In case you don’t know Goodwin, MHA has two new OVA’s on streaming now. They were released in Japan over the summer. Miraculously they are dubbed right out of the gate. They aren’t serious in anyway, but serve as good humorous fun. Since the upcoming season, and the season after for that matter, are going to have practically ZERO humor.

“It's not as if whoever has feelings first loses, or anything!” Well, pack it up boys, we did it. Love is War is no more. Reject entire premise of anime, embrace ULTRA ROMANTIC.

This is probably my favorite episode of the season. I love the juxtaposition of the more theatrical scenes during the characters’ usual scheming (like Kaguya’s mind theater and Ishigami’s Shawshank Redemption reference), with the use of monochromatic manga panel recreations when everything else is stripped away all that is left is their purest feelings. Such an emotional episode that is elevated by the beauty of the visuals.

“...offered his heart to the princess?” *Erwin Smith Intensifies* Hayasaka be like… “Give up on your school life and die. Lead your heart straight into hell. And I guarantee you: you'll win Shirogane's own” "No matter how blessed your friendship has been, it's all the same if you never confess. Every relationship will end one day. Does that mean it was meaningless? Would you say that to everyone who has ever been rejected? Their feelings... were they meaningless? NO! It's our feelings that give meaning to our actions! The brave rejected. The anguished rejected. The ones who prospered are the ones willing to confess. We confess to find meaning in our feelings, hoping they will be returned! Because that is the sole method in which we survive the cruelty of love. Love is frightening! Love is rewarding! Love is war!"

Chris

The static manga panel scenes felt like an homage to Kare Kano (His and Her Circumstances). It’s a romantic comedy anime directed by Hideaki Anno three years after his work on Evangelion (so it's kind of fitting that you mentioned Evangelion). It has one of my favorite relationships in anime, but the quality of the show declines towards the end since Anno left the production due to creative differences with the manga creator.

Ishigami's Shawshank moment had me dying. For me it was the best pop culture reference the series has made so far.

Oh no.. I knew it was only a matter of time. Goodwin ATE sweaterlord D:

Damn I had no idea about any of this. Anno is total genius and his work on Evangelion, especially when it comes to shot composition and storyboarding, is something to marvel at. I will have to watch Kare Kano now at some point, I had no idea he directed it.

The most notable thing about this reaction isn't even your commentary for once. It's the adorable ginger cat in the background.

Coming soon to Goodwin's merch line: Dragon Style! Mad Boy! BLUE ASS!

Just saw that clip for the first time and yeah its hilarious. One of the few moments in the show the dub narrators take on the character actually fits with the humor better, it almost never happens.

Long comp today y'all, sorry abt that “‘Nothing special’ and ‘takoyaki stall’ is an oxymoron,” “This is giving me merch ideas. I, too, would like to be a ‘Mad Boy’,” “You just keep going, and you reach a critical distance where you look better,” “Man, Miyuki just gets me. Two sodas, THAT’S function,” “What are the things that I think I need that are getting in the way of the things I actually want,” “Just trust in Daddy Shirogane,” “I didn’t know because I need you to provide this exposition,” “Is there a ghibli movie for this as well?” (This is only in here bc it’s the first time I’ve heard ghibli pronounced that way. Often I hear arguments on hard g or soft g, but never a y sound lol) “What about boiling a heart into turnip juice to save a woman’s life doesn’t make sense to you?” “Ripping out your heart and turning it into juice and drinking it is reminiscent of my last relationship,” (KJDLFSJEDFSKLJD) “I have all the anecdotal evidence that I need,” (sadly applicable quote) “I hope this doesn’t end with her drinking Miyuki’s heart juice,” “There’s a monster looming in the distance. And that monster’s name is Stanford,” “You kinda are what you practice. And if you practice continuing to lie to yourself and shy away from things you actually want, areas of life that are calling you that are, in essence, mini hero’s adventures-hero’s journeys, you build that up. You get used to ignoring it. And that is kind of ignoring the call of life. It’s a denial of spirit and character,” “It was good because I proved myself to myself,”

This guy is a good reactor. He should get a fruit companion as his background

After this episode originally aired back in May I finally decided that I had to read the manga and couldn't put it down. I love this series so much! Best rom-com ever imo. This is only the second series that I have ever caved to read the manga for alongside AOT.

Yes, the manga is fantastic and its my all time fav manga. But, I would say this is one of the very very rare cases where the anime adaptation actually improves the story and comedy. So for me the anime is actually the best version of the story but obviously they are only 130ish chapters in at the end of S3 when the current manga is at chapter 270ish, so its well worth reading all that amazing character development.

Totally agree, the anime adapts the manga perfectly and adds so much with the voice acting, music and amazing animation. Im just impatient as hell and couldn't even wait for season 3 to end before I dove into it, so no way was I waiting for season 4. However there are also some really amazing chapters that never got adapted, so I'm so glad that I decided to read it.

I love the theme of reaching for the moon throughout this series. From the story about the princess on the moon when Kaguya and Shirogane were stargazing to his father's story behind his watch. I really love the imagery behind Miyuki reaching out to close the heaven and earth distance between him and Kaguya. Super Romantic!
