***EDIT: RESULTS***

Another polling season has come and gone with ZERO controversy!

The show lineup has now been established for quite some time, with the following shows starting in this order:

- Vinland Saga
- Violet Evergarden
- Haikyuu!!
- March Comes in Like a Lion

To Hunter x Hunter fans: I know this hurts. It's absurd that Hunter x Hunter has now come in second in 3 or 4 polls. I promise that this is the last time. I can't say exactly when I will watch it because there are a lot of channel staples coming back soon like MHA, but I will watch it as soon as I can and it will never be beaten in a poll in this channel again.

Polls always contain a little bit of pain because ideally there would be a solution that everyone felt satisfied with. I always try to get as close to that as I can, but the reality is that it's impossible. So thank you to everyone who has been a good sport about the whole thing :)

Thank you to everyone for voting and making this feel like a big event!
Thanks to everyone for all the great show ideas and the insight and advice!

Super pumped for the new shows!

And if you're reading this, now that the controversy has completely ended, I'd like to ask a question that I'm sure everyone will agree on with 0 controversy: sub or dub for these shows? Or maybe a more clear way of asking this: Out of the 4 shows are there any of them where the dub is the clear winner?

😂

--------------------

Welcome back to pollgate 3.0! 😂

These somehow always end up being super intense. Time to fight controversy with potentially more controversy.

TLDR !!! PLEASE READ !!!

  • Vinland Saga is locked in as the next show to watch BUT!!!

  • another show slot will open in a few weeks (when Violet Evergarden ends)

  • VOTE BELOW on which SECOND show to start in a few weeks, Hunter x Hunter or Haikyuu!!.

Apologies in advance for a super convoluted post.

After looking at the current poll, a few things seem clear:

  • There's some manipulation happening

  • There are 3 shows that are clearly in high demand

  • I can't determine the exact extent of the manipulation (some of it is also people legitimately signing up or switching votes last minute)

  • I don't want to let manipulation be a factor in eliminating Vinland Saga.

Here are the three shows currently tied or very close along with the two I have chosen to watch, based on episode length:

  • Violet Evergarden: 13 eps

  • Vinland Saga: 24 eps

  • March Comes in Like a Lion: 44 eps

  • Haikyuu!!: 85 eps

  • Hunter x Hunter: 148 eps

From there, I think there are two "best" courses of action to choose between.

In both choices, the next shows will be Vinland Saga (based on the poll) and Violet Evergarden (based on what I've committed to). But Violet Evergarden is short, at only 13 episodes, which means another slot becomes available in just a few weeks. At that time, I can start EITHER Hunter x Hunter or Haikyuu!!. A few weeks later, Vinland Saga will also end, at which time I can start March Comes in Like a Lion. And so out of these 4 shows only one of them will be put off until later.

In short, here are the options for vote:

  • First watch Vinland Saga -> then watch Hunter x Hunter

  • First watch Vinland Saga -> then watch Haikyuu

In a nutshell, Vinland Saga is locked in and the choice is about which show to start in a few weeks, Hunter x Hunter or Haikyuu!!.

Hopefully this poll will clear it up and it doesn't end up being this close again lol.

The poll will be up for 48 hours (Saturday 8:30 pm US EST).

This is my best attempt at honoring both my commitments and the poll.

And then the updated schedule:

Thursday (today): no video

Friday: Kaguya Sama

Saturday: JJK Q&A

Monday: Kaguya Sama

Tuesday: Vinland Saga begins

Two weeks later: Kaguya ends and Violet Evergarden begins

Four weeks later: Violet Evergarden ends and either Haikyuu or HxH begins.

I think that's a good place to start for now! And from there let's see what happens. There's also the huge October lineup to consider.

Please vote below on what to watch when Violet Evergarden is completed in a few weeks

Comments

Lars Leemans

Dang i'm a fan of neither of these

oerwhat

HxH gang rise! ✊🤚✌️

MikeWest

He's officially trying to instigate a riot

BRus019

HxH family we have waited this long trust the process 🤞🏽

Megan

I’m so happy we’re getting Vinland and Violet Evergarden!!

Chris Sharpe

Whatever gets chosen, there will likely be another chance before either show ends. So don’t let the length be a massive detraction (both are still big commitments).

Chris Sharpe

I did not expect an outcome this good. Thanks Goodwin!

Chris Sharpe

No one: Me: “JJK Q&A” rhymes.

Oak

HxH has been getting second place for so long. Let this be the hour, where it finally breaks the streak! Let's do this!

Kayla Grabow

Were getting both at some point but Haikyuu is shorter.

