On oh no neo is hot: I recommend reading or listening to her book Roman Holiday by E.C. Myers. Not as a you should react to this but as a I think you might enjoy this if you want to know more about the character)

melini_29

In the wise words of Penny at the beginning of the Volume: It'll be just like Beacon again! :D

SportySpice

I think a point that gets lost in Ironwood’s plan is Ruby’s line “we have the chance to unite the world”. It sounds like a platitude, but it has main plot ramifications. We know “judgment day” is coming if all the relics are joined — the Brothers said either humanity 2.0 is united or it’s done. Atlas abandoning Mantle and the world makes it an absolute certainty Remnant will never unite. So his entire hope is that it protects the relics and Salem never figures out how to get up there, meanwhile ensuring her victory with the Brothers in finally getting to die alongside Remnant if she ever does get them. So basically, on top of Ironwood’s plan being inhumane, it’s also short-sighted and illogical. The endgame isn’t capture the flag — it’s uniting humanity.

LikeCat

Knowing his Semblence just adds SO MUCH charatorization to his character.

SportySpice

I think the show not dropping a line about what is his semblance actually is was a huge miss on their part. That shouldn’t have been out-of-show trivia. I think it stands on its own, but in show vs tell, you gotta at least pick ONE. (I say this with great love for the show, but I think the writers sometimes forget that what they take as fact/lore isn’t always conveyed. Ironwood is paranoid and dug in, but we don’t know there’s more anchoring that)

Enchanted_Echo

You see........when Clover's aura broke his good luck semblance went away, that's when Qrow's bad luck semblance kicked in and thus then ended any form of good luck that was remained. However, this right here is my favorite fight scene of RWBY with Qrow, Clover, and Tyrian because it is VERY hard to do a successful 1v1v1 and make it balance. You can even tell even after the team up, Tyrian in a way was still trying to take them both out, Qrow was being careful and not hit clover too bad but get Tyrian, Clover was trying to get them both but easier on Qrow while Tyrian was just going f it and get them both down. We apologize for you getting excited about Qrow and Clover considering where the two of them were going to end up Even back in volume 2 you said you were skeptical of Ironwood being corrupted with power and you were right in a sense as you can see with how he is doing right now all because of fear and the tin man has lost his heart and humanity. We also have another piece to the puzzle about Summer and what happened but with one question answered 10 more takes it place. When it comes to fighting like you said with team RWBY (Ruby & Weiss, along with Yake & Blang) they compliment each other so well in fight scenes and it's so nice to see them working together how they have each others back making them a force to be reckoned with. Welcome back to Volume 3 of RWBY it will be just like Beacon again.......

K0ppar

"it's just like season 3" - Elijah, now "it'll be just like beacon again!" - Penny, at the start of the volume Also kudos to Oscar for being one of the few people to land a hit on Neo

Tammy Ragsdale

So, way back in volume 6, in the scene where Hazel is reporting to Salem, he tells her the children are heading to Atlas with the relic and are being led by Ozpin. Watts says something like, oh no, he's the one person who could get through to Ironwood. Getting Ironwood to do their job for them and split the people of Mantle and Atlas was always their plan. That's what Salem means by their goal not being victory, but rather, setting the stage for her. As for Ironwood, I'll wait till next chapter to finish this thought, but he was always one bad day away from this. There were hints. Right in the text. I can understand people pointing out the areas where he is right and where the others are right for following. I get it. James has always been our morally grey father figure. To me, that just makes the narrative better. I loved James, but I loved watching his fall, too. Liking him just makes it more compelling. I'll give Clover and Winter a little more grace than the Ace-Ops. They weren't privy to the whole conversation that led up to Ruby's message. The literally only know that Ironwood has ordered the arrest and what Ruby said on the scroll. They have good reason to trust James because he has always had their backs. Winter likely thinks she'll get the powers, report to James and get more information. Clover, in the same vein, likely thinks, he'll bring Qrow in and then they can settle things. Qrow ended up, really, having no choice in going against Clover with Tyrian. Clover was all but ignoring the actual bad guy to go after Qrow. He'd just give Tryrian a swipe or pull him out of the way when he had to. I don't think Qrow thought a punch to the stomach would break Clover's aura. That was his bad luck kicking in.

Tammy Ragsdale

Other post was getting long, so I decided to do this in a second one. Sorry, just really like the ending of this volume so much. RWBY vs Ace-Ops in one of my favorite fights in the whole show. It does such a good job highlighting the difference between "these are just people I work with" and "these are people I care about and I won't let you hurt them." They've been touching on this the whole volume and it comes home to roost in this fight. Ruby doesn't have to beat Harriet. She just has to keep her out of the other fights. Otherwise, she'd be using her speed to keep everyone's attacks from landing. It looks like she lets Harriet push her back into the office so she can block Marrow's hit on Weiss, then she speeds back out to lure Harriet away again. Marrow can freeze any kind of creature, and he can do more than one, but it takes effort and he has to hit them all at once. So, Weiss defeats him and is able to go help Ruby finish Harriet. Now the Bees are even more used to this kind of teamwork and it shows. They start out going two on two, but that's not working as well as they'd like because Vine and Elm keeping concentrating on Blake. So, when Yang gets Blake free from Vine that last time, they manage to come up with a new plan with just a look. The Ace-Ops, on the other hand, are actually bickering. Once they get Vine down, it's not just Elm, but everyone who understands the Ace-Ops are in trouble now.

Isadora

I lost it at "I never pegged you" XD That took a bit of the pain out of the whole situation.

SportySpice

Another thing I want to shout out is that Ruby wins the Ace Ops fight the second she uses Harriet’s anger and competitiveness to separate her from the team. Harriet’s speed makes her a KO while combatants are distracted so she’s meant to be effective with her teammates, but Ruby pissing her off to keep her focused on only Ruby makes this fight possible. I love all the choreography in Ace OPs vs RWBY (especially the crazy unspoken strategies and synergies with Blake and Yang), but worth giving Ruby her flowers there. I also love Winter acknowledging her “personal feelings” giving her faith she’s doing the right thing because her logic is basically “if I feel uncomfortable and hate myself, this MUST be the right path because I deserve to be miserable”. She’s so funny/tragic.

Tessa Nyx

Penny earlier this volume: “It’ll be just like Beacon again!”

RetroBeastto

This is just like Volume 3 and it’s always crazy seeing peoples reaction to this volume. Something interesting to know is that the Ace Ops (General Iron Wood’s team) is based off the Aesop's Fables which is a series of fables with those respective characters being the moral of their story. As always love your reactions and keep up the good work~

The Laughing Man

Yup this is when James' semblance truly starts warping his mind, such a tragic character.

CheetsAC7

The scene in the office is one of my favorites. The slow transition on all of the girl's faces as they come to realize what they're going to have to do. The logic behind James' plan is basically "Last One Standing". Atlas will survive for as long as James can make it happen, no mattter how much must be sacrificed. There isn't much, if any, humanity in the plan, this is about winning the game. It's the minimal risk plan, but because it takes no risks it's unlikely, if not impossible, to win. James ultimately let the fear get to him, allowing him to adopt this plan.

