Holy shit so soon!? Hell yeah let’s fucking go!

SauceyRed

Regarding only humans being attacked by grimm, it's almost certainly a mistake to not include the faunus. First thing that comes to mind is that Blake was attacked by the centinels (the large centipede grimm) in the dust mine back at the start of volume 7, she was scouting ahead, so it wasn't triggered by anyone else.

CrowOfAFeather

Definitely better late than never! :D Glad you're doing the last 6 in one video, otherwise it'd be a third video with just 1 WoR episode. I think that the Grimm doesn't ignore the Faunus and this was a slight error. We see the Grimm attack the Faunus as well, and they are also part of the reason as to why Menagerie is partly uninhabitable despite being so large; the 2/3 desert have a lot of them. There's still so much about Aura and Semblances that we still don't know which is what Ren touches upon in V5. Like, what determines what kind of Semblance you'll have, does it reflect your personality or is your personality determined by your Semblance, etc. Not to mention that not every active fighter manages to unlock theirs. There is one thing that Salem gets "wrong" however; Not all Semblances are entirely "unique". Speed Semblances are rather common and you've seen the similarities between Yang's and Adam's; however, while people can have similar Semblances, there's something different in how they work that sets them apart from each other! And not every Semblance is practical for combat either, such as Robyn's. You're exactly right, we don't see anyone infusing Dust into their bodies aside from Hazel, due to his Semblance allowing him. It's not a recommended way of using Dust. You DID however see someone weave it into clothing; Cinder during early volumes. ;-) I believe Ironwood even mentions it when asking Ruby after the dance. Great reaction, can't wait for the videos with V8 and next batch of WoR :D

milkystross

Im almost certain thats actually because the wildlife is dangerous, i dont think they say its Grimm

Flufux

The first four of these actually came out before Salem appeared onscreen, so at the time, people mostly just knew of her as the narrator...which made her reveal at the end of volume 3 all the more impactful. She also wasn't in the thumbnail originally.

CrowOfAFeather

"Menagerie is considered a safe haven for Faunus. However, this is usually due to the Faunus living there wanting to be left alone from the rest of Humanity. The island is later revealed to also be inhabited by Grimm in its deserts. The Capivara are large, rat-like Grimm native to the island's deserts." - RWBY Wiki Granted, there are no footnotes so I could still be wrong, but I'm fairly certain they at least imply that the Grimm are part of the reason they can't make settlements near/in the desert portions.

Silverdenndotpng

Incredible, wasn't expecting a back to back reaction, love it!

Martin E Melcher

A popular theory (since your past the Oz backstory) is that Dust came about because its the ashes of the previous magic using parts of humanity. Basically, its whats left from when Salem tricked the world to attack the Brothers

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

The Grimm attacks faunus as well as humans. To them they are the same

Cat's Eyes

Cinder had Dust weaved into her clothes in the early volumes, but I guess she stopped bothering because she didn't need to hide her Maiden powers anymore.

sammy

Could you also watch RWBY Chibi later?

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

We only new Salem's voice as the narrator when these first aired, but yes. She is definitely Salem's after watching these videos and knowing the character. They did a good job with the hints of who she really is ,not only during these videos but in the very first chapter of volume 1

LikeCat

I cannot wait for her reaction to E14 and 15

David Johnson

Weiss has a lot more than just four chambers in her sword's "revolver," so I don't think she's *just* using the four basic types of dust. It's interesting they're called "kingdoms," yet we've seen nothing we could consider "royalty" for any of them.

Matthew bauer

what is a king but a ruler of a country.

Curtis Murphy

Probably a holdover from the past when they had rulers

Konrad Dunbar

It's a little detail you might of missed, but Weiss uses dust bullets like the rest of the girls! the interior of her gun is a revolver which why we jokingly call it a click pen like the ones with four inks XD Cinder in volume 2 during the dance actually used Dust in her outfits! My personal belief is that Dust comes from the extinction event that killed Salem's old world with the remnants (ha) of the people and their magic during into dust over time.

