Hey yall! I need a little help with STORMWEAVER for those interested taking part! (Patreon)

Hey everyone! This is a weird post for me since I've never done anything like this.

TLDR: As a part of organizing and giving myself better tools to work on this series, I'd like to know what questions/threads/plots do you guys eventually want answers to (that aren't listed below)?

As most of you know Wraithmarked has taken more and more of my time over the years as the company grows. 2026 is a big year for us (we just announced our ERAGON boxset, for example), so that doesn't look like it's changing anytime soon.

However, that has also come at a cost to my ability to produce in the WARFORMED universe, STORMWEAVER in particular, right now.

Now, before anyone gets worried, this is not me saying that I'm stepping away from STORMWEAVER. On the contrary, I'm looking for help getting some footholds in place so that I feel more secure and productive putting the time in.

I'm confident in my ability to bring a story together, given enough time. Book 3, I think, is going to shape up strongly with editing. However, its length is resulting in a lot of strings I'm leaving dangling, and (like the roster I shared the other day) I want to do a better job of tracking the dangling story bits to make sure they get addressed at some point either in this book or following ones.

So in short, I have a question for you:

What questions/threads/plots do you guys eventually want answers to?

I know this is very atypical for an author to ask, but being 1) an extreme pantser/discovery, 2) working 60hrs a week on my day job, and 3) writing in a world much more expansive than anything I've done before, I want to make sure I give myself ever advantage to do things right. So I'm reaching out to you guys to help me make a list.

There are some obvious ones, which I will list here below in no particular order. If there are things NOT on this list that you'd like to see explored, though, comment below and I'll add the ones I think need to eventually be closed off over the course of the next couple days!

It's a small thing, but now that we've seen Aria's brother it makes me a bit more curious about her sister. Basically I can recall of her off the top of of my head is that she essentially followed Camen's path onto the front lines.

One thing I didn’t see listed but have been eagerly waiting for is Rei training with a partial call or no armor against classmates in fights. But I suppose that could fall under Shido Superdevelopment.

At the end of the last book. One of the conditions set by rei was that he would meet hiroto. I was hoping we would get to see that at some point during the book. I'm also generally interested in the family/others connected to the main characters, be that the lady who looked after Logan or cashe's family, or catcher's mother

Ok first of all you pretty much listed all of what I was going to suggest as I was about halfway through reading. However. I think Rei’s family needs to be moved from secondary to primary. That’s a pretty big plot point and shouldn’t be considered a secondary plot. In my mind. It should be Archons Rei’s family Shido and the way it’s developing The Mind and how it’s developing And then everything else you listed.

100% want to know more about the MIND itself. Where did it come from? Did we humans build it? Is it a rouge archon?

Me personally I would love if you were able to either outsource or write it yourself a one book story on Valera Dent, and her time in the military leading up to the incident that ended up disfiguring her face. If you wanted to, you could possibly outsource it to someone else and have them write a small two or three book series regarding her time in school, her time in the circuits, and finally her time in the military culminating with her accepting the job at Galen‘s. I would also very much so like to see Rei and the relationship specifically with Sarah and Hiroto be expanded upon. I feel like there is a very good dynamic that could be there and given that Sarah seems like the doting sister type she could be a really fun character to explore more. In the case of Hiroto, maybe he is able to fully repair the relationship with Rei in time, hoping that he will take the kaymia name.

I think it would be interesting to see some of the origins of CAD’s. Like what they were like in the beginning. Shido is kind of ‘the end’ of card growth… what was the very first one like? Also I hope we get a little on what the Mind is. How it came to be, etc

What I really wanna know is what caused the lock down on the field when aria and rei were fighting in the final round of the ICM tournament. I don’t know if you’ve explained it before and I somehow missed it but that’s what’s been on my mind the most. What caused the android to go berserk and attack them?

Not sure if this is what your looking for but I’ve always been confused with the cad rank vs the class or whatever it’s called like dent is a Bishop Class. Obviously it’s a chess peace related but how do they end up with those classes what do they signify?

I think more of the “warp” I think it was called? The things Rei sees during temporal step would be really interesting. Also some of the other major “players” either in the professional or other school would be great. Also maybe more of an idea of how/where CADs originated?