KrimzonHawka

Wait wait wait Goodwin, there's an extra 14th episode that got turned into an OVA episode which takes place between episode 4 and 5 of the main series of Violet Evergarden, so please don't skip that, preferably in the correct chronological order? 😢

Tommy Nguyen

HxH is one of the greatest animes, ugh. I’ve never watched Haikyuu so it’d be fun to watch alongside.

Aidan Pullen

My only problem with HxH is it REALLY drags in the back half and is overall just so much longer. Haikyuu is super solid but also much shorter

syd

Haikyuu gotta win. I love H x H but I just know he’d fall in love with HQ😭

Musicisum

omg these polls are so stressful 😂

Elise

This is a very hard choice for me because I love both of these shows dearly but I'm gonna go with Haikyu mainly cause it's one of my all time favs and cause it's shorter as well!

Chris Sharpe

The fate of the losing show: 24 episodes of Vinland Saga + 44 episodes of March Comes Like a Lion = 68 videos. Either there will be another poll, where the other show gets chosen after that, or Goodwin picks one. If HxH loses here, it will only get picked in the former, while Haikyuu will likely get picked in both if it loses here. Edit: No Kaguya episodes, Vinland Saga starts right away.

Elise
>>88996158

Bro, I'm praying on Haikyuu🤞 I love that show with my whole heart

Megan
>>88996060

Violet Evergarden watch order so Goodwin knows 1. Violet Evergarden (the show) episode 1-4 2. Violet Evergarden Special OVA (34 minutes) 3. Violet Evergarden (the show) episodes 5-13 4. Violet Evergarden Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll (1hr 30min) 5. Violet Evergarden the Movie (2hrs and 20min) All of these are on Netflix right now.

Skyler Anderson

Welcome to another episode of Haikyuu gonna get beat out just barely. This is gonna be sad. Please HxH fans let us have this 😭😭

Chris Sharpe
>>88996028

Very true, but both are big commitments, and Haikyuu will be chosen after March Comes Like a Lion, whether Goodwin picks or there is a poll if it loses here, while with HxH, it is only the former, and it may get postponed further. Still, while I’m voting HxH, I would like to start watching Haikyuu to since this gives me an excuse. This method is how I got into anime in the first place when watching this channel. Edit: I guess the wait for the losing show is a bit longer, as there will be Autumn shows and new seasons of previous ones.

agoodwintv
>>88996383

Yup, that is highly possible. The only potential issue is that there are a lot of shows coming back in the fall that I plan to watch as well.

Chris Sharpe
>>88996132

Yeah, I totally get that, but the back half is also overall better, so I guess you win some and you lose some.

benj

Vote Haikyuu!! or I will become your sleep paralysis demon

Tispy Wombat

The volleyball gods are calling to me!!!

Chris Sharpe

Wow, this comments section is far more civil than the last one 🤞🤞🤞

Emman Reed

either one is good. Both very good picks :)

Cornhorn

I was unaware that changing votes wasn't allowed so some of that might have been me. I switched when I saw haikyu and Vinland we're tied even though I initially voted for both as I love both shows I took my haikyu vote off to boost Vinland saga. Sorry y'all I was unaware I couldn't do that and I shall not do it again.

agoodwintv
>>88996895

That's perfectly fine. The manipulation I'm talking about is people were paying for new accounts to vote

NotJustEngineering

Gonna be honest; I haven’t watched Haikyuu. But I definitely need excuse to pick up something new, so let’s pick up that volleyball and do sports baybee.

Chris Sharpe
>>88997051

I heard so much amazing stuff about it. Part of the reason I love HxH so much is because I watch a youtuber that makes lots of video essays about tv shows, who made many for HxH (which is his favorite show). Haikyuu is his second favorite, so I am stoked.

Donnie Betlem

I've heard great things about Vinland Saga all 'round, but especially here. I can't wait to watch this show and the reactions before my all time favourite, March, rolls around!

Chris Sharpe

HxH and HQ fans: tearing each other’s throats out. VS, March, and VE fans: Happy Joker dance

Slim Cognito

Violet Evergarden also has an OVA and two movies I hope they’ll be a part of it as well

Chris Sharpe

Ha, the f-ers in the last poll just wasted their money.

Amit

Lets go. Vinland Saga is amazing

benj

Poll season on this channel really is incredibly entertaining, I have to admit. Here is some important information based on your post Goodwin that I think you might want a reminder of incase you forgot some stuff: 1. Violet Evergarden is not just 12 episodes, there is a 13th OVA episode and there are two movies. The first movie acts as basically a super long OVA that is pretty much just a really long and really high budget episode of Violet Evergaden. The Second movie on the other hand is ESSENTIAL viewing once you've completed the main series as its the canon ending to the main storyline and its a amazing film just like the show. 2. It will definitely take some serious time to complete Vinland, Haikyuu/HxH (whichever one wins), and March Comes in like A Lion. I would predict that you would still be getting through all of these commitments when the Fall season of anime starts, which could be a major issue if you want to continue all the shows you have currently watched on the channel. The new shows coming this fall that you have already watched and would potentially continue watching on a weekly episode basis this Fall are: Mob Psycho 100 Season 3, MHA Season 6, To Your Eternity Season 2, and Spy x Family Season 1 Part 2.

