Vol 9 is here! Vol 9 is here! Elijah is now so close to catching up. I can’t believe it. 🥳🥹❤️🤍🖤💛

Pain

(๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧ʸᴱˢ BEST VOLUME BEGINS

Dre

I expected this thumbnail lol. “I guess you could say they caught you… unarmed? How disarming…” I mean obviously that moment is great because it’s super gay. But also because Blake is making bad puns just like Yang.

Solus

YAY!!! it's happening, also I hope everyone had a great Christmas and a great New Years

Luís Pacheco

OH YEAH RWBY ON MY BIRTHDAY ❤️🤍💛🖤

The Biggest Gay

AHHHHH IM SO EXCITED FOR VOL 9, I HOPE YOU LOVE IT ELIJAH!!!!

joshua Miller

THANK GOD DHE FINALLY REACHED PEAK RWBY!!!!!!!! I’ve been waiting for her to get to this volume for months

FullmetalNinja25

Fun Fact: That's Luci Christian as Little The Mouse, she was also Little Miss Malachite the leader of the Spiders in Volume 6 and Fria the Winter Maiden in Volume 7. Also Little as well as pretty much everyone in the Ever After goes by They/Them.

Taigan

I’m almost literally hyperventilating as I click the link!

LikeCat

Fun fact: Vol9 Chp1 was the FIRST time they name dropped Gamble Shroud in the show... Yeah.

LikeCat

We had to wait about 2 years for Vol 9, we thought we got over the Vol 8 finale then the teaser dropped (the Ruby POV stuff) and that wound open right up again

GeminiRosche13

Sadly, the script has confirmed that the voice calling to Ruby towards the start was Penny

LikeCat

Music fun fact: While Vol 1-8's soundtrack was written by Jeff Williams (and sang by himself and his daughter Casey), Vol 9's soundtrack is written (and sang) by Casey herself (and her band OK Goodnight - whose songs are fire and highly recommend listening to them)

Crow

Yeah ngl WBY could’ve done much better for ruby 😬

Crow

Ladies and gentlemen we are here! Just a few more videos ifykyk 😏

Sir_Adamus

not even calling her, it's just the last thing she heard Penny say before she fell - it's the same vocal clip from Penny before she threw Blake to catch Ruby, it's a memory

Rupert Anderson Jr

Vol 9 reacts are finally here! Its going to have everything! its going to be sad, its going to be weird, its going to be uplifting, some parts might be deeply upsetting, but most of all is going to be fun!

LikeCat

Ninjas of love is (in my humble opinion) Tusk Love after THE Date.

Ep 1: Rocking Horse Fly. Alice in Wonderland indeed. Fun fact: Little is voiced by the same woman who voiced Lil Miss Malachite in V6 and Fria (the previous Winter Maiden) back in V7. Also, Little goes by They/Them. The fact that Yang thought she was actually in some sort of afterlife after having died protecting her sister and then she sees her team there and is not happy because then that means she didn’t save them and they “died” anyway. Like, okay, yeah CRWBY just drop that whole load of depression on us. And then there’s the fact that Ruby just walks over and is like “of course we’d come after you, did you forget who raised me?” and it’s totally pointing out that Yang was the parent for a lot of Ruby’s childhood because Summer was presumed dead and Tai shut down and of course if it had been Ruby who went down first Yang wouldn’t have hesitated to go after her! Ep 2: The Girl Who Fell Through the World was brought up several times last volume and is basically RWBY’s version of Alice in Wonderland. Bees!!!!! Blake making puns and being cheeky with Yang! They’re so cute! The little moment where their fingers almost touch! UGH! Just do it already! Come on! Watching these two gives me cuteness aggression. “Despite us.” Phew boy. What a line, short as it is. Then Ruby not having enough hope to fill the jar (which due to the camera angle holds Penny’s doll and then Little) is… a big yikes. Lindsey’s voice acting was so good this episode, holy shit. I teared up at Ruby’s eulogy for Penny. “I say we follow it and stop pretending we know what we’re doing.” Give therapy to all these kids please.

Sir_Adamus

so that mouse isn't voiced by Mela Lee (who voiced Cordovin, the woman Maria has beef with - though fun fact, Mela Lee was Kikimora in The Owl House), they're voiced by someone named Jamie Battle, who doesn't seem to have a lot of other voice roles

Adrian ruiz martinez

Okay, just cos of haven't seen some else say it, little pronouns are they/them

Taigan

Wow, Elijah said so many things that made me scream into my pillow watching this.

LikeCat

Yeah... Same... I may have watched V9 a lot. 😅

Flufux

Notice how those bisexual flag-coloured flowers always appeared next to Blake specifically.

Rando

We are in the home stretch now! Her faith in Neo is gonna be put to the ultimate test in this volume

Luna Methner

Since ninjas of love is implied to be yaoi, I like to think it’s RWBY’s version of Naruto

Enchanted_Echo

(please someone get this reference) Alright guys, gals, and non-binary pals, now that we are in volume 9 remember, if you hear someone talk about delicious pancakes.........JUMP THEM!!

Zora Brightwood

I'll admit in the throws of grief of watching vol 8 finale I did think that Little sounded like Penny and I sobbed for a whole other reason that I made up in my mind.

Zora Brightwood

I can already imagine two of Elijah's reactions to big moments for those times she is definitely gonna walk outside of the room and freak out. 😅

Enchanted_Echo

OMG I nearly chocked on a specific section of the video, so let me just say, YOU COULDN'T HAVE SAID ANYTHING BETTER! CHOOSE BETTER WORDING, LMAO

Rachel Mae

Little as well as most of the Afterans use they/them pronouns :) And idk what Ninjas of Love is based on but ill say my fav fndm head canon about v9 is that Blake has written self insert fanfic about the world they're in

Artificial Wench

Not many detail about Ninjas of Love are really known but in Rwby Chibi it is very much suggested it is a rather smutty romance novel. The man with 2 Souls is unrelated to Ozpin. It is actually the remnant version of the Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde story. The RWBY fairy tales book and mini series explores various in universe fairy tales that are likely based on true stories

Chris Spigelmyer

Ninja of love is definitely 50 shades of grey ish. Those bee reactions? Amazing lol. Also remember these characters know Ruby is upset but at the same time they're not mind readers so they KNOW but they don't know know essentially.

