We actually already know who the King of Vale is. The World of Remnant mentions he founded the Huntsman academys and placed his trusted followers as headmasters. Which was confirmed in show to be what Ozpin did. So the King of Vale was a prior incarnation of Ozpin. We also know that the Relic of Destruction is a sword, so he probably used is during the final fight of the war.

Flufux

Who shot first between Vale and Mistral? My guess? Salem. She had been trying to divide humanity for ages, and I am all but certain that she was doing her best to escalate the Great War as much as possible, likely by having minions on all sides of the conflict. Hell, it might even be her who caused the 'incident' that caused Mantle's repression of art and self-expression in the first place. Plus, she's in the thumbnail alongside Ozpin, so I think that might be a pretty big hint. Still, none of that is confirmed yet, and I'm just speculating.

NekoMouse 08

Juane did say, in Volume 1 that the weapon he uses is his great great grandfathers sword, which he used to fight in The Great War.

Lindsay

I immediately thought the same as you that the king of vale was a relative of Jaunes. The show made such a big deal about his sword being a heirloom from the great war and that sword the king is carrying looks just like Jaunes etc... but the king of vale clearly used magic and also carried a "scepter" and his main color was green so its kind of agreed upon that he was a past life of oz. But I don't think those two things can't both be true. I think we are going to learn that Jaune is a decedent of one of Oz's past lives in volume 10 or beyond

Lunar Goddess

Loved watching these with you! The WOR is so interesting to learn about and helps us understand what is happening during the show a little more

SportySpice

In regards to your question on whether the map of Remnant is meant to be dragons / the Brothers, the “lore” is more adorable — the map is based off a ketchup stain on a napkin during an IHOP brainstorming session with Monty, Kerry and Miles.

Elizabeth McLaughlin

And the Relic of Destruction is a sword and the Relic of Choice is a crown, so that's 100% Oz fighting wielding his magic and 2 relics. Which says how important he thought it was that Vale win the war, revealing two of the relics like that

Potato

Its so amusing that the narator of the "educational" stuff we learn (that are thibgs they wouldnt have been taught in school most likely) is qrow cahse he used to be a teacher XD and i bet thats the type of teacher he always was tone and everything Its a nice little nod feels like were in the student position

Pdrs

Regarding the King of Vale he was most likely one of Ozma's reincarnations. And how he got the other rulers to stand down and finish the war in Vacuo? Look tha only he had a golden crown and a sword. The relic hidden in Vale is the Crown of Choice, the one in Vacuo is the Sword of Destruction. He probably used the sword to decimate a large number of Mantle and Mistral's armies and used the crown to..."persuade" the other rulers to stand down

RetroBeastto

Something that I theorize is that Ozpin might have been the king of Vale and I think he had some of the relics on hand. It states that he wore a crown, wielded a scepter and sword. In volume 6 we get a visual of all the relics and I think these relics were used to end the war. Also because this king also founded the huntsman academies which could have been the cause of why they schools act as vaults for the relics. This is something that has always stuck out in my head as I watch RWBY

Ryan

Who shot first? Mistral? Vale? Obviously, Salem. "Unusually violent weather conditions..." sounds like the Four Maidens were at the battle... I wish other shows would do shorts like this, too. Arcane, She-Ra, Dragon Prince, Helluva Boss/Hazbin Hotel - all of them have so much lore...

KimSea009

you gotta look up the Ketchup story for the map of remnant, it's really beautiful, like the fact that random Ketchup stains turned out to look like two different styles of dragons is wild and amazing

BGTitan

Continent - Solitas, Kingdom - Atlas (previously Mantle), Academy - Atlas (renamed from Alsius). Continent - Saunus, Kingdom - Vacuo, Academy - Shade. Old Saint Nick is the one in the armor in the portrait you were looking at in episode 9 of Volume 7. So in a way, Weiss is summoning her grandfather's armor.

Zero Blazer Gaming

The Warrior King Of Vale. Waring his CROWN, and wielding only a SWORD and a STAFF. Think about who that could be.

Octavia

Will you be watching any other rwby content or doubling up on episodes now? Rwby ice queendom takes place between volumes 1-2 so that's an option, or the first rwby x justice league movie takes place during the events of volume 7 ( the second movie is post volume 9 so spoilers if you watch that). There's also the rwby fairy tales series that is exactly what it sounds like, a series of episodes that have the characters reading us the fairytales of remnant.

