It is entirely fitting that the immortal or long lived sun Goddess have a pheonix as a companion. Both symbolically and practically after all you don't want to have to morn your pet evey few years that are relatively nothing to Celestia.

In all seriousness though, I do love the design for the phoenix in this show, but I'm not a huge fan of this episode. I feel the show is still finding its feet in season 1 and starts to pick up and become stronger in season 2 onward. Glad you enjoyed the episode though. Pets really can be smartasses that mess with you. Watching my sister's dogs right now, one's an angel and the other likes to test people in many annoying ways, lol.

I loved this episode as a kid, Philimena’s coughing/wheezing, physical humor made me laugh so hard. Also Twilight catastrophizes a lott, especially when it comes to Celestia. She gets into her own head too much about things. That and perfectionism.

I loved hearing your thoughts about Celestia during the get-together scene at Sugar Cube Corner, whether it was her smiling over Pinkie's antics, or her teacup prank with the Cakes. It really fleshes out a fun-loving side to her character, and yeah, even if she's a princess, she's still a pony much like everyone else with her own personality and everything, just like you said. It actually reminded me of when I got to meet her voice actress, Nicole Oliver, and connect with her on some levels while at conventions. Great stuff.

And thus was Trollestia born! As for who did Philomena's voice, Tabitha St. Germain, Rarity's VA as well as a TON of others. If there is an incidental voice roll it is a better then even chance that if it's female, it's Tabitha, while if it's male it's Peter New (Big Mac's VA).

to be fair to Fluttershy, she specializes in woodland creatures, not mythical ones like phoenixes and dragons. Twilight just idolizes Celestia and her anxiety overrules her reason at times.

I think weird that Twilight didn't know that Princess Celestia had a phoenix as a pet considering how close they are. The writing definitely had a few flaws here and there early on. This is still a very lovable show though.