Ooh I love a good opportunity to help! I've often wondered who would replace Dirk Reese. And if any of the students in the first year would drop out or transfer due to their lack of growth. I would like to see Grant being able to get back with his sister, maybe through the help of the sponsorship. That's about all I've got on my plate. I love how you write the story and keep your readers engaged. 😊

This may have been talked about before but I’m relatively new to the series. (Unknowingly picked up and blitzed through the first two books just to find out after I finished that book 2 had released 9 days before I started them LOL.) Assuming continued success, or even higher levels, how many books do you think this series, Rei’s portion, could there be? I think my questions to plot lines listed would change based on how far the series would go.

Would the ICTs/Tournament scene and his success/progression there be included in the "growing fame" plot points? Would love to see more of the actual competition/fighting vs training.

This is really only a Tertiary but I have been curious on 1. How in the world did Sarah get an S in her second year? And 2. What other parts of the ISCM are like. That will probably come with time and exploring the Archons but yeah. Also any more or less "unique" users or just more users in general, I love seeing/reading about the different designs for CADs and abilities and such.

Also I’ve realized the scope of the world is very big but other than Galen’s and the school system I don’t get to see much of the world. You’ve mentioned a lot of planets and stars and I’d love to see the impact of the mother world (earth) and their perspective on the other planets.

This is probably obvious, as it comes in future books and down the road, but how does the “Iron Prince “, become the Stormweaver? More hints in the comments from Rei’s friends and associates to give light to the name and increased abilities?

I would like to understand how the "mind" became the being it has become. How is everyone so comfortable with this mega AI computer controling everything. And also some back story on Anatoli Sidorov and why eveyone in his group is controlled by him. He's just a second year and they can just move on and find a new group like Grant did.

Oh, the possibilities of the future! What about Rei/Sarah’s parents: They dumped Rei cause they didn’t want to burden themselves and just party on daddy’s dime. What are their thoughts/feelings once they find out the son, they gave up is becoming a juggernaut in the SCT’s. Will they try getting to him and Sarah, trying to ride their coat trails? How are they copping now they are cut off?

I know the war and Archons were mentioned, but I'd love to see(read) them in battle. Currently I imagine them like the mimics from Tom Cruises Edge of Tomorrow but way more high tech. I'd love to see rei fight them and see a gritty side of the world

I think you've covered everything that I want to know in your lists! I also want to know who or what keeps attacking Reidon or maybe why? I know there's been some vague references to "Central Command" but who in Central? Why do they have to push Rei so badly? I'm sorry but I need clarification on the plot regarding Firesong winning Intersystems as champions or else - that whole conversation at the end of book 2 with Aria's father General went a bit over my head - I'm not sure what was happening or again, why Rei? Why now? And if the Kamiya Corp is so influential, especially on Earth, why can't Rei's grandfather step in and curtail at least a few of the General Abel's actions when it comes to Rei? Like putting a whole stop to them being transferred out, so they don't have the threat hanging over their heads, whilst still trying to win Intersystems in book 4 ? Something like that lol

It hasn’t been explained, it was theorized that it was central, and then not central, and I believe the latest was a convo between Dent and MIND where the ability/knowledge to circumvent all of the MINDs resources point back to central

1. The offical field name for the Gate crasher/breaker XD jokes aside, it would be cool to see rai fight some of the named high level SCT combatants that he looks up to and often copies. 2. Rei verses a whole team solo when hes alowed to let loose and use all the stuff under wraps. (maybe even firesong)

Honestly I can't believe we haven't heard from a reidon level superfan who's tracking shidos progress between the qualifiers and the events of book 2. I think the "public opinion" is a pretty big dangling thread that should be addressed. If it were happening today, you just know that the iron prince would be a subreddit and everyone would be theory crafting about who's helping rei or what his stats are. It's what superfan do. Heck it's what rei does all the time. "Which means reis speed spec is atleast the same as blah blah blah".

I think the only plot point you missed in your list that's an established thing and not just something we want as fans, is who is behind the hack and central not seeming to be as unified as they appear. Most of the other plots are up on your board already and maybe this falls under the war or fame category but I think it deserves to be it's own plot point. Honestly you are doing a great job spreading out the character points of view but I kind of miss focusing on Rei and his internal monologue and how he's thinking/feeling.

I know you mentioned Shido, and the war. I wonder specifically about Temporal Step and using it to fight the war. Also who was behind the hacks. The books are great. I am all in the story.

