Concept Art 024: Adele (kaius's mother) (Patreon)

Adele is a calm and warm person, always supportive of his son and understanding of the complicated situation they are in. You may ask what situation?... well, after Kaius' accident with Sabaoth (the demon), he and his mother were basically shut out from society. They lost everything they had since the empire was paying all their expenses due to Kaius and her husband's status as midnight blade and general respectively. She might have had a job during this situation but she lost it immediately, and any effort to find a new one was in vain not to mention that any friendship she had (especially higher class friends)  was severed in fear of being associated with the mother of the "monster of Eldengard". Her life went from nobility to the one of an outcast, and contrary to what you might expect from a woman in her position, she never once blamed nor felt resentment towards Kaius, what she felt was hurt, hurt that her child was being treated like a beast the whole world despised and there was nothing she could do to help him.

Thankfully she had a relative that gave her a chance, giving her space to sell her baked goods and aliments in their store without disclosing her identity, she would just deliver them to the back entrance of the store and that way she could at least make a small amount of money to help his son. They weren't completely poor since Kaius' was able to maintain his job as a regular knight after the accident thanks to Joaquin's help, and that gave them a bit of stability, but that means the whole responsibility was on Kaius' shoulders and she always felt bad for being a burden to both his husband and son.

While Adele tries his best to humor his son, Kaius' cold demeanor keeps her far from truly understanding what he is going through, Kaius is afraid of being vulnerable and putting her at risk, he has so much self-hatred and regret that he occasionally ends up being harsh and mean to her in the heat of the moment. It is possible that Adele knows what actually happened thanks to Joaquin but she might not understand the whole situation, she is just very worried about his son, lately it just seems every desire and dream Kaius once had is gone, almost like he had given up on life and just keeps going to not affect his mother out of guilt.

I feel so bad for Adele, she is a sunshine and deserves a happy life, the fact the whole town ignores her and treats them like a plague because of Kaiu's situation is just really disheartening.
