Over the past few months, we've seen reports that the Nintendo Switch could offer as little as 3 hours of battery life maximum when being seperated from its dock. After a couple of sources coming forward and doing a bit of digging myself, I think I can comfortably put that rumour to rest.

The 3 hour number that was shared around some time ago was sourced from from development kit units. Crucially, these development kits were not final and around that time, I obtained word that Nintendo would be seeking to improve that number in their retail units to be sold in March. Multiple sources have suggested the very same.

The consensus among insiders (and this is what I believe, too) is that Nintendo has been pursuing 5-8 hours of battery life for the final version of the Switch. I first heard this about two months and now, it is becoming increasingly apparent to me that I was not the only one.

There's no word yet on whether or not they have absolutely, definitely been able to achieve that amount of battery life, but I will keep you all updated when I hear more about the final development kits and the eventual retail units.
