Amazing video! About why they don't feel safe to come out, it's because (not only the gay/bi part) of the rivalry. It could affect both of their carreirs, people questioning if one let the other win, etc. It's very stupid, but their fear makes a lot of sense. Also, Ilya's mom name is Irina, and I really love this name. The cottage is 10 minutes from the parents' house, it was mentioned in the documentary that Ilya watched. I only know because I watched an unhealthy ammount of reactions of the show hahahaha

that “she would have loved you…like i love you” gets me every single time. something about the way he looks at him and how the line is delivered hits right in the chest. yes scott came out but he’s dating a random smoothie barista that has no connection to hockey. shane and ilya have been set up as rivals for the last 10 years and hockey rivalries are intense. they have both played into that narrative for a decade and if they came out to the world about their relationship, they risk everything. shane’s mom even asked him if he ever let ilya win and she knows him, imagine that on a much grander scale from fans and press and their respective teams. every one of their games against each other would be called into question. they could lose their sponsorships and even their careers that they have worked so hard for. not to mention the russia of it all, if ilya comes out and loses his work visa, he can be deported back to russia as an out queer man and that’s dangerous. they have much more at stake than scott did so that’s why they want to wait until they retire.

Showcasing a beautiful and tender love story. I absolutely adore how much you love ilya as a character because truly.. he really is such a precious man. Very very precious. Connor would be so happy to hear how much you care about his line delivery. He comes from a background of clowning, which is it's own form of comedy. You'd be surprised to see how different they are in person from their characters. They're complete opposites and are probably more like each other's characters. 😂 Both are very down to earth and i've completely fallen for them.. so hard not to. I'm interested if you plan on reading the book? Or do you wanna wait until season 2 comes out in 2027? It's planned for a spring release next year! I caved in and read the books and i will say, it's gonna be a wild ride.

One thing I don’t think was really mentioned but Ilya says I love you twice in Russian before he says it in English you can kinda here him whispering it but it doesn’t show up in the translation (I had to google it) it’s like he had to work up the nerve to say it in English to him. The whole scene is adorable and that ads so much to it

I’m not sure why people seem to miss the fundamental difference between Scott and Shane/Ilya’s situations. Scott Hunter’s career isn’t over but he’s not the players they are as far as skill and it’s likely on the downswing. He’s also dating a smoothie maker/art student, not another player. The whole “Scott did it” thing is completely reductive when it comes to Shane and Ilya’s situation.