Darby

HxH is a serious commitment. It'll be the longest show you'll have watched on the channel. It's one of my favorite shows ever though and you won't be disappointed regardless of when you end up watching it :)

Brimmy
>>88997358

two?! OHHHHH I've seen Violet Evergarden Side Story: Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll and the Special but not the OVA's(ONA on MAL) or "The movie"

benj
>>88997353

Actually so true. I haven't seen VS or March but I want to watch both so badly and VE is just amazing so. I am not a huge Haikyuu fan but it is a really fun show that Goodwin will probably make me enjoy more through his insights and analysis.

Chris Sharpe
>>88998044

We will be eating good this fall, I didn’t know about MP 100 or TYE, very happy! Especially since I read the TYE manga.

Ryan

If the poll is close (and I imagine it will be), I have a genuinely serious idea for those who have seen your Demon Slayer reaction videos: coin flipping, and then ignoring the results of coin flipping and going with what you want to watch. I honestly think people will be okay with it. In fact, if you just decided by fiat, "I want to watch Hunter x Hunter because I want to know what the damn dodgeball memes are about," or "I'm going to watch Haikyuu because I like Hayashi Yuuki's music," the vast majority of us would watch happily. A minority will grumble regardless, but we're here for the reactor, not the series.

Seth

Out of all the animes y’all choosing a volleyball anime? Didn’t expect that 💀 I think fireforce would be cool if has a mysterious story like fmab and aot

agoodwintv
>>88998805

I was just thinking something similar. Given the fact that there are extra accounts being made, in the event that there's no obvious winner, I will probably just choose at a later date when it's time.

Tope

Wait, I missed it. What happened in the previous poll? Last I saw Vinland was leading significantly followed by HxH.

agoodwintv
>>88999919

There was a big swing at the end that had Vinland, HxH, and Haikyuu basically dead even.

Robert Traeger

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. If you are going to watch the English version of Vinland, which I recommend, do not use the non-Funimation dub it is a bunch of over exaggerated comical Monte python style British accents and in my opinion it ruins the whole experience

Athena

I'm crossing my fingers for Haikyuu, however, I've been seeing so much about Vinland Saga so I assume I'm gonna have to start that and finally commit to watching HxH😳

Ishan

From those 2, Haikyuu is the better option, imo. More interesting interpersonal relationship dynamics to analyze. HxH is well received but everyone and their mother is reacting to it. Edit: Also, do you plan to do the VE OVA's and movies?

Nigatsu

Well. I haven't watched any of the five shows. But I have heard good things about almost all of them (I don't remember hearing anything about "March Comes in Like a Lion"). So I was planning on watching them sooner or later anyway. So either one wins. I guess I'll have an excuse to watch them finally

Jake White

I think this is a fantastic compromise and solution on your part. Obviously you’re not going to be able to please everyone but I feel like this is a pretty damn decent way of appeasing as many as possible. Side note: if the poll is close again this time, go with absolute chaos. Only react to YouTube summaries of the series and don’t even watch them lmao

Bowsber
>>89000855

March comes in like a lion is probably my favourite show of the 5, can't recommend it enough. As a disclaimer it revolves around shogi, but you don't really need knowledge of it to enjoy it. it's one of those shows where i don't really want to go into detail as to why it's so great cause it's something you just gotta experience

finomenal

I've voted for both to try and instigate poll gate 3.5 🫰

Nigatsu

Something else I would like to add. Vinland Saga will be finishing around the first week of October (including a couple of days off and Q&A). Violet Evergarden will be finishing around the last week of September (including movies, OVAs, Q&A, and days off). But this October is a magic month for anime. We have: Mob Psycho III My Hero Academia S6 To Your Eternity S2 Spy x Family cour 2 And possibly Chainsaw Man. That they will release a second trailer in like 8 hours. So they will most likely reveal the release date at that time If you would like to react to everything you would be reacting to 6 or 7 shows at the same time and these are the options I could come up with: 1.- Do one episode a day every week (including the regular show) until some of the shorter animes end (Spy x Family and Mob Psycho) and increase the regular show to more EP every week. So a total of 6 or 7 videos per week. 2.- Do not start a new anime after VE and just do one regular show and the new season's animes. so 3 videos per regular show + 4 or 5 new season animes. So a total of 7 or 8 videos per week. 3.- Go plus ultra and upload the 3 videos per regular show (6 in total) + one additional video per season anime (4 or 5 in total). So a total of 10 or 11 videos per week. 4.- Decided to don't react to some season animes and react to them whenever there's time. But there could be more anime coming in winter and may make things difficult later on

Norrin Radd

PLEASE tell me you're watching Violet Evergarden in English.