I’m curious about Sarah’s status. She left a team but all the second year teams at Galen’s are full. Is she even eligible to join a team going to globals or since she didn’t compete with them at the intraschools is she out of luck until next year. It would be interesting to see an interaction between her and her old team at intrasystems

More information on the shards, how they form, how they grow. Also, this is more an idea I think would be cool, given the "shards" element, I also think it would be cool if Rei could use abilities with those he shares a shard within that type shift, and also he should be able to share type specific abilities back.

I have wondered that too! I was thinking that once you reach S class S0 to S2 is Pawn class, then you could have S3 through S8 for the other classes, Knight, Bishop, Rook, Queen and King class so I'm thinking maybe S9 would be King class?

The archons seem the main plot that’s just a shadow cast by everyone’s nightstand. Why don’t they have archon training classes? Why don’t they have archon fighters simulated in SCT’s. What stops the Archons from warping into Galen’s system?

Several of the plots can be adressed together. Priority should be war (Archons, Laurent's fear, Valera's backstory). A major element of universe and we know nothing about it.

I agree , there are a lot of plot lines that need addressed before we expand into archons. Or. Jumping into the archons automatically kills at least half of the plot lines listed.

Personal would be consequences of Sarah leaving Annapolis. She is a top tier 2nd year collegiate SCT leaving the best ISCM school (assuming this). What do people think of this odd decision (and then when her relation to Rei found out)? Can she still compete at Global, Systems, Intersystems after the interruption to schooling?

A specific plot point I would have liked to see on page was how Rei’s parents got chewed out by Hiroto, where he told them he will cut their budget. I haven’t caught up to the new chapters so feel free to ignore it if it has already happened but seeing their reaction and how maybe they’re wondering what’s going on would be great. Also, more info on how the CADs and their initial ranks are created. We know the scientists (?) making them can’t choose the stats, so what defines them? Also, what happens to the CADs that evolve into something useless (I think one chapter starting quote mentioned something like that possibly happening. I’d even read about it in one of Rei’s CAD theory classes😄

General Abel is really compelling and I'd love to know 1) her backstory (such a senior general with no CAD?), and 2) who she's working with or against in central command. Also, I'd like to learn more about the MIND's role in government. To what extent are its plans and intentions shared with central command? How far does the MIND's independence go and how aware are the powers that be of that independence?

How about Viv’s response to Rei accepting the sponsorship? I feel that that was totally skipped over even though she was very upset just finding out who they could be so her not reacting to it would be weird. Also her response to finding out the whole story that he got from his grandfather.

Don't jump around and have half assed plot conclusions/wrap-ups. What I love about Stormweaver is the way you flesh out each iteration. Take it to the Inter-ststems and bring Firesong into alignment. You already tease some of the future bad-assery in the little snippets that preface chapters. Definitely wrap-in von Bors granddaughter.......she seemed amazing!!!

Its probably part of "shidos development" but Shido/Kestral relationship with the MIND. Kestral/Dent is shown to communicate with the MIND and if I recall it was hinted at that Shido would too at some point.

I did pose a number of open questions a year ago or so in a thread on reddit called something like "how dark is the war-formed universe?" I have reading your earlier works on my short list (that's the long list I'm still trying to convince myself will eventually be done), but the world building so far could go very differently depending how evil you want to make society in general and the ISC and ISCM in particular.

Well, actually... Since the rank is the average of a users and cads individual ranks and even Kings and Queens have strengths and weaknesses it stands to reason that it's actually 1:1. Pawn S0, Knight S1, Bishop S2, Rook S3 and Kings and Queens S4.

I'm gonna assume its coming/part of the "Rei's family" plot point, but I am really hoping to see what happens and how they react when Rei's parents eventually find out about him. I know they got "cut off" by Hiroto, but I feel like there's potentially more story there, still.

I have a question about CAD types in particular in relation to SHIDO. Since SHIDO has developed a new type does this mean we will start seeing Breaker types assigned to incoming first years next year and does the affect SHIDO have to the development of other CADS only affect those he fights with or does it also affect those he's generally around ? Will we start seeing developing CADS in his whole class?

The MIND’s control over User tech, and the user tech’s creation is a loose thread. Obviously, the MIND doesn’t have full control, else everyone would run around with S ranked growth. But it probably goes under the same thread as Archons.

Cashe and Catcher’s backstories and family could be addressed later when they go to Systems. An event of that scale would 100% bring their families in to watch (unless incapable) and they would want to meet Firesong.

