For Patrons $1+: There's no guest this week, so I run off a number of intriguing rumours related mostly to the Nintendo Switch. I investigated why the Switch's voice chat is limited to a mobile phone app - the real reasoning may surprise you! I also talk about virtual console, third party support... and is Factor 5 coming back?!

Tell me what you think! There will be another new episode before the end of June.

Well, with the online phone app pretty much here to stay for Nintendo's online thing... I can't help but feel the FCC is screwing over Nintendo fans bigtime. Seems like an issue worth discussing publicly now, IMO. I at least hope they'd make the phone app ultra easy to use and with lots of cool incentives to make it work but they aren't even doing that now. :(

I seriously can't believe I'm the first to comment on this, as I thought VC would be a pretty hot topic considering how everyone's excited for the VC and how people hate the other kind of VC. Honestly, I was worried the lack of voice chat was due to crazy sensitivity over accessibility and whatnot, since PAL regulations led to the Game Corner getting stripped from the Pokemon franchise, and it seems that's likely to be the case from what you reported and how they're really pushing that stupid mobile app. Honestly, if I were nintendo I'd be bold and defy things anyway, since Pokemon Gen VI added voice chat on the 3DS without any sort of accessibility nonsense whatsoever, or at the very least do some sort of region/adults only lock. I'm not sure how the other systems get by with it, but it is annoying since the lack of voice chat in a new Animal Crossing would likely make me skip the game. The Virtual Console Bit is what I was afraid of the most though. I bought 160 Wii U Virtual Console titles, grabbing up every single obscure retro game I could, while also enjoying the usual Nintendo classics. The best part of the VC was discovering godlike obscure gems such as Ys Book I and II and Castlevania Rondo of Blood, and the biggest dislike of the Classic mini systems is the fact that they always ignore such obscure gems for the common sense ones, since people are boring and only buy mario/zelda/childhood games to be safe. (And I can vouch for this as before 2011 I was stupidly against third parties to the point if it didn't have the Nintendo label and wasn't a familiar franchise I knew, I'd ignore it entirely, which led to me missing out on a ton of great games.) If they moved to a subscription based service with something similar to an unlock tier system of sorts, then I don't know what to think, since I fear it would just be Ninty/Capcom/Tecmo stuff we've seen on the classic systems instead of the more obscure Jaleco/Tozai Games/Irem/Squaresoft gems that hit the VC on Wii U. On the other hand, it could be amazing as if it allowed anyone to publish retro games that way but make them available to a wider range of people, that would mean said obscure gems would be played by a ton more people, and thus it would lead to a lot more folks checking out hidden gems like Ys and Cybernator. I see people whining about the idea of having to spend $5-10 again on retro VC games, but at this rate I just want something besides street fighter ripoffs to play on my switch when it comes to retro content. Hopefully the rumor about Nintendo Online getting delayed is bunk so that way we'll see this in motion soon, and if they all have online support... Oh boy, this may actually be worth the crazy wait. LA Noire did come out (being this comment is from the future) and it's surprising how a game most people would never think of being on an Nintendo System just came out day and date with the other systems, and I think that's neat. Sorry for this big ramble discussing the discussion, but i've been a huge VC nut who feels as if his life force is draining from the lack of VC. On the other hand though, it did lead to the ultra obscure VS Arcade games coming to the ACA so maybe that was a good thing? I think these podcasts are worth more than the $1 I pledge so I'll certainly try to up my pledge here if I get paid more, as I think this place is worth more for the high quality, and I hope to tune in to future podcasts soon. (No worries, I'll keep my lips sealed on this stuff)