Fizzle

This is the hardest choice I've ever faced.

BRus019
>>89003460

I really hope he’s not. The sub is so much better (Violet has the same VA as Mikasa)

Ryan
>>89003585

I mean, the take-home message is that all 5 series will *eventually* get their time before melon-lord.

Chris Sharpe
>>89000478

It’s an anime essential. The older style might seem a little jarring to people newer to anime, but the amazing storytelling shines through.

m1gz

I would recommend watching Vinland saga in sub the voice acting is top notch and I’m so happy haikyuu seems to be beating out hxh it’s almost half the length and the characters are much richer (IMO)

m1gz
>>89000457

He really needs to watch the sub the voice actors do an amazing job

KP

HxH used to be my favorite anime but then Haikyuu came along and goddamn that show just hits different. Still a tough choice though.

Chris Sharpe

The characters in HxH are, in my opinion, has the best characterization I have seen. Maybe not as much quality, but so much amazing quantity and breadth to the amount. I view characterization on sort of scale, on one end, you have shows like Attack on Titan, who’s characterization narratively rich, and on the other end with shows like Fruits Basket, who’s characterization is more profoundly psychological. HxH is more like the former, although have some aspects of the latter, with new important characters adding extra color and intrigue to the particular settings with subtle thematic significance.

Anna Lena Ciplajevs

In regards to the fall season: since many of those anime will drop one episode a week it might be easier to just drop one episode per week for each of those and the shows that are starting here. (Eventhough that would mean you’d have to spend soooo much time watching hxh, and also nOooooOo)

Jenny bete

what the hell did people dooo lmaoo, I haven't checked the poll since the beginning of the week bc i thought the winner was pretty much clear but damn... I mean, good for both hxh and haikyuu fans ig lol. one thing i do not get tho, is that because of the people making a dozen new patreon accounts to vote for either hxh and hayikuu, doesn't that make this poll faulty, too? especially because the supsicious rise in voters was higher for haikyuu than hxh i suppose? idk, i guess this option is as fair as it can get

Neygem

There is no fucking way that Hunter x Hunter is worse than some fucking volleyball, right? This has to be a joke.

Sunny
>>89006078

This was such a hard poll for me because i love them both but you're right, HxH explores deeper themes than Haikyuu and has great, complex characters too, but nothing beats Haikyuu's cast of characters tbh. Every one of them is given a spotlight to shine in

Sunny

Reading through the comments of the last poll was so frustrating, but reading through the comments on this poll is hilarious. They're both top tier shows and these comments are great, glad you're going to be reacting to at least one of these very soon

Geneva The Weeba

This is such an absolute bonkers era for the channel, and I feel like I'm both SUPER invested and yet not at all. My thoughts, in order of my having watched these I love Haikyuu dearly, one of my first anime, in my top 3, and it's made me cry SO much. It's my phone case and my blanket, and the nostalgia for my days of volleyball before injury along with me cheering on my 6ft 5 brother as he plays makes me love it to death. Rewatched and reread multiple times, 10/10 The thing is, it's NOT FINISHED BEING ANIMATED WHICH MAKES ME SO SAD. I'm also not big on reactions to shows that aren't finished, but that's just me. (also this might get some people to hate me, but the dub is gold) HxH was a ton of fun to watch and has ALSO gotten me to cry (Komugi my beloved) with awesome characters and badass moments, and cool fights coupled with some real introspection. Yet, again, THE ENDING IS NOT AVAILABLE. 9/10 3-gatsu no lion. This is the only show to ever contend with Fruits Basket for my favorite anime. I watched 3 episodes years ago and I had to stop because the emotions depicted were genuinely so vivid and striking to me at the time that I legitimately could not handle it. Upon picking it back up again (this was after Goodwin watched FB) all I could think was that it would be the PERFECT show for Goodwin. Even at that point, I could only stand about 2 episodes a day, it is that good. It has hauntingly human, and frighteningly humanizing writing, a beautiful depiction of depression and mankind's yearning. Not to mention the stellar characters that *aren't* the mc. AND THE FEMALE CHARACTERS???? Amazing. legimately incredible. Manga is ongoing, but the show's ending is gorgeous. 11/10. hurts that I have to wait, but it's so worth it I promise Violet Evergarden. I legit only watched this one because Goodwin was going to react to it and it's on this scratch-off top 100 anime poster I have. Finished everything in just a little over a day. Welcome surprise! Good exploration of people and purpose and death. Many tears. Satisfying ending. 9/10 Vinland Saga. I finished the anime and have now come to the Patreon to write this comment. Interesting characters, cool ideals, BADASS FIGHT SCENES OH MY LORDIE. Side characters> main character. A lot of politics and morals for Goodwin to dissect. 8/10. (and I will read and catch up with the manga by Tuesday, so my opinion may change) Just the one season with next season coming out in 2023. (this was way longer than I meant it to be I'm sorry)