Rachel Mae

The first few videos also had the benefit of keeping the “mysterious narrator’s” voice at the top of viewers minds for her reveal in v3. The one instance of dust being woven into clothing was Cinder in v2 in dance dance infiltration not sure if there’s any other examples I may have forgotten.

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

My guess is that Salem says Grimm exclusively attack humans because she comes from a time before Faunus ever existed, so she learned this stuff slightly differently

BGTitan

Dust: Yeah there's no "electricity" in this world. Everything runs on Dust. We see Ruby reload in her trailer. So they do, they just don't always show it. Kingdoms: So fun fact about the map, it was created by Monty putting ketchup on a napkin and then rubbing it together. The resulting shapes were cleaned up a little of course but became the continents for Remnant. Is it a WoR if it doesn't end a little ominously? Grimm: I love the atmosphere for this one. They do attack Faunus. They were kind of using "Humans" as a catch all in this. Ok so, they touched a little bit on the whole Grimm living longer and learning thing in the show, but how you can typically tell if the Grimm is older is because they'll have more white spikes and perhaps be a little bigger. Aura: Something this doesn't quit cover is that if someone runs out of aura, no more semblance until their aura replenishes. Vytal Festival Tournament: Oh look! Now Oz gets to give us the ominous endings. Yay. Not a WOR without those.

LaviPastelQueen

You know after watching vol 6 episode 3 alot I was under the impression that dust came from the parts of the moon that fell I don't know if that's a possibility but I thought that'd be interesting if that's where the dust came from when the god of darkness destroyed the moon I'm only saying this since she's seen vol 6 already but I always thought what was the purpose of the broken moon other then just cool aesthetics

Andrew Strauser

HERE'S SOME SEMBLANCE CATEGORISATION IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED! Over the course of 9 volumes I've seen that you can separate semblances into 3 categories based on how they activate and drain aura. Active semblance: A semblance that burns a specific amount of aura to do or create something. Ruby, Weiss, Blake, Fiona, Neo and Raven all have an active semblance. Continuous semblance: A semblance that continuously drains aura to maintain a form or ability. This kind of semblance is risky because you can drain all your aura if you rely on it too much; in fact we've seen Yang, Ren and Jaune's auras break when they use their semblances for too long.(Volume 6 episodes 12 &13) Yang, Ren, Jaune, Emerald, Marrow, Harriet and Hazel all have a continuous semblance. Passive semblance: A very rare kind of semblance that cannot be turned off like the others. It either actives on its own randomly or when certain conditions are met. This kind of semblance is often invisible and can be hard to discover. Qrow, Nora, Maria and Clover (although he found a way to boost his luck when he flicks his badge) all have a passive semblance. Now keep in mind this is just speculation and my opinion based on what I have observed. Some character's semblances can fit in multiple categories but I base it off whether or not we've seen a semblance break someone's aura.

Moonas

That wasn't mistake - she said they attack JUST humans bc how u know God of Darkness created them when there just humans. Faunus started existed after Gods left the world.

Enchanted_Echo

Better late than never, gotta love the additional world building of RWBY lore :)

Enchanted_Echo

Oooooo I didn't know this. Fascinating

ActualBampot

Cinder's Volume 1-3 red dress, and her masked disguise in Dance Dance Infiltration both use Dust. The theory was that this is how she chose to augment the missing half of the Fall Maiden powers at the time.

Luke Byers-Jones

It was the godly equivalent of slamming the door on the way out.

Arashi

Cinder's used woven dust clothing. Glynda mentioned it after Dance Dance Infiltration. 'Grimm attack humans, and their creations'. Yet faunus are still attacked as well. Isn't that fascinating? That said, Salem 'pre-dates' faunus and probably doesn't consider them any different, they are all beneath her.

Addy

Elijah said in her Volume 7 finale reaction that after she finishes up the main show, the brain rot will continue with RWBY: Ice Queendom, RWBY Chibi, and a collab with Mosco for the RWBY x DC projects, and maybe some reactions to fan made animations

Ryan

Yes, "knowledge". We already know how fond you are of "knowledge"...

LikeCat

It became the new „Art"... Just an observation

Eric Smith

Have you seen all the World of Remnant videos? Because...