Ryan

Chapter 11: Elijah always leaves us subtle context clues in the thumbnail and, gays, I think something bad happens in this episode. Just a hunch... "Get him from behind!" accidental foreshadowing is accidental... I don't know if James got third degree burns on his arm, or if it got degloved (don't Google it), but either way, fucking OW. Scary how good Tyrian is that it takes three professional huntsman to bring him down. Chapter 12: Qrow: "Never pegged you-" Elijah: "You should fix that!" ELIJAH! ---- The oft repetition of "just following orders" ... that's pointed. The right thing to do is to save as many lives as you can. But the devil is in the details - if you save everyone in this battle, but lose everyone in the next, was it worth it? You have to consider the long game, but with an immortal opponent, you can't take too long of a view. But, in there here and now, there's still time to evacuate Mantel, to fortify Atlas, and dig in for the fight. They don't know what's coming - but they can send out scouts. They'll have a Maiden, Silver Eyes, Penny, and if everyone will stop fucking fighting, more than dozen top tier hunters. The right thing to do is to stand and fight. Even if it's only to buy time for the others to escape. ---- The symmetry with volume three - a moment of brutality rendered in stylized silhouette, the power of a Maiden about to be passed by force, an impending showdown with Cinder, the team divided... it's like poetry, it rhymes. All of this has happened before, and will happen again. Wait, wrong show...

CB Jones

Is Watts just petty? Kind of but there's a bit more there. Everyone in Atlas, even pietro who spends most of his time in mantle, dresses in clean white and bright blues/ other colours. Watts dresses in drab and muted colours, like a citizen of Mantle. Add to that how naturally he navigates the twisting alleyways and the note of bitterness in his voice about mantle security not being updated, and we can infer a bit more of his past. He grew up, like everyone in Mantle, in poverty. Worked relentlessly to gain the respect his Atlesian peers were given freely and then, at the pinnacle of his career, was shut down so an Atlesian could build himself a daughter. This is mostly speculative, but it would make sense for him turning his back to be more of a last straw kind of deal than an isolated incident.

Rachel Mae

You: "it's just like volume 3 all over again!" ANNNNNND this is why I say the most ominous line in v7 is when Penny says it'll be just like Beacon again in the second episode lol Salem's interaction with Ruby is one of my favorites in the whole series. Took our poor girl out with a single well placed "lol ur mom" Also I simply think that if I was in a fight with two people who suddenly SMIRKED at each other the way Blake and Yang did i'd just give up. Call it quits right there they already won 😂 The thing with Clover and Qrow is such a shame.By the time Clover does get Tyrian restrained at the end, he's already ignored Tyrian in favor of going after Qrow multiple times. With his semblance he was so used to things working out in his favor that he seemed to stupidly believe he could manage the fight between both Qrow and Tyrian all on his own and paid the price for it Lots of moments in the finale that are iconic to me can't wait to see your thoughts on them

CB Jones

And why does Clover keep attacking Qrow instead of teaming up against Tyrian? I can think of two reasons. Firstly, practical. Ironwood has ordered Qrow’s arrest, he’s a skilled huntsman who was part of Oz’s inner circle and has at least 9 allies in Atlas roaming free. Tyrian is a skilled murderer who’s only known ally in Atlas is in a cell (Clover doesn’t know about Cinder). He has no resources or means of getting to Atlas so he’s only a threat to people in Mantle, and Ironwood is abandoning them anyway. Simply put, his loyalty is to Ironwood and Qrow is the bigger threat to Ironwood, even if Tyrian is the bigger threat to Clover. The second reason is Clover himself. Remember how Ren said that semblances usually relate to who people are. Clover is lucky. He grew up in the richest kingdom, presumably in a comfortable family, found that he had a talent for combat, graduated top of his classes (source: that guy’s description of the Ace Ops in the second episode), and was elevated to be one of Ironwood’s most trusted officers. And all the while everything always goes his way. Clover is an example of absolute privilege, it’s why he is so convinced Ironwood is right. The system has always been good to him, so it must be right! But this is also a man who’s probably won every fight he’s been in because his semblance won’t let him lose. He took them both on because he believed he’d win, because he always won. That’s just how his life was.

CB Jones

I remember when Vol2 first came out there was a throw away line about Ironwood holding 2 seats on the Atlas council, and being only a handful of years out of school back then with my courses in 21st century history (relatively) fresh in my mind alarm bells started going off. RWBY's foreshadowing is always so well laid. But honestly my favourite part of Ironwood's fall is how little he changes. We start the volume with him diverting resources away from Mantle while there's grimm in the streets so he can build Amity. He was willing then to let the people of Mantle suffer and die if it helped Atlas. And at the end of the volume? It's the same thing. Just a little more direct.

CrowOfAFeather

Yeah that last chapter is...heart wrenching to say the least. Arthur Watts is based on Wattson from Sherlock, if Wattson had partnered up with Moriarty instead of Sherlock, with Arthur coming from the author, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Clover was more loyal than anything, and never gave Qrow a chance to team up against what actually was the bigger threat. That and his Semblance likely made him too confident that he'd win. Neo proves to be a threat and a thorn yet again...and I absolutely hate that the 14 y.o farmboy somehow managed to land a super telegraphic punch on her instead of Yang getting to. This was actually another miscommunication error. Oscar was supposed to come around a corner and catch her by surprise, like right next to her, instead of dashing down the long hallway and land said telegraphic punch. Can't wait for your reaction to the finale next week! In the meantime we'll have Mosco continuing V4 tomorrow :D

CosmicTransmtation

I'll go against the grain to say I love that Clover did what he did and Qrow did what he did and got him killed.

Potato

I truly adore this shows character writting They have so many diffirent personalities and all of them are marvelously handled. Even watts who is supposed to be such a petty villain, hes petty out of intention and you can tell its intentional because there are so so many villains written so many diffirent ways. Tyrian is a phychotic crazy weirdo, lionheart was a coward who submitted to whatever side could get him to survive, cinder is power hungry, james because a villain after he lost his humanity and mind in the attempt to beat their enemy and more whos goals and reasons are revealed later down the line. There are so many diffirent cases so you can tell every characters personality was intentional not just because petty villain for example was "the best they could do"

Potato

Its so easy to forget some times that even passive semblences like theirs are also tied to their aura so it counts on it being up to work. Thats such a tragic detail it makes it even worse some how when you view it as his luck finally running out

Potato

Also just leaving this piece of advice here. Volume 7 isnt as much of a mental and emotional shittery even compared to volume 8 :] so its very exciting cause the show realllyyyy takes it turn to go dark but i do have a slight suspicion that volume 7 and 8 back to back is both amazing (because theres no cliffhanger delay) and an experience that needs therapy after XD

Bug Catcher Jacky

No, not this episode. I just watched it, I can't do this again ;-;

Potato

Oh she will need it XD noone expected this show to get so dark when we all started it

Zirkumflex

To quote Penny from earlier this Volume: "It'll be jut like Beacon again!" In the end Clover's luck ran out. Regarding Tyrian's backstory: We did get some of it earlier when Clover pulled up Tyrian's record. When you pause it there you can readit. It's very appropriate for Tyrian. And lastly a parallel: In Volume 6 team RWBY also had a similar choice of sacrificing defenceless people to not bring the relic in danger. Back then they chose the exact same way as they did now, protecting people instead of sacrificing them for the greater good.