Edgar
>>89012479

That's interesting, cause I would give vinland a 9. Hxh and Haikyuu an 8 and violet a 7

Madison Brown

Even though I love both shows, I really think you’ll appreciate Haikyuu more. There’s a lot of betterment of self going on in that show, which I think you’ll like a lot. Lots of character growth. It’s just really good!!

Finn

im fine w HQ winning but if hxh not gettin the next one i might lose it

m1gz
>>89014007

I really cant wait for him to meet all these characters

NotJustEngineering

Also, just to throw my hat into the ring on this issue; I think it’s best if you watch Vinland Subbed rather than Dubbed. The Sub is AMAZING, and chalk full of amazing Voice Acting, and Familiar VA’s. Also there are two different English Dubs from what I understand, one of which is disliked ALOT more than the other. And it could just complicate things, so it’d just be easier and better to watch it subbed In My Opinion.

Chris Sharpe

Just in case HxH wins, I would suggest the sub over dub. On a basic level, they are about equal, but a lot of important emotional gut punches hit harder in the sub.

Nox

I'm fine with both shows but I voted for Haikyuu simply bc of the sheer length of HxH. I'd rather we watch the shorter show first. But both shows are spectacular. I'd recommend the sub for both. Dub for Haikyuu is ok, but the sub is better. Dubbed HxH is absolute dogshit outside of a few select characters (and that's coming from a mostly dubbed watcher).

Amit

Chainsaw man announced to come out a October!! New trailer came out too

Skyler Anderson
>>89009222

I think something we have to remember is there was a large amount of HxH fans who voted for HxH but I think a lot of Haikyuu fans voted for other stuff and since it got narrowed down the wide range of other show voters voted for Haikyuu which gave it a boost compared to it's first poll.

Elise
>>89028213

Really? I loved the dub for HxH. I think there were def moments where sub carried but I think they did a wonderful job!

Jake White

Totally unrelated and unnecessary, but just came here to say that the new chainsaw man trailer dropped and we finally got our first peak at what the series’ animation quality will look like, since the first trailer was pre-animated awhile back, and dear GOD it definitely looks like it’ll be easyyyyyyy anime of the year top contender material. Seriously, Mappa broke their whole damn foot off in this show, from the looks of it

benj
>>89037545

Yeah the animation looks fucking INSANE in that new trailer. And I'm not even talking about the action sequences, just the normal frames with the mc sitting in bed looks like it took weeks to draw, literally every frame of the trailer was stunningly gorgeous. This is gonna surpass JJK and Demon Slayer when it comes to animation quality.

Megan

On top of the animation being absolutely stunning, the story of Chainsaw Man is one of my favorites in fiction. The story is bat shit insane in the best of ways. Truly one of the most meta reading experiences I’ve ever had. I don’t want to give anything away since I think it’s best to go Chainsaw man blind but I think it’s a must watch for this channel and anyone into action/horror.

Steve.

Edit: Since my original comment was heavily opinionated. What I meant to get at is Subs and Dubs aren’t interchangeable, they are different experiences. Regardless of my opinion on their quality, many things are lost or changed in translation, and if you really enjoy an actor’s performance in one you can be disappointed by their counterpart in the other. To me, this means that when you’re discussing a sub vs dub you’re actually discussing two different experiences, which is an issue on a channel like this where people are expecting their favorite show to be watched, and might end up not getting the experience they liked in the first place. I admit this goes both ways if dub is your preferred version, but in that case I’d say if we’re taking shows produced by Japanese people then tie goes to the original version

ODIS
>>89055022

What do you mean dubs change dialogue? You're still reading English subs even with SUB animes, so you're still absorbing it in English. Who's to say that the English subtitles are all that accurate? Unless you speak Japanese, in both cases you're consuming it in English, so that argument doesn't work. Also, the inferiority aspect is entirely up for debate. I personally agree with you that SUBS are 99% of times better. But it's still an opinion, not a fact.