Chris Spigelmyer

Also the ever afterins are all non-binary so pretty much every one here is They/Them

Janice Marie Audio

“Rainbow tea? I would drink that.” Aha… haha… HAH!

Corvidae_Isabella

So, all of volume 8 was roughly 72 hours in-universe for team Rwby, meanwhile, all of volume 9 is going to be roughly 48 hours of events for team Rwby. Less than 8 hours prior to them falling, Ruby and yang had talked about the hound and summer. Just so you know how *fast* everything is happening to all of them, nonstop, without time to process. And as for who was calling to Ruby at the beach, according to the script of the episode, it was Penny’s voice. Just like how Pyrrha’s voice was coming through to Ruby in volume 4 in a couple episodes. Also, you just watched in real time how Ruby bottled up a metaphorical and literal rainstorm of sadness. I wonder how long it’s going to take before that bottle breaks.

Evil Queen

One of my favorite volumesss! The bee reactions amazing, but also Weiss takes the cake with the comedy, she just cannot handle the logic behind the Ever After. Also the tea you would drink eh? Great reaction! 🐝

TheyWereMarried

Little's pronouns are they/them "I've been on this shit for 9 volumes" We had to wait 10 YEARS! Longest sapphic slowburn ever.

Corvidae_Isabella

Actually, it isn’t. Penny calls Ruby 3 times in different intonations. A couple of them aren’t ones from memory. And what Ruby was hearing as she passing out and falling to the ground was a slowed down, reverberated clip of Penny screaming right when cinder stabbed her with the Grimm hand. Ruby was not there for that, she’d already fallen.

Shay

Perfect interpretation😆

Tammy Ragsdale

The question of "who are you" and finding your purpose are both very important for the Ever After. Those are going to keep coming up. They really go all out on the facial expressions in this volume. One of my favorites is Yang at the auction on seeing the Jinxy Peddler. Weiss is all "so cute," Blake says "Older than the book," Yang is just angry. Blake mentioning the peddler being older is a clue that some things might not be exactly as they were in the book. Also, the Ever After is reacting to them being here. If you watch, the Peddler singles out Yang and the guard before they call out to him, almost as they raise their hands. The peddler knows who the important characters are. On the Bee moments. With the almost hand hold, Blake reaches out almost touching. Yang reaches back a moment later. They are normally so in sync, but this is new so they miss touching by a micro-second. And the sound people went the extra mile when Blake tackles Yang and says her name. It's muffled a little, because her face is in the fur at the top of Yang's jacket. Lastly, I'm going to give a small defense for the others as far as Ruby's situation goes. They do ask her, a few times, if she is all right. She is just brushing them off or changing the subject. When Yang asks her after she passes out, she talks about Neo. When Weiss says she knows it was a lot to hear, Ruby turns it into comforting Weiss. When they ask after the auction, she focuses on what comes next in the story. They could do more, despite everything going on, but they have noticed and tried to get her to talk.

Verdant Crown

The fact that Blake and Yang can joke around and make puns about Yangs missing arm really shows how far they've come from their mutual trauma. It's such a wonderful thing to see!

Isadora

Seeing the volume 8 fight in Ruby's POV has the added "bonus" of showing us how fast everything was happening, since we only saw Yang fall in slow motion, and so we can understand how fast Blake was running to reach the edge in time. Next Gambol Shroud upgrade is gonna be a veeery long ribbon lol.

Dyamalos

One of the things is that every other time Ruby has always put on a strong face. She's had low points, but she has always managed to stand up and press on. We see a bit of this starting to seep though in the last season. She was starting to second guess herself because every decision seems like it has backfired to some degree as more and more stuff kept happening. I see this as the rest feeling like she is still working though things, that they are there for her as she has been for them, but they don't know how much she's put the weight on her shoulders.

Enchanted_Echo

Welcome one and all to Volume 9, The Ever After Wonderland meets Steven Universe Future, good job on picking on that fast because the premise is this is Alice in Wonderland with quite a few differences - With how fast everything went in Ruby's POV, you can really see how fast all events plays out, exhibit A: Yang's Fall - Time around here will be working slightly different than what you're used too, you'll see further down the line - At the start when Ruby fell and you heard an echo voice......it's revealed via script transcript that it was Penny's voice. - I'm happy to see with Volume 9 you are getting the intros again because that'll save the warning for Episodes 7 & 8 which is to come so be prepared - You might want to save Volume 9 reactions last through your records because as you can see, if you want happiness and light heartiness you will be getting some trauma to balance it out - While some are in a fairy tale living it up (stares at Yake and Blang) not everyone will be getting that as we see with Ruby and with the intro, pay close attention to what she says and her actions/movement - Our little friend has a hidden meaning behind them, let's see if you can find out what it is (they're also non-binary) - Wile Ruby was recovering after hearing about Penny, she is placed in the Recovery position which is a medical thing you're suppose to do when someone faints so they can breathe better I do believe - I'm not the best with this king of stuff but if I was Blake and I saw my crush possible die without saying how I feel, you better believe I'm going to change that when I see them again and change the pace with telling them how they feel and not leave their side. - Ruby is traumatized, Weiss is comedic relif/ **traumatized in style**, Yake and Blang are in a.......romance fairy tale by the looks of things. - A few of the other things you were asking will need to be on hold for now as we will circle back to it - I still recommend with at least episode 6 to watch it by it's self because a lot goes down you might want to take time to understand Next Episode will be the debut of my all time favorite RWBY song as with Volume 9 and up will all be preformed and written mainly by Casey Williams as in the past it was her and her dad Jeff Williams, enjoy the journey because things are going to be a bit different this time around with the last volume officially until you join the wait with us :D

Sir_Adamus

The Man With Two Souls is just the in-universe version of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde - every time the book's text appears through the franchise, deciphering the text shows it's lifted directly from that novella, and it's actually a plot point in the 2019 comic, with the borrowed narration again being paraphrased from that novella - the same comic also listed a bunch of other books Blake reads that are classic novels (The Corpse Doctor - Frankenstein, The Vampire Count - Dracula)

LikeCat

„Welcome one and all to" Me: Weirdmageddon (tbf its not TOO far off 🤣)

Vince

Blake: I will seduce her in the only language she understands; *puns*.