Jeremy-Geo

Your reaction to clover's death .... too real. i shipped them so hard when this season was airing, i was DEVASTED by this episode literally took me a year to recover haha

If Clover wasn’t such a FUCKING COP we could’ve had EVERYTHING

Flufux

Dr Arthur Watts at least got his name from Doctor Watson from Sherlock Holmes, and his first name from Arthur Conan Doyle, the guy who wrote the Sherlock Holmes books. Though Watts' personality is more based on Moriarty. A part of Tyrian's backstory was actually in the hologram report that Clover put up a few episodes ago, at least if you pause and read it. He's meanwhile based on the fable the Scorpion and the Frog, which fits him perfectly...especially so in this episode. A scorpion asks a frog to help it catch a ride across a river, promising not to sting the frog...and yet, when they're both halfway across, it stings the frog anyway, killing them both in the process, and when the frog asks why, all it can say is: "It's my nature." That scene with him, Qrow and Clover really feels like it encapsules that tale perfectly.

Hollyhock

What an absolute rollercoaster, huh?

LikeCat

Me *reads Scorpion and the Frog tale anywhere in any context* My mind: Immidiately starts playing the „Molly tries (and kinda fails) to teach Nott a lesson with a simple a comeback like this - „What happens in the end?" „Whatever Caleb says happens" "

Oh HELL YEAH LET’S GO! Epic Ironwood vs Watts fight! By the way, the song that plays during that fight is sung by Caleb Hyles, a popular singer on YouTube who covered a bunch of RWBY songs back in the day and even featured Casey Lee Williams, the main singer of the RWBY songs! I remember being so fucking happy when I heard about that lmao (though ngl I don’t remember if I was caught up with RWBY and learned about it before this chapter released or if I was still behind and learned about it afterward)

Bryan Forquer

So yeah, definitely a lot of heartbreak for these two episodes. First off the fight between Ironwood and Watts is one of my favorites, very well done. Now pretty much everyone acts like Ironwood is the villain, but most people forget that Ironwood was loyal to team RWBY pretty much from the moment they landed in Atlas. James included them in on his plans for the new communications tower, he gave them new outfits and upgraded weapons. He even gave them their huntsman and huntress licenses early and let them train with the Ace ops. But Team RWBY kept major secrets from Ironwood almost the whole time. When they finally told him the truth it was too late, James had already exhausted most of his resources trying to stop Salem. Only to find out she can't be killed. Not to mention Blake and Yang betrayed him by going behind his back and telling Robyn about the tower. Which to me makes sense why he snapped, I feel like many people would've made the same choices in Ironwood's position. Ironwood said that loyalty always matters, and he was right. James was loyal to Atlas and most of everyone else. But team RWBY was pretty much disloyal to him the whole time. It is partially team RWBY'S fault that James ended up the way he did. If they hadn't lied to him and betrayed him. Things probably would've worked out better. Clover and Qrow fighting over Tyrian was definitely annoying because obviously Qrow should've recognized Tyrian was the bigger threat and should've worked with Clover to stop him. Next episode is definitely going to be a big one, then it's on to volume 8! Can't wait for next week!

I kid you not, when I first watched episode 12 I was so mad and upset that I refused to watch the finale until volume 8 came out. I shipped Qrow and Clover so hard. Hey were perfect together and seeing mlm couples in media always makes me happy because it's something I didn't really get growing up. And when we did get them they were usually stereotyped, to my recollection anyways.

Jessica Smith

Everyone likes to blame Qrow but he literally tried twice to go after Tyrian but Clover kept attacking him. Clover was unusually focused on Qrow over Tyrian during the fight as well. Qrow with his bad luck couldn't win against both attacking him, and Clover wouldn't focus on Tyrian so it was Qrow's only real choice then. So it was really Clover's fault here, he should have realized you take out the psychotic murderer first then worry about arresting your friend.

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

Not Qrows fault at all. Clover was the asshole who tried to arrest him knowing he wasn't guilty of anything and Clover even attacked Qrow while he was fighting Tyrian. Sadly, Clover got what he deserved, and I am back to shipping Qrow with Winter. I really think Qrow would have been able to be happy with Clover if he wasn't such a cultist. He drank all of Ironwoods's Kool-aid. I hope Qrow gets to kill Ironwood

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

Well, she didn't fix her weapon with gold. Penny's dad or another weapons expert did, but maybe she asked them to do it.

SauceyRed

I am so, so, so, so, so, so, SO glad you're enjoying RWBY as much as I do. It really makes me happy to see how much it has touched you and taken you on an incredible journey of emotions as it has for many of us. Volume 7, 8, and 9 are my top 3 favorite volumes, but between them I think 8 is my number 1, so I'm really fucking excited for you to get there. In the meantime, I'm really hyped for the finale of this volume, and the monologue that it ends with.

SportySpice

Except the thing that threw Ironwood over the edge was Cinder placing the chess piece in his office. It had nothing to do with Team RWBY. Your entire spiel falls apart. The chess piece sends him reeling that he’s missing something (he doesn’t know Cinder is a wild card and not part of Salem’s plan), so he sees ghosts everywhere and decides to forfeit Mantle in his extreme unraveling. Lying about the lamp and telling Robyn about Amity were other points that feed his paranoia, but Cinder was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Because he didnt blow up after Oscar told him about Salem, nor did he blow up after Robyn revealed she knew about Amity. He held those cards and only used them when it benefited his self-righteousness. Also loyalty to Atlas at the expense of Mantle is precisely the problem. He wasn’t loyal to all of Atlas - he’s leaving Mantle to die, and trivialized the struggle HE put them through all season. I also think it’s important to note this episode illustrates that Ironwood’s supposed “gifts” were only while he felt control - he “gifts” them new scrolls he can immediately turn off when he felt control slipping. This volume is a lot of characters doing what they think is right with the information they have. Also, Qrow tries to go after Tyrian first multiple times, only to be stopped by Clover going after Qrow. It wasn’t Qrow who decided.

SportySpice

I will add on that I think one thing the show could do better at is reiterating or reinforcing seeds they plant. The big one being that Ironwood went behind Ozpin’s back in V3 with the Vale council to wrestle the kingdom’s defense from him and potentially get him unseated at Beacon. That is something Ozpin should have warned Oscar about in V5 when he told him they needed to get the lamp to Atlas — the conditions in Mantle should have been enough in V7E1 to set the stage for RWBY’s wariness of Ironwood, but that would have certainly bolstered their mistrust.