I know Shido is interacting with the Cad's. Shido hasn't interact with Logan Cad. Maybe because he was last, are Shido waiting to see if Logan is a true friend of Rei. It was brought out that Shido is listening to Rei. In book one Logan didn't like Rei. I'm curious on what will Shido decide with Logan Cad.

One thing I don't see listed is Rei and Aria's relationship. I realize this a progression fantasy but having just a little of that slow burn romance mixed in the first 2 books was one of the (many) things that hooked me in and kept me reading/listening. Lots of the focus this book has shifted towards Rei's sister and family, as it should, but I'm looking forward to the interactions between Aria and Rei's family, and more interactions with Rei and Aria's family, especially once his family name becomes known publicly. I'd love to see Aria's mom eat crow and have to apologize to Rei after her actions and remarks about him being a Ward once she finds out he's actually from probably a more prestigious family than her own.

I’d love to know a bit more about the jump visions—they seem likely to be alternate universe versions of Firesong members, possibly. As for book lengths and dangling plot lines go, one solution from other authors that I’ve really enjoyed is a separate novella or short story released between the main novels. It lets you do more world building and answer questions without turning book 3(+) into more of a behemoth than it has to be, and it gives those who don’t follow you here a bit more content!

•Sidorov being the antagonist and his control over those in his same year being so ironclad right now and how it got so bad. Ultimately I see Sarah breaking his face in and establishing herself. Valera punting him completely into space after that would be great too. •General Abel and her ability to get around the MIND. And specifically her enmity with Valera. Also, regarding her, it feels like the growing fame should give Rei and Firesong some form of protection against her as now other higher ups/ generals have surely taken notice and suspect her(potential allies or more foes?). •The Kamiya name in general. It’s mentioned that they’re big shots but like, how big? Also what happened to the parents? They kind of just went off camera or something. Anyways, there’s a lot to balance with these plot lines. Inter systems and the archon war? Sounds like too many details would get glossed over. Though I honestly would both laugh and cry if Shido started talking at like, rank A and somehow jumped into a conversation with Valera, Kes, and the MIND and then that’s how the Rei finds out time is running out (then book 3 ends lol ultimate cliff hanger) That’d be wonky. Most excited for more Valera Dent backstory tho even if it might take bit to get there.

Something I’d like to see is a little more on the sub-instructors. Some seem to have fought in the STC’s, but some of their history and stuff would be nice. Loved seeing Bretz promotion and advancement but the others too. Which brings me to my second point. We know Shido is impacting the devices in Firesong. I’d also like to see maybe Shido affecting other devices (not to the extent of Shards, probably). Sense springs to mind, as he’s been on Rei’s side since day 1. Gisham too. Then you’ve the likes of Vademe and Kay. Also the sub-instructors are possibles for this too, Bretz and Imala and DeSoto especially right now. Lennon and Dice too, plus the S ranks brought in my Kamiya. And most of all Dent. I’d love to see some Kestrel/Shido interaction, and Shido helping Dent get to Rook (or even Queen) class. She’s been Rei’s second staunchest and longest advocate after Viv, and Kestrel seems to care about Rei too (least that’s how I read it), so it feels fitting that the CAD that can boost others would boost Dent/Kestrel. Maybe not until Shido awakens and understands the true value of loyalty, but at some point I’d love to see that

(It is very hard to choose, you've built a fantastic universe!!!) Primary: Basically the Archon War arc, including Valera's history here. I hope the story drives towards a stunning showcase of a powerful Rei with the Archons (eventually). The fame is secondary to that for me, I wanna see the society realize their "games" are in service of a deadly and traumatic war for those on the frontlines. Secondary: The affects on the family of Firesong, including their found family. Rei/Sarah/Jasper/Kamiya. The Sponsorship mentors, especially Aria and her brother, and Aria's parents. It's hard for me to want to cut any of the backstories of the found family in the tertiary plots, but if I have to pick two character families to focus on, I'd pick Rei and Aria. I'll note that you have plenty of room for parallel novellas in the future to come back to some of these threads. Hearing about what Lennon does in a separate novella would be kind of awesome. He's a great character, but, to me at least, he doesn't need to be front and center right now if I have to pick. I guess if I have to pick one of two directions, I want the story rooted in war, and its effects on families, rather than in fame.

