It's heeeeeeeere!Well... almost hahaThere are some minor edits to make, namely changing the claws to be story accurate and editing the face a little (definitely too flat right now), but this is 95% done! Hope you guys like the direction Bryce decided to go in for this one! The cover of Book 1 was a calculated evil, but it did let us go back on this one to Brawler-Type, which means IF anything ever changes for Rei in the future books we will be able to stay ahead of any spoilers!

LeaphyMoon

Spoilers! We know he gets a full suit this book! Also this looks sick as hell man. I can't wait to have a physical copy of this!

Darren Dyke

This is bumborassclat amazing !!!

Darren Dyke

Please tell me it becomes sentient like shido

LeaphyMoon

True, butt ( ;) it looks awesome. I love the details and underlying layers, like there's muscle strands.

Mike Frenkel

Woah. How many evolutions does this take? And we can clearly see which part of Rei Aria likes best haha.

Copperkale

🤯 this all I got after seeing this, I’m so excited for book 2

Darren Dyke

Back suit with a gem on him navel eh??

Devin Jaros

Bahahaha can’t wait to see how many times they mention Rei needing a haircut 😂

Adunn

His butt makes me uncomfortable for some reason

Lori

Fantastic! Kudos to the artist.

Polyist's Apostle

I am just wondering if its cannon for his brawler claws to be retractable to some degree

Darren Dyke

Like I was made of glass...

PaulBFB

yeees, awesome! also, there needs to be a GIF reply here, for all the "THHHHHHICCCC" gifs srsly this looks bad-ASS

Leo

THIS IS SO AWESOME I cannot Seriously, I can't wait. Someone teleport this on my shelf now please

AlexG

That's America's...I mean...Galen's Ass.

Will Pembo

I’m guessing his most recent evolution that he hasn’t seen yet is torso armour completing the set then, looks kinda cool

DatGuyBidu

The guy is packing a whole bakery

LaFawn Scott

Awesome. I think the overall effect would be better if his but was less shiny. It distracts.

Rajeev Roy

Wolverine and Raiden vibes but I am more interested in those who surround him feels like archons

Mark

The Red Butt Plug?

Wilson Lessley

I wonder if the lightning is just an effect put in by the artist, or if it is hinting towards something special happening to Shido… Rei does become The Stormweaver eventually!

Joanne Hans

Can you imagine Wizards doing a MTG set based off this series. Commander set for each of the CAD types. Talk about being in heaven.

Wilson Lessley

There is no way that there are 2 (potentially 4) other 1st year cadets who developed their CADs faster than Rei! (Faster because they have full helmets while Rei so far has just the mask/eye shield). I wonder if that means he has to fight 2nd years?

Joanne Hans

or those are the instructors.

Tim Carter

Looks like I imagined it!

Joanne Hans

I like The Stormweaver series better, So fingers crossed , ;)

Adam Miller

I don't really think he has a big butt, he has swole thighs and a small butt imo. It is also hard for me to unsee the buttplug. Shiny levels are good in my opinion, we are dealing with magical future tech here after all

Todd Collins

I can't see this without hearing Viv (voiced by Luke Daniels) saying "Look at that hunk of man meat"

Gregg Moses

It is exactly how I pictured him looking deep into the multi school tournament. I think he is competing against upper class-men at this point. And that’s not a butt plug it’s where the groin protection of his suit ties into his suit in the back.

TrakN7

The tease of a type shift is great. Will we get looping animation of a type shift in the future?

Shannon Bryce

I really like it, but to be honest the color of his "under" plate looks like a vajay.

Adam Miller

maybe rei has a very low butthole and a very small grundle?

John Findlay

I understand artistic licensing being graphic art tech and I've taken some myself over the years. It's a great picture with 2 small problems; one he had his hair cut before school started 2 foot of length? And two it might be my imagination but isn't Rei supposed to be a guy? A skinny guy at that... hourglass figure is female. A guy's build gets wider at the hips not the waist. The rose tint to accent reinforces feminine. I personally would have just used blues as described in the book.

Sean Flood

He’s a Dorito which is fair enough seeing as he basically has superhuman strength and most superheroes these day are Doritos.

John Findlay

Nah, should be a Doritos, instead the cover artist gave him child baring hips to complete the hourglass figure.

chem

I'm guessing this might be Sectionals, but the opponents he (and presumably his team, since there's more than one) are facing are fully armored, and thus high-rank, and I don't know if first-years get to face upper-years at Sectionals. As far as the drawing goes, the one comment I'd make is that the two he's facing look too generic--too similar. They're both in chunky gray armor with the same goldish highlighting. One key aspect of the CADs is their wild variety, so I'd like to see the two he's facing look more different--maybe have one look tank-like, and the other look more sleek. Also, I'd like to see more of their details as well--I can't even tell what type they are, or what weapon they are carrying. Finally, as described in the book, CADs tend to be colorful, with lots of glowing highlights--like they have glowing veins of power running through them. These have limited glowing parts.