Angelus Lupus

I'm upset too! I'm deliberately pacing myself to watch these episodes along with Elijah (I'll watch, then go straight into her reactions). There were SO MANY great moments in the team RWBY fight - Ruby's sassy "You were..." everything 'Yake and Blang' did, and the utter perfection of Weiss just putting a solid wall in front of a speedster! But I am right there with you about Qrow and Clover!!! - I think I was even more upset knowing it was coming and seeing Elijah's reaction :'(

Luminaxtea

Not Fun Fact: chapter 12 left a lot of people upset and feeling queerbaited when it aired, and this is due to a lot of factors, but one of the main contributing ones was some of the animators who worked on the volume openly endorsed Fair Game on Twitter and made tweets many people took as confirmation of it being canon. However, those animators only worked on the earlier parts of the volume and had no idea Clover died near the end and CRWBY as a whole got a TON of backlash from this chapter. This was a PR nightmare and changed how and what the crew was and wasn't allowed to talk about on social media regarding a volume that's still in the middle of releasing.

I wonder if they actually fixed it with Kintsugi or if they just remade it and Blake had them put the gold stripe on after they tempered a whole new blade. It seems like it would be weaker in the area where it broke otherwise.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

By the Brother Gods, the fight between Ironwood and Watts is one of the BEST fights in all of RWBY. I love it so much- the shifting situation and weird gravity add so much color to it, and Ironwood and Watts are great foils for a gun duel. Plus there's the added tactical element of Watts counting bullets. I very much appreciate how Elijah was able to pick up on foreshadowing of Ironwood snapping, and is able to recognize that he's not necessarily in the right just because he's a general. That "That wasn't because of them! That shit was already happening!" is something I've wanted to say to certain parts of the fandom for a WHILE. Also, Ironwood's lines "We abandon our plan for Amity and apply it to the City of Atlas" and "Always out of reach of whatever Salem might send our way" meant something that some people don't get. The plan for Amity was for it to be a PERMANENT satellite. Ironwood isn't just planning to abandon Mantle, he's abandoning all of Remnant. He has a twisted logic to it which you definitely picked up on- this way, Salem can't unite the Relics and a lot of people survive. It just so HAPPENS to be only Atlas citizens who survive... not because Ironwood sees Atlas as the most important people in the world, oh no, it's just a coincidence... On an entirely separate note, the part where Pietro and Maria walk in on Team RWBY moving the Ace-Ops' unconscious bodies gives me such vibes of parents walking in on their kids having had a massive party and wrecked the house.

Vex Valor

As soon as you started shipping Qrow and Clover, I knew where this was going to end. I am so sorry. I went through this as well. One of us.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

I will point out that when Ironwood gave Team RWBY new scrolls, he had them rigged so he could turn them off if he wanted to. He never fully trusted them either.

The Laughing Man

I do agree that he was a bit unstable before, but as time went on he's gotten even worse. I'll take volume 4 James over what he's become now. His semblance truly did a number on his mind over the course of the show.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Yeah, it's really rare to see people who genuinely enjoy RWBY.

RiekerVerse

yeah i remember there was a TON of talk about "Bury your Gays" and RWBY because DAMN did it feel like thats what was happening, I'm still 100% a fair games truther tho, that look a couple chapters ago when Qrow realized Clover was someone he could be around without inherently endangering??? that changes your damn brain chemistry idc

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Personally I go with Qrow and Robyn, double bird theme

Arius

I don't care what Ironwoods reasoning is, this solidified me hating him. RWBY was the LAST group he should have been pushing away, and abandoning his people... That was my last straw. As Obi-Wan once said, "you have become the very thing you swore to destroy..." The fights were among my favorites, seeing RWBY show their growth by beating the elite team was awesome to watch. Can't wait for the finale, you will be sitting there with your jaw on the floor I promise...

SportySpice

Plus Qrow is in his 40s and Winter has gotta be in her late 20s at most given Weiss’s age. Suffice to say, I don’t think the show is going there w Winter. Now Willow/Qrow…(if only for Yang getting tease Weiss that she always wanted a cousin)

Mare

YES! Exactly! Why do most people miss this detail about the scrolls that are heavily tracked and controlled? Ironwood basically lured them into a false sense of security and false trust but they were still under his watchful eye. There’s a reason why Ironwood gives off 1984 “Big Brother is Watching You” vibes. Some of the fandom are just Ironwood apologists. They’re so blinded by his grandeur that they miss the subtle but important details. This is why Media Literacy is so vital.

Stars CM

There's this consistent sort of background theme with a lot of the 'adult' characters I really appreciate: the idea that people who act like they have to make the "tough decisions for the greater good" are pretty much universally full of it. Raven talks about all her difficult choices but it's clear her entire philosophy is purely self-preservation and nothing else. Ozpin tells his lies and keeps his secrets because he's afraid of betrayal without realizing that's actually the reason people turn on him in the first place. And now Ironwood pretends like he's making the "logical" decision here when really he's just paranoid and afraid. Fandoms tend to latch onto those kinds of characters, but I think this is a wonderful inversion of that trope. In reality, people who say "someone has to make the hard choices" are usually just using it as an excuse to take the easy way out.

Andrew Hart

I also love how Yang always catches Blake’s weapon, it’s so cool. In fact it’s indicative of the whole dynamic between team RWBY. They’ve always got each other’s backs in a fight, even when fighting separately and if one of them is struggling, there’s always someone there to catch them if they fall.

May

Absolutely wild take. Clover didn’t do anything to deserve actually dying wtf. And Qrow teaming up with Tyrian and knocking out Clover when he almost had Tyrian captured again was absolutely still a mistake on his part. Look for people like Winter and Clover, it’s not so easy to just turn your back on someone you trust. For example, Winter, who had to grow up with an abusive controlling father and alcoholic mother likely feels indebted to Ironwood. For Winter, Ironwood is someone she probably views as family just like Weiss does with team RWBY. Ironwood probably helped her a lot and thus she respects him and trusts his decisions. I believe it may be the same for Clover. They’ve spent years with Ironwood. Ironwood was never a bad person. Winter and the Ace Ops all know him well enough to understand him and they know he only wants to do the right thing. You can’t just expect people to turn against someone they’ve trusted so much within an instant. Clover didn’t even know the situation. He didn’t have enough information to even come to a conclusion about who’s right and wrong. If he had gone back he would’ve ended siding with team RWBY eventually. If you’ve seen vol 8 then you should know that. Volume 7 is meant to be a volume about morality and whether the right thing to do is the morally right thing to do. Ironwoods decision is not morally right, however, it’s easy to argue it’s still the right choice when it comes to saving the most people. Ultimately they still have a point you know, doing the if trying to do the morally right thing ends up killing everyone, then is it worth it? You’re seeing things in black and white despite the fact that the whole point of the volume is to show how things aren’t so black and white.

