This will be the new comic coming up!

Stumble drunk, Van held his daughter's hand as they made their way to the water's edge. "Careful, daddy," Hannah said. "You don't want to fall in." Only 12, she'd become the parent, doing her best to keep her drunk father out of trouble.

She wanted to comfort him, so she said, "It's okay. When I die I'll be in a better place, and we'll see each other again in heaven."

"No," Van said. "No. I'm such a loser. This is all my fault. If I'd been a better father..." He pulled his hand free. "You're better off without me!"

He jumped into the water. "I would do anything to save you," he shouted. "Anything."

"Daddy!"

Just then, slender hands reached up and grabbed Van, dragging him beneath the water.

"Daddy," Hannah screamed. She didn't know how to swim, but she still started to jump onto the lagoon. "Help. Someone help!"

A woman popped up from under the water, and then Hannah saw the tail flashing behind her.

"A mermaid?" Hannah said, shouted. "My Daddy," she said, remembering his danger. "Can you save my daddy? He's drowning."

"I'm right here," the woman said, her eyes going wide at the sound of her voice. "I-- " she looked down at her chest, then squeaked and threw a slender arm across her bare breasts.

"My Daddy!" Hannah screamed, tears rolling down her cheeks. "Help him!"

"It's me," the mermaid said. "I'm your father."