Brimmy

The people whining about a sports anime have clearly never seen Free! XD also the dub vs sub debate: get over it, let there be more variety on youtube/patreon There's reactors reacting to the SUB of Death Note THE SUB!!! when i'm sure most people grew up with the dub do u know how amazing that is?! also i voted for Haikyuu cuz i figured HxH would win and uhhh I'm very surprised o.o

Ragan Michelle

I’m such a sucker for both of these shows, it just hurts my heart that HxH has been second place in all of these polls for almost a year and just can’t seem to pull through even though it has a much richer story and more to dive into than Haikyuu imo. Haikyuu has a fantastic cast of characters some of which are my favorites in anime, but I think people are too easily dismissing the fantastic writing that the HxH characters have. Haikyuu is also very limited to a very small world view in comparison to shows like Vinland and HxH (very happy Vinland won btw). Also just a suggestion for either shows that win, I know many people will say to watch the dub for Haikyuu, but there are many great moments that are lost to humor in the dub that are just missing from the experience that the original version brings. I tend to like many dubs over sub but for both Haikyuu and ESPECIALLY HxH there’s much missing in the dubs. In HxH’s dub there is a huge mistranslation that is very pivotal that the dub completely fucks over

Ryan
>>89059448

Regardless of what happens, both shows have a slot in the schedule. The only thing that will change is the order. I think that's good news for HxH fans that there will be no more poll drama for their show, haha.

Norrin Radd

So excited to announce that Hunter X Hunter has won the poll!!! Amazing news, great job everyone!!! Can’t wait to get started on this new anime journey.

benj
>>89059421

Why are you saying "THE SUB!!!" as if its a crazy or suprising thing that people would watch a Japanese show... in Japanese. How shocking right? Lol

benj

I can't wait for the person who made 30 accounts to vote for HxH on the last poll to come in last second and ruin this poll again in 19 hours! Thank you random HxH fan, Very Cool!

Ragan Michelle
>>89072798

it's sad that people try to cheat the system, but all 3 shows (Vinland, Haikyuu and HxH) had people creating accounts and changing votes at the last second. There was like a 20 vote jump for Haikyuu, like a 30 vote jump for HxH and a whole bunch of switch ups for Vinland at the last second

KP

Seeing as people are talking about sub vs dub, I'd also throw in and say that I prefer Haikyuu subbed, the yells don't hit the same in dub for me (especially Hinata's sound effects he likes to make)

Hannan

the haikyuu dub is funnier but you lose so much of the depth that makes haikyuu what it is

AryTheDog

People seem to be talking about dub vs sub so i'll might as well throw in my 2 cents. Both Haikyu and HxH are shows that got their dub pretty late so regardless of their quality, people are naturally attached to the japanese version a lot more, even those who would normally watch dubs. Now in regards to what i prefer, i think in both cases the dub fails to capture the energy of the respective series.

UndeadDesk

Na Haikyu dub v sub is just different from others ive seen. Haikyu dub for me is all about comedy with less seriousness. The sub would be better for a first watch and then dub is great for a rewatch

Kohl

I think it'd be cool if this vote was a "which show goes first in the timeslot" poll rather than a "choose which show goes into the timeslot [the other show goes back into the poll rotation". I think that the poll gate proved that all three of these shows deserve to be watched and have a lot of people who will support you watching them. Also, I think that maybe having a long show spot might help in the future, because one of the biggest arguments I'd see against haikyuu and hxh was that they were both longer shows. Maybe having a designated place for long shows where only long shows could battle it out could lead to longer shows being represented easier. Love your videos and I'm very excited for March Comes In Like A Lion! It's a lovely show where your hunger for deep interpersonal relationships will be very well fed.

benj

Writing this comment now just to say with 4 hours left in the poll, Haikyuu has 243 votes and HxH has 216 votes I will be back in 3 hours and I swear to god if there is 30 HxH votes out of nowhere I will self-implode

Jenny bete

Haikyuu will very much most likely win this poll, which means I gotta wait until the mha season 6 reaction bc I am unfortunately not interested in any of the shows that will be reacted to in the near future if haikyuu wins buuuut I am very excited for the mha s6 reaction once it comes out. As a manga reader, I just know Alex will love it (if bones does the manga justice). I will keep being subscribed to the patreon until mha is back though bc I wanna keep supporting

Kayla Grabow

2 hours left and Haikyuu is 30 votes ahead… im excited if it wins!

bl0odm1st

It’s not a Goodwin poll unless HxH is getting narrowly beaten yet again 😂 name a more iconic duo

Skyler Anderson

I’ve never been more excited for a show than I am for Alex to react to Haikyuu. So glad its about to win

Hannan

LETS GOOOOOOO

You’re not open to trying to watch Vinland, Haikyuu, Violet Evergarden, or March alongside the reactions? It’s a pretty diverse field, so I’m just surprised.