Dyamalos

No time to process and barely time to rest outside of being knocked out for however long when they fell. They've been running on empty for a while at this point and had to fight people who should have been their allies. Season 8 was also a prime example of Salem's strategy: Divide and conquer. James knew she manipulated people and knew she was actively manipulating him and he did exactly what she wanted when the moment he started using his "turn me into a psychopath" semblance all the time.

Zirkumflex

The Bees are flirting, Ruby is badly handling trauma and Weiss takes up the mantle of being comedic relief. As to Ninjas of Love, I think it is the kind of steamy bodice ripper Novel that can be less politely described as porn. Though the fairy tale book has quite a few stories, some of which I think have some basis in former lives of Oz. There should be no more spoilers in it and I love the stories and illustrations.

RetroBeastto

Since you’re on this volume please be sure to Watch the Intro again on episode 6. They make a minor change to it which is a fun detail to see. Ruby is indeed going through the motions. Loved your reaction as always

Enchanted_Echo

**looks at Volume 9** ......,you know that's true as well

LikeCat

I remember Arnold's reaction to that intro... Since after first Episode of each Volume he listens to the intro so he can sing-along for the rest. 🤣

Dyamalos

One of the things that I think makes the show so good is that it takes it's time getting us to know these characters. They aren't rushing to hit deadlines or trying to appease a corporate overload who doesn't understand storytelling. I hope that continues moving forward with the new ownership. These characters were able to be fleshed out so much they feel like real people. It's why moments like this hit so hard. We know how Ruby has been up to this point, and even if she's had low moments before she always *tried*. This time it's obviously different. It's such a little moment, but when she is stuck in the loop and collapses by the tree and starts crying you immediately know this isn't going to be the same as the other times. We've never seen her break down like that and be that vulnerable. And she only does it when she is alone, not when her team is around. Even when she had the moment in the second episode where it started raining harder than it did the first time she shows way less of it.

Potato

Unfortunately (and i think the writting is good to point that point even if its not ideal) but the rest of them support and love ruby but she was and has always been the optimistic child among them so they never had to comfort her. Shes always been the one to support and comfort everyone and was the most emotionally reliable so when she falls in the mud they dont catch or recognise it cause its something theyve never seen in ruby before. Everyone is kind of in their heads finding their ways to kind of pass through what happened to find a way to get back but ruby has been falling on that slope since volume 7 finale and its been gradual with everything that shes seen and had to do and take on herself but noone else picks up on that cause ruby herself never let anything show enough to let them see she needed help cause she wanted to be the reliable leader. So now it just takes them a good minute to catch up Sad but it makes a lot of sense unfortunately Also on a happier silly note I love how the sapphic moments make people giggle like teens again XD its cute man noone can deny that

Enchanted_Echo

Anyone want a cup of tea to digest it all?

Magikltrevr

Little uses They/Them pronouns!

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

I still think it sounds like a Broadway musical that Max Bialystock would produce

George Kallas

Everyone, we have arrived at RWBY Volume 9. Which I suspect will come to be known as the volume where Elijah Loses. Her. Shit.

Martin E Melcher

Chapter 8, I would suggest putting up a content warning. It gets fairly heavy. Also, maybe a headphone warning for chapter 6

CheetsAC7

I have been so excited for you to reach Volume 9. This one immediately became my favorite after watching it. Ruby definitely going through it so far. We see Yang pick up on it after she faints by asking if Ruby is okay, but Ruby doesn't even give Yang a response and ignores the question. Can't really force someone to open up about things until they are ready. I really liked the subtle change in Blake's behavior with Yang. Gives me the impression shes thrown caution to the wind and is much more obvious in how shes feeling. Great tie in to how Blake must have been certain Yang died when she fell.

Nektis Noir

Just to be clear, Little is a non-binary character and goes by they/them pronouns. The general rule about Ever Afterans is they all go by they/them unless otherwise specified (which rarely happens beyond like one or two characters).

CB Jones

I don't think it's entirely a problem of them not realising. Yang is asking how Ruby is after she faints and wakes up, Weiss tries to talk about Penny on their walk to the village and Blake and Yang both try to check in with her in the clearing. Every time Ruby deflects or ignores it. They don't realise how serious it's gotten but equally Ruby isn't accepting any support that's offered. Could they push harder? Sure. But that's just as likely to backfire than help, and they're all missing an important piece of context. Back in Vol1 Ruby talks with Jaune about leadership. She tells him that now that they're leaders their needs come second to their teams "Your a leader now Jaune, you're not allowed to be a failure". Now in the moment it is what Jaune needed to hear, but it's a pretty toxic thing for her to believe about her new role. And it's voiced where none of her team can hear it, which matters because it's something I can't imagine any of them would have agreed with. Can you really see Yang, having spent the last 15 years raising Ruby, being ok with her saying she's less important? It's not 100% clear where Ruby's ideas around leadership come from, she's pretty set in them from the start, but the cracks get worse after she realises the people above her haven't been telling the truth and don't have the answers either. There's nobody left she feels like she's allowed to talk to, and she's not to blame for believing that but she is the only one who can really do anything about it. She thinks she can't be a failure to her team so she just has to shove down her problems and not let anyone know how she's doing. Until she can't.

Saph

I’d like to recommend being a bit more patient with WBY when it comes to Ruby, they’ve seen that something is going on with her but: 1.) Not opening up cause she’s use to being the positive one 2.) there is so much going on right now it’s understandable to keep moving 3.) reminder that people aren’t mind readers and you can’t know what’s going on with someone unless they choose to tell you and right now Ruby isn’t doing that

Potato

Yeah thats excactly what i mean. They try to help but they never really see how ruby feels cause she lets noone in and it has never gotten to such a serious point before so they have no clue but it still sucks. They arent at fault to be fair to all of them Even if you see someone struggling and you say hey you really dont seem okay theyll just explode on you cause theyll get triggered. It still sucks to see them not be able to help her more tho cause ruby is shutting down it just sucks no matter how many times you see it