All that list are priorities, these would be really nice to have: 1) I want to see the process in Rei as Shido gains sentience Super quickly. 2) Rei's coding and editing abilites, why they are what they are and how he wants to use them, and how Shido riffs off of his creativity 3) Chance's romance 4) loved the hinting of Sarah's relationship, want more 5) Arias sister 6) Aria/Viv meeting and hating his parents, but coming around to Hiroto 7) I really want to know why the archons are at odds, how they could be assimilated or interacted with, and how Rei eventually effects change in the political structure, develope into the galaxy, find more species explore and keep moving the edge of human space. I love the exploration and future potential after the war is over

I always felt that Dr. Hiroto Kaymia was the one who developed the base intellect programming to let the mind become sentient, initially to help with scientific advancement and experimentation and that’s why he is in charge of the business organization that no one can talk about in relationship to cad development.

Me personally I would like to know more about the Arcons and the war. I'm not real concerned with the sponsorship. We already know why it was offered and how the grandfather found Rei. I would like a little short story of the conversation between the grandfather and Rei parents. Some back story on Cather and his mom, Cash's story, and most importantly a reaction from viv after she wakes up about the sponsorship and Rei meeting his grandfather. I feel like we just kinda skipped over that. I was looking forward to Viv going nuclear again especially after her initial reaction to the sponsorship. I kinda feel like she will wanna beat herself up for not being there for Rei during that. At some point a meeting with Logans sister as well would be good.

Is “all of the above” an option because I really want answers to everything on the list! For me Id say most any of the topics from the primary are interesting enough to dig into. The secondary is 100% Sarah and Reis relationship so he can get to know her and maybe get some kind of closure/understanding on that part of his life. Tertiary Id have to say I really, really want to know more about Logans sister, possibly have a meeting arranged for him and her. He has gone far enough up my list of truly likable characters that I think he deserves some closure on that part of his life too. It could change him for the better in a serious way.

The archons/the war along with Shido actually levelling. The whole reason for the end of year tournament setup is surely drive towards being ready for the war. Shido creating new abilities and helping other devices develop special abilities is all well and good for the team, but at the end of the day, levels matter. I am looking forward to Rei breaking into A levels before end of year (as has been alluded to previously in the writing).

I'm most interested in the Archons and I guess combat sims of them. I guess the plan is to start introducing footage and simulations of them during second year? It wouldn't make sense for the military preparatory academy to not provide any training on the actual enemy. And I'm actively disinterested in the Kamiya corp. As someone with family dynamic problems I can tell you that the money and support they offer me is never free. It always comes with unspoken strings and conditions, as if they are literally buying control over my life because they helped me make rent. That is literally how they act, "Well I helped you that one thing so you should listen to me about how your hair is the wrong length for your gender." So when I read this Kamiya stuff, it seems literally unbelievable. Sure maybe that grandpa is for real, but he's still a capitalist. He's got shareholders to satiate, rivals looking to trip him up, and government officials to bribe, to keep the shark consuming and moving. Once that shark stops moving forwards, it starts to die. Blowback and other stuff thanks to gpa's decision will affect Firesong sooner or later.

I think you are bringing your trauma into this. Instead of allowing this story to be its own creation. What happens to you is wrong. It sounds a lot like what Sarah’s parents do to her. Whereas their grandfather seems to be a genuine person. Also the sponsor is likely personal finance and not corporate other than being connected by the individual being the primary shareholder of the company and him being willing to put the company’s influence behind his desire to ensure that he made it happen.

I've read a lot of other comments, and agree with most of them. One thing I haven't seen is more about the MIND - specifically what other steps it has taken outside of Rei and its relationship with Dent/Kes. Obviously, it sees the war is going poorly and I would find it hard to believe that Rei is the only off-the-wall chance it's taken. A POV where it's checking on its other last-ditch-effort projects/gambles would be cool.

Tertiary plot: I'll take whatever you give me on backstory and relationship stuff. Viv's and Aria's are the big ones. Closing out Logan's sister might be nice.

