Do you watch anime, or have you ever watched anime at some point? If so, any series that are close to your heart? And are anime TV?

Two Questions 1. You've already talked about brooklyn nine nine but have you considered taking a broader look at comedic cop shows like Police Squad or Angie tribecca? Or even some of the episodes of the simpsons featuring cheif wiggum? Comedy and humor are difficult subjects to talk about but I think it's interesting how a lot of the jokes in those shows are based around police incompetence while still following the "cop good, criminal bad, police catch criminal" formula. When I watched those shows originally I laughed at the buffoonery of frank drebin and cheif wiggum but now I start to wonder how far from the truth those portrayals actually were and if they even qualify as "jokes." 2. Have you ever listened to the "you're wrong about..." podcast? They did an episode on murder that I found really insightful. Its how I learned about the theory that crime rates experienced a significant decline in the US thanks in part to the fact that we stopped putting lead in gasoline.

2026-09-17 23:00 Hi there! I'm curious if you want to share any quick thoughts about the Falcon and the Winter Solider show (if you saw it). I thought about your MCU Copaganda video when I attempted to see it and quit half-way in because it was too excessive. Also are there other series you want to do in the vein of copaganda in the future, i.e. evaluating a thematic trend between several shows.

What do you think of the portrayal of gender politics (both American vs Soviet and how the series frames gender more broadly) in The Americans? Watching the first season I was struck by and left with mixed feelings about how Elizabeth's experience of sexual assault and Phillip's reaction to it were explored. Phillip plays the role of a patriarchal protector in that situation by exacting violent retribution against Elizabeth's assailant, and while based on what I've watched I think the show does have interesting things to say about Phillip's desire to be a protector and his role as the patriarch of the family, it was pretty uncomfortable to watch in the moment! I'd love to hear your thoughts on that scene or on gender in the show at large.

Do you consider yourself the Anthony Fantano of TV reviews?

Has someone ever asked you “is ______ copaganda?” where the answer was no?