Kiesen

I cannot overstate enough how excited I've been for you to get to this volume. I've been waiting for it since you started volume 1. It's genuinely my favorite. - It's been such a joy to see you dive head first into RWBY and become super weird about it. Like me too girl I have so much RWBY stuff in my room. - I will warn though, there was some production issues with this. Due to Warner Brothers cutting budget, they had to reduce the episode count and cut some stuff, so if you see some rough edges around the plot that's primarily why. - Lmao hope you're ready for all the episodes having super long names. - Seeing Yang's fall at full speed instead of slow motion really makes you realize how fucking FAST Blake's reaction speed was. Like holy shit. - Hope you like puns and general play on words because there's a lot in this weird hell. - The crew has always wanted to incorporate more animals into the series but budget didn't allow for much of it. - Rooster Teeth actually sold a small plush of Little (I think it had some velcro?) in their shop well until the end. You could probably find one on ebay. - I do love the concept of a society where its members aren't given names until they find their purpose. Might steal that for some OCs. - Lmao. No comment. - Weiss is the "comedic relief" this volume, but real fans know that she always has been. White girl has been tormented since day 1. - They sure have a good reason to be scared of cats. - Blake's little finger wiggles as she mimes Yang's hair texture is everything to me. - Ding ding ding. This volume is indeed based a lot on Alice in Wonderland. But like usual, it's RWBY's take on the story, not a 1:1. - Lindsay Jones does such a good job with conveying just how depressed Ruby is. They've become such a great actor in general, but damn do they do a hell of a job this volume. - "I know how this sounds, but... I think we're in a fairy tale" girl if only you knew how accurate that is. - Loving your take on this world. Keep going, especially since the setting allows it to be much more open to interpretation. Plus you're always pretty on the pulse of this series in one way or another. - This is the first volume where Casey Lee Williams is music director and primary composer, as she took over her father's position once he retired. So she brought a lot of new sounds into the tracks. The intro in particular is actually inspired by Unravel from Tokyo Ghoul. - If you notice, Blake actually takes the lead of the group in the intro. Weiss wanted to be the leader in V1, but Blake was always more of a leader, just outclassed by Ruby. The scripts for the scenes this volume sometimes reflect that, by putting "B" at the front of "RWBY", mainly as "BWY". - Girl you do NOT want to drink that tea. - There's so much meta comedy to this. Like oh no there's no way us, the fairy tale people, could be in a fairy tale. - I wish we could properly hear all of Weiss' lines in her little rambles. They're really obscured. Kara I want to hear your hilarious work. - The Girl Who Fell Through the World!!! They mentioned that story in V8. Oscar specifically mentions it. - Never noticed that the stars over Yang's head are in the RWBY colors. I say this like every reaction but I really need to rewatch this series on a bigger screen than just my phone or laptop. I want to notice all these details myself. - "About time." - Considering how much guilt Blake had over Yang losing her arm, it's really cute seeing her willing to joke about it. Same with Yang being able to have fun with it. - Blake's little "nya" pose fucking kills me. I have art of it on my wall. - Little's song here was actually improvised. - Penny's sword was disguised as a doll. Har har har. - I don't think they really notice her depression because Ruby has always been the one to keep her chin high and get through the worst of things while still maintaining hope. They've also become so open with each other that they probably assume she'd say something if she was upset, but alas Ruby got some horrible advice in V1: "Being a team leader isn't just a title you carry into battle, but a badge you wear constantly. If you're not always performing at your absolute best, then what reason do you give others to follow you?" - I cry over this little speech every time. Penny, baby girl... - No guesses for what Ninjas of Love is based on (if anything). Heard it has a hell of a katana though!

Curtis Murphy

The reason it's taking the rest of the team so long to figure out what's wrong with Ruby is because she's always been the source of optimism and hope. They're not used to it. And when they do eventually ask her what's wrong, she deflects and then they get distracted by something else

CB Jones

Woo! Vol9, I'm sure it'll be ok... eventually. Ok I want to talk about the auction but first- Yang. So Yang's timeline is so facinating. She falls, wakes up with her arm stolen and thinking she's dead. So what does she do? She picks a fight with a weird talking monster, forces it to flee and then chases it through an unfamiliar jungle. This girl has NO chill. Secondly I love the subtle callback of Yang seeming to know "The Girl who Fell Through the World" better than anyone besides Blake given Ruby mentioning that Yang was the one reading her bedtime stories every night. Ok, the auction. Because this scene is perfect. We're told Jinxy asks for whatever he wants as he sells a statue for a hug, but little remaks on how valuable hugs are. Then the scepter goes for "knowing what it is to feel loved", a bit of a whiplash moment and one that stumps Yang. Once the statue is revealed to be a mouse like Little the pieces fall into place. The price is not arbitrary, it's tied to what the item or it's owner hold most dear. Because Yang lost her arm for love, where the rest of team Ruby have larger scale goals of saving the world, uplifting the faunus and reclaiming their name Yang is almost solely motivated by her need to be there for the people she loves. It's why she fought through a burning school for Blake, it's why she put on the prosthetic for Ruby. Yang loves them fiercely and the feeling of that love reciprocated is worth much more than the arm itself. Something she's evidenced in her actions. And while this is going on we have Ruby reaching for the last piece of Penny even before she knows what it is. Hope was the thing Penny valued. Hope that she could leave Atlas and stay with Ruby back at the Vital Festival, hope that she could be the protector Mantle needed, hope that Winter would follow what she knew was right rather than what she was told and hope that she could be "real" and live happily with her friends. And Ruby feels a bond to Penny's sword where Yang didn't feel one to her own arm because Penny was SO important to Ruby where Yang's arm was never more important than those she was prepared to give it for.

CB Jones

It was a meme in the fandom by this point of how often Blake is put infront of things that look like the bisexual flag, suspiciously coloured sunsets, backdrops and something with Forever Fall if I remember correctly, the crew just kept leaving them in there.

Lavender Onyxheart

you may not want to skip over the intro, there are a few changes that happen in it over the course of the volume

CrowOfAFeather

"Whyy Neo whyy" It's almost like she's a murderous villainess or something. Might need a reminder of everything she's done up until this point. "This poor kid is not getting a chance to process" You are so right, and best to remember that part. Yep, Little (they/them) is precious. Mhm. "She's looking for her girlfriend-" Whoa there, they never got together nor have they been on a date. "You're probably gonna be the main villain but I still fucking love you." Ugh. Interesting theories, I'm certain you'll have a lot of fun with theory crafting until you get the answers.

Lyra

When the racoon holds the jar and asks for hope... Well, you should watch that scene again, there's something with meaning, not everyone catches it at first.