I mean, yeah? I'm reacting to it from the experiences of my own life. Someone who survived or experienced SA would react to SA plotlines the same way. The story is its own creation and so is my reaction to it. Maybe I'll be wrong about where I think its going, but that doesn't make my feelings about the situation as its presented now any less real. And in book 2 it was already fairly heavily talked about all the influence Kamiya spent in order to secure the contract, before the cost of the contract itself. All the threats they made, the bribes, the favors called in. All of that has a cost to the company, be it in literal currency or engendered ill-will. Instead of spending resources to maintain its dominant market position, some were spent on securing a personal passion project. So the other capitalists are incentivized to move against Kamiya in the near-term. I don't know how that will play out in the narrative, or if it'll even be put into it, but its still there in the background

I only really have one brain worm that keeps popping up for me when reading this story, as something I fear you'll leave unanswered. Rei/Viv's relationship feels very uneven. She's often shown having the friend skills....knowing how to get him into the ring when he's scared, knowing how to find him when he's upset, knowing how to get him to open up...etc. Yet he never seems to be that person for her. That could be explained in some kind of backstory, or just given an opportunity to shine in the future writings. I guess the question is either why is their relationship so unbalanced, or how is it not?

I get the feeling that the visions are a deep expression of the person some how or might even predict the future in some way. Hmm, in theory pretty much all of what you have listed here would be nice to have and I think another aspect is that some of what is listed connects well to others like the first two under Primary Plot. In the immediate, I've been wondering for a while about the announcement regarding globals and the new bracket for first years and the reaction from it. How those fights will play out given the goal Firesong needs to meet is another aspect since right now it feels like Firesong could trounce a lot of teams. Then again, those around Sol specifically are likely monsters too. The archons are a continuing mystery but one I don't necessarily need to see revealed right away depending on how you wind up playing it. One I'm not seeing would be more regarding the Laurent family since we haven't met the sister yet given she's on the front lines. For me the things I'm most curious about in the moment would be Shido's continued development as well as how we see the rest of Firesong develop from its influence. Adding into that is Rei's fame alongside the rest of the team. I'd be curious to hear some of the speculations on the boards as an example if you were ever interested in that. I remain curious how other aspects of the Kamiya sponsorship may play out. The money was off the table but the rest was seemingly still there, though obviously the trainers were the biggest draw that we've been focusing on. Speaking of Kamiya, I'd wonder if their rivals like Veragoth (if I'm remembering the name) come into play at all beyond an interesting bit of background info. In terms of Firesong, besides Rei's family hang ups I would think Logan has the most dramatic aspect given the bad relationship with the grandparents and his sister being separated from him. I am curious about Catcher's mom too since she has seemed fun. Chancery hasn't really spoken much about her family so not sure. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if she perhaps has the most "normal" parents out of their team.

Personal: I really like the future glimpses, I'd like to see more of them. I'd also like to know more about how devices are created and more lore/future history. I'm big on world building.

Let's go the other way for a moment, and explore the things I like / dislike, as they may be more interesting than the various plot development. The NOT interesting areas: * All the teen relationship drama. I get they're teens, and teens are stupid and drama prone in this area, but the more you can minimize this the better. The current book has some significant leanings this way. * The "Woe is me" threads both from Rei and Viv can really be a drag to read. More importantly, they're not interesting. The "Woe upon us for our daughter" from the Laurent parents can be mostly skipped. So far, we've seen nothing really about the War or the system level AI. I would like to see that explored a bit, especially as Dent clearly has some major things going on there. An occasional chapter reveal there to grow the breadth and depth of the world is good. The Growing Fame is interesting (both for Rei, Shido, and Firesong). That can probably be more background materials and buzz, with the nice job you do from the occasional top-of-chapter quote and other point of view. Lennon is interesting reason - you've done a nice job making him quite charismatic. More depth there, and keeping him involved is only good. So far, his girlfriend Dice is not at all interesting. The other big areas - why is Shido the only CAD with an S-Tier growth so far? How much of this was influenced by the system AI vs being just random. It seems time to get into that story a bit. We know the AI is not a kinder / gentler AI, so "Why Now? How Far will it go?" is the question.

I would like to see a growing theme of "the government wants complete control" and how that pressure maybe distances Rei from wanting to fight in the war? This thread could also tie in to the growing fame one and would be an interesting view. Like how Abel wants to do the right thing but just goes about it the wrong way. This has actually already been hinted by the attack on Rei, pushing his limits, gag orders, etc.

