Friend of the show Erik Scheussler joins Dan and I to give our thoughts on recent news and rumours. We go over the impending announcement of the next Nintendo Switch revision, the big Sonic The Hedgehog news, Pokémon, Horizon: Forbidden West, Far Cry 6, and more. I also give an update on Crash and Spyro since people keep asking me about it.

Don't worry. Metroid Dread is coming one day. I still actually want to see that take MercurySteam had.

The thing that upsets me the most about these sprash YTers is that there's really no accountability for the crap they pull. You mentioned that at some point they'd have to pivot, but personally I don't think they will. Back in 2018, when SRT was still a Kotaku rumor, there was an Activison employee who streamed on twitch, and in some I think CoD stream he said something about showing something cool in his next stream. And these YTers managed to twist this into "omg this guy's gonna reveal spyro remaster next week!!!" A bunch of people on r/spyro and such (including myself, full disclosure) bought into this hype, but when it inevitably didn't happen (because why tf would they announce it in a twitch stream?), a few of us were like "ok this rumor was kinda nuts in the first place", but most people (including, iirc, some of those YTers) just cyberbullied the poor twitch streamer. So with a similar situation going on right now, rather than pivot, I'm really worried they're just going to find another really pathetic way of scapegoating others to get out of taking blame for their irresponsible hype. Heck, they're already doing that with you! It's really toxic. (Sorry for the long rant in your comments)

Hey Liam. Good podcast again, enjoy listening to these. I was thinking about your patreon stretchgoals a little while ago, and how you mentioned a look at the original, pre-Retro Metroid Prime 4 was something you had on your sights. That got me thinking a lot about retro studios and the big mystery surrounding that studio, as well as that mysterious "robot" game that was in the works for a while, which we got a glimpse lf through that little goodbye picture retro made for reggie back in 2019. Do you think you could ever talk about what went down between 2012-2019 @ Retro? Or is it far too unsafe to cover like this?

I was wondering the same. I think they are so tight lipped it may be hard but would be an awesome video. Maybe throw in what went around from Star Fox Grand Prix (I know it’s fake but I guess these fake assets were being spread around?)