Kiesen

Wow I am late with this. Sorry to anyone who likes reading my rambles. My usual schedule got thrown off: - Lmao love that you're cycling through the RWBY shirts. It's very cute to see you decked out every reaction. - I fucking LOVE this fight. The constant shifting angles and perspectives, the MUSIC (it sounds like a Three Days Grace song lmao), the insane backdrop, the simplicity in comparison to all the other fights, and absolute viciousness it ends on. - Fun fact about that song that plays (Hero), the vocalist Caleb Hyles does a bunch of RWBY song covers. He actually did a collab with Casey Lee Williams (RWBY's main vocalist) before doing this for the show. - Arthur Watts is based off John Watson (if he sided with Moriarty), hence the first name (Arthur, like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle) and last name (Watts -> Watson). - Ironwood was able to pull out his arm in part because of his semblance (Mettle) which steels his resolve and makes him hyper-focus. But this is very much him losing more of his humanity. - "I will sacrifice... whatever it takes... to stop her." - Tyrian doesn't really have a backstory? At least one that "justifies" his actions. He's just kind of a freak who loves being a freak. - I mean, Ironwood likes people who follow him without question. It's unsurprising that the Ace-Ops, his closest lieutenants, are exactly that. - Everyone is clearly very tense, but oh man the way Blake recoils and backs away in fear as Ironwood says, "Are you with me?" She's heard those kinds of words before- from Adam -and she knows the damage that follows. - The little jellyfish things are called Seers btw. - I get chills EVERY single time I see this scene and hear Salem say "Your mother said those words to me." Like. Holy shit. The implications ALONE but the audio design??? The snippets of Summer with the screams??? Ruby's eyes flashing??? - "We've seen that you can't be killed, but we've also seen you fail. We don't have to kill you to stop you, and we will stop you." This is honestly a good point but its hope is undercut by the absolutely demoralizing mention of her mother. - This really has been coming since Volume 2. It was just obfuscated by other things. Him bringing the Atlas military and his weapon of war to Beacon didn't read as too weird because we knew a lot of bad things were happening behind the scenes. We also didn't question his controlling habits post-Beacon because they were always overshadowed by Jacques comical levels of villainy. But it's there, it's always been there, and now that Ironwood has lost all control we're really seeing the lengths he's willing to go. - Marrow definitely ain't feeling everything that's going on. You can see it in his face. - The relationship between Penny and Winter is sooooo fucking good. The fucking robot is asking the human where the hell her humanity is??? I have so much to say about this but that's better discussed in V8. - It's definitely morally grey, but boy is Ironwood breaking down that grey back into its black and white components. All legitimacy he had is being stained in blood. - Ah, yes, Team RWBY vs. The Ace-Ops. Another one of my all time favorite fights in the series. The raw fucking synergy Team RWBY has here is incredible. They've intentionally divided themselves so they're facing off against the Ace-Op member they can handle best. And Blake and Yang working together the entire time because they're so much more powerful as a duo??? And you can tell the Ace-Ops are absolutely struggling because they refuse to work as friends and have lost their lucky charm with Clover. And the fucking vocals being in perfect sync with the rhythm of the fight??? - Pun fully intended but Yang is so HOT whens she ignites her hair right before slamming against the ground. She's so smug about it and I can't help but feel my heart skip a beat. - "This show has way too many attractive female characters. I'm too weak for this. I'm sapphic and I'm weak and I'm struggling." Girl me too. Every time I rewatch this series I have to go through the five stages of grief because they're so attractive it drives me nuts. - "Hmm. Both of Ironwoods puppets. Lucky me" says the woman who's Salem's loyal dog - "I think... it gives me personal feelings!" love the reference to the conversation back at the Schnee manor. Just reasserts how absolutely human Penny is despite everything working against her. - "I trust James with my life, but I wanted to trust you-" this isn't technically a love confession but it is to Me - I know things seem ungodly dark right now but this is RWBY. Characters die, but they are never forgotten, and the characters carry them forward.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

To SportySpice: There isn't really an issue with an age gap if both parties are of the age of maturity. Winter's an adult, she can date who she wants.

May

I’m not sure if “just following orders” is really a good phrase to describe people like Winter or possibly Clover. Because ultimately they aren’t simply following orders without any reason to. It’s based on trust and loyalty to someone they have a strong relationship with. It’s not easy to accept the fact that someone you had trusted is no longer the person you used to know. For example, for Winter she may very well view Ironwood as family just like Weiss does with team RWBY. Winter left her awful father and she found her purpose in the military. Id say it’s likely she may view Ironwood as someone who helped her get away from her father and become more of an individual. We all know Ironwood wasn’t a bad person. He clearly wants to do the right thing. Winter has spent years as Ironwoods right hand. They both have an incredible amount of trust for one another. I think it’s reasonable that she won’t immediately turn against him the very second he makes a questionable decision. We don’t know enough about Clover, but it could easily be the same with him. With Clover I also think it’s important to realize he didn’t exactly have any information on the situation. Since he trusts Ironwood he’ll do what is asked, but after being more informed about the situation he would’ve likely sided with Qrow after a bit of time. In this situation, while it may take a little bit for the Ace ops and Winter to come to terms with Ironwood no longer being the same person he used to be, any of them that still believe in doing the right thing will ultimately go against him.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Sure, he gets worse, but that's because he has PTSD from Beacon.

Enchanted_Echo

Woo another volume 8 enjoyer! (it's my favorite too)

Kiesen

I also think there's something to be said about how in a way Winter is ultimately returning to the same dynamic she escaped from. Her father tried to groom her to be the Schnee heir, picking her destiny for her, but she refused and left. Yet she went to someone who she feels got her out of that situation but who ultimately groomed her entire military career and chose her to be the next winter maiden. The same issue with a different coat of paint. People tend to flock to what's familiar, even if it seems different on the surface. It's what gets them trapped in the same cycles over and over again, which we see in a couple RWBY characters outside of Winter.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Actually, Ironwood wasn't influenced by Mettle when he pulled his arm through the shield since his Aura was broken. CRWBY gave that as an example of something Mettle COULD do, but didn't in this scenario, and it was misquoted.

Greg Baisley

Honestly if morgan saw this they would bawl their eyes out.

BGTitan

Yeah, seeing Yang always catch Gambol Shroud sure is something.

Alexis Cardillo

God dam it hearing Qrow scream like that still hurts! Seriously everyone he gets close to either leaves/disappears, betrays, dies or some combination of the 3! It’s like the universe just wants to take any happiness away from him in various cruel ways! Clover why did you keep going after Qrow when he kept going after Tyrion first?! Freaking Cinder just did the chess piece to learn where the Winter Maiden was, she no idea the huge fallout she caused to happen!

Cinder's Apologist

YEP YEP. this and what OP said. I'm so eager to see how Elijah reacts to what happens with Winter going forward; this arc really made me fall hard for her in the sense of Winter becoming one of my all time favorites. Yes, the trust thing does matter. We don't see the whole picture, but it's evident that Winter and Clover and the rest have deep trust in Ironwood, ergo the idea of immediately going "whoa, that's not right" when Ironwood starts to lose it... it just doesn't work like that. And big agree about the cycles thing, which absolutely applies to multiple characters...