I think that the Archons being an unexplained bad guy in the far reaches of space is kind of perfect for this point in the book series. The enemy not seen is more intimidating for the moment. Plus there are already enough dangling threads. I do think that Sihdo/Rei's growing fame should definitely be addressed more, especially after such public attacks on him. There only so many times we can read a throwaway line about the feeds being suppressed by the MIND before it gets old. 🤷🏽‍♂️ I think the Kamiya sponsorship is represented pretty well with Jasper and her presence. And maybe it's time to bring home the Rei and Sarah relationship angle. Would be nice to give Rei another part to his support system because he's going to need it. Also, I think Chancery has been pretty underdeveloped overall. She's had some good moments but she's usually in the background. We've seen more of Lenon and Dice's relationship which is nice but they are secondary/tertiary characters compared to Chancery who is a part of the team. Would be nice to have more of her backstory and personality come through. Overall, I've loved reading everything you've done so far with the third book but I think it's probably time to tighten the storyline a bit around the main characters and their struggles. Additionally, Shido is growing a bit too powerful too fast (this is a common issue with progression fantasy books) and, even now, feels too powerful to be beaten by anyone at his grade even CADs from earth. So maybe some sort of slow down or limitation while Rei learns to master all his current forms would be good. I could see the Ivory Shield being someone who forces a pause to the growth and faces down General Abel forcing her to back off from the growth at any cost mindset. Regardless of whatever you choose to do going forward, I've loved the books and the writing so far. Wish you had more time to dedicate to this story. Maybe it's time to hire someone to take over some of the other stuff 👀 🙏🏽.

I've been really enjoying the story. My main concern is actually scope creep on the story. Each book seems to be less and less in story time due to more and more being included without further pushing previous plot, other than Rei's and his team's improvement. The glimpses "behind the scenes" with the high command's concern about the war, why the MIND talks to Dent (and why Dent's device also talks!) are not fleshed out enough. I don't know why these events have an impact. There is a disconnect, for me as the reader, between the foreshadowed losing war and the focus on the intersystem championship. The in story glimpses suggest that Rei is needed for the war effort very soon, yet all the chapter quotes and story focus suggest that he's going to compete in the arena with his team. Its like the story points that are there to justify pushing Rei so fast are not urgent in the telling of the story. That urgency is also why if feels weird to spend less time in world for each book.

Read most of this, and agree with a lot...these are great books and great plans for future development. I agree that learning what causes the CADs to become sentient, how that happens, and whether Shido starts "talking" to Rei would be interesting. I'd also like to learn more about the links Shido has created with the other team members. Can they begin to communicate with each other telepathically? Does Shido affect ALL of the teammates' growth, and possibly anyone else who regularly works with Rei and Shido? Will Sarah eventually train with Rei and have a growth jump? Would that push the govt somehow, or could other CAD users start to realize this and transfer to Galens like Sarah did with the hope of training with Rei and Shido? So many great possibilities!

This may sound odd, but this is how my brain works. One of the story beats that is implied but not noted is that there is another besides the MIND and our ever friendly General that are taking steps to push Shido/Rei. I know that the Command and MIND are both doing things, but when I read the second book I seem to remember it being implied that there could be other actors involved/affecting the system to push Rei and Firesong even harder. As I said it could be due to the way I interpret your writting, but it does seem that there was another player that could be influencing and involved in pushing Firesong and Rei/Shido to grow As always thanks, I enjoy your process and the direction you are taking this story

All the kids seem so OP the school setting is getting irrelevant. With the sponsored tutors what other age appropriate team can compete? The power creep and time passage dont seem to match up. Despite the story pushing the get stronger mantra. Maybe a chapter of another top team training for context. If a bunch other top potential cadets meet up and train like firesong how strong do they get? With all the second year drama it feels like this would help. I dont see how they lose to any first or second year team at this point.

Look at the end of the day, the whole premise of the series and REI even getting SHIDO is that there is an overarching need for an outlier with untold potential to break limits and provide a sort of end run potential to fight and hopefully defeat the ARCHONS, otherwise defeat of humanity/civilisation is feared after 5 years or so. This is the reason why General Able has pushed so hard with her machinations. It is the unspoken threat underlying interactions with/by all the senior ranked figures in the know. I agree with previous comments that the teenage angst is sometimes a bit too much especially when all the back plots do not enhance the story. I agree with a previous comment that REI getting every type ability under the sun seems a bit over the top. Rather it would seem better to have a range of abilities (not all), become brilliant at those abilities to compensate for NOT having all type abilities, and instead let REI progress in levels. He will have to be beyond even S King class (maybe S Emperor class) to face and hopefully defeat the Archons and even that may not be enough. (Reasoning for that is that there are existing S class King/Rook/Knight/Bishop/Pawn class heroes and humanity is still losing) It will be interesting to see who can sort of keep up and stay the course in his team, and who will have to be regretfully left behind and maybe replaced. The bottom line is the MAIN STORYLINE MUST BE SERVED, otherwise it just turns into another teenage angst series.