Eric Smith

Cinder in v1c1, her fire attacks use Dust: her sleeves light up

Eric Smith

I mean, they use electricity for a bunch of stuff, but source it from lightning Dust instead of any of our methods.

DarkDragon77

Once the WOR videos are done I hope RWBY Chibi won’t be too far behind

BGTitan

Yes. That is why I typed it as "electricity", and clarified that it was Dust. Which the different ways they can combine Dust is still really cool. Like how we get something like Hard Light Dust or Gravity Dust.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Personally I'm more partial to the theory that Dust is the literal dust the first iteration of humanity was turned into, crystallized and buried underground after generations yet retaining some latent magic.

Ryan

It would be cruel to ask her to choose between the two...

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Either that, or the writers forgot to include an addenda for faunus in the script.

Vegvisir92

if you want to hear more of Salems voice you should play the Halo games, also you've already seen by this point, Humans came before faunus....during the flashback of Salems history, faunus didn't show up until the second evolution after the gods left, before then it was just humans and Grimm, faunus are the newest species to the world, which is why "grimm targeted humans"

CrowOfAFeather

Were they? It's been a while since I read it lol

Tone

The Grimm were created before humans as well, to spread the God of Darkness's love of destruction.

Cinder's Apologist

so glad you're finally getting around to watching these! as you have surely noticed by now, the show itself has so much going on yet time and budget constraints meant that some things had to be cut, so the WOR series is a crucial add-on that fleshes out the lore. Cinder did weave Dust into her outfits - the infiltration suit and I'm pretty sure her regular red dress as well. they provided a handy cover for her (partial) Maiden powers. if memory serves correctly, the ones that Salem narrates came out during v2 and the ones Ozpin narrates came out during v3. so you can see how the Oz ones are a bit more... poignant when you remember they are told with volume 3 as the backdrop. also the rest are narrated by Qrow and came out during v4 (and v5?) for rather obvious reasons lol I agree that Salem is an excellent narrator and so fun to listen to. Jen Taylor's performance is sheer perfection. also it wasn't until a mutual pointed it out but I LOVE how at the end of the Aura short, she takes a very pointed swipe at Ozpin - "...much more than just a man." LMAO yeah she's definitely salty about her ex.

Cinder's Apologist

augmentation makes sense, but also an easy way to hide the true nature of her powers

Cinder's Apologist

oh I dig it. very handy way to summarize Semblances across the story

Cinder's Apologist

yep, that's what I have assumed for a long time. since the first humans had literal magic abilities (aka why Salem still has magic) and Dust is broadly considered to be an artificial substitute for magic in Remnant, it just makes sense that Dust was the fossilized remains of Magical Humanity v.1 that got wiped out

Rupert Anderson Jr

It just occurred to me that the Vytal festival is just the Remnant version of the Olympics.

Asd JuasJuas

Cinder had fire dust in her clothes, she used it in her brief fight vs Glynda and Ruby in the first ep

Sarah Nara

Weiss Uses refined dust whereas Hazel uses raw dust to inject himself with power

Sarah Nara

How do you think we felt when we were waiting a week for the new episode and then all they dropped was a One and a half minute lore video?

bigbutch

Im so excited whenever you watch the RWBY Chibi shorts and the RWBY Movies, they are so good imo.

CB Jones

So there are a few different characters voicing these, and it's worth noting that it does seem to be the CHARACTERS voicing. Meaning that their perspectives, biases and the limits of their knowledge do seem to influence each short. So even here, don't take every word at face value.

Hollyhock

I love how aura is used to get around 'anime logic' in the fights. The fights can get very over the top with people getting hit in ways that would be fatal by any normal logic, yet the stakes are still there because every hit does count towards depleting the aura. It's pretty genius

GeminiRosche13

I will say, the World of Remnant segments with Salem narrating were before volume 3, so at that time she was just the narrator voice from the start of volume 1 to us, we didn’t know she was the main villain. And Ozpin’s ones were released around V3 with the dramatic irony of every tragic thing that was going to upset the peace he loves so much coming very soon.

Faroth

Gotta love going back to these and seeing the Dust one. Humans come from Dust... literally, the Dust is magical humans made into dust after the wipeout of humanity
