I just want to mention that this arc in the manga was VERY disliked, and I can understand why in a sense, but I think the anime did a fantastic job in elavating it. I don’t think this is a lot of people’s favourite arc, but I definitely appreciated it and there were a lot of great moments in it. Btw, I don’t know what your approach is to the movie, but this is what people meant with the halfway point in the sense of possible spoilers. I don’t really care when you watch it per se, but the ‘major’ spoiler is out of the way now.

Yeah, like, when I first read the match and it happened, I was surprised, but like you said, there was foreshadowing since the sports festival, and the surprise quickly turned into "makes sense", after all, All for One has multiple quirks at his disposal, so how else would Deku match that? It has been framed as this inherited struggle between All for One and One for All, so no matter if Deku has to face off with Shigaraki or AfO, he'll have to be able to counter the power of multiple quirks in the end. And it's not like he can just use them right away, he'll have to learn all of them from scratch, so in the end, this development just has me excited! Also, I'm so glad Deku's Past Avatars aren't like Roku. I think that's why he adjusted so quickly, because Black Whip guy was encouraging and trustworthy.

There's still a major spoiler on heroes rising tho. Don't want to explain to much. But there's a character that doesn't show up until the last arc of this season.

Such an amazing movie. The ending climax is still to this day the best animated sequence in MHA history. The budget must’ve been unreal.

I think I was thrown off too when I first read the manga. I was almost like Midoriya in that I felt like we were really mastering OFA only to have to start from scratch with a bunch of new abilities. But I quickly got over it because as you said it's really about their character journeys and since I have liked Horikoshi's mind about that so far, I just trusted I'd like this new direction. :)