Migli

honestly this isn't just a theory the show subtly spells it out for us with WOR, because from the show we know oz said he built the schools to Oscar, and raven told us he's the one who designed the schools and WOR tells us that it was the king of vale who created the huntsman academies so therefore it would seem before ozpin oz's previous life was as the king of vale

Rachel Mae

"The last king of Vale founded the huntsman academies" ...In volume 4 Qrow tells Ruby Jaune Nora and Ren that it was one of Oz's predecessors who founded the academies

Migli

this is a minor point but i just want to let you know although Sun is from vacuo he attended haven academy, and the rest of his team (Neptune Sage and Scarlet) are assumed to be from mistral not vacuo.

2026-09-07 19:00 Note 1: vacuo. Their ecology was destroyed BEFORE the great war. SDC didn't exist until after. Note 2 (big one): the king of vale with what you know now is CLEARLY ozpin/ma in a former life. He used a "crown, scepter and sword" which we now know as the crown of choice, staff of creation, and sword of destruction. This is how he was able to single handedly destroy an entire army. He almost certainly used the 1 question from Jinn this era (remember it was 80 years ago) to plan the battle. Though at the time (all these wor are volume 4) it was unclear, now with context we know what happened. He didn't become king of the world because it would be less effective for his aims especially given the unreliability of his resurrection. The entirely bureaucratic system he designed allows him to use loyalists to take over again and again

All of the Qrow vids are the original VA. The shorts were released during volumes 2-4, and they didn't change his VA until after volume 6. (The change in narrators is indicative of which volume they came with: Jen Taylor, still being the "Mysterious Narrator" she was described as at the start of the series, does the volume 2 ones; Ozpin narrates the volume 3 ones; and in his absence, Qrow takes over for volume 4.) Also, you are the only reactor I have ever seen actually notice the land masses resembling the two Brothers. Or at least, the only one to ever mention it.

"The relic hidden in Vale is the Crown of Choice, the one in Vacuo is the Sword of Destruction. " Something to remember. The academy's only existed /after/ the War. So it was very possible that if the King of Vale was an Ozma incarnation (high likelihood IMO) then he not only knew of, but probably had access to the relics directly. While I don't think Jaune has any ties to the King, his grandfather was probably high rank/positioned enough to be a big name for Vale. After all, Jaune's parents were able to have, raise and support ten children.

Cinder's Apologist

yep, those two continents are supposed to resemble the Brothers! very perceptive. focus on the scepter and the green... it's one of Oz's former lives. it was established elsewhere that Ozpin's predecessor established the huntsmen academies, so there's no doubt that he was the last king of Vale. since you've been enjoying "Roman Holiday" so much and want to know more about Vacuo, I strongly urge you to read the other two books "After the Fall" and "Before the Dawn" which are set in Vacuo and largely follow Team CFVY as well as Team SSSN. they provide some great backstories for minor characters as well as introduce you to the land and the people of Vacuo. out of all the WoR videos, I would say my favorite is the SDC one because of how it is told and because it provides some much needed context for why the Schnee family became what they are. it matters that you know Weiss's grandfather Nicholas (yep, Jolly Old Saint Nick) was a hero to better understand the burden she carries of trying to reclaim her family legacy - and why Jacques' influence is so bad beyond the obvious stuff up front. I do love the early ones with Salem narrating because of how she delivers them, and it can be fun to go back and listen closely to what she says once you know a lot more about the world - and her. also fun to compare how Salem narrates versus how Ozpin narrates; in case you haven't noticed, the ways they each describe things matters a great deal.

Cinder's Apologist

yeah, small detail but still good to know. another reason to read the CFVY books because "Before the Dawn" delves a bit into why Sun left Vacuo

SauceyRed

I'm ngl I hadn't noticed until she pointed it out and I looked it up and found some Reddit posts, and I've watched this show like a dozen times by now lmao

SauceyRed

So I looked up the transcript for the WoR about the Great War on the wiki, and when the scepter is mentioned, it links to Oz's staff. Considering we've always seen him with it in all his lives, I personally agree, I feel like it's a bit more likely than him having 3 out of 4 relics.