Cinder's Apologist

*hands you a big box of tissues. and then another* Yeah, just when things start going well... they stop. That's RWBY for ya. Anyway, some fun facts! - So you've noticed that most weapons have a name, as you remembered Blake's weapon is Gambol Shroud, and surely you'd recall that Ruby's scythe is Crescent Rose. Well, Ironwood's guns also have a name: DUE PROCESS. Yeah. Just let that sink in for a moment. Because I've been waiting so eagerly for "Gravity" because it truly is one of THE best episodes and spectacularly written, mainly the scene in Ironwood's office. Watching and hearing that fall begin to unfold... so tragic and so magnificent. But frankly, it was a long time coming. Also makes future rewatches more interesting now that you know he really is the Tin Man. - Yes, Watts really is just a petty jackass who thinks he's the smartest guy in the room in any scenario. He really did defect to the dark side just because he got snubbed at the science fair, as one person put it on Tumblr long ago. And I'm sure many others pointed this out, but his allusion is tied to a famous literary detective, in the sense of "What if this sidekick met and joined the villain?" - The layout used in the Watts vs Ironwood fight was something that existed during the Vytal Festival in volume 3. It wasn't used for any of the fights, but in the background of Penny's first appearance (when she destroys the boys from CRDL), you can see those floating blocks. I reckon it didn't get used for budget reasons, which is fine because it would not have been nearly as cool in the old animation style XD - RWBY vs Ace Ops is absolutely a highlight among fights in this show. Like you said, the girls work so well together AND IT SHOWS. One of my favorite moments is when Yang pauses to charge up her Semblance because it shows not just how she has learned to be more strategic with her hits, but also that she has better control over activating Burn! So it's not just a temper tantrum or a last ditch resort! She's learning to keep a more level head and dish it out when she can truly knock them out. Do not be ashamed about being down bad for Neo. YOU ARE VALID. Neo looks so SO good in the newer engine, it's criminal. They had no right to make her look that fine, but that's just how it goes with RWBY ladies!

Cinder's Apologist

Actually, there IS a Tyrian backstory! If you go back to v7c7 "Worst Case Scenario" when Clover brings up Tyrian and pulls up a digital screen... that screen is a summary like an arrest report regarding Tyrian, including how he was captured and how his prison transport got attacked. Hint: it was a swarm of Grimm led by the one that Tyrian would come to call "Your grace." And YES Penny and Winter dynamic so good!

Cinder's Apologist

OH one more thing... For future rewatch purposes, pay attention to how Ironwood initially reacts in v3 when the Grimm begin swarming Vale. When he gets that call from Ozpin? "Oz, the girl, I can explain!" "You brought your army to my kingdom, James. Use it." Soooo yeah. Even then, we already got a glimpse that General Ironwood does not do well under intense pressure because it literally took Oz reminding him "put your troops to work" to get focused on the actual problem at hand. Not to mention the heavy-handed nature of, well, everything he was doing in the Beacon arc. Dude was not being subtle, or being discreet as Qrow said.

Cinder's Apologist

well said. RWBY is a master class in trope subversion, as many others have said long before me and surely know how to describe it better. but that theme about "tough decisions" is absolutely correct... and it's why Team RWBY are the heroes of this story, not the adults who constantly fall short

Cinder's Apologist

yeah I felt so bad when she started voicing interest in shipping them. I myself didn't feel compelled to ship them like that on my first or second viewing, but I was aware enough to see why people liked it. ship or not, it really is just tragic for Qrow - but such is RWBY

Cinder's Apologist

it still irks me how that turn - that really inevitable, long foreshadowed turn on Ironwood's part just is not well received by some people. because yeah, Elijah was absolutely correct in calling it out and recognizing it for what it was. yes, it sucks to see it happen because you do want him to actually do the right thing, but also... he's a general with some clearly unresolved PTSD. but more importantly, he's a control freak. "LOYALTY ALWAYS MATTERS!" that tells you everything. also the song "Hero" that plays during his fight with Watts, how he sees himself as The One Who Can Save Remnant. it's no wonder he ended up losing it when things started going wrong and those around him didn't simply fall in line.

The Laughing Man

But if you take away his semblance he can, at the very least, be reasoned with. You're still right though, Beacon did a number on him right off the bat.

Mare

"loyalty always matters"? Seriously? I'm going to show you Ironwood's Red Flags from the Beacon Arc and then his slow descent into authoritarianism starting with: V2: - Bringing an army to a peace festival: This showed his tendency to prioritize military power instead of using diplomacy. In the time of peace, Ironwood wanted to utilize intimidation. - His Lack of trust in his Allies: You say that loyalty is important yet, Ironwood himself couldn't even trust people he allied with. He relied on his own judgement instead of Ozpin's, and this was already back in Volume 2-3. - Ironwood's own Secrets and Control: Remember when he kept Penny's existence a secret even from his "closest allies?" This demonstrated his desire for total control over his projects and his willingness to operate WITHOUT full transparency. - Ironwood's solutions to everything was through his militaristic views. His heavy reliance on showing force and intimidation hinted at his belief this was the only way to solve problems. Funny enough, in Volume 4, Taiyang had told Yang that one can't power their way through everything. This is Tai's exact quote that goes basically counters Ironwood's methods...and Raven's: Taiyang: "You both act as if the easiest way to tackle an obstacle is through it. That strength is all that matters in a fight. But if you just take a second look, then maybe you see there's a way around as well." (You may not read into it but this whole sentence is also a metaphor and a lesson also about communication other than strength. Ironwood focuses solely on might. ) Also Careful...Adam expressed the same sentiments with Blake and recall why she left him. When Ironwood said that, it was so easy to see the parallels between him and Adam. Adam was a corrupt, spiteful psychopath so Blake couldn't be LOYAL to him and his Ideals. Headmaster Leo had shown, that he can't be trusted because he eventually caved in and started taking orders from Salem. Ironwood, had red flags from his initial debut in Volume 2 as shown above. And with all of that, did you really expect Team RWBY, to just swallow their own reservations and just put their complete faith and trust in Ironwood??

Curtis Murphy

Watching the Qrow/Clover/Tyrian fight, you can see that Qrow does start of prioritizing Tyrian when he joins. But Clover keeps attacking Qrow AS WELL AS Tyrian. Probably due to arrogance because of his "Good Luck" Semblence thinking he can take care of both of them. So, Qrow has a choice, keep attacking Tyrian AND Clover and have them keep attacking him, OR, double team Clover with Tyrian, defeat him quick, then turn on Tyrian who we know Qrow can fight one on one. Unfortunately it didn't work out for him. If only Clover could've just saw the bigger picture and teamed up to defeat Tyrian

Solus

True

CrowOfAFeather

As far as V2 we've seen the foreshadowing too. And Lionheart even pointed out that "whatever happened in Vale only worsened some of his more "Unfortunate tendencies." "Loyalty always matters!" but he was the one who went behind Ozpin's back and went to the Vale council with reports that led to Ozpin basically getting kicked out, and Ironwood appointed as head of security. Like you said, he's a control freak, and he wants to be the one in charge while everyone else blindly follow his orders. He wants to be the hero.