Ryan

Chapter 1: Well the episode titles alone tell us we're entering our Alice in Wonderland arc. And knowing CRWBY, it will be true to the source material - whimsical, unhinged, and traumatizing. (Blake pounces on Yang) ... and maybe a little gay. The intro makes me feel that this volume is going to be one long acid trip. And I am here for it. Chapter 2: A talking raccoon stole Yang's arm? I did not expect an Marvel reference in RWBY. Ninjas of Love is about the complicated, clandestine relationships between the non-related members of Team STRQ. The proof of that is in RWBY Chibi.

RenaissanceM

Guys……guys she made it to Volume 9……..we’re actually here………..words cannot express the emotions I’m feeling……..😭😭😭

.

I like that Elijah is enjoying this volume cause it's my favorite volume in the series. Most reaction channels just seem completely confused by the first few episodes, and can't work that the story is like Alice in Wonderland or that it's about fairytales and morals and purpose. Elijah is nailing the understanding of this volume and it's refreshing. I'm glad and so happy! Can't wait for her to watch more episodes, it just gets better and better.

.

That makes a lot of sense! I always found their gender ambiguous.

SportySpice

Blake is in “I thought I watched Yang die and I’m not wasting any more time” mode. I see Ruby’s speech as a eulogy for Penny. Ep 2 is a well balanced episode. We have lots of set up and hijinks but an emotional punch at the end. Echoing others in reinforcing that WBY are repeatedly checking in with Ruby but she’s brushing them off or the plot is interrupting. That said, I think the show is a bit clunky here - I understand the writers are trying to highlight Ruby’s despondency and isolation, but I think WBY take some unintended collateral damage in the show getting from A to B. Especially since we’ve seen Yang and Blake give Ruby a pep talk last volume when she was doubting herself. WBY have been there for her, they have noticed her crumbling under leadership before, Ruby has had a support system, etc so it’s a bit hard to swallow the contrivance here for me. But ignoring the puppet strings from the writers, it’s a good start.

RenaissanceM

*See’s the Jabber Walker* “What are you?!?!” Me: Heh….you’d fit right in to the Ever After…..😅

RenaissanceM

And thus begins Weiss Schee’s slow descent into the madness that is Volume 9 of RWBY 🤣

Stabby_Taco

It came from Ozpin (which makes sense because he felt like he needed to keep things from people because how do you explain the gods threatening to end them all if they can't get along?) Ruby took what he said to heart because she's a kid who had all this hope, but also, she wanted to be like the heros in stories. Which I think is clever because so many older fairy tales don't talk about what the heros go through but just the happy ever after. Life isn't like books. It was a big growing up moment for me when I realized how hardening the world actually can be. It's all really clever and why I love this show so much!

CB, think back to volume 1 and Ozpin's quote to Ruby, "Being a team leader isn't just a title you carry into battle, but a badge you wear constantly. If you are not always performing at your absolute best, then what reason do you give others to follow you?" He is absolutely responsible for Ruby's mindset on leadership. I mean he's right with this advice, but his execution in explanations is horrible especially when explaining this to a 15 year old girl with confidence issues (She wanted to be "Normal Knees" remember?). If you read the RWBY: After the Fall novel, it shows Coco having this same mindset too and giving Ruby this same advice.

Lu Cy

agree

Inspector Apples Gaming

I know Elijah said something a while back about potentially reacting to the soundtrack and I think she definitely should. Casey took over music production for Volume 9 and it has my favorite music of the whole show

Lu Cy

I dont like the fact that some fans said the team (specifically Yang) are bad persons for ignoring Ruby’s valid trauma, but don’t see how all of them are there for each other but the storyline and also ruby’s isolation (which is a 100% valid because she didn’t have time to cope, as none of them did) did not allow for them to show her that totally. Paint them as bad persons is so untrue, and I dislike how everyone seems to have wby because of this

I'm low key worried she will react so hard that she will hurt her self. Not being sarcastic.

defy4bees

This is a really important thing to consider for this volume, thank you for sharing. They (WBY) must think that Ruby is going to bounce back like she always does, without considering that this time she might not.

Pecher

You used a very specific choice of words about someone doing something to someone else in this video and now I'm going to spend the whole volume waiting for that moment to happen

Jack Middleton

Let's go this Season is so different and yet it is one of my favourites.

Mare

Wow, the "Ruby-Whisperer" is totally back. Also, one thing about the writers in V9 and basically all of the series, is that they focus more on driving the story forward and hitting the plot points on Monty's road map that he left behind, that sometimes, context within the scenes get lost thanks in part to budget and time constraints. If you pay close attention, Ruby either deflects or stays silent whenever the rest of the team asks if she's okay. Just as a reminder, Some of Ruby's and Yang's traits were from their father, Taiyang as it was explained by Bernie Burns that Tai's issues reflect the scenario of a "soldier coming back from war and never sharing their entire experience because of trauma." Basically they're too engulfed in their PTSD, so they stay silent about their experiences. Both Yang and Ruby picked up this trait of "compartmentalization" and staying silent about their traumas. And that's what you're seeing with Ruby. So Yang doesn't exactly recognize what's going on with Ruby because, Ruby is choosing to stay silent. So basically this is the "Xiao Long method" for coping with Trauma. And yeah, you're right about this volume being Ruby's turn to learn how much of a toxic trait that is.

Zero Blazer Gaming

"Ninjas of Love" is a confirmed, in universe erotic novel. watch Blake's eyes when she puts it on the shelf and you will under stand. Also make sure you re-watch the intro once you get to chapter (episode) 6.

Mitch

This is the volume I have been most excited to see her react to, this is gonna be good

Mitch

It's one of those small details that tells so much if you're paying attention. Blake becoming more emotionally open and silly ever since Adam's death is a great way of showing how much she's healed, and Yang has always been willing to joke about her arm ever since reuniting with everyone(her ejecting it to launch Nora across the room when arm wrestling)

SauceyRed

My sleep schedule is fucked so I just woke up, but HELL YEAH LET’S GOOOO!!! I’m so thankful for the Trello, it’s so nice to get a small heads up for when things release, and be able to look forward to them.

Symbolic Remnant

One pill makes you larger, and one pill makes you small. And the Pills that mother gives you don’t do anything at all. Go ask Alyx, when she’s 10 feet tall.