Jude Brandt

Just to remind you that he has Japanese origin, so Asians in general are smaller, and skinnier. So basically, this is the buff version of an Asian.

John Findlay

I'd have to agree with the underwhelming creativity of those on the field with him if I wasn't hung up on Ward being presented as a girl with three years of hair growth in 6 months time.

John Findlay

Lmao, a buff male is narrowest at the hips. The artist didn't go looking at guys for the figure. That's kinda why I pointed it out. The accent colors also scream feminine. Blue and steel are the colors of his cad where did artist pick up rose tint and red from that? This is a picture the artist had the parts to in his own portfolio and slipped in for speed rather than take the customers directions. It looks good so he is hoping the details will be over looked.

Gabriel Call

When I saw the cover I thought more of future Rei, but I thought the same when I looked at the other cover as well. In Iron Prince cover if I'm looking at it correctly hes much more defined looks like a fully grown man that has reached his godlike potential surrounded by waves of fans. This cover I can't see being sectionals yet, plus at the start of intra schools in book one they were commenting on how people were finally starting to get their full CAD suits filled in in the upper classes like you mentioned.

Pyritepillager

I’m guessing a lot of that body armor was a result of a couple chapters ago

Pyritepillager

Also not sure if this help but his eye shield would work better if it had a very dark contrast to his skin and hair. At least in my opinion.

John Findlay

You know I'm going to check a couple covers with simular armor with a female MC and I'll come back to this.

Tad

I just came

Francis

I was thinking Sub Zero

Francis

I don't see where you are coming from at all. I'm a straight gal and there is nothing feminine about it. In fact he looks hot af to me. Also, Rose colored tints are feminine? Really?? That's a very weird thing to say. Lastly, the CADs are thicker around the waist, just scroll down and look at the other pics. The suit won't be the same thickness for all the body parts, some have additional padding.

Francis

Umm maybe he isn't fighting against users, did you consider that?

Francis

This is amazing!! And I'm still simping his hair. He can do a high ponytail like you see in Chinese and Japanese martial arts Manga

Joanne Hans

" Never say man meat again......ever "

John Findlay

The picture looks good. Your sexuality has absolutely nothing to do with anything. The physical proportion are of a buff female not a male. The color choices the artist chose support this fact. It's a good picture but it doesn't support the story beyond the claws, the poorly added face and the arena setting.

Wraithmarked Creative

John, you're boarding on sexist comments now, if not putting a toe over the line. Take a breath. Rei's physical form looks great, and I'm very pleased with it. While we're correcting the color splash, it's because they aren't correct, not cause they're feminine. Please be mindful of your fellow readers and Patrons, -Bryce

Fleetpanda

This looks awesome! And I'm beyond glad that you guys chose to avoid plastering the massive end of book plot twist on the front cover (sigh, honestly...). That said, I wish we'd just flat out quit showing his cool upgrades that we don't know about yet on the cover. The RAFO part is less fun (at least for me) when I already know the end result.

Raymond Lenihan

I think you have to ignore the opponents. The cover of the 1st book had him against basically the same exact opponents. I think they are just generic sci-fi enemies for the sake of not spoiling things and just to make the cover appealing to potential new readers. They def don't look like humans though, and I'm not saying I believe he's fighting archons, I'm just saying it looks like the artist just inserted random robots as enemies for an exciting cover.

DatGuyBidu

Can we get a really high quality pic of this for wallpaper purposes?

John Findlay

She brought sexuality in to it and I replied it has no place in the conversation as you could note yourself. I also stated it's a good picture. Then I stated your cover artist is passing a girl off as a male. The build should closer to Spiderman not wonderwoman. But if you're happy so be it.

PaulBFB

well, first years fight in their own bracket in sectionals... except for "special circumstances" as it was pointed out especially in book one. I felt at the time that was a bit of a wink-wink-nudge-nudge moment... page 407 book 1, CH 23

Daniel

I'm more than a little curious if he is going to develop externals....No chances that would be spoiled with the art huh?