Tope

OMG ITS HAPPENING! Never thought this day would come 😭

BRus019

Well hxh family it's not the result we wanted but one thing we are good at is waiting. It will be our turn one day. Whether it's for Togashi or Goodwin we will wait lmaoo

Kayla Grabow

Dub is definitely more of comedy which is always fun, sub definitely has more emotion to it

Kevin Barton

for Haikyuu, definitely sub! The dub isn’t bad at all though!!

Hannan

haikyuu sub for sure!! you'll be able to appreciate the character growth wayyy more

Aidan Pullen

Vinland Saga: sub or dub is probably fine imo Violet Evergarden: not sure what dub is like Haikyuu: sub definitely March comes in like a lion: sub definitely

Megan

Sub for Vinland and Violet Evergarden! I can’t speak on the other shows since I haven’t seen them. My reasoning: Violet Evergarden: I’ve seen both sub and dub all the way through and prefer the sub for sure. Vinland Saga: This show actually has two different dubs which is kinda confusing so I’ve only seen the sub. Sub has top notch voice acting, especially our MC. Also a new season comes out this winter and who know what the dub schedule is.

Nox

I'd say for your first watch through of Haikyuu and better character analysis, go for the subbed. The dubbed is good but it takes a more comedic route than the subbed. But it's worth going back and watching it over again but in dubbed just for the laughs (of course probably on your own time if you wish).

That’s the general sentiment I hear a lot. Of course there are exceptions to both, and sometimes both are pulled off.

Slim Cognito

I’m a sucker for dubs I’ll always go for my native language if it’s a good one. I’ve seen Haikyuu in dub and it’s excellent. I’ve seen Violet Evergarden in dub and the movie in sub and tbh I think the sub is way better.

Slim Cognito

And also definitely sub for Vinland I’ve seen how awful the foreign accents are in dub kinda hilarious tho

Cornhorn

My votes on the subs personally. None of the dubs for the 4 shows are bad. In fact I think they are all pretty decent, but I think vinland saga and haikyu in particular have stand out sub performances that are worth the watch.

Wolfy Fiorini

As someone who was rooting for HxH, I can say with certainty that I'm still happy with the outcome. I come here to see your take and analysis, and the specific show comes second. I also think that we are creatures of comfort, and while it can be difficult it's good to be introduced to new shows rather than watching the same one over and over!

Sirdanik

Easily sub for everything

Geneva The Weeba

I know people hate this opinion. I know. I am prepared to be scorned. Sub for everything except for Haikyuu.

Chris Sharpe

You don’t need to feel forced to watch Hunter x Hunter just for us fans since it keeps getting second place. I’m sure we will win next time. If you are genuinely interested to watch and want to get started after all of these shows, then go right ahead.

Brimmy

Uhhhh Haven't seen Haikyuu or March comes in like a lion and i've only ever seen vinland and evergarden subbed so up to ya'll i guess XD

arcana✦vox

I'm personally fond of the dub for Violet Evergarden. Sometimes the delivery is a bit odd at times, but those moments are few and far between imo. However the sub is great too! I've been watching the subs for Vinland, and I would definitely recommend it. Can't comment on the dub though.

Elise

Although I mainly watch dub when given the chance, I recommend the sub for these shows. I've only seen 2/4 but I quite liked the sub a bit more. But Violet Evergaeden could also be watched in dub and still be enjoyed same with Haikyuu, I just prefer the sub

Bighead

I haven't watched Violet Evergarden, so apart from that, I think the other three shows are definitely better in sub

BRus019

Sub for Violet for sure! (Mikasa's VA!!)

benj

You already know what I’m gonna say about sub vs dub Goodwin… do I really need to elaborate? Ok. I will. Sub all the way for all three shows, hands down.

benj

Absolutely insane opinion Geneva. Just absurd. Ridiculous. Blasphemous. Borderline criminal.

Steve.

Haven't seen Vinland, but for Violet the sub is far and away superior. Ishikawa Yui's gentle voice really lends to Violet as a character, love her performance. Especially love hearing her in the lead role of a show as opposed to supporting. To sum it up, sub all the way for Violet.

Tope

Definitely sub for Haikyuu. The dub completely changes the overall tone of the show.

Thanks for this. It helps to conceptualize it! Plus Ultra is my instinct but... yeah gotta reign that impulse in lol. Either way definitely a lot to look forward to :D

Also if possible, I would do the Crunchyroll subs. Some of the other streaming platforms have some weird translations.