Becca ^-^

I’m so sorry Elijah 🫣🫣💜💜

Kiesen

@man-of-bvz1n3ss Ah, I see. Though feels kind of weird to have a major character with a passive semblance and not use it for this scenario but say it could be? Considering how symbolic semblances are, having Ironwood yank his arm out of a burning hard-light shield because he can practically shut off his emotions would fit right into his whole Tinman allusion.

Kiesen

@Cinder's Apologist That I do know, but I personally don't count that as much of a backstory. He's ultimately still a "here for the fun of it" villain with no deeper motivations as to why he's Like That. Even Watts' weak ass still has a little bit of motivation despite it being symptomatic of his narcissism.

Dre

“This is the part where they ask us to help” Maria has so few lines this volume but they used her so well. Funniest character in the show. Absolute legend.

bloodyshadow1

i know a lot of people like clover and fairgame, but I dont' think that they would have worked in the end. yeah theres a lot of tropy similarities between the two but it boils down to they aren't actually that compatible when things break bad. just because their semblances compliment each other so qrow doesn't have to be alone they wouldn't last in my opinion. clover is the biggest bootlicker in atlas which is saying something, he's polite and charming, and potentially gay (which means he can do no wrong to some parts of the fandom) but people forget that he's been perfectly willing to do immoral and unlawful things if it means he gets results or believes he will. Qrow for all his flaws won't act against his heart and he's a scarecrow whose using his brains more and more. people complain about him fighting with tyrian against clover, but no one remembers that clover started it when he stopped him from going after Tyrian, in that moment the person he had been fighting alongside for weeks and the serial killer they just brought in were equally bad. if clover survived he could have gotten his eyes open, but he's literally the top cop who until his death bed was loyal to Ironwood above all else. They could have been very cute together for a bit, but once things break down, I can't see them lasting

Dre

There was a secondary thing I vividly remember that also compounded the problem. AFTER the chapter aired the company put out an advertisement for some Qrow and Clover themed merch. If they were gonna do that it should have been earlier in the volume, not so soon after one of them died. It was very tone-deaf.

Luminaxtea

Oof. Yeah, admittedly I probably blocked that one out, but it was definitely salt in the very fresh wound and made the already negative reaction all the more bitter.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Oh that's a GREAT description of why Watts turned evil. My go-to comparison is "he got passed up for a promotion at work" lol.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Personally I just don't really include Mettle in my personal headcanon, it doesn't really serve any purpose that isn't explained by Ironwood just being Like That.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Huh, that's an angle I hadn't thought of before. Tbh, I kinda prefer the idea of Watts setting out to destroy the world solely because he got passed up for a promotion, it is just SO PETTY that I find it hilarious.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Nah, Clover's gonna get turned into a cyborg possessed by Salem next Volume and be redeemed through the power of polyamorous love from Qrow and Robyn.

Dre

Oh just to note. I’m not ascribing malicious intent on the part of the show staff in regards to this controversy. The way fans treated some of them was not okay. I’m just adding on based on what I remember. And honestly. Even as a man kisser myself I do like the tragic aspect of Qrow and Clover’s ultimate relationship (doomed yaoi as my friends say). It makes sense in the case of Qrow’s character arc and what the plot was doing (division within the anti-Salem alliance creating an opening for Salem to attack). But I also totally understand why so many fans who read Qrow and Clover as romantic got upset. Especially if they were active in fan spaces during volume 7 and saw all of the rainbow neon signs in the show obviously pointing at Bumblebee being canon and wanting that for a male-male couple.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Yeah, I do admit that it feels a little OOC from what we've gotten from him so far. I don't think I'd mind it as much if we had gotten a little more in-depth on Clover's personality and just how loyal he is to Ironwood, or maybe had some lines after the fight with Tyrian where he doesn't think Tyrian's a real threat.

Enchanted_Echo

Really? Huh........it's weird because I joined the RWBY FNDM May of last year (finish volume 3 mid June) and I wondered what the fandom and interactions were like because it sounded like a lot of fun that I missed out on and discussions but also a lot of toxicity that's not needed at the same time...........makes me glad I missed it I don't know..........for fair game I didn't really feel queer baited personally as it was still setting the stage for everything but I did ship them but I wasn't mad that they didn't become a couple because for what happened to Clover, story writing wise, it fit really well and I loved it. And I adore with what they did and have been doing with Blake and Yang......I don't know if this sounds too much gibberish, I just feel conflicted sometimes on it but I am happy I am here now and seeing the FNDM here at least being really sweet, informative and funny too. #Yake&Blang4Life

Kiesen

@man-of-bvz1n3ss I get that tbh. I personally like it because I've always found semblances to be one of most interesting aspects of RWBY's character writing, but I can see why this instance wouldn't be to everyone's taste. He's a freak regardless of if there's a mirror to reflect that though which is what really matters.

Arashi

Qrow v Clover is so painful. Qrow really was going to focus on Tyrian first, but Clover just had to keep 'orders' active and intentionally set himself against both of them. "This is part where they ask us to help." Well c'mon Maria. You know the saying, 'Friends will help you move. True friends help you move bodies.' Yeah... just remember what Penny said in chapter 2. "It'll be /just like Beacon again/." ... It really is shaping up to be just like Beacon indeed. On the plus side, the Volume is almost over and I'm sure nothing else can explode in our faces... right?

Angelia Dark

I think a lot of people miss out on key points with Tyrian vs Fair Game, first starting with the fact that is' been said and noted that Atlas Academy literally indoctrinates their students with nationalism, and the Ace Ops are the closest to the top of the chain of command so it stands to reason that Clover would put orders first. It's what he's trained and indoctrinated to do. Tyrian KNOWS this. This was part if his plan. He knows that Clover would pick duty over sense and go after them both. He knows Qrow would get frustrated trying to 1v2 them and try to get Clover out of harm's way first. The fight and outcome isn't an asspull like some think it is, it's Clover putting his job first, and Qrow getting fed up with it all and letting his emotions get in the way for Tyrian to pull off his cruelty. Also just saying, Fair Game is fighting Alcohol Poisoning, and I stand by that.

Luminaxtea

Some it was awesome, some of it was toxic, and some of it was so stupid it was funny (like the guy who insisted that Yang can't be a lesbian because she has big boobs). I'm glad the fandom has chilled out with the largely unwarranted negativity since the post-v9 hiatus started, but that may be subject to change when v10 comes out.