Wilson Lessley

This is a world where small, light wrist bands transform into full body suits of metal armor with weapons. These same wrist bands literally perfect the wearers DNA, so far as to fix genetic diseases (is Rei’s medical issue technically a disease? I have no idea). Most humans are genetically engineered at birth, and human civilizations spans multiple star systems. All of this, and you are hung up on how fast Rei’s hair grows? Besides all of the potential explanations (shido maybe increasing hair growth speed since it also prompted Rei to grow an entire inch in a matter of months, chemical treatments to speed up hair growth, hell who’s to say that Rei didn’t sit in a time dilation chamber to train for sectionals and during that time his hair grew?), it seems silly to let yourself get stuck on a relatively minor detail.

Wilson Lessley

There seems to be lightning coming from a central point just out of frame above Rei, could just be for effect but part of me wants it to be a hint towards externals!

2026-09-06 19:00 Amazing art. Love the colors. I wish we could see him from the front but thats fine. The circle near his... um.. rear end - is ... well - it draws the eye

Luke

Anyone see lightning instead of vysetrium along his arms. New ability? Or just normal drawing?

TrakN7

The white vapor and lightning is what it happens when he type shifts.

Ira White

I can't unsee it now lmao

Francis, of course I did. I considered it and discounted it as unlikely, for the reasons I explain in my 2nd paragraph. But don't hold us in suspense—if not CAD users, then what do *you* think those are? This is in front of a crowd, so it's an SCT, not a military operation. That means his opponents are mostly likely CAD users. They wouldn't be archons unless (a) the archons decide to participate in the SCT's (a cool possibility--imagine the archons trying to demoralize the humans by challenging and defeating their best combatant); or (b) they're archon simulations; but no mention was ever made of CAD users fighting against such simulations in the SCT's. But chances are the illustrator didn't think of either of those possibilties, so most likely these are meant to be other users. Though I think Raymond also offers a good possibility--they were just meant to be purely generic, i.e., nothing in particular at all. It's certainly possible the illustrator put less thought into his opponents than we are!

chem

If he decides the SCT's aren't for him, at least he has a career doing "buns of steel" workout videos.

There is a way this can be addressed politely and objectively. There are extensive anthropormorphic measurements of typical waist:hip ratios in men and women. For healthy (not overweight) men and women, the averages are 0.9 and 0.7, respectively. Data specifically for Japanese men and women is harder to find with an English-language search, but the limited data I've found suggests this applies to Japanese as well. This illustration shows a waist:hip ratio of 0.7, i.e., while a man could have such a ratio, what's illustrated is more typical of the female form. Though what's a bit unusual about this picture—and I just realized this is why it felt a bit unusual to me—is that the waist:shoulder ratio, by contrast, seems typically male. So we've got a combination of a typically female waist:hip ratio, and a typically male waist:shoulder ratio. Of course, there's nothing wrong with this—men and women both follow an overlapping distribution of shapes. I'm just referring to the averages. I can understand that you, as the author, may find this level of analysis tiresome. But consider that the reason your first book became so popular is precisely because it inspires passion. And that passion motivates people to become more engaged, and one result of that is people enjoy doing close analysis. I.e., I'm afraid it comes with the territory. People argue passionately about, for instance, the Marvel movies; they don't about movies that they don't care about. Better to have engaged readers than not :)!

John Findlay

Unless you have spent time drawing people, really studying comic a normal person isn't going to notice that armor is female. Spider-Man is a wiry build. That armor has the hips wider than the waist which is female no matter how many muscles are attracted to the back and arms. If Bryce is happy with it so be it, but anyone who has been to a gym can tell you girls can have muscle also. I will also say if he uses this picture for the cover he should have the but cropped from the picture.

John Findlay

Let me say it like this. This the last reply I'm going to making to this. Go look at your old comic, graphic novels and tell each other that is a man in armor. I suggest asking the artist and when he get defensive you'll know for yourself. It probably wasn't done for any reason other than Bryce is a guy and the artist is a guy. I often choose female characters to play in third person video games because I would rather look at a female form than a male. Oh and helpful advice is to tell the artist you're looking for Spider-Man build not wonder-woman. That pose is also very female the head turned to see others looking at their buts. I will say if you're happy then I'm happy with it.

LawBear2005

Dude, It is free art and it looks amazing. Why criticize?

Tad

That doesn't look like a female at all

Ryan Imhof

Standing here I realize

Mark

To me it looked like the artist used a female photo etc.. To model from.. Maybe becsue of the hair etc.. The thing that stuck out to me was his waistline were men have a waist the same as their hips while women can have a small waist and larger hips.. But it's done and the authors happy so no big deal.. But I did show the image to a few people are they asked who the girl is...

Mark

He has Baby bearing hips..

Mark

The Butt Plug..

DJ

This picture is beautiful. John seems to be getting attacked though for pointing out something he noticed. It’s actually pretty constructive and not mean spirited. I think that is a sign of a lover of your work.