DontStealMyFish

I liked the dub of violet evergarden. I prefer sub for haikyuu.

Aura Y

I look forward to these shows to come! I haven't watched Violet Evergarden or March Comes in Like a Lion yet, but I am down to join the journey!

Melody A

Definitely sub for Violet Evergarden, the experience shook me to my core. Haven't watched the other 3 so I'm looking forward to it!

Kiwi

It's has to be sub all the way, there are few shows I feel like the dub is at the same level for me over the sub (FMAB is one). I cant speak for Violet but the other shows I have heard both sub and dub as Blind Wave does exclusively dub and has watched both Haikyuu and Vinland Saga

iaani

Sub for everything :)

7thdilemma

I cannot go without making a point to recommend the sub for Violet Evergarden. As far as English dubs go, VE does have a pretty good dub but there are still some changes to dialog which do leave something lost. Mostly these are minor details which contribute to thematic consistencies and character qualities. It's not necessarily that these things become less established in the dub, but more that there's just less to appreciate within the writing, or at least that's what I've found. And then I do have to say that one of the greatest strengths to Violet Evergarden as a show is how incredibly real and engaging the emotions of the characters are, and while the dub does handle the task of portraying these characters very well, getting anywhere close to matching the original Japanese would be an amazing accomplishment in it's own right. There really are some incredible performances. I guess this is all to say that I hope you'll choose to watch the sub. And I really can't wait for you to watch this show.

oPhilip

hunter x hunter pain 😢 but excited to see it eventually and excited for my hero to come back and vinland!

Amelia

Sub for VE. I feel like it gets the point (and the pain) better across. Also sub for Haikyuu. It is a unique show with a unique sense of humor and it portraits a unique kind of feeling (can’t really put it into words but just the happiness and easy-going-ness and the connection between the characters) (all in my opinion of course) and I feel like the way they VA’s actors do the job is the only way to get that feeling across. Have seen some scenes in dub, wasn’t impressed. Haven’t seen Vinland Saga yet so don’t know about that.

Nicolas Sabado

I like how you always seem to have 1 main show with 50+ episodes followed by a few shows with max 24 episodes, really seems to be the best move to keep the audience more diverse and engaged.

Norrin Radd

Alex, you should start Violet Evergarden in English, and if you like it you should stick with it… you’re gonna like it.

Norrin Radd

I just had a new anime suggestion for Alex: Devilman Crybaby!!! Who’s with me?

kingafreund

The Haikyuu Dub is actually pretty good, wouldn't mind if you go with that. Generally prefer subs though.

m1gz
>>89155286

hate to be that guy but I cant stand the haikyuu dub if I'm being honest most of the jokes I find are really cringy and they make a lot of changes that I think give the scenes less impact but that just my opinion

Sklargen

Would you potentially watch the Violet Evergarden movies after the series in the future as an “extra” show or something along those lines?

MisterRathrion

Excited for you to react to all these shows. Sub all the way

Donnie Betlem

March's dub is fine, but the sub is fantastic. Really carries the experience to another level!

Niko

Amazing i just subbed to this Patreon to suggest March Comes in Like a Lion since i felt like it would be a perfect show for you. Seeing that its already in planning makes me very happy

benj

Those movies are not optional, the final movie is canon and the actual ending of the main storyline and Violet's entire character arc. He will 100% be watching the OVA and both movies.

This may be the only time I come out of the woodwork to comment, but when it comes to choosing between dub and sub for Haikyuu, sub is the only choice in my mind for any sort of serious viewing or analysis. I say this as someone who is worried that Haikyuu may not have the sort of deep character, thematic, or human condition analysis you are so good at breaking down. Not to say I dislike Haikyuu, very much the opposite. It's in my top 3 anime with Attack on Titan and Fruits Basket. I will freely admit I am usually a sub-only viewer, but I have only seen FMA:B in dub (which I very much enjoyed and had no qualms with) and I was for the most part pleasantly surprised by the dub for Fruits Basket while watching your reactions (I cried nearly as much as the sub). So, this does not come from a place of purity for subtitles. The emotion, the individuals, and the sincerety (which I believe is THE cornerstone of the story) all come through so much clearer and vividly in the sub. Even taking into account the times when lots of information is being thrown at you, this is not a serious discussion in my view. If you want to get as much out of the story as you can, the Japanese VA is the only choice. Now that I have dedicated half an hour of typing to this deadly serious topic, I just want to say I hope you enjoy your watchthrough regardless and that I was very taken with your Attack on Titan reactions, so much so that I watched through FB on my own, partly so I could watch your reaction series after. My eyes will never recover from those back-to-back watchthroughs. I hope you are happy.