Vegvisir92

gold itself is terrible for anything other than electronics or jewellery, but it could very well be a gold coloured metal/alloy that is insanely strong in Remnant, they likely have fictional metals unlike ours

Vegvisir92

well Qrow literally tells Ruby that back in volume 3

Christopher Herrera

Well I meant Elijah I have seen the entire show but I don’t recall her ever acknowledging it

supersoaker

That's a cool ship name, Alcohol Poisoning. The name is up there with ones like Frosen Steel. I've always liked how creative RWBY ship names are, especially compared to other shows

Arius

Idk how anyone can feel baited when two of the main characters are acting gay, you got your gay

Caleb Winningham

RWBY vs Ace Ops is such a good showcase of our girls' synergy and tactics. They don't say what they're going to do at any point in the fight. But they all know the assignments: Ruby takes the lead and keeps Harriet busy, if Harriet was near by when Marrow uses his semblance or Elm/Vine restrain someone that person is out. Yang/Blake keep Vine and Elm focused on them, pitting the best synergy in RWBY vs the best synergy in the Ace Ops. Weiss vs Marrow is very one sided, especially when Marrow admits to not going all out, Weiss and Ruby know then that Weiss is good and Ruby can keep focus on Harriet. Weiss' summon makes it so Marrow can only "stay" on one of them at a time, draining his aura and opening him up to a knockout from either Weiss or her summon, whichever happens first.

It's probably been explained already, but Watts is based off of Watson from Sherlock!

Ronin Badger

Mentioning Blake’s repaired weapon, there is a really good short fanart comic by dae-stuff where Penny tells Blake they can repair the blade with a black joint so it won’t be visible and Blake looks across the room at Yang and says “No. Make it gold”

Marrow was able to 'stay' the crowd when they started to riot during Robyn's party. I think it's more he can only use apply it to targets he sees and only have one at a time. Weiss had him between her and the summon, so he had to break sight lines on one to get the other.

Clover's death was on Clover and Clover alone. Qrow didn't want to fight him, he wanted to kill Tyrian but Clover decided neutralizing Qrow was somehow more important than disposing of the literal mass murderer.

Yes, yes it is... Pray to all the gods that most of Molly's best moments will be adopted in the show... There are scenes that I cannot wait to see on screen a month from now... *Realization hits* OH MY SHAPER'S ANUS (Murray is slowly but surely climbing up in my character ranking list), WHEN DID WE GET HERE? ... ... Also if the cliffhangers keep progressing, my question is this: What will next episode's be?

Caleb Winningham

Yeah my phrasing was unclear. He can "Stay" more than one target, but has to keep focus on the direction.

Natasha Grimm

The thing that really gets me about Ironwood's plan is that, while it is incredibly heartless to abandon everyone like that, it's also just...really stupid. His entire plan is to raise the entirety of Atlas into the upper atmosphere using the power of the Staff, relying on their artificial climate system to keep everyone alive. The problem with that is that said system is powered by Dust, and Dust has been shown to be consumed as it is used. Once the Dust runs out, they won't be able to get any more since they don't have access to the Dust Mines, causing everyone to suffocate. Even if the Dust itself was for some reason infinite, parts break down, and sometimes they do so in a way that can not be repaired, requiring replacements. Well, you need raw materials in order to create said replacements, and, once again, they won't have access to said materials. But, ok, even if the people themselves die, at least the relics will be kept out of Salem's reach, right? Wrong. Spoilers for the World of Remnant videos, but it is revealed that the reason Solitas was because the harsh climate kept the Grimm at bay, suggesting they couldn't survive there. Despite this, we see that in the modern day Solitas has just as much of a Grimm problem as anywhere else, showing that Salem is capable of adapting the Grimm to her needs. I mean, we see this directly when she gave the Beringal's wings. Because of this, it is not too far of a reach to assume that she would be capable of adapting the Grimm to reach whatever heights Ironwood brings Atlas to, rendering the entire plan moot. Not only is Ironwood being heartless, he's being brainless in the process as well

The whole Atlas arc is showing in subtext James's biggest weakness... His Semblence ironically.

fun detail from the yang/blake and elm/vine fight, at one point in time we see yang blast apart the ground that elm is standing on. since her semblance relies upon her literally rooting herself to the ground, yang breaking apart the ground effectively neutralizes elm's semblance. but more than just yang breaking apart the ground, blake stays UP HIGH while she does this so that she's not in yang's line of fire. and they do this all without communicating. i freaking love bumbleby man. it's true, they fight SO WELL together.

Lunar Goddess

I just wanna say good luck on season 8. its good but my god is it hard to watch

I know I'm a bit late to the party, but hearing the Ace Ops regurgitating "orders are to be followed" gives me major "Good soldiers follow orders" videos. Any Star Wars: The Clone Wars fans will know what I'm talking about.

RenaissanceM

God....this entire season is like a Shakespearean tragedy. I freaking LOVED the Ace-Ops. I BELIEVED in Ironwood. I don’t believe he’s a bad man, he’s just scared. They’re all just letting their fear of what could happen stop them from doing what is right. That’s something I haven’t seen a lot of people note about the tragedy of James Ironwood’s fall into full on fascism. The terrible irony that despite his earlier pronouncements in the season that he “will not be like Lionheart”, in the end, when push came to shove, he’s doing exactly what Lionheart did. He’s running away. James tries to dress up his decision as cold, logical, pragmatism, but let’s be clear, he’s scared, and he’s running away. He has fought as hard as he could, all the while believing if he just had the strongest military on the planet, he could defeat whatever Salem threw at him, but now that he’s actually seen Salem. Now that he see’s what he’s up against, his immediate response isn’t to unite and fight more, but to run away. Just like Lionheart. Just like Raven. We’re not talking some kind of strategic withdrawal, he’s saying take Atlas, put it somewhere the scary lady can’t get to, and damn Mantle and the whole rest of the world. It’s the reason Ozpin didn’t tell them the truth I think.

RenaissanceM

Clover’s death is right up there with Pyrrha’s for me…… Like you, I was so happy that Qrow might have finally found someone he could be with while not being afraid of his own semblance….. The second he opened himself up. Allowed himself to be vulnerable. The world knocks him down………

ChronicNikos

After beating Clover’s aura completely, there was no longer any good luck to balance out Qrow’s misfortune.

ChronicNikos

Watt’s joined Salem bc he lost the local science fair to Pietro’s idea to create Penny

The flight to Solitas wasn't even the only time Atlesians tried running from Grimm only for them to adapt either. I believe the whole point behind raising Atlas into the sky was not just to set an example but to keep away from the Grimm. But now they need shields and an air fleet to stay safe.

ELS_Art

Shhhh, it’s okay, simp for the Villain. Sometime it feels good to be bad. 😈🤭🤣 Nah but seriously Jessica kills it. Also Whole Neo Doesn’t talk she technically has a Voice actor Casey Williams the lead singer you hear in every RWBY intro. pretty sure they had her record efforts for Neo but I am unsure if they have ever used any of them.

Cinder: What do you say to that. Penny: It gives me personal feelings. Cinder: ... I feel like that's a reference to a conversation I wasn't a part of and I don't appreciate that.

BGTitan

They used them in Blaze Blue I think? Cuz it would be weird in a fighting game for someone being hit to not make some sort of sound I think? God it's been years I can't remember the exact reason.

DominusInFortuna

@BGTitan Yup, BlazBlue CrossTag Battle and the little gasp Neo did when Ruby opened Hush in V3.