Ann_Temki

So “fun” fact is that, that beginning pov bit was all we had of volume 9 for like a year and a half-ish😭

SportySpice

Yes, the writers have a destination for Ruby in mind and unfortunately WBY are just set pieces and not characters for that, so I refuse to condemn them personally for that stuff. This volume is a lot of “I know what the writers are going for here, but I don’t know if they executed it the way they thought they did.” As fans of WBY, I wish there was more “How would [__] act in this situation?” And not “How do I need [__] to act or not act in this situation to get to this next station in Ruby’s arc?” from the writing team. But oh well.

Bryan Forquer

Yes, so glad you finally made it to volume 9! My favorite episode of the entire series is in this volume!(coming up soon) my favorite part of episode 1 is definitely the Bumbleby hug, I love that Blake was so happy to see Yang that she basically tackled her into a hug. The way that Blake says Yang's name was so sweet! She pretty much thought Yang was dead. I'm glad they showed the main characters get reunited in the first episode. That way it gives them more time to focus on the main storyline of this volume since it's only 10 episodes. Episode 2. Arryn Zech has definitely been waiting ages for Blake to finally make a pun and she nailed it! Also I think Rooster Teeth confirmed that all of the characters in the Ever After universe are non-binary, So Little is they/them pronouns. Lastly Ninjas of love is definitely fiction, erotic fan fiction but fiction none the less. So it isn't based off anything that really happened.

LikeCat

God you're right... Why did I thought it got release close to the airing of Vol 9? (Retorical question) The amount of theory videos I watched on where they went/ how will they escape was probably most of the theory videos at the DREADFUL time between V8 and 9

Janice Marie Audio

We don’t talk enough about the fact that, um… Weiss is homeless now.

Ann_Temki

Yeah it was a ROUGH hiatus, but hey, at least Queendom Came out to keep the fandom(especially whiterose shippers) fed till v9💀

Konrad Dunbar

is this a bad time to point out that penny's body is also in the ever after? for a lot of people this episode confirmed that nuts and dolts might have had happened and that ruby might have had romantic feelings for penny! but then again people who like rose garden thing that neo turning into oscar is a sign lol the contrast between blake and yang getting closer to each other while weiss and ruby are drifting further away from each over everything that happened last volume really hurts! I do hope they get to talk to each other at some point! every member of team rwby has had a one on one heart to heart thus far with each other EXCEPT ruby and weiss so I can only pray it'll be good when we get one

Taigan

If it’s the one I’m thinking of, I was literally screaming into my pillow while watching that part.

Icebelle

Aw Ruby!🥺💔💔💖

Tekuno

Beautifully said. Kudos for that analysis!! 💯💯💯

CB Jones

Mare, you're right, I loosely remembered that but for some reason I thought it happened after her talk with Jaune. Vol1 is full of foreshadowing but it's crazy how even it's supposedly inspirational moments are laying the ground for tragedy later.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

There's a couple more RWBY miniseries out there after the main show is done: RWBY: Fairy Tales and RWBY: Beyond. I'd recommend checking them out. So in the context of Ruby's depression, I think her getting stuck in that loop is representative of how she's just been going through the motions for a while. Trying everything she can to keep people safe and it just doesn't work. The Tree represents something that can't be directly obtained, only reached by living your life. Little is kind of representative of the angel on Ruby's shoulder, if you will. They do their best to help her, like they promise in their first line of dialogue, but they're not always the best at it, just like Ruby herself. Interesting that the first thing Yang says after Ruby passes out is "Hey, you alright?" Then Ruby deflects. Yang does try to help Ruby, but Ruby's not reciprocating. Listen to Ruby's tone when she's trying to comfort Weiss. She has no passion whatsoever and seems to be struggling for words, when the past Ruby would've known exactly what to say. So Jinxy is based on a creature from Japanese legend called a tanuki. Of course, the tanuki have ginormous testicles, which Rooster Teeth rather strategically omitted. Also, I never realized before now that Weiss' "He's adorable!" was deliberately trolling Yang, good catch lol. Ruby giving up Penny's sword is representative of her trying to bottle up her grief again, use it as a bargaining chip to advance in their quest. She can definitely just keep this up all the time...

man-of-bvz1n3ss

I do think WBY not noticing makes sense, tbh. Ruby has always pushed away attempts to help her because she's the leader, and they're just kinda going along with it. Plus a lot of Ruby's more noticeable moments of depression happen when we the audience see it but WBY don't. Yang does try to check in with Ruby after she first faints, but Ruby rebuffs her.

Anthurak

One subtle detail I love about this volume is the understated genre-clash/whiplash at play? As in, we basically have the heroines of a Subversive Dark Fantasy Action series getting dropped straight into a Children's Storybook Fairy-tale, and NEITHER side really feels ready or equipped to deal with the other? Like on the one hand, the Jabberwalker is probably really scary, threatening and dangerous to a normal ten-year-old girl, but it turns out a team of veteran, badass monster hunters can send it packing without any trouble. And on the other hand, otherwise weird and silly requests like 'Knowing what it's like to feel loved' and 'Enough hope to fill a jar' sends our traumatized, emotional-baggage-ridden heroines nearly into an emotional breakdown. Volume 9 from the ground up is just so DIFFERENT from everything that came before and I love it XD

SauceyRed

Personally I'm okay with literally any of the popular pairings for Ruby, and also just no pairing at all. Rose Garden is just insanely adorable (though gotta resolve the Ozpin issue first), and White Rose is cute af with their banter and dynamic. The only one I don't like *as* much is Lancaster, but that's just because I find the other ones more interesting, I would still very much enjoy Lancaster, though I think I'd prefer White Knight for Jaune. And as I said, I would also be down with Ruby just not getting with someone at all. Ruby hasn't really been shown to think about stuff like that much, so she's like the only one I don't really have any particularly strong preference for in terms of ship.

Chibi_Witch888

Literally paused to see if someone said something 🤣

GeminiRosche13

Every member of the main cast gives possibly their best performances in this volume, but I think Kara’s actually the MVP with what she brings for Weiss.

Ian Moscrop

We've veen getting fed for 10 years of RWBY. Volume 9 is the all you can eat buffet.

SauceyRed

Yeah she's gonna have a time with that one lmao

Chibi_Witch888

I had to pause & come looking for the others 🤣 some thoughts mirror reality too well

SauceyRed

The Jabberwalker is in my top 3 in terms of RWBY creatures. Its design, the voice, the way it speaks, the way it moves, it's just so damn creepy and cool and awesome. The Nuckelavee is also in my top 3, as well as the Apathy.