xXxMidnightxXx 19

For the king of Vale it’s 99.9% confirmed to be one of Oz previous life a couple of thing hints at this 1 his was the king of vale where did beacon used to stand vale 2 in the story the king is green this could be just for the story but what is Oz’s colour green 3 the story mentioned 3 very interesting details the king had a golden crown a sword and a spectre now why is that important let’s go back to when the god light was showing the relics what did he show a crown a sword a spectre/staff and a lamp and last point Oz predecessor established the huntmen academies with 3 other trusted followers sounds familiar doesn’t it

Anton

The theory that Jaune is the descendent of the last king of Vale has been around for a very long time and I really do hope that it does happen. I’m probably the only one here that’s going to say that there is a good chance that Oz wasn’t the last King of Vale. For every single point for, there is an equally strong point against. So don’t take it as gospel until it’s confirmed in show either way.

milkystross

The king of vale is absolutely Oz, he was weilding the relic of destruction, the relic of choice, as well as his trusty cane. Plus we already know it was Oz who established the academies. He could still be Jaune's ancestor though, as crazy as that would be

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Okay, so: Fun fact about how the map of Remnant came to be. Monty Oum, the show's writer, literally spilled some ketchup on a napkin and got some weird patterns. He took a photo of it and used it as the basic outline for Remnant's geography. He thought if he made the outline completely random, it'd be more realistic. The Brothers might have been influenced by the shape of the continents, not the other way around. My best guess is that Salem's on the dragon continent where nobody else lives, and the "paradise" in Vacuo's past was where the God of Light lived. I doubt the King of Vale is Jaune's ancestor, but I AM pretty sure he's Ozma's reincarnation before Ozpin. He's green, he has the scepter, he founded the Huntsman Academies... There's a similar series called RWBY: Fairy Tales which you might want to check out. It has some worldbuilding on the in-universe stories of the show. How much of them are true is up to interpretation.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

I haven't heard a single point against it. Ozpin has explicitly stated he founded the Huntsman Academies, it'd be pretty hard for him not to be the King of Vale.

David Johnson

Interestingly, Oz could have tons of descendants who are completely unrelated to each other, because he had them in different bodies. Though my *personal* feeling is that he has none.

milkystross

We see in volume 6 that one of his incarnations did have children, but I reckon that the only children he "had" were probably ones that already existed before he took over his next host

Anton

Ozpin is an unreliable narrator and has been known to hides either parts or all of the truth. So anything he, Qrow or Raven says has to be taken with a grain of salt, as it can’t be trusted to be the fully truthful. Ozpin said he helped build the schools and that doesn’t mean he was the King himself, they could have been easily two separate people.

Angelia Dark

"Jaune is descended from the last King of Vale" and "Oz's former incarnation was the last King of Vale" are two theories I stand by, and I just find to be an interesting connection. Oz HAD to have known Jaune's school transcripts were bunk but he let Jaune in anyway.

Suplee215

Im of the opinion neither side shot first. Salem did.

Moonas

"The last King of Vale who founded the Huntsman academies" it's Oz's former lives, u can even see his staff.

Lee Goldberg

I can’t believe that neither her or Moscow picked up on the very obvious fact that the king of vale was Oz. Green is his associated color, they mentioned the fact that he wielded a sword and a staff (his cane), and that he founded the four schools and appointed their headmasters, which has been stated several times throughout the series

GeminiRosche13

The king of Vale was absolutely a past life of Ozma’s. Whether he was also Jaune’s ancestor is less clear, but Jaune did talk about his grandpa being in the Great War at the very least.

Vic Walker

The last king from Vale uses a scepter that looks very similar to Oz's cane, plus Oz said that he was the one that founded the huntsmen academies, so the king was one of Oz previous lifes. And about the last battle of the great war, the huge death count that ended with everyone kneeling to Vale's King. Notice how his crown and sword are yellow and not green like his scepter? It's a very known theory that he was actually using the destruction and choice relics during the war, and that's probably how he managed to won that battle and end the war (plus I bet his scepter had some kinetic energy to use too).

Vic Walker

I never realized the right side of the map is a dragon just like the brother of light. Watching WoR for the first time before or after the huge lore drop from volume 6 really makes a difference, because I saw it way before the lore drop, everyone at that time only saw a veiled woman and the obvious black dragon on the left side. But now I can see the other dragon and now I can't see the woman anymore. Fascinating.