Other than the listed things.... I one day need an answer to my theory of what exactly CADs are. Cause for a while now I've been pretty much convinced that CADs are not just some fancy armor/weapon but actually baby Archons that have been changed or even enslaved to serve human purposes. Pretty sure Kes is not the only CAD that has the potential to become sentient. I would rather think any CAD can, they just never get to that point. Or maybe they're too "stupid" to become properly sentient... idk... So.... yeah... basically what I wanna know is - what exactly are Archons? What are CADs? Other interesting things would be that woman that constantly spills her coffee whenever rei makes a big jump to finally meet him one day. And maybe for Rei to one day show the middle finger to central ... or at least general Abel.

All of the above are things I'm interested in. Aside from those, I'm interested in seeing more about the MIND, as I find it a very an interesting character. I'm a bit less interested in whatever the Siderov or whatever his name is (the classmate villain) is up to. Rei and Firesong are so powerful and get so much attention from the higher ups that it's hard to imagine whatever power he has can compare to them in the near future, and the antagonism in school plot already was done enough (and more interestingly) in the previous book. Maybe because it's just hard for me to imagine the secret of why he scares everyone into following him will actually be something big and interesting. Unless he's secretly involved with the Archons, I don't see how it would push the storyline along much, and Firesong has enough challenging opponents (even in just Intersystems) without needing to fight him too. I cared more about the sister, etc in his scene than him.

I would like more rei and hiroto interactions. Also rei getting a chance to shit all over his parents. And honestly, I think it's time dent comes clean eith rei about everything. I know he's just a first year, but there's no way they keep rei in school for 3 years. I doubt he stays past his first year at this rate. There's things about the war he's going to need to know, and it would be messed up to drop on him that he's humanities last chance without giving the kid time to process that. And to a lesser extent Firesong as a whole. The majority of them probably never planned to go fight the war, instead opting for careers in the SCT's. They should know what they are getting into sooner than later. Also, could qe possibly get the scene where hiroto tells rei's parents they are cut off and explains why? That scene will be so satisfying to read. Someone needs to put those 2 in their place.

The war should be a big part but I don't think it should be rushed could likely stretch that out for close to 3 whole books alone. The whole Siderov angle works but it also feels a bit lacking in his planning department. We know he is an attention seeker and afraid of missing out on the spotlight, but we don't really know why he acts that way, like what is driving his ego outside of winning his first year tournament. It wouldn't hurt to have a little bit flashbacks of Rei at the orphanage to develop why his personality is the way it is. Then there is Arias parents, they didn't really seem too keen on Rei when they found out they were dating. Another angle could be Logan's little sister. There could also be a response from Rei's parents to Hiroto about being cut off where they go on a tirade attempting to get even somehow.

The plot needs Rei to head into the Archon war. You need an Enders game moment where things get real. We need more interludes where we see the archons start seriously damaging the ISCM and we see how scary they are. The whole book should lead to him heading to the battlefront. That's my two cents.

How does Sarah's transfer to Galen's affect her qualifications for Globals? As number one in her class at Annapolis she must have been highly ranked. How about her squad? The one she left and will she be integrated into one at Galen? Maybe take over Siderov's! When will Logan get a boost? Would like to know more about Lennon's life. We get glimpses like from the guy who was kicked off his team and that he has not yet accepted sponsership. Will Lennon and Dice get boosts from spending time with Rei? I definitely want to keep learning more about if Rei can influence who and what boosts people get. Considering the war they are headed to, is it more who Shido considers will be of support to Rei in the war?

I have read both books and now catching up in patreon. Love it. I would say the most interesting thing for me would be the system and inter system tournaments. How strong better trained are the other pinnacle schools in sol for example. And of course the next upgrades for Rei and the team!

Honestly my best feedback after 1 and 2 is that Jasper has basically done her part. Pretty sure most don't care about her backstory and it isn't at all relevant to the story. She's a fixer. She did her job. Maybe simply do her backstory as an eventual spinoff