Ian Moscrop

While Elijah was in the middle of volume 8 I was trying to map out her uploads and mark them on my calendar. If there weren't any delays, she would've seen episode 6 today. But she got sick and I couldn't account for that, so she's on episode 2 today instead. Hopefully there are no more delays because episode 6 is my favorite.

GeminiRosche13

Should we tell Elijah about Jinxy’s VA?…

Thomas Love

She is not prepared for the rollercoaster this Volume takes you on

man-of-bvz1n3ss

My crack theory is that Ninjas of Love is Kali's account of how she and Ghira got together, written under a psuedonym.

Suplee215

I really love Weiss in here. Its like the Ever After was designed to annoy her specifically.

Cinder's Apologist

I have been so eager to see your reactions to this volume!! yes, there will be PAIN as is the case with RWBY, but I know you're going to have a blast nonetheless. so that voice calling out to Ruby before she came to? that was Penny... I love how you picked up on the Wonderland motifs so fast, because yes, it is. and while the girls are indeed based on fairy tales themselves, you have to remember that in the world of Remnant, fairy tales are (for better or worse) a vehicle for telling the history of their world. that is something Mosco should surely find fascinating, but it's also handy to keep in mind as you progress through this volume in particular. after all, The Girl in the Tower was a fairy tale that contained some truth... that being Salem's origins ;) yesss we are so here for the growing bonds! it's so fun to see how Weiss and Blake have grown closer, and doubly fun when looking back at the very beginning. I can't say much right now, but fwiw regarding Yang... "How can I be there for her if she doesn't let me?" so yeah. Ruby is absolutely going through it this volume. you have been warned. Weiss is also having a time, that is true. but at least she gets to play comedic relief! and for the record, I enjoyed seeing that out of her this volume; it was both amusing and rather sad to realize why she keeps acting like this. ...... anyway, buzz buzz >.>

Casey

dude I've been WAITING for you to get to this volume and it's finally here!!This volume is one of my faves, the character stuff is just SO GOOD

Cinder's Apologist

oh yes, I almost forgot! Ninjas of Love is smut, or so the longstanding fandom joke goes. in other words, Blake arrived at Beacon with the things that truly mattered: a bow to hide her cat ears, Gambol Shroud, and written pornography XD

Isadora

I just noticed the coolest detail at the beginning when we're in Ruby's POV: whenever the scene changes, her eyelids close, and the moment she's looking at Cinder we see a blurry white effect around a circular shape, which is exactly when in volume 8 we saw Ruby was about to use her silver eyes on Cinder! Meaning we basically had a glimpse into what Ruby sees when she activates them! I love that so much.

Enchanted_Echo

Apathy to me will always be the scariest, partly because of their power and sound they make, makes me wonder what the next creatures will be like after 9, I know we got glimpse in RWBY JL part 2 but I wonder what more on the scarier side will be like

Enchanted_Echo

I hope they remember the fact they said it because when it happens......my god

Ko Villa

VOLUME 9!!!! WE'RE FINALLY HERE!!! Elijah in for a great ride with this Volume!!!

Enchanted_Echo

Oh yeah...... Neo's Break Up Arc: Stage 3: Anger (part 1)

Stars CM

I'm with you. It's common to hear complaints about the constant tonal shifts this Volume but it's pretty clearly by design. I also think it works really well as a metaphor for depression and trauma. No matter how badly you're going through it, life keeps going on around you even for the people close to you, and it all seems silly by comparison.

Stars CM

There is prophetic sorcery at work here that can only be the darkest of magics.

Andrew Hart

I think Jamie battle was a member of CRWBY who got to voice that incidental role. There’s a history of other members of CRWBY voicing small bit parts. One that comes to mind is Stan Lewis, (editor) voicing the guy that says “we were on patrol and saw the smoke” in the volume 4 finale.

Andrew Hart

So excited for Elijah’s reactions this volume. Some of those predictions though, ooh boy. And I too love how this volume is giving us the comedy, such a tonic after last volume… lots more happy fun times ahead right… right? 🍁 ☕️ 😳

Vex Valor

The thumbnail has bi colored flowers on Blake's side and Yang's looks like the lesbian flag. Just saying. lol I have been so excited to get to this volume because it is such a trip and so strange. I love the comedy and well deserved after the last two volumes they put us through.

Evil Queen

I still say we need an intervention for her Neo denial and bargaining…. 🤣

Jittercritter

As we see in volume 4 with Tai and Yang, deflecting trauma with positivity and humor is something that their family just DOES, all three of them. Remember that Yang is only 2 years older than Ruby before Ruby could even talk, Tai “shut down,” and Qrow became an alcoholic, which means Yang raised Ruby alone with NO guide on how to build proper coping mechanisms or how to manage stress and grief. Consequently, no one taught Ruby how to ask for help when she needs it. No one ever taught them how to be unhappy, the only two examples they had were Tai and Qrow who are both very loving and good people, but also both people with extremely destructive grieving habits.

Jyoster

This is it, the last volume for you to catch up on before being on the same boat as us. And Volume 9 is considered one of the best volumes, but also one of the most controversial ones, at least that's how I see it. I have a friend who is torn on the volume, but I'll explain later on why. And yeah, this is the volume I've been waiting for you and Mosco to react to, hope you have a great time. But also, prepare plenty of tissue boxes, you got your first [and probably last] warning.

Arashi

What do you mean what is Ninja's of Love about? It's obviously about friendly knights! D'uh! :D Still this is a bit of a feels focused volume, and ah.... you have Neo a the focused 'villain' this volume! Just like Cinder in Volume 3! Isn't that great?

WolfieOo

Honestly, poor Ruby is going through it. First she can't process Pyrra's death as Yang grows depressed (so she probably didn't have the chance to be sad herself, has to be the one with hope and 'cheer'). Then she goes with team JPNR who she'd NEVER bring up their missing member with. Then she gets her team back and tries to just be 'back to normal', despite several close calls and the unprocessed trauma. Then she learns more depressing news (lost fable) and while the team is spiraling, she has to step up once again and be the 'leader'. Despite also wanting to just sit and think. Then they get to atlas. Things go well but she never stops to process Pyrra's death and just brushes past Penny's since Penny is back. Then it slowly then quickly goes to heck in a hand basket. And while things start to fall wildly out of control, she has to still be that leader, the one with the plan. But the plan doesn't fully work. And instead of being able to see the good (which she can't, since they weren't able to know anything of the results of the plan and fight), she has to figure out a 'new world'. Poor girl is going to break, and I'm surprised she didn't long before this point. But the show is good at emotional story and growth, as well as overall plot and whatnot. Fun but sad to watch.

ElizabethTheMermaid

Elijah is not going to survive this Volume! On a serious note, Elijah should definitely look into the trigger warnings for this volume because it gets pretty dark

Blake as soon as she saw Yang: "I thought I lost her forever and I am not wasting any more time." Go get your girl, Blake.

I did the same thing and was thrilled to see when she would react to E6... Then she got sick

Loving this! There are definitely a lot of references pulled specifically from Alice Through the Looking Glass, versus just the prequel story Wonderland alone. I won't list them all out here, but just an fyi if you have only seen/read Wonderland and find yourself baffled by sudden unfamiliar references among the familiar!

Enchanted_Echo

We might be ok this time around as with episode 2, they still have the intros for the video so it should be ok but yeah still definitely should give a bit of heads up.

RenaissanceM

Such is life. I became a patron of this channel because of RWBY. Envisioning her reaction to what’s coming just makes me smile so much it’s overwhelming. ☺️❤️

Vegvisir92

Yang literally just blasted one of the royal guardsmen....i doubt they have time for Ruby to process anything in that location if im honest......

Alexis Cardillo

Yeah Ruby is really to be going through it this volume. Like you already said, the others have already gone through their main arches, processed what happened to them and grow from it, but Ruby has always had to be the strong, confident one, the one the others lean and count on, she never really had to chance to really process what happened at the Fall of Beacon and the very recent events of the Fall of Atlas just piled on she still isn’t given the chance to process anything, they’re just focusing on getting out as quickly as possible, which you’ll see what happens. Yeah CWBY said they based Ever After very much on Wonderland, you’ll see their own spin on it. Bit morbid but when I saw the green figure for the first time, I honestly thought it was going to be Penny’s body, since she wasn’t taken out of the crossroads before it collapse. Hey I had a year to theorize what was going to happen between volumes, dark theories came about.

Its Hazard

I believe Volume 9 is on crunchy roll, they have subtitles and trigger warnings for this season

man-of-bvz1n3ss

MY CRACK THEORY IS THAT NINJAS OF LOVE IS KALI'S ACCOUNT OF HOW SHE AND GHIRA GOT TOGETHER, WRITTEN UNDER A PSEUDONYM. (Can you hear me now?)

EmberPanther

A couple big reasons that Yang isn’t pulling Ruby aside to talk to her is that she tried when Ruby woke up but Ruby refused to even acknowledge her question of “Are you ok?”, and they haven’t been in any form of secure environment where they can afford to let their guards down enough to talk. I can also attest (as someone who has very much had severe depression and tried to just keep on keeping on) that Ruby more than likely doesn’t want to talk about it and bother her team, especially since she is in the unfortunate situation of being both the youngest member who needs a minute to process everything and the leader who thinks they have to figure out everything on their own and if they aren’t 100% all the time they are letting their team down. Also, canonically Ninjas of Love is exactly what you think it is, and Blake was probably right to put that away when little 15 year old Ruby was in the same room. 😂 For the sake of fun, it might be about a duo of thieves and assassins who have a beautiful enemies-to-lovers arc.

EmberPanther

This is one of my absolute favorite Volumes in the entire show! So much of the show we see Ruby struggling emotionally (such as when she is shown having nightmares constantly on the road to Haven), but they have been so focused on trying to stop Salem that literally everything else was pushed aside. Now they are in a world where they seem to need to slow down and understand in order to progress, so hopefully a lot of the things that were getting delayed are addressed. Also, just in case they somehow aren’t there, definitely be aware of some serious trigger warnings for episode 9.

Meghan Ross

This was hands-down one of my favorite arcs. You are gonna need a lot of tissues and a lot of things to throw for this season! But I will tell you this season is known as therapy! Both for the good and for the bad you’ll know what it means later on.

Vic Walker

FINALLY, I was waiting for your reaction to this volume. With how much you catch about the visuals, music, hidden messages and foreshadowing, I bet you will have A LOT of room to theorize this volume. So far, what you said may age well like a wine or like milk, you will see. About who was calling Ruby at the beginning, we have a confirmation from CRWBY, but idk if you want to know already or not, so keep reading to know, or stop here. - - - - - It's Penny..... Yeah... Fucking heartbreaking.

Vic Walker

Another tip The opening changes after some time If you wish to know exactly when . . . . . . . Episode 6 it's different

Mare

Once the Viz aqcuisition happened, RWBY was pulled from Crunchyroll. And one of the past issues on Crunchyroll that people complained about was the fact that Crunchyroll did not provide subtitles for English language series. It was a pain at the time since Crunchyroll didn’t consider hearing-impaired viewers.

GeminiRosche13

They’re voiced by Brendan Blaber, aka the YouTuber JelloApocalypse. He’s previously made a ‘comedic’ critique video about RWBY that had a lot of misinformation and personal biases and cynicisms peppered in, as well as spoiled Penny returning in volume 7 despite being made before that volume had come out. How, you ask? Because he’d previously tried out for a role in the show during the production of volume 7, and the script he was given revealed Penny was in it. So, seemingly out of spite for being snubbed at that time, he threw that spoiler into the background art for a shot for his own vid. He’s come under fire for a lot of his personal takes in the anime industry recently, especially his incendiary views on One Piece or his opinion on the show Lovely Complex, which he was involved in the dubbing of.

2026-09-07 19:00 I've always been of the mindset that when Neo was transforming into all those people that Ruby loves she was saying look at how many people you have in your life and you took away the one person that I loved

Yeah, Weiss is very smart, but she's also aggravated and still trying to hold onto her sense of logic. I.e., you throw a rock forward, it does NOT come back to hit you. And the Ever After punished her for it. XD

A weapon she's unfamiliar with is better than no weapon at all. But Ruby was trained by Qrow to fight with a scythe. So she might not fight well with a sword
